I've been skiing at bachelor for my whole life. 13 years. Every weekend I'm up at the mountain, how great this place is alway depends on the conditions and how many people are up there. On blue bird days all lifts can be opened so people spread out. When it's windy, snowing, etc. is when lifts can be shut down which leaves me mountain crowded and limited. New fast pass line is stupid. Overall food is great great burgers, fries, and nachos. Bachy can have a lot to offer if you know what your doing and give it time. read more

Never skied Oregon before. Mount Bachelor is an absolute joy to ski. We skied three days in a row. The first was low visibility, but we had a blast. The second day we skied the summit, had excellent snow conditions. The third day was perfect. Longest lift line we had was maybe 1 minute. This is a place I would most definitely return. When trying to make connections to make sure that my AirPod was received, I was quite literally yelled at. When asked to be transferred 3 times to talk to someone who would listen to my story instead of trying to help my situation, I was hung up on. I hope that the resort realizes this, or perhaps they should, but the website design is just overly complicated and not straightforward. I'm also surprised that they will sell you a ticket on line, but that doesn't provide a parking spot. It should. The parking reservation system is just a waste of time, simplify with a first come, first serve and limit ticket sales accordingly. The other crazy part is that when you create and account, purchase a ticket, there's no receipt of the purchase provided nor can you print an order history so as to confirm the transaction. I've skied Mt. Bachelor since I was a boy. I came here for ski racing camps in the summer. As an adult I've skied here and even taken my son here during the winter, my how it's grown. The skiing is great, the staff mellow, the views breathtaking. It's under a hundred dollars still to ski and just a short drive to Bend if you need the city. Currently I'm winter camping in their parking lot with my Airstream. There are no hookups of course but get this, it's only twenty bucks for the night. Hey, this is ski in ski out at its best. I'm a T-Mobile guy and Service is full. I love it here and it's a great place for recreation and fresh air. read more

