Very Disappointing Experience at MS Lady Med Spa I am very disappointed with my recent experience at MS Lady Med Spa. I had previously visited the spa using gift vouchers I received about four months ago. More recently, I purchased Groupon vouchers after carefully reviewing the stated terms. Nowhere did the terms clearly indicate that the offer was restricted to first-time customers. Instead, they stated "limit 1 per person" and that the offer "may be repurchased every 90 days." Based on these terms, I reasonably believed I was eligible to purchase and redeem the vouchers. When I tried to redeem the vouchers, I was told the service could not be provided because I had visited before. I was instead directed toward membership options and purchasing full-price services. I believe this restriction should have been clearly disclosed prior to purchase. I bought the vouchers in good faith based on the advertised terms and was disappointed to be denied service. The front desk interaction also felt unprofessional. The staff member spoke in Chinese to another employee about my situation and, as I understood it, said she did not care about the vouchers and that I should take the issue up with Groupon. I was told that the matter was not their responsibility & asked to leave. Overall, I felt dismissed and unwelcome. I hope both Groupon and MS Lady Med Spa improve the clarity of their promotional terms and how customer concerns are handled. I booked a 1-hour massage through Groupon and honestly, I was surprised by how great the experience was. Before going, I read a lot of Groupon-related reviews which were pretty bad, and many of them said things like "you get what you pay for," which made me a little hesitant. But I'm glad I still gave it a chance. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of how confusing it was to contact and locate the Chino Hills location. The Groupon listed "Chino Hills," but the phone number wasn't listed. Google Maps also didn't show a Chino Hills location when I searched "MS Lady Med Spa." Later, I found out the Chino Hills location is now called "MS Slim" (I think that's the new name). Even Yelp had different names AND phone numbers (this will direct to Temple city location) so I actually had to ask a staff member for the correct phone number. It was quite a journey just to reach them. Once I finally got through, the receptionist Bella answered. I told her I want to book 1 hour massage that I will purchase from the Groupon. She asked if I could purchase in-store instead because their Wi-Fi wasn't working well. I decided to be upfront and told her I felt more comfortable purchasing through Groupon since I'd read reviews about people being charged extra. She explained that Groupon pricing only applies to first-time customers, and if I qualified, there would be no extra charge. Ms. Bella was very patient with explaining. Worst case, I could always cancel and leave--so I decided to give it a shot. Even though they were fully booked on Saturday (the only day I was available), Ms. Bella kindly squeezed me in as the very last appointment of the day, which I really appreciated. The next day, I arrived and noticed the store name was different from what was listed on Groupon, so I called again just to confirm I was at the correct location (next to Omomo). I really recommend they update their business name consistently across Groupon, Yelp, and Google Maps because it is confusing. That said, I showed the receptionist, Christina my Groupon screenshot, and I was charged exactly the price listed--no extra fees (Only for first time customers) My massage therapist was Mason. She doesn't speak much English, but she clearly communicated what mattered. In beginning, she asked if I wanted "medium or hard," and when I chose hard, she really delivered on putting extra weight. There were moments I had to try not to drool because it felt that good. Whenever I made any mini slurping noise, she would immediately check in and ask, "Too hard?" which showed how attentive she was. Even with the language barrier, I felt very well cared for. The only slightly awkward moment was when she quietly stepped out of the room without saying anything. I wasn't sure if the session was over or if she was grabbing something. Turns out she came back with hot stones and hot towels, so it wasn't a big deal for me. Just a bit awkward She did a full-body massage including my head (not feet, which I was actually grateful for because I'm very ticklish). If you want foot massage, I recommend letting them know ahead of time. For a discounted Groupon price, I genuinely did not expect oil, hot stones, and steamed hot towels. Based on some reviews saying "you get what you pay for," I felt like I actually got more than what I paid for. Other things I read from one star review was forcing customers to buy their items or package promotion. Like most spas, the worker did mention package promotions for me at the end. I didn't feel pressured at all. The receptionist Christina explained everything very patiently and kindly when I asked questions. I'd consider it in the future if the pricing made sense for individual