I've eaten here several times the food and the service is excellent. I highly recommend the blacken pork sandwich not sure where they get their pork but it's very tender and tasty. The food was very good but the experience wasn't quite what I was expecting for a restaurant voted best of the pines for many years in a row. It started when we checked in. I had made reservations online and mentioned it was my husband's birthday. I never expect anything of this but usually mention it. Well we check in and the hostess made a point to mention it and said they wouldn't embarrass him but we could expect a "sweet treat". There was no sweet treat so it's a bit odd they would bring it up. Our waitress took care of us right away and got us drinks immediately and took our orders. We ordered the 8oz filet, 11oz ribeye, and mushrooms. The food was delicious, very tasty. However, my husband and I purchase and cook steak quite often and I'd be hard pressed to say he actually received an 8oz steak pre-cook. It was more petite for sure. My ribeye was amazing but I was surprised to see that it was thin cut because I would expect a thick cut steak from a steakhouse. We also never received our mushrooms but after dropping our food, we didn't see our waitress again for about 30 minutes so we were finished eating by the time she came back and never had a chance to ask for them. We paid with a gift card we received for Christmas and had enough leftover to leave a pretty nice tip but were informed afterwards that Beefeaters doesn't accept tips on gift cards. This left a bad taste in my mouth because this was a gift card that was purchased and the money should be able to be used in any way as Beefeaters has already collected it. I assume the tactic is to get you to return and spend more money but there wasn't quite enough left on it for a full meal and we are a coupe with young toddlers so getting a chance to get out of the house for date night is a rare occurrence and we weren't likely to be able to return soon. Again, the food was delicious and I can see why they received the best steakhouse in the pines for taste, but I was a bit thrown off by the experience otherwise. read more

I've ordered takeout steaks twice and both times the meals were excellent! Steak was cooked perfectly to my request. Steamed broccoli was delicious and crisp. I love the small rolls that accompanied the meal. Salad was the best with lots of veggies in addition to greens. (Most restaurants send lettuce when one orders a salad.) Their ranch dressing is so good! To top it off I ordered a slice of pecan pie. It was huge and came with a full cup of ice cream that tasted like it was homemade! Yum! I don't cook much so I frequently order from various restaurants. I'll be ordering from Beefeaters frequently! I ordered online and it was ready exactly when it was stated. How comforting and relaxing when you are with a large group (10) that the sever actually listens to your request for a slice of RARE Prime Rib offering a 10 or 15 ounce plating. Well little buddies this Beefeaters in Southern Pines NC has your number. Tender, sweet, softly seasoned, tender red prime served with whipped garlic potatoes and steamed Asparagus spears was the overall hit of our long table. Every one made their selections but I stuck with the house specialty. One of the guests said "George hit a four bagger with his entree". No kidding cowboy & I never shared a morsel with even my dear wife. She ordered a seafood entree at a Beef Joint! Give me a break please! Their opening appetizers were delish - Crispy fried calamari with a delish dipping side. Some kind of steamed mussel concoction with tons of fresh garlic and baskets of oven hot baked goods for sopping up all those lovely sauces the Chef prepped. The multi rooms were paced with Pinehurst Ladies Club groups & 3 day golf package gatherings. All in all our server actually managed to keep peace in the valley with shire will power! We just left. I'll save you the details but my advice is to just go to Southern Prime and spend a few more dollars but have a good meal. If you do go in, I hope you sit beside someone that worked there in the past (and the waitress recognizes) because you'll find out all the details about the specials and what looks good and on and on and on. Went for a special occasion dinner. Had reservations for four people. We were on time and were seated promptly. Nice atmosphere. Classic steakhouse vibe. A little dark, lots of wood. We had made a couple of special requests, and we saw they had been seen to. Service was well beyond par. Friendly, attentive, without being too over the top. Nice menu. Fair prices. French onion soup: handmade correctly. Excellent. 12 oz ribeye: excellent cut of meat, seasoned a but too much with salt and not much pepper, but that's a personal taste. Still, a good steak. Mashed taters and asparagus were as to be expected. Others had the steak medallions. Some felt there was a heavy hand with the salt shaker somewhere in the kitchen, but no real complaints. Wine list was excellent. A special bottle was brought in and the corkage was reasonable. Dessert menu left quite a bit to be desired. I didn't see anything on par with the rest of the meal. Was it the best steak I've ever had? No. But I've had some pretty darn great steaks. For me, top tier service can make up for minor imperfections from the kitchen, and that rang true for this meal. I love this place. Great food and good service. Definitely a hidden gem. Parents came here in the eighties. New ownership but hasn't skipped a beat. To top it off when I came out to go home my car had a flat tire. It was closing time. I was going to have to wait 30 minutes for a cab. Instead the owner (Will) gave us a ride home. We don't usually write reviews but this was worth taking the time to write. First time eating here and we chose Beefeaters simple because we wanted a good steak. We have traveled the world and I can literally say I can not have had a worse steak. The meat was thin. The meat was fatty. The meat was chewy. It was seasoned well, I will say that. But it was bad quality. I paid $10 extra to have crab meat on top. I literally took the crab off the top because it smelled old. It was off color. Crab should be fresh. It was brown. There was supposed to be sauce... it was drizzled and dry- I chose medium rare. There were four of us dining, and all 4 got steak and all 4 steaks were the same. Very bad cuts, very fatty and very thin. Barely any meat. These are steak restaurant prices and it was very disappointing. I will say the employees were excellent. And well it is not their fault the quality of food is horrible. Our waitress was attentive, she apologized for the bad quality. The manager was attentive, replaced the steak and also apologized for the poor quality. But the replacement was not much better. It was disappointing for a steak house who quite frankly is supposed to specialize in steak. Our bill, not worth it. Not comped for the poor food. Not that we expected it but it was disappointing to spend that much for a poor quality meal. With all the other choices around, I would spend your money elsewhere. read more