Loved our week at Mt Bachelor. Wow what a hidden gem in the middle of Oregon. Coming from St Louis I wouldn't have picked Mt Bachelor as my first place to ski but since we were visiting family this worked wonderfully. This place is rather big! We arrived the 2nd week in March and the skiing was still hopping this year. They had received 481 inches of snow already and still had a good 115 inch base. There are 2 main ski areas the West Village (main site) and the Sunrise Lodge. Unfortunately we had ski lessons at both places which took some good timing our our part. The shuttle only ran on the weekends as well which would have been helpful for us since we were there during the week. DEFINITELY TRY THE SKI AND RIDE IN 5! This is an award winning program and a must BUY if you are a first time skier at Mt Bachelor. For a little over $220 you get five 2-hour ski lessons during the season and if completed a season pass is free! In addition you get next season's pass at 50% off and also deals on ski equipment. Only good for new skiers to Mt Bachelor. You need to purchase this prior to Jan 31st. This is a great deal and a wonderful class. The teachers were awesome to our kiddos and they learned so fast. Mt Bachelor has a fair number of Blue slopes but only a handful of greens. Really enough for us. The mountain is huge but some of the lifts and runs are inaccessible depending on weather. The black bowls were closed the entire week we were there due to weather and ice. Overall a great place to ski. Even in comparison to the "big" mountains in Colorado. This mountain was epic. I had not heard of this mountain (and never would have thought of Oregon) until my Philly-based ski group planned a late season trip out here. I waited until late March and purchased the spring pass--a spring season pass for $200 that allowed me to visit Bachelor as many times as I wanted. If I was more local, this would be a steal, as they expect to be open until memorial day this year (2017). I am not surprised, given that when we arrived at the mountain we were greeted with 30 foot walls of snow surrounding the parking lot. On to the skiing: Every one of the ski days I was there that week, we had fresh powder. It is apparently not unusual for Bachelor to be like this through the end of April. Summit was open only one day of our trip, but the rest of the mountain presented some interesting challenges. There is terrain for every level skier (though the most extreme will need Summit to open). Compared to other mountains I have been to, I would say it is in between Breckenridge and Jackson Hole in challenge. Because it is a volcano, you do not seem to get the rock and narrow chute challenges you get at Jackson Hole, but it has steep, technical terrain and TONS of tree runs with fresh lines for days (especially now that Cloudchaser opened up the whole Low East area). You can stay in nearby Bend (Bachelor does not have its own accommodations), which boasts dozens of breweries and tons of restaurants (try to accomplish the Bend Ale Trail while you are there and you get a free pint glass). Our server wasn't very nice. We put our belongings at a high top bar table and ordered drinks at the bar unaware we had a server. Our server gave us major attitude for ordering from the bar and then proceeded to go off on the bartender in front of us for serving us. Drinks were great and the bartenders were great But the server was very disrespectful to us and other employees. Mt. Bachelor is a hidden gem in the Cascades. While it's justly famous for its downhill skiing, it's also great for cross country with varying levels of difficulty. They offer helpful ski instruction for beginners. There's a famous trail that was used for astronaut practice, it's that otherworldly. In the winter, its snow-covered slopes are a spectacle. A literal winter wonderland. If you're dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones you used to know... this is the place. Despite its lonely name (and its original name was "Brother Jonathan"!), it has its own volcanic chain. Absolutely love this place! On this - our 5th visit - we were reminded of how amazing the snow conditions can be even in the early season. But even more than that, we again experienced the friendliest and most knowledgeable staff in many years of resort shredding. Bachelor staff aren't just friendly when you ask for help - they actually spot you looking around quizzically and then approach you to offer service. If you need something basic, like a screwdriver, it's very possible that a kind, experienced staffer in her 70's will show you the way to it personally and quickly. Whether you're an expert soloist or a family of beginners, this mountain is fun and organized and efficient - and just a joy to experience. In an era of hyper-consolidation and greedy corporate recreation management, both Bachelor and their resort organization (PWDR) should be commended for delivering an experience that is top shelf and also relaxed and humble in its approach. The ski instructors are great and great with the kids!!! I'm giving two stars because the staff where you check in for the ride and five are awful!! Specifically Cody!!! He was the rudest person I've ever encountered and it completely ruined the day for me!! My son forgot his card that the instructors sign and Cody just kept yelling at us that there is absolutely nothing he can do and he cannot graduate him for on the ride and 5 without it! And we brought this up prior to my son starting his lesson for the day, at that time we were told "oh, it's not a problem." He was so obnoxious and disrespectful!! I know my son is not the first person to lose his card and there has to be another way they can see he had a lesson and was scanned in. read more

Twenty minutes from our house. Roads that are well maintained. No traffic. Staff always around to direct, answer questions, etc. great gift/gear shop, not over priced. My son loves the mountain. No complaints about lines, people, staff, and such. Bar area for those looking for libations with great representation from local brewers. Lift prices are what they are, but I think they are decent. I've heard complaints about the price if adult passes, but I think kid pass prices are just fine. Great ski lesson prices for their Might Mite program, quality instructors. read more

Mt. Bachelor - Snowy day at western lodge - Ski Resorts Near Me - Bend, Oregon

Mt Bachelor is a ski resort in beautiful central Oregon. It is a quick 30 minute drive from Bend and a 20 minute drive from Sunriver. Since Mt Bachelor is actually a butte (shaped like a cone), it is unique in that it has a very uniform slope. You can also ride chair lifts to the summit - even in the summer. The snow quality here tends to be drier and fluffier than the heavier (Cascade concrete) snow that resorts closer to the coast receive. The resort has a corporate feel but is very well run and family friendly. The lift lines usually move quickly. There are two lodges by the parking lots and another nice lodge at the halfway point of the mountain. They seem to only open the summit lift on the best bluebird days. However, when on top, you are treated to a 270 degree view of the surrounding mountains, and get to enjoy the views on the way down. Hiking up and dropping into the Cirque Bowl (crater) is also fun on powder days. The consistent grade of the mountain and excellent grooming lends itself to the sport of hard boot snowboarding. By far the best terrain on the mountain are on the extreme sides of the resort. Be careful going into the gladed Outback alone - I've been through there a few times and didn't see another person for 20 minutes. I would recommend this resort as a family ski destination. read more

