I attended the free 2 hr pickleball clinic in Baldwin Harbor Park, located in in The Town of Hempstead. It was my first time playing, and I took to it like a duck to water. We played doubles, and my partner and I won the game against the other two players. Points are scored only when the serving team wins a rally, and I am a good server. I learned fast how to make the ball hit the court in front the blue line, which is known as the kitchen. Elvis, the head coach, was thorough in his explanation of the fundamentals of the game. We practiced our skills with our peers, getting feedback from the coach that was assigned to our court. There was a coach for each of the eight courts, and each court had four players. I learned the rules of the game and how to score. The goal is to keep the ball out of the kitchen. You can only volley outside the kitchen. The class lasted approximately two hours, and we all had fun. I will definitely be back to take more classes. This place is my own little sanctuary. When I say my own, I don't mean that I actually "own" it.. as it belongs to Mother Nature (and also the Nassau County Parks Department, ha). What I mean is that, when I'm here I am able to find peace and solitude, which is rare today. I'm currently experiencing a profound personal loss and feel my world will never be the same. My mind's been racing and my heart's been beating fast, from both being sick and from ruminating thoughts, however standing along the water's edge provides a much needed sense of tranquility. It's a feeling that inspires hope and reminds me that while sometimes our best made plans go awry and tides made change, the current of life still flows. When you can't change things, perhaps the best thing to shift is mindset. I'm still working on that one, one day at a time.. and walking along the sand here at Baldwin Harbor Park's secret beach gives me the mental space I need to keep on at it. read more

This is always my go-to park with my son. It's a very simple park compared to some of the other parks around the area. There's a very large field along with the skate park that people might be interested in. Of course you have the tennis courts and basketball courts. There's a sandlot for children and swings and a play area. Visit nice amount of area for walking or running as well. I always feel safe and welcomed here. read more

This park struck me as a bit of a mystery. Clearly it is on the bay, but finding your way to the beach is something that you do very much on your own. The park is vast and very well maintained. The back parking lot was about half full on a weekday morning, but not sure from what. Other than a soccer game, there seemed very little activity. The dog run was empty, but there was a skateboard agility course next to that with people risking their skulls. You can not see the water from here, but walking past the soccer field, you finally do spot a patch of water ahead amidst the reeds. There is a steep path down to a verdant and empty beach. Always felt like I was missing something here. read more

Baldwin Harbor Park is My new discovery for a fresh air workout. Most recently a friend of mine invited me to join her walking meditation group. Our first meeting was at this park. The experience was invigorating. We walked the walking trail and I noticed multiple discoveries: butterflies, rabbits and then Of course the preserve. This is a beautiful Long Island park on the South Shore amazing scenery multiple baseball diamonds the skate park is nice for the adventurous. One of things I did not know which I failed to observe all of the years riding the train is that you can actually see this park when you're traveling on the LIRR. Another discovery I have found since utilizing this park is the ice hockey rink. This is wonderful since it supports my new hobby of rollerblading. Here is where I have been practicing my rollerblading skills. I am not able to be seen by the public yet. Im almost there. This park Also has tennis courts and basketball courts. In addition to handball courts, and sprinklers they have a playground and a picnic area. Baldwin Harbor Park is just a really nice park to just be outdoors with family and friends to get some good outdoor exercise and to just be in a Covid free space hopefully! So continue to wash your hands and continue to be safe. read more

Pretty nice park in Baldwin Harbor with athletic fields including a large hockey rink, playground and hiking trails. The trail is only 2 miles long but ok for a stroll. Not the greatest views of the bay either. In spite of flaws it's still a pretty decent park to visit and well maintained. read more

Hi all! The Photos are great it brings back such wonderful memories. I lived right across the street from the park over 20 yrs ago. I grew up in that park. From 5yrs old to 30yrs I know every inch of that park from the Tennis courts to the Ball fields and the beach. To dab a lot is over grown bushes and trees. There was two play grounds the south park which is the tennis courts had a awesome playground where it is now however they took most of it down. They pyramids and a Rocket ship 3 levels high. One pyramid had a Hugh slide that was 4ft wide down the side of the pyramid. It was near the tubes by the entrance of the side where the fountain is or was. The other pyramid had a bridge connecting from it to the center. Where the steps go down on the far side. If that is still there. We road our bikes up and down those pyramids and all over. That was when I was 9-15. I also use to fish off that beach you speak about. Also crabs are a lot there as well as Snappers and porgies. I played PBC hockey in that rink for years. God what wonderful memories. The park used to be Packed from the paddle board courts (handball now) I'm dating myself back now. I am now 53 and live in Suffolk However I am so glad you all love this park. It was so different in the 80's. I met Bryan Setzer From the Stray cats there. A great park at the southern tip of Baldwin Harbor. There are four baseball fields, multiple tennis and basketball courts a skate park and four distinct playground for various age groups. They even have a large sandpit with working backhoes for the little builder. In the winter, there are excellent sledding hills. My kids adore this park. Bring jackets in the early spring and late autumn as it sits on Baldwin/Middle Bay. read more

This is a really beautiful spacious park with basketball, a baseball field a skateboarding area and many other features.The local town picnic is held here in August. However this park is GROSSLY UNDERUTILIZED and has large unused areas. My suggestion put in a dog park. There are many dogs in baldwin harbor (mine included) that need a good dog park. The closest usable dog park is in East Rockaway a long distance away. Other than that this is a great park for a jog or a stroll or just to sit down and enjoy the scenery. read more

Baldwin Park is a good place for ball games, especially night games where you can watch a killer sunset. The fields are very close to one another, so if there is a loud team or group of fans one on field, it can be fairly distracting to fans and players on a field nearby. The last time I watched a game here, there were three night games going on, one little league baseball game, one girls softball game and a mens league baseball game. An inning cannot start after 10:45 but the fields are definitely well lit. The bathrooms weren't the worst ones I have ever had to use. There was toilet paper and soap and those are two very good things. The place is BUGGY as heck in the summer so make sure you bring your bug spray. Also, once the final game is over, the lights shut down and the entire park becomes pitch black. The parking lot is a ways away so what I'm saying is, you're going to want to walk to your car with a friend. read more
