I've seen these stores around town but never actually gone through one. Admittedly, the only reason I came here was it attracted the attention of my 3 year old. There's a pretty cool variety of candies and version of candies that I've never seen. What I enjoyed most though was that not everything is really expensive. I never encountered an employee, so I'm not sure how the service is like, but this location was bustling and kept their employees busy with other customers! What a fun shop filled with gourmet and vintage/hard to find sodas, candies, and gifts! They have my favorite childhood seltzer - New York Seltzer (which I had to get because nostalgia and memories as a child with my Dad)! Don't worry, they also have a respectable variety of current treats as well. You can fill a bag from candy bins and pay a flat rate depending on the size of the bag. I wish they had penny candies. Unique, knowledgeable, and massive variety. If you enjoy soda or candy you cannot miss this place. I don't think I've ever seen a store with more variety of sodas or candy in my life. The employee who helped me has worked here for several years and knew every single item in their store. It made the experience much more enjoyable. Sodas: if you're looking for a root beer with licorice essence or a root beer sweetened by honey or wanting to try something similar to Harry Potter's butter beer, or if you're crazy enough to try the bacon soda, you came to the right place! Chocolate: these guys have an incredible selection of European chocolate. Everything from Kinder in Germany to the Australian violet crumble and so forth. They even have some designer chocolates made here in the US that are pretty unique. Candy: I've never seen a wider assortment of salt water taffy in my life. The store was really nice and had a variety of candies but the cashier Thomas was very rude. I also heard other customers complain about him not helping them out. I bought quite a few candies and one of the cans was carbonated but there was a dent and I wanted to exchange and he said no. As a business owner, I would never do that to any customer, especially when a product is damaged. So that was very disappointing. read more

If you are a fan of refined sugar, corn syrup, and artificial coloring? This is the place for you! This is a serious candy shop. There were candies I had never seen before, which is saying a lot when you take into account the incredibly unhealthy upbringing I had and how sugar addiction has nearly ended my life several times. They even had international candies (All the deliciousness I enjoyed in London at three times the price), asian candies, and bacon candies. I came in search of candy buttons with which I will be making pasties and underwear decor. No you dirty, dirty people, it is NOT for sexy times. It's for a burlesque performance, sillies. That's WAY more modest and appropriate. It's not for one person to see but hundreds. Yes. We were given free samples as soon as we walked in. Fabulous! The not so fabulous aspect was trying to explain to the younger ones that the rest of the store was NOT free samples and they couldn't just help themselves to the open bins of saltwater taffy. So if you need a sugar rush or to induce a diabetic coma, this is your place! Had I wandered in as a child I would have been in absolute heaven. Well this place can be described in one word: "COOL!" I walked in and felt like a kid in a candy store ... because I kind of was. Though it was sodas and candy. Now I am not one for sodas as a rule. Root beer, check and check. I could go on and on. What makes Rocket Fizz extraordinary is the eclectic variety through the ages. I found sodas from my childhood that I have not seen for years and years. It was just fun!! Most of the sodas are in bottles, some novelty ones in the back are in cans (read, they have Duff soda from the Simpsons, etc,) You will find your basic Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Sprites, etc. But you will also find sodas from Mexico, Paris, Korea, and the Middle East. Like I said, this place is cool. Let's move on to the candy. There is candy and then candy and then candy. There is a wall of chocolates on the back, and throughout there are many different stations of taffys, suckers, old fashioned, and, yes, bacon flavored. (Bacon seems to be a running theme here.) The candy here is cool. The walls are lined with metal signs and posters that you can buy that range from movie posters to antique looking signs, and new fun eclectic novelties. I also spied lunch boxes and life sized cutouts of movie stars and famous people alike. Truly, just cool! The price is about what you might think it would be. About $2 a bottle, so if you want more than one you will save in the long run with a 6 pack. The 4 pack does not give much of a savings, but does come with a nifty carrying case. The sodas are mix and match, so you can get what you want in your 6 pack and pay the same price regardless of soda style. It is just cool. Great little place. Packed full of soda and candy, what could be better? Hundreds of different types of soda. We saw chicken wing soda, bacon soda, peanut butter and jelly soda.. sweet corn soda. Just a ton of weird stuff. I will be trying more stuff. We bought some candy too, but there weren't that many unique candies. Zagnut and a couple of the oldies, but it's mostly great for the soda. Went to the