The mountain: lifts, trails and smooth corduroy deserve a solid 4 stars, and on some sunny days - 5 stars. However, the pathetic "customer service" brings down the average to a lack-luster 2. They are entirely worthless. For those familiar with the 10 or 20-ride ticket, the unused portion is no longer valid the following 1 or 2 years. Wouldn't that be nice to be informed of this change prior to buying these fairly expensive rides? Two CSRs, on separate occasions, agreed I should have been told of this policy change when the tickets were purchased. However, "this situation" was out of their control to extend my 18 unused rides to the following year. My suggestion is for Mt. Bachelor to hire CSRs that have the capacity to work with the customer base in a positive manner; and let these hapless reps return to their hash pipes. read more

First of all I went here twice and both terrible experiences. 12/25/2015 came up here and rented skis and boots at the sunrise area. I also purchased a lesson. They put me in the absolutely wrong boot. Size 33. My foot size is 13 and slightly wide in the toe area. The boots caused excruciating pain in the ankle to where after a two hour lesson I could barely walk. Putting people in the wrong size boot could cause serious injury, especially for someone who has never been skiing before. A week later. I went to a ski shop named Hillcrest in Gresham and they properly fitted me with the correct size boots. Properly sized with two fingers behind my heel without the liner is a 29.5. I also picked up some new skis. 1/18/2015 I called the customer service number around 2:30. I informed the guy I was in Bend. I asked about coming up to make at least one or two runs. By the time I arrived I checked in in the rental area and asked about the lift. Oh we close the lift at 3pm. Then why didn't the person I called earlier not inform me rather than have me waste time driving up on icy roads. I would give 0 stars if possible. Tip 1: Avoid renting boots from this place if you have large feet. read more

OK, so I don't know since when "slidding (sic) on smooth ice" is comparable to fun boarding, but I do love Bachelor. Last time I was here we had 50 inches of snow in 6 days and the powder runs were amazing. The crazy thing is that the slopes were EMPTY. I stopped at one point in the middle of a sweet run and looked up and down the slope and it was just the two of us. Like having a piece of paradise to yourself. Bend is one of the fastest growing places in the west, so it probably won't stay this way for long. read more

Came here for 2 hours worth of glorious tubing for $14 when we had stopped by in Bend for the evening on the way to Yakima, WA. Went with a group of 8 and everyone had a jolly 'ole time racing down the hill. For many of us this was our first time tubing and LOVED that there was a lift that pulls your tube up the hill for you so you can focus on having fun and not sweating underneath all your layers. All the workers from the man at the ticket line, the ticket woman, and the workers at the tube park, everyone was really nice and funny. Everyone seemed happy to be there and very helpful with any questions we had. If you were like our group and didn't have time to ski/snowboard, the tubing park is fun, especially if it's your first time. Give it a try! read more

This is coming from an intermediate-advanced skier who has been to several resort destinations in CO, UT and CA. This mountain is huge with great terrain, yet its got a very low-key / unpretentious vlbe to it, the opposite of many big resorts. This is because Mt Bachelor isn't a destination resort, out-of-staters don't come here, its mostly locals skiing here and Oregoners are friendly low key folks, which makes it all the better. I went during first week of April 2014 during weekdays. As others have said before, very variable weather here. First day was cloudy / foggy, and the very next day was bluebird sunny. Most trails are well groomed, the snow is softer than the heavy stuff that drops at Mammoth Mountain, the people are friendly, there were no lift lines, the terrain is varied, and the views are breathtaking with no development anywhere around the mountain. If you are intermediate you will love it here. If you are advanced you will love it here. If you are expert you may be a little bored and unchallenged unless you hike for your turns. Best chairs to ski are Summit Express that takes you to the peak, and on the backside of the mountain, outback and northwest express lifts which have lots of solitude and great views for intermediate and advanced skiers. You don't have to be advanced to ski down from the peak, there are intermediate runs coming down it. Food on the mountain is not very good, but its cheap compared to other destination resorts like Park City or Mammoth. No hotels or development anywhere within 20 minute drive of this place, so stay in the town of Bend and enjoy several mirco-breweries all within walking distance of each other, and catch the ski park-n-ride shuttle that takes you to the mountain. But its so uncrowded during weekdays you can just drive yourself and park really close. Even park along a ski trail and just ski to your car. My only gripe about this place is that it needs chair lifts on the west side of the mountain to give easier access to a huge amount of advanced terrain acreage. An amazing mountain, and I plan on coming back every Spring. read more

