With three softball fields, it's basically built for tournaments and pick-up games. Parking was a breeze--lots right by each field, and since it was after Labor Day, no parking fee (pro tip: fees kick back in on Memorial Day). We set up a BBQ and picnic next to the first field. There are plenty of picnic tables and benches, plus some coal grills. But fair warning: the grills are pretty rough, so if you're serious about grilling, definitely bring your own. The softball area itself is perfect for family gatherings, company outings, or just a fun weekend with friends. Good energy, lots of space, and an easy setup for hanging out while cheering on a game. Can't speak for the rest of the park, but this section is definitely a win.

There's also wide open spaces good for picnics. Festivals occur occasionally and there's some concerts. The stairs make for good exercise and there's always some exercise group here it seems. New York City College of CUNY is located within the perimeter edge of this park. St. Nicholas Park contains lots of lush fields of green lawns and abundant trees for 22.74 acreage. I walked around the northern perimeter sidewalk which was very hilly as a uphill battle against gravity to ensure diaphragmatic breathing. St. Nicholas Park was built on a rugged mass of rock of steep, high elevation hills, rugged uneven terrain and irregular topography of northern Manhattan which has hills and steep inclines. Alexander Hamilton's 1802 estate, Hamilton Grange, was relocated to the St. Nicholas Park's northern end. This park gets the job done for my leisure of its history settled by Dutch farmers in the late 1600s and its lush green landscape scenery. Note: This park is easily accessible by B and C local trains at 135th Street station intersecting St. Nicholas Avenue. Bring a camera for scenic landscape photos and wear sneakers to climb the uphill gravitational battle.

This summer, they had the Charlie Parker jazz festival at the amphitheater. This was a great free event for everyone to enjoy. They have various performances throughout the year at the amphitheater, and the best part is that most are free events for the community to enjoy. In addition to the free events, this is a great park for families to enjoy. There are playgrounds for the kids, picnic areas with barbecue grills. They have a free outdoor gym where mostly men lift weights and exercise. You can also take exercise classes in the recreation center and swim in the outdoor pool in the summer. I completely recommend coming here to visit during the day while the sun is still out. However, this place gets very sketchy once it's dark, with people coming to use drugs or take part in x rated activities. Just use common sense and come here during the day.

Despite being near a large road (100% safe, thanks to the big fences) he always felt at ease here. Is it the biggest, cleanest, most equipped dog run in the city? Far from it. Do they always have running water? Sorta. Is the super-steep stone stairwell at the entrance particularly easy to climb or walk down? Probably not, especially for the humans. But if you have a dog that wants to exercise and socialize a bit with other pups anywhere near the Midtown East area, this park is golden. There's almost always someone else there for your pet to see and greet, there's enough room to throw a ball/stick/frisbee around, and also benches for the owners to relax on. Plus enough trees and shrubbery for it to be more than just a concrete plot. It's a neat spot, and it'll always hold a special place in my heart. Worth the visit for sure.

I attended the free 2 hr pickleball clinic in Baldwin Harbor Park, located in in The Town of…read moreHempstead. It was my first time playing, and I took to it like a duck to water. We played doubles, and my partner and I won the game against the other two players. Points are scored only when the serving team wins a rally, and I am a good server. I learned fast how to make the ball hit the court in front the blue line, which is known as the kitchen. Elvis, the head coach, was thorough in his explanation of the fundamentals of the game. We practiced our skills with our peers, getting feedback from the coach that was assigned to our court. There was a coach for each of the eight courts, and each court had four players. I learned the rules of the game and how to score. The goal is to keep the ball out of the kitchen. You can only volley outside the kitchen. The class lasted approximately two hours, and we all had fun. I will definitely be back to take more classes.
