There is a nice double-gated concrete entry area that seems to get flooded when it rains. Two different water facilities as well as multiple picnic tables all around and plenty of poop bag dispensers and trash cans. It looks like during the summer the bathrooms may actually be open. You park at the bottom of the hill and you have to make a little walk up the hill but as long as you don't have too much difficulty you should make it! It doesn't get steep until the very end. We came to this park thinking it would be a normal park and discovered the dog park! It was great because it had a separate large and small dog area. Both sides had picnic tables, agility tunnel and ramps, and watering areas. The fences were nicely upkept so I (a protective dog mom) felt safe letting my mini dachshund off leash in the small dog area --also because today no other dogs were there. This is a nice park and quiet, tucked away from the road. My only complaint is ppl with their dogs off leash outside the kennels ‍ but I guess that is a problem anywhere. read more

Mt. Airy Dog Park is one of the city's best. It's pretty well kept up. There's a few areas where digs can enjoy playing in water. It's overall a nice park just off the road. The park is in a quieter area so it's not busy most of the time. It has areas for smaller and bigger dogs. Any good dog park should have those. The area kind get kind of muddy when it rains, but it was dry the last time. It's not a large park, but there's plenty of room. There is a small parking lot, which usually has plenty of spaces. It also has a few walking paths surrounding it. They have some dog pools for them to splash and swim in the warmer months. There's quite a few dog parks in the area. It's good compared to most. Mt. Airy Dog Park is so great that we even found our dog there! While dogless, we attended our friends' dog's birthday party (R.I.P. Bowser). We were having a great time enjoying the company of dogs in general when we became acquainted with a lady who had been foster parenting a puppy for the week. He immediately had us smitten with him, and the lady let us know there'd be an opportunity to adopt him later... Two years later, we constantly come back to the place we found our dog and enjoy our time there immensely. A strong sense of community serves as the backbone of the dog park, with its patrons taking great care of the park. It's an unspoken rule that if your dog does his duty in the park, you do your duty as his owner (clean it up! what were you thinking??). Bags neatly tied to the fence serve as a means to do so if you forgot to bring one. A much needed re-do of the landscape has made it even more enjoyable, though owners should watch for two things: if it just rained heavily, avoid going for a few days. Second, if it's Winter, take a bathroom break BEFORE going to the park: restrooms are closed the entire wintry season. read more

We had a long drive to get there but I thought it would be a good change. I was wrong. Not that it was advertised, but I thought it would be a lot bigger and a lot nicer. It is a narrow strip of land on a sloping hill. There weren't many people there and oddly, there was a guy there without a dog, that just got up and walked around for a few minutes then came back to sit down again. I just didn't feel comfortable so we left after only a few minutes and went directly to Otto Armledder Dog Park. read more

Looks to be a picnic area converted to a dog park. There were signs asking for donations, but given how money was I would be very concerned to help out management. They spent a lot of money on building a new covered picnic area outside of the dog area and fencing, but forgot the most important part of any dog park - rolls of bags in a covered dispenser! As a result there is little poop pickup. Some patrons do care and tied plastic grocery bags to the fence. I didn't want to touch the bags because they were wet and I could see holes. No one was using them or picking up while I was there. A commercial bag dispenser should be at the gate next to a trash can and most importantly at the start of the path in the parking lot. There was poop every 6ft on the way in. My dog would not run because it didn't want to step in land mines. There was no where I could stand without seeing at least 6 piles. It's well past time to get the community together for complete poop cleanup and to post a sign telling people to tell other patrons to pick up if they miss/ignore when a dog drops - patrons just need a posted norm. This works where I live without a hitch. GET RID OF THE SHELTER OUTSIDE THE DOG PARK! It should be illegal to put your dig inside the fence unwatched with no person with a leash incase there is a dog fight. Dog fights happen. The shelter needs to be inside the large dog side period. a small bus stop shelter is all that is needed on the small dog side. NOT TO MENTION THIS IS WHY NO ONE WAS PICKING UP POO - they were on phones outside the park and not in control of their dogs! Fencing is very costly and I have never been to a dog park with fences this high. They are normally about 3-4ft. The idea is that your dog should be well behaved, not an escape artist, or have a high prey drive - if you are going to a public dog park. I guess this means that if you can't control your dog, this park is a great place for you.....and perhaps deer would stay out too?...I guess.... The space is a single hill so dogs/humans mostly run on very the narrow flat top and there is no grass left. It was mud due to use intensity and the heavy tree cover. The fenced area is very large which is really awesome, but dogs weren't using it unless humans walked to the fence. If you are disabled or elderly, its steep and there are no sidewalks. Perhaps most of the benches and tables should be relocated from the top of the hill to encourage owners to explore further. What we loved was that there were agility courses in both parks. We wish they were closer, so we could use them it is a very long walk to get to the one in the large dog area because it is a very long walk to the gate in the first place. Its just not a great park of you are elderly or disabled and I couldn't physically get to them. The small dog park was about perfect. It was not too small for dogs to run. Small dogs like to run and often cities make small dog parks too small so they can't. Yeh, cincy! The small dog side was mostly flat with less trees, so grass cover was great and I could get around more easily. Unfortunately there were no other small dogs, so we didn't use that side. There were only 6 dogs mid-weekday and they a were all large, so we went to the big dog side. They had fresh water for dogs, hurray for that too. read more