I've been to Mt. Bachelor about 30 times in my life. Many of my favorite and best ski memories are from there. On a good day, it's comparable to anywhere. The weather can be crazy, but it brings the good stuff with it. The only real complaint I have is the ticketing process. Buying tickets online is clunky at best. Five days ago I waited 45 minutes in line to buy lift tickets. Why? Because the online process is archaic and there were so few ticket booths open/available at the base. This happens EVERY year during peak days. Let's go management, figure it out! If you want to step up to the big leagues of ski resorts, please PLEASE make it easy for your customers to get on the hill! read more

As we approached while driving on Cascade Lakes a spur of the moment decision was made and away we went. $38 later and we are ascending the mountain on a lift. Absolutely stunning views. We have been loyal skiers since 1974. The snow has been lovely as is typical. Sadly, the management has been a disaster this year. Tickets, parking, ParkWhiz, honoring last years tickets have all been onerous. It has taken hours of phone and PC time trying to make partial arrangements for our family of 7. I loved the fresh powder, the wide runs and the small crowd! There were times when it seemed like we had the whole run to ourselves! They also have very friendly volunteers who are skiing around, making sure everyone is doing okay. Food was also good. I couldn't believe I can have really good seafood chowder at a snow resort! Mt. Bachelor may be my 2nd favorite snow resort next to Whistler in Canada. I took out one star because the visibility was really poor. We couldn't go any further up because there would've been zero visibility. It was soooo disappointing as we heard the runs up the summit were fantastic! Anyway, we still had a really good time! It was definitely worth the 8-hour drive from SF Bay Area! read more

If I were only rating the quality of snow and terrain, this ski hill would get a solid 5. Central Oregon typically has far better snow for winter play than what Mount Hood normally offers. However, the business known as Mt. Bachelor brings the overall rating down to a 4. Prices on everything, from a 1-day lift pass down to a soda, are nothing short of outrageous. Staff mountain-wide are just friendly enough to make it out of the "indifferent" category. The whole place seems to cater more to the jet setters visiting on vacation than to the average local who can barely afford to come here. Every ski or snowboard enthusiast should try this mountain once, especially if you're not from Jackson Hole or another area with normally superior snow. It really is a great ski hill. But be prepared to pay big bucks for the privilege. read more

My review is from the perspective of a beginner snowboarder (my first experience was last year at Mt. Hood). I was at Mt. Bachelor for 2 days this past weekend, and I didn't really do much other than the beginner hill. On that note, I thought the beginner hill here was awesome! Way better than the beginner hills at Timberline or Meadows. Additionally, I did a lesson on the second day, and it was a GREAT deal; the general cost for a single day lift ticket was $76, whereas a lesson was $70 with a $20 lift ticket add-on. I essentially got a lesson for $14! I ate at the bar area in the lodge twice, and the service was abysmal both times. The first time the waitress barely checked on our table, and the second time it took about 45 minutes for my boyfriend and I to get what were essentially pre-made meals (soup and a hummus plate). I wouldn't have mentioned the bad service, but it happened more than once, which makes me think that that's the norm. read more

Mt. Bachelor does not even come close in comparison to any mountain in California or the surrounding central Oregon area. If the conditions are right, snowboarding or skiing in the spring time is amazing. Yah, the employees can be a little distracted or incompetent at times but if you're just going up there to ski or board, your goal really isn't to talk to the employees. As of right now, the price for an all day lift ticket is 79$. My aunt lives in Bend and she won't even go up there anymore because of the ridiculously inflated prices. Note: I went on craigslist and got some vouchers for 25$ each. It was a little sketchy because well, it's craigslist but it all worked out. My girlfriend and I ended up paying 53$ for two tickets and we had a blast. Also, check e-bay, they're some deals on there too. The mountain is gigantic and it pays to be explorative.