We recently moved to this area, but we first tried Beefeaters about a year ago. It was...okay, and there were other options, so we didn't come back...until last week. So glad we did! Apparently, the place changed ownership about six months ago and you can really tell the difference! It's your basic old-school steakhouse, just done really well. They have great streaks, amazing sides, and even a HUGE salad bar! Hubby and I shared the prime rib sandwich, which really was a slice of prime rib (unlike some other places). Garlic mashed redskins had the right amount of garlic, and Southern green beans were on point. Great service and a fair price. If you're looking for a real steakhouse, this is it! read more

Place was great and worthy of 5 stars. We attended the US open in Pinehurst and googled up this place. The reviews looked good so we figured we would give it a shot. Walking in the place has a nostalgic feel, it's very original looking and I love places like that...I love old feel places. We decided to sit at the bar, where we were greeted by the nicest bartender. She really made us feel welcomed...She was very friendly and very on point. She was always around when we needed another drink. We pretty much only had apps, but every app we ordered was stellar. The prices are very fair and the portions are great. The owner came out to talk to us to make sure everything was good. He was a very nice guy and we had great conversations about golf. The prime rib was very flavorless, the mashed potatoes weren't great and the salad bar was well... let me put it this way "the 90's called and they want it back". I had to salt and pepper the heck out of it. The service was terrible but I will say I don't think it was the waitress's fault, one woman to take care of the whole bar room was crazy. I can't believe people gave this place that good of reviews. I have had much better prime rib, heck Longhorns is better for less money. Update: We went back to give it another shot. Staff was great but prime rib was actually worse than before. The prime rib was so tough that everyone in our party had to spit quite a bit of it out because you couldn't chew it up. I have eaten prime rib many places and this was the worst by far. We will not be going back for 32 dollar prime rib that isn't edible. read more

The salmon was very dry but had decent flavor and the mashed potatoes were some of the best I've ever had! Will definitely be returning to try more food when I'm back in town. read more

I really don't understand the love for this place. After a last minute change of plans on our anniversary, we were left scrambling to find a place we could get reservations of a Friday night to day of. Called about 6 other places and no luck. Finally resigned to try here (was disappointed last time) because my husband really wanted to go out and hates waiting. I heard that there may have been a change of ownership and improvements made so despite my hesitancy, I took a gamble. Got a 5:30 reservation (should have been a red flag!). We arrived and were seated promptly. Staff was very sweet but was surprised to see servers in ripped jeans. Our server Connie was very efficient and nice overall and the only reason we are giving this review a 1. Our daughter got the chicken (weird flavor--we all tasted it and found it odd in a not good way) and baked potato. "Butter" that came on the side was whipped fake stuff you get for pancakes at the Waffle House and came in a plastic to go cup--just like the Waffle House. Husband got the full rack of ribs which was a huge portion. Meat was tender but they were drenched with a sauce that was so sweet that he only ate a few and decided to bring the rest home to "wash them off" and left hungry. My catfish was the best thing of the entire meal but honestly, the entire meal was a bummer. This is NOT fine dining despite the price tag--not even close. The deco is drab and depressing, there is no music, food is mediocre at best and again, those plastic cups of dressing/butter are just tacky. There are so many much better places to go in town, I highly recommend you skip this place. read more

The service as quick and polite. The people are the gem at this place. The clientele are markedly aged. Young families might not feel comfortable. The dining area is dark and there is an mild stale smell in the air. There is a salad bar that is highlighted by the wait staff. It has many options. But I'm not sure salad bars are in vogue these days. Perhaps they were in the 80s. That's a good way to sum my impression- this place is stuck in the 80s. I could overlook all of that if the steak was worthy, but it was not. My ribeye was thin (about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch) so it ended up over cooked. The seasoning was non existent. The side dishes were unremarkable. The wine selection was adequate and our selections (Pinot noir and a Cab) were delightful. We feel no need to return. It needs an internal makeover and the menu needs a makeover as well. read more