sessions. A few minor things worth noting: there was a very mild musky smell (not severe), and the room light flickered due to an electrical issue--but the lights were only on when I was changing, so it didn't really affect my massage experience. Overall, the massage itself was excellent. My only real struggle was finding the correct phone number and store name since Yelp, Groupon, and Google Maps all showed different information. DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE FOR ANY TYPE OF SERVICE!! BAIT AND SWITCH BEWARE!! I had a facial service booked and contacted my friend who was then interested in getting one too. She went on Groupon, purchased a voucher, and then called the shop directly to book an appointment. My friend had been there 2 years prior and the terms and condition of the voucher stated "Can be purchased every 90days". It was a surprise to both of us when she called to make an appointment, they refused her because she booked a Groupon, stating last time she was there (again 2 years ago) she used a voucher from Groupon. She mentioned the 90 days terms of condition but they still refused to accept her voucher and wanted her to pay $199 for a service that would have cost her only $65. My friend was then told she would get a call back from a manager to see what they could offer her for the incorrect promotion being posted. They never called her. Embarrassed that I was the one that referred her, I called the spa and explained what was going on in hopes they would make it right. They did nothing to help. Even the manager that was supposed to be calling my friend back, had no idea about the situation so I explained to her what happened. I reminded the manager about the 90 day re-purchase policy that is clearly listed on the Groupon site and her response was "oh yeah we know, we have been trying to contact Groupon to get it changed." First of all, not our problem. Second of all, as a business owner myself I am well aware how Groupon works. The business signs a contract with Groupon defining the promotion rules. The business is the one that allowed the 90-day term to remain visible and active to consumers. The business has control to change any promotion they post via Groupon. Once I stated that because of this situation, I was no longer comfortable coming in for my own service, I WAS HUNG UP ON. It wasn't until I sent a text to the owner stating that I would be posting a review about what happened, that I received a call back. It was the same back and forth, the owner was standing firm that the best she can offer is for my friend to pay FULLPRICE of $199 for the service. I proceeded to cancel my own service and I will never be back there after being a long time customer since 2019. There are too many other amazing places in the Chino Hills area that actually do right by their customers and honor their posted promotions an prices. DO NOT GO HERE!! SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE!! Extremely pushy front desk I was scrolling through Groupon and came across a really good deal for a microdermabrasion so I called the spa. They said they can match the price so I don't have to buy it through Groupon. I already knew they wanted me to come in to sell me a package but the initial facial was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up. I arrive at the spa and the front desk suggested hydrafacial instead of microdermabrasion which I agreed to but at the cost of $30 more than the Groupon deal. Luckily she asked me to pay first bc I probably would've been stuck at the spa for much longer than I anticipated My esthetician was really nice but quite honestly, the facial was nothing special. Now here's why I gave it 2 stars.. I walk out of my treatment room and the front desk lady was ready to kiss my a$$. "You look so great" blah blah blah. She tried to sell me whatever she could even if I didn't need it. Came here because I bought a Groupon for one hour massage. Made an appt for 215. My masseuse started very light handed. Had to tell her to go harder on my neck and back. She spoke some English. First thing she did was offere me a service to help lose weight. Mind you, I'm a big girl, so that was a bit offensive to me and didn't sit well with me. She then offered cupping for my neck and shoulders. I've never had that before so I gave it a try. It was free of charge. My neck turned black! Lol. She said it helps release toxins. Don't ever try to do the dark spot treatment here. They damage my skin so bad and they didn't want to be responsable for that. I had several dark spots on my skin so they encourged me to do the laser. I think it was laser CO2. I followed every steps they gave me after the treatment: no washing face, no scratching, avoid sunlight, apply the powder (no tag name) that they gave me after the treatment. And after 2 months, 3 months, 6 months.... my face is worst. They left a lot of little scars on my face, the dark spots are still there and even got darker. They promised there was only 1 time treatment. After that they said i need to do one more. I had no trust to let them do the second treatment and that wasn't what