The history and tradition here is pretty cool. Small town USA with tons of locals that are obviously regulars. The service was very friendly and it felt like you were eating at your grandmas house. The food is so incredibly cheap but the portions are very small. They have specials most days of the week that are on a board in the restaurant. The food wasn't bad but it was nothing special either. Don't expect anything fancy and order a few sides to make a larger portion for yourself. The food arrived within 5-10 minutes and everything was prepared quickly. The server was taking care of the entire dining room and was working so hard to take care of everyone. Overall, very classic diner with cheap small portions. read more

Stopped in today with a colleague after the Thai place told us they were closed at lunch for renovations. We come down once a quarter or so and are making our way through Sanford's offerings. We both had the chicken pot pie special. Delicious. It came with two sides. I had the cole slaw and fried okra. Also chose hush puppies. My colleague got the biscuit. I drank unsweetened iced tea. It was packed but we sat right away and had excellent service. We left at closing at 130 pm. I look forward to coming back for breakfast or lunch to try more of the menu. This place is ok at best. The food is ok. Eggs were literally swimming in butter right along with the grits. I had to salt and pepper my eggs for flavor. The service is nice. The server was very friendly and attentive. She had a pretty good sense of humor and made this place feel like your grandmama's kitchen. She was absolutely the highlight of my visit. I would go back just to sit and have coffee to talk to her as she served others but I think the food is a no go for me. read more

I had the eggs, bacon, grits, flapjacks. The food was ok. The bacon didn't really have much flavor. The highlight of the meal was when the server realized that I had asked for whimpy bacon and she had brought me very crispy bacon. She brought me more bacon that was less crisp. I tried both the crisp and the Wimpy bacon and honestly they neither had much flavor. I did salt and pepper my eggs heavily but honestly the egg didn't have a lot of flavor either. The grits were swimming in butter. The location is obviously old; however, it is very clean. The cleanliness and the server bringing me more bacon it's why I gave it a three stars. read more

Absolutely disgusting. They got my Togo order wrong and made me bring my plate in the CASHIER threw away the bacon out of my box WITHOUT WASHING HER HANDS and the lady making the orders was coughing and I hadn't seen her change her gloves once. Needs much better sanitation and hygiene read more

We've been coming here for years and have enjoyed their breakfast. It's a local dive where everyone knows each other. I admire how they served turkey meals to those in need on thanksgiving. As someone from out of state, this is the place that has taught me about southern style breakfast. Fat backs and red eye gravy were one of the first things I learned about. However, it's an acquired taste. Today I had the typical hot cakes and bacon. Mom had the country ham omelet with slices of fresh tomato. The breakfast potatoes are thinly sliced and are delicious. Service is not the friendliest to out of Townes but you get your food quick and get checked on several times. My summary, I recommend This Place for the good food and conversation with the locals. read more

Sausage Links (large size and sourced local) and Eggs is my favorite. Pinto Beans also a favorite (only on certain days) and there is a Monthly Menu at the counter. For a mom n pop place , it has the feel of a nursing home/ dirty truckstop where a guy at the counter won't shut up , loud enough for the whole place to be in his conversation while you eat. You can taste the city water in their iced tea and their mashed potatoes come out of a box. Stay away from the butter beans , they taste like a bowl of hog fat , but one thing that was good was the homemade strawberry cake. My wife and I went here this morning and ended up leaving because we couldn't get service. We've eaten here before and loved the food. The service was what you'd expect from a small country restaurant. The entire restaurant was packed and the section we sat in today had 10-12 tables in it with one server. There was another small room for which she may have been responsible. We understand being understaffed so we weren't too upset about the amount of time before we were greeted. We looked at the menus and chose what we wanted to eat while we waited. When our waitress came to the table she asked for our drink orders. I told her we were ready to order and she said she couldn't take it yet so we decided to leave at that point. The parking is extremely tight and people were standing by their vehicles talking while we tried to find a space. It's very difficult to maneuver in the parking lot. One lane traffic and nowhere to turn around. Normally I'd give this 3-4 stars on the food alone but since we couldn't eat it only gets one today. read more

Love this place! I always get a pancake, two scrambled eggs with cheese, and a side of bacon! Love their homemade biscuits as well. You can always expect rotating specials for lunch that are set for the month. Service is always great and fast for me. read more
