I love the chocolates. The ice cream is also really good. It's a hard ice cream, less creamy than some places, so probably depends on preference. The have some extra flavors in the back if you ask. I meant to post this review a while ago when they were doing their 60% off sale. My husband and I stopped by and bought all sorts of delicious goodies and ice cream (yes, they have ice cream!). I bought some dusted chocolate toffee almonds, chocolate mint cookie bites (just like thin mints), and dark chocolate peanut butter truffles (my new favorite). I also got a small scoop of cookie dough ice cream (SO GOOD). My only complaint is that the wrapper sticks to the cone. Mrs. Cavanaugh's has my most favorite chocolates. Do not order from this place if you care about a gift being delivered on time. Even if you choose the 2-day delivery option, Mrs Cavanaugh's only ships orders out Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. According to the staff member whom I spoke to on the phone, "it's too expensive to ship over the weekend". I'm pretty sure that my mother used to bring me here when I was a kid-but I had forgotten about that until I visited again as an adult. Then the memories started eeking their way back from the corners of my mind. The chocolate mint sandwiches were a semi-regular treat in our house growing up. Holidays, birthdays or other special occasions called for those mints. Of course, those are still here. But my more grown-up palate acknowledged the wider variety of options and snagged a few. Everything was delicious-although the cherry cordials were not my favorite; something about them was just off. I've never been inside this location, but I was so happy we did! We came in on a whim while trying to pass time, and it was 110% worth it! We found all the classic chocolate that we love, as well as candy- new and classic! We ended up with a couple packets of Razzles, pop rocks, gummy dinosaurs, and my personal favorite - Sea Foam! I ended up spending 9$ and some cents on everything! Such a great deal! The ladies at the counter were incredibly friendly and even offered my son a smarties sucker which was so nostalgic! It was very calming inside, not a lot of customers. We watched 3 people go in before we went in, so they do have customers, it's just not overwhelming inside which I appreciated! Fun place to visit, saw it on the way to a weird restaurant in Bountiful. Staff was very friendly and provided free samples. The ice cream was really delicious and not too sweet. They said this was Mrs Cavanaugh's first business took place in this location and where she also lived. Can't verify this but that is what I was told. Need to go check out the SLC location and take a guided tour when COVID gets under wraps. read more

My sister gave me the Roasted Nuts & Gourmet Chocolate box for my birthday. We both live less than 3 miles from the Bountiful Utah retail store and have shopped the retail store many times. I noticed that a few of the mixed nuts were just beginning to go rancid. It wan't bad enough for me to not eat them but that bad taste was there. Then I a had a mouthful that was so bad I had to spit it out and rinse my mouth.. not good. I thought no problem, I'll stop by the shop and swap these for something better. After I explained the problem, the cashier said, "We do not offer exchanges or refunds., I'll let the supplier know". My advice; avoid anything with mixed nuts. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. Had Steve who was rude from the start. I explained to him I was charged twice for my order he attempted to convince me I was lying about it, when I sent him the screen shot as proof he said what did you pay with a different card even though it was clearly stated 2 charges on 1 card, at the same time even. Then he said oh that happens all the time.. I said then it's obviously an issue on their end if it's happening all the time, to which he had no response. Found this chocolate place by searching for chocolate tours. They offer tours with advance reservations. The store has windows that look into the factory where they make the chocolate. They also have an employee that gives a brief history of chocolate and how the business started. The best part, they give free chocolate. The tour is $5, but you get a $4 voucher to spend in their store. They have ice cream in addition to their build your own box of chocolates. We went in just for ice cream but left with fudge and icecream. They had about 12 flavors - all traditional icecream flavors. We asked the employee if they switch out flavors seasonally. It sounds like they sort of do. She was a little vague. It was out dated inside which was appealing. The employee said their factory was father north than the store. A photo of a cheery elderly woman was on the wall. We assumed it was the founder. How cute! They had a lot of treat options which really accommodated to anyone's preferences. I have a sweet tooth, mostly for doughnuts and cookies. But my very significant other was visiting recently and she has dragged me into See's and other candy shops far and wide to sample their chocolates, and before now I've always been ambivalent about them. Most chocolatier's display cases are basically just one giant Whitman's Sampler and to say I can take it or leave it is an understatement. But, as I was saying, she was visiting lately and I took her here on a whim to see what the hubbub was about. This place is different. Their chocolates are on a different level. The chocolate is creamy, not waxy, and the flavors are so mild and perfectly complimentary so you really can savor these and pull every subtle flavor that exists out of them. I ordered a box of Mrs. Cavanaughs to be shipped to her parents in Texas and they arrived within 2 days from the order date, and packed in ice so they didn't melt in shipment. Incredible. These aren't cheap like Whitman's or even See's. But go in and try a sample and you'll know what all the hubbub is about as well. read more

Mrs. Cavanaugh has brilliantly mastered the use of mint, carefully balancing the flavors and leaving me with a smooth, delectable bite that is chocolate first and foremost but restrained mint throughout. And all of this gentle wash of flavor came in my sample! Yes, this was only my first taste of Mrs. Cavanaugh's offerings. Needless to say, I stocked up on raspberry truffles, orange creams, haystacks, and the Brady--a heavenly coconut caramel concoction made to delight anyone who loves all things exquisite. Bite after bite, chocolate sampling after chocolate sampling, it was evident that what Mrs. Cavanaugh understands is that chocolate is a luxury and should be made as such: velvety, rich, decadent. I have seen the light. If it were legal to marry chocolate, I wouldn't waste my forever after on any chocolate that hasn't mastered subtlety and buttery richness. Had 1 pound marzipan candy sent to Florida for mother's day. With the dry ice it was $36.00. A little costly even for good chocolates, but was rated well, so I tried them. They require you buy dry ice to ship, additional cost of 9.00, which arrived melted anyway. Candy was okay, definitely not worth the price. I went hiking at Mueller Park and passed this store on the way back to the hotel. I saw it received a 4.7 star rating on Google, so I decided to go in. As soon as I opened the door, I was greeted with a waft of the smell of chocolate. I looked at everything and decided to get a caramel apple, two bags of Sixlets, one bag of caramel apple taffy and two bags of chocolate covered pretzels. When I arrived to the airport, I wanted to take some things from my backpack and put them in my suitcase. I opened the plastic bag from the store and pulled out the two bags of Sixlets. Imagine my surprise when the Sixlets flew out of the bag and onto the airport floor! Both bags were open! Apparently, the seal on the side of the bags had opened. Here I was running around the airport trying to retrieve the Sixlets on the floor before someone stepped on them. The guy next to me had a great chuckle... as I'm frantically trying to pick up these gold, white and purple balls everywhere! Needless to say, both of those souvenirs were gone. Fortunately, none of them fell into my suitcase. I got back home to Arizona and had the caramel apple which was delicious. Then, I went to my parent's house and gave them the taffy and one of the bags of chocolate covered pretzels. We opened the bag of pretzels and they were stale! I noticed they didn't print a date on the package of when they made them. In the end, I purchased six items and only two were good. I'm really disappointed in my experience. read more

This is probably the best chocolate you will ever taste!! Ferro Rocher and Gharidelli are NOTHING compared to Mrs. Cavanaugh's. As soon as you put a piece of chocolate in your mouth it melts! The ice cream here is so delicious. It's only two dollars a scoop and trust me, you'll only need one scoop, that's how big the sizes are! The staff is very friendly and always willing to help.