store back when I was 12 and got kicked out for looking over to my friends who I entered with. They were planning on buying some candy however I wasn't planning on buying anything. I went off looking and was awed by the selection they had at the time. While I was looking I noticed some tall guy with glasses glaring over to me until he spoke up and claimed to be the owner and that I was stealing. I tried to explain that I was just looking while my friends shop. Even after my explanation, he took a picture of me and banned me from the store. To this day, I'm still amazed by the fact that a grown man would make such a scene because I was gazing at some candy. I'm pretty sure what set him off was that I was wearing baggy clothes and that I wasn't in his demographic of kids to have the privilege to shop there. Somewhat deceptive place in that there is so much going on with every available square inch of wall space dedicated to either signage (from the past, because nostalgia) or various carded toys (they have action figures and an assortment of other oddities, such as a cat face bird feeder, which is bizarre on several levels) or candies, that one can miss, unless one has a dedicated eye and/or is looking for it, that there are a lot of repeats. There are a ton of oddly flavored sodas and regular ones, as well, and imports, which sort of follows the candy as well. You will generally find every ethnicity represented, as well as several nationalities, via candy in this place, even if some of it is only in passing and echoes what you can find on the shelves of your nearest supermarket. As long as you're not looking for stuff on the fringes, such as spicy candy, you can probably find something to get, but I'm perhaps too eclectic for the store as I keep coming in, hoping for something novel or interesting, but have yet to buy anything there. As novelty candy/soda shops go this one is pretty good. They've got a much better atmosphere and selection than other Rocket Fizz's (IMO), and the prices are about the same (f'ing ridiculous). Went to Rocket Fizz last night and it was closed but the posted hours said it would be open at 10:00 AM this morning. Got there after 10:00 and it was still locked. Two employees were in the store but had no intention of unlocking the doors. Nor did they have the courtesy to tell me when they would open as I stood outside in 18 degree weather for 20 minutes. They just looked at me and continued talking with each other. I finally left and can't remember the last time I had been treated that inconsiderately and rudely. So after a hot day of walking around and letting the kids get wet in the Water works at the Gateway we decided to check out the cool candy shop right next door to the water (Rocket Fizz) as we walked in my kids were so amazed and excited to see so many different kinds of candy and toys. My oldest loves Japanese candies and Kinder eggs and to her surprise they had so many different kinds and ones she has always wanted to try from watching YouTube. We walk over to the Kinder eggs first and while her and I are looking at them my younger daughter and neice are checking out some toys by the window. Before I know it a woman comes out and is telling my kids not to touch the awesome toys that are in the kid/candy shop they're just to look at,???? Okay! So I tell them to come stand by me then when we saw the price of the Kinder Eggs I jokiningly comment to the man at the register why are they so expensive for such a small egg, he rudely snaps back that the owner can price his stuff however he wants. At this point I'm starting to feel they're a little to old to be acting like this to the customers and they are working in kid store so their whole attitude is off and me knowing my daughter I'm still planning on buying the egg for her even after the snappy remarks from the employees. Remember we had just came in from right next door at the water where my youngest and my neice had just played in the water I had them dry off a little in the sun before we left but the ends of their is long and may had been a little wet and driiping a little. The woman employee from earlier saying to not touch the toys comes around the corner asking who is soaking wet and dripping all over, I told her that would be my 2 we just came in from next door playing in the water she then stomps over with a mop mumbling that I should have had them dry off before coming in they're getting the whole store floor wet its not good for the other customers that come in, and while she's talking she is literally following my girls around mopping behind them. At this point I'm done I ask for her name she smirks and gives it to me.I ask the guy at the register if there is a manager and of course it's the woman, so I ask for the owners name , then grab my little crew and head out. I just feel like working at a place that pleases to kids you should have a better attitude and not just that we would have been regulars. The store is at the Gateway and that place is dropping stores like flies so you would think the "Owner" would want to keep his buisness filled with employees that aren't going to run customers away. Anyways I know this was long but it was worth writing my kids were hurt that they were not able to get something that they really liked and looked forward to having that we hadn't Seen any where else but this store nor enjoy themselves in the store.