I really like that this dog park is free and located close to us! Everyone who uses it takes really great care of the park and there are plenty of extra tennis balls and toys around if you forget to bring one! When the weather is warm, this park can get pretty crowded which is good for socializing your pups. This is a pretty large dog park with plenty of space for fetch if it is not a crowded day! Typically in the warmer days there are about 2-3 baby pools filled with water that dogs can drink from or pay in, and at the far end is a small agility course. We love it here and will continue to bring our dogs here! read more

This is a nice place to take your dog. It is big enough for them to play, small enough so you can keep an eye out. All the people I have interacted with are friendly and talkative. My two complaints would be...Pick up your dogs poop!!! I mean they even have a supply of bags you can use. And I have seen a few male dogs not fixed. read more

Another great option for dog parks close to downtown. This dog park has pretty much anything your dogs could want. My dogs are cooped up in my apartment all day and when I bring them here and let them off the leash they are able to run free instead the huge fenced in park. They do have a small pup area which is also greatly appreciated. My pups have a combined weight of about 8 pounds so having another option besides getting trampled is always a good thing. This park has a ton of greenery. It is really scenic and fun even if your going for a picnic. The only problem I have with this place is the maintenance of the park. It's hard not to compare it to other parks, but I have to because this one was so muddy when I went I had to go home and change my clothes before we could go do anything else. I don't think they had a drainage system or something it was kind of weird. The grass was kinda getting wild with patches here and there too. Maybe I went at a bad time of the year I don't know, but still a solid dog park and a great option for downtowners to take their pups to stretch their legs! read more

LOVE this place. For 2 years we've been looking for a good dog park for our 20 lb Jack Russell/Border Collie mix, and today we found it. Mt. Airy Dog Park FTW! Previous experiences: * Voice of America's dog park has no shade (and no dogs, the time we were there) * By contrast, Otto Armleder was TOO busy, and I felt like the owners were too busy socializing to watch their dogs Mt. Airy Dog Park: Today was about 70 degrees and sunny, although it did rain last night. I mention this because it was a PERFECT dog park day. So there were probably 20 or so dogs and their owners, which I thought was a great amount (not so many as to be crazy, but not so few as to be awkward or put any pressure on less social dogs/people). And yes it was a little muddy in some areas (as one reviewer noted) but it really wasn't that bad. I didn't track mud onto my clothes or into my car or anything. Some dogs cooled off in dirty puddles, but luckily my dog didn't. I loved that there were so many areas for people to sit and hang out, but also lots of open space to explore. Trees for shade = awesome. Big buckets of water = awesome. Wading pool & cleaning hose = awesome (for those puddle-loving pups). The park is also just a few minutes off exit 4 on I-75 -- i.e., hugely convenient, unlike some of the others. (It's the second driveway if you're coming down Westwood from Montana, fyi.) There is also a good-sized area specifically for small dogs, but because no one was in it, we went into the big/all dog area. It worked out fine. I get the feeling that we could have gone into the small area and thereby coaxed some other small dogs and their owners to join us, but like I said, the big guys were well behaved, and there was lots of space for nervous dogs to roam without joining in the fray if they didn't want to. No, the facilities and "amenities" at Mt. Airy are not going to be as nice as the private dog parks (like WagTown or Red Dog), but actually I prefer the natural, woodsy feel, and you can't beat the price tag of *free*. :) read more