they said. Then they blaming me for not buying their expensive serum. Their serum is very expensive and can't even find it on the market. I asked for the refund so i can go fix it somewhere else. Just the refund, not the compensation. And they denied it. They gave me the phone number to reach out to the manager and i can't never reach out to her. I left the message and they never got back to me. I have been calling back and forth. My treatment was on October 2023 and finally got the refund on September 2024 after so many phonecalls and messages and then i had to show up to their place. Sorry for this terrible review. This is based on my experience alone. I feel the place was really clean and nice and went for an hour of massage. Turns out the massage was really soft, I asked for more pressure she didn't even supported on the request. I attempted another message and gave it up. It's just not good massage when you have to request multiple times for the same request. Bottom line this is not a place for muscle relaxers or deep tissues massage. I bought 2 Groupons for microdermabrasion facials. 60 mins. Went to the 1st appt and the receptionist said my skin is too old for that facial and I should get hydro facial "Only $20 more." Upsell #1. I'm not usually this stupid, but I was EXTRA stupid that day and paid the fee. The facial was fine, I guess. Never had one like that so nothing to compare. Next the receptionist is talking to another client about age spots. I have one. Upsell #2. She says it'd be $180 to remove it by laser but that the technician/nurse is there right then so can do it immediately. And here's where my brain just absolutely was dead bc I saw my hand giving her my credit card and haggling with her to take money off the $180 and apply the other Groupon towards it. Thinking I'm now some kind of financial genius, I let them laser a square cm sized area under my eye in very thin and delicate tissue. It hurt like I was holding a sparkler to my eye. I kept telling her to stop and all she did was GIGGLE! She spoke NO English. I kept asking... "giggle giggle". It took about 15 min. I walked out with ashes on my face under my eye and a handout in Chinese then English for aftercare. I was handed a very small container (1 cubic centimeter) of white powdered. No not THAT kind. And told to put that on the wound. "It's medicine." I asked what it was. No one knew. Just medicine. I told the receptionist that they need to have a translator in the room if they're doing something invasive like that. Or get a "nurse" that speaks English. She then tells me that she's NOT A NURSE! Just a tech. I want to scream, at myself. When I look at the wound later, I see that after all the pain I went through and the possibility of scarring, she didn't laser the entire area. She only did the center area on half of it so now I have a dark outline around pink scar tissue. I also saw today that the "spa" has specials to remove skin tags, age spots, etc. They're charging ~ $20! NOT $180!!!! I'm an idiot. I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND this place for anything!!!! If there were a way to leave zero stars I would. BTW, in Groupon my first review for here (I did it in two parts) had 5 stars. It's also only 3 statements. That's NOT accurate. She was not only rude when I called to make an appointment, but also rude in person! With an unpleasant front person could really hurt the business! Came here with a Groupon for a massage, and it was a waste of 60 minutes. -signage does not reflect the name on the Groupon -waited 10 minutes for a therapist to come in the room -no top sheet on the massage table, they just cover you partially with a small towel (???) -clearly not a trained massage therapist. Never introduced herself, never asked what I wanted, the usual protocol, just did the first 10 minutes without oil (OUCH) -same stokes so repeatedly my skin began to feel numb. I literally counted the same motion on my back 54 times in the SAME SPOT -never touched my feet -halfway through I just wanted it to be over Then, I try to tip and leave and the receptionist sits me down on the couch and begins to sales pitch me a special for "today only" where I can buy 10 massages for $600. Spending money getting a hydro facial at this place was a big mistake! The esthetician named Sherry is very unprofessional. She is very rough and heavy handed with her facial massage and sloppy with applying mask and facial products. She does not care about her clientele's feedback. She truly needs more education and practice on how to utilize hydro facial machine and applying facial products and perfecting her facial massage techniques. I come here for my facials. They do a great facials, many options, very relaxing, and good results. Only downside is many of the staff don't speak English making it difficult to communicate. Also sometimes it gets loud in the front making it difficult to relax when you can hear people talking about their bookings. I also had to wait 30 minutes for a scheduled appointment because the receptionist was in an argument with one of the ladies in front of everyone in the waiting room.