This is a beautiful open space complete with water supply, obstacles and a bar-b-que grill. (Why, unless you want to be mauled, would you bring raw meat to a dog park?) There's a smaller space for smaller dogs. The only negatives are that the bathrooms never seem to be open and the steep hill so good at wearing out your dog might also wear you out if you're not that fit. read more

I'm originally from Indiana and we have no free dog parks anywhere near I live so it was a blessing to just be able to walk in and play. The park is nicely fenced in with plenty of space for your pooch to run around. Miscellaneous tubs sitting in the water area filled with stale cloudy water, poop bombs everywhere and dirty tables, chairs and pretty much.....everything. This is a free, public dog park on the western side of Mt. Airy Forest. There are two sections: a Small Dog area and an All Dog area. Each has a double gated entrance. Small dogs are welcome in the All Dog area, and generally this is where most of the action is. There are water stations with water pumps and bowls. There is also an area to hose down your dog because, yes, it can get a little muddy during rainy weeks. There is plenty of shade and lots of grass for the dogs, and picnic tables and benches for the humans. The most impressive thing about this park is the ongoing maintenance. From what I understand, a large tree knocked out a portion of the fence over the winter, but this was quickly repaired. This spring they've brought in mulch piles, maybe to control the mud situation, but the dogs love the mulch mountains. Another recent addition is the agility equipment. Though my pug doesn't quite get it, your dog might have a blast on the obstacles. Again, this place is free and open to the public. Though I've never encountered an aggressive dog at Mt. Airy Dog Park, there is no security or staff on site. It is up to the dog owners to monitor and control dog behavior. If you're uncomfortable with that, you should probably look for a paying member dog park with temperament testing. Mt. This place is really well maintained and has a huge area for the dogs. In the winter, they scoop up all the plastic pools and stuff so they don't get frozen over, and even in the snow, the place is well up kept. There is tons of room for the pups. There are two parks, a smaller dog park meant for dogs under 30 pounds or rather gentle play, and a larger dog park meant for rough play or the general public. Almost everyone goes in the large dog park, with every breed from great dane to tiny chihuahua, we have seen it all. It works really well too. Usually the small dog park is empty (sometimes we bring our dogs over there simply because our basset hound is a mess and kind of embarrassing - she makes awful noises that a lot of people mistake for something weird...I dunno...I can't blame them...she's sweet but a bit crazy) and our dogs (basset, corgi, and our friend's yorkie) run around and play happily. The park has some agility equipment, tons of pools in the summer, poo bags for your dog's waste, and picnic tables, little benches and gazebos, and just plenty of space for you and your dogs to have fun. Now, let's talk. One pet peeve here : do not, do not, do not, open the first gate, THEN OPEN THE SECOND GATE WHILE THE FIRST IS STILL OPEN. This has happened to me twice, and my corgi was *this* close to running out but my husband grabbed him. your dogs might come right back, but not everyone's will, it's double gated for a reason. Also, be sure the gates are closed. Be sure. You wouldn't want your dog getting away, so be careful with other people's. Also, sometimes people don't keep a good eye on their dogs and they use the restroom and no one picks it up. Or other annoying things. But that's not the park's fault. No. Overall, this is a great free dog park. It's worth coming to. read more

Located on Westwood Northern Blvd. between Montana Ave. and Boudinot, and in the Mt Airy Forest, the Mt. Airy Dog Park is a treasure on the westside. Despite the fact that there is another dog park on the eastside (behind the US Bank bldg by Lunkin Airport), I know many eastsiders who make the trek west just so their pooch can experience this little bit of doggie heaven. A former picnic area, converted to a dog park, this 5-acre piece of land is well-shaded, has plenty of seating for bipedal beings, and has two separate areas for big and small dogs. There are plenty of areas to hose your dog off, mens and womens restrooms, and a several miles of hiking paths behind it to boot. read more

I take my 4 crazy kids here all the time. I would recommend it to anyone. The only thing I do not like about this place are that when a dog fight breaks out the owners are really bad at breaking it up. Personally my dogs have never fought, but I know if they did I would stop them immediately. Some owners just watch there dog fight. I also work at a doggy daycare so I have experience in dog fights but that's the only complaint. But this is a really good dog park for your dog to run around and lose energy for a while. read more

Very nice dog park and getting better. Sometimes it can be sloppy for too long after rain but more importantly there are usually a good amount of dogs there and problem dogs or people don't seem to be an issue at all. park itself is nice. Very large. However we had horrible experience. There are few aggressive pit bulls there when we went there yesterday, especially one with a green hair female owner. We purposely stayed away from them. I played balls and frisbbe with my dog at the other side of park. However the pit bull came over and bite my dog. Great time today at Mt. Airy park. First time visit for me and my golden retriever Cain (1 1/2). Being honest - litlle nervous about neighborhood (Westwood) and perception it would be all about pit bull mixes. But LOTS of dogs and nice people. A few pits were there but only saw once dog tussle involving a Corgi (started it) and a Great Dane (tried to run away). Was a litlle dusty but Cain had a ball. Will definitely go back. Only reason not 5 stars as there was a dirt track down middle of rectangle and dogs got dirty but hey, it's a dog parK! Lots of grass on perimeter. Try it out.... read more

I would love to rate this higher. It's so well kept. It's shaded and there are a lot of benches. There are obstacles for the dogs and kiddie pools in the summer. There's a large and small dog park. Unfortunately, the dogs that come are very unpredictable and I don't feel comfortable. They are unaltered, unvaccinated, and often aggressive. There is rarely anyone monitoring. Several years ago someone shot another persons dog. People have pointed out to us that he still comes to the park (without a dog). Also, after dark this is a regular spot for drug deals as it is very poorly lit. I wish this could be fixed. It really is a beautiful park. read more

The Mt. Airy dog park is the best spot I've found to meet my Ohio friends on play dates with our respective dogs. The small dog space in the back is rarely occupied but the front section, a long stretch of dirt and grass with plenty of trees almost always holds a dozen dogs and their owners. The park provided old shopping bags to clean up after the dogs and a bare bones restroom facility is available right outside the fence. Picnic tables are scattered throughout the park and several hand pumps are available to provide the dogs fresh water to drink and play in. Towards the far end of the park by the road there is a suspicious fire hydrant. I'm not sure if it's real or just to satisfy some doggy desire to urinate on hydrants but it's kind of funny to see it standing all alone in a field of grass. I love Mt. Airy park, hike there frequently. It's really convenient that they have a space for my dog as well. read more

My little snugglebugs love running around outside. Since we live in an apartment a dog park is a good bet for us. I took my two little dogs and my medium sized foster to this park for the first time today. I have a neighbor who comes here 365 days a year and I can see why. My foster and little one had a ball in the little dog area. My slightly bigger little one was a bit frightened and stayed glued to me- hopefully when we go again she will run around like a maniac like her brother. The dog park is large (especially on the big dog side) and has lots of fun obstacles for the dogs. I imagine the dogs might get a little messy put here, but that's what the they like. I was most impressed with the people at the park. Everyone was super friendly and fun to talk with while the doggies ran around playing. Other dogs were really friendly too. This is definitely a place to check out if you have a social little pup. (or a big one) read more

This dog park is great. There is an area for small dogs and an area for all dogs. Each area has tons of open space for the dogs to run around. There are platforms/tunnels near the back of the park for dogs to play on. There are water fountains, bowls, and swimming pools for the dogs and benches and picnic tables for humans. The park is wooded and has lots of trees for a nice atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this park! read more

First I would like to say that I love this dog park. I have 2 shepards and a rotweiller mix and this is the only place they can run free. Most of the people I have met are pretty nice people and they know and understand dogs. But there are a few that get on my nerves. One of my shepards has a high prey drive and he will chase other dogs. I keep him muzzled so he can't bite or hurt any dogs, but he will chase other dogs. Most people understand this and don't have a problem with it. It's the people who start screeming and yelling as soon as a dog comes close to their dog. I am a responsible dog owner and I do everything I can to make sure my dogs don't hurt anybody. The police were called on me today and the lady who called them was not friendly nor nice before the police arrived. She claimed that my dog bit her dog even though he was wearing a muzzle. The officer asked how can the dog bite with a muzzle on? Then he asked me to take my dogs out just to appease this lady. I didn't like it and said so. Yes, I got angry and loud but it doesn't make any sense to me. My dogs names are Moses, Sampson, and Job. If anyone has a problem with my dogs being at the dog park would you please come talk to me about it whenever you see me at the park. I welcome any comments. read more
