*** Short sighted and small minded business. You know the person who never picks picks up the bar tab and always leaves the table when the check comes (ostensibly to hit the restroom). That's PowderHouse in a nutshell. Beware ... did you know PH has a 14 day return/exchange policy? Me neither. The way our recent exchange request was handled was the last straw for us. Background Our family of four has been a customer since 2013, and we have spent several thousand of $$$ with PH - outfitting our family of teens and adults with ski gear. Since 2013 we've purchased 6 pair of skis, 5 pair of boots, 6 sets of poles, 5 helmets all the way around, and a LOT more gear/clothes than I'd like to admit. What a mistake we made consolidating our business and extending our loyalty to Powder House - they don't understand how to reciprocate loyalty. For example - these helmets were avail at Steep-n-Cheap for $85, and $105 respectively). We'd have saved $100 on these two helmets...if we simply ordered online. But we purchased from PH instead, to support a local shop - even though they didn't have our color in stock. We've learned an expensive lesson demonstrating loyalty to Powder house over the years - and wasted a LOT of money shopping there. There are several great ski shops in town, encourage you to consider shopping someplace else down the street. Shout out to Matt - one of the staff at PH. DO NOT RENT FROM POWDER HOUSE. They love to commit fraud. Used to be a wonderful place to rent skis. Typically decent service, or as fast as they can be with how busy it gets. Went in this morning to rent performance skis (mid-tier package) for a few days. Gave an employee my boots, confirmed verbally that "yes, I want the performance package. Not basic." I skied half of the day until I realized this pathetic excuse for a rental shop CHARGED ME for performance skis, and GAVE ME THE BASIC PACKAGE. The employee looked me dead in the eyes as he handed me these bottom-tier dirt skis. I suppose Powder House now likes to intentionally attempt to DEFRAUD customers that they believe wouldn't notice. Never renting from here again. Pathetic excuse for service and value, since they seem more than happy to screw you over. read more

Prior to this week, I hadn't been on a pair of skis for 40 years. Having had such a great time on the mountain, I went to Powder House to scope some gear. Even though I was a walk-in, Chad found ample time for me and navigated me through the process, recommending a boot fitting first. He was incredibly knowledgable, insightful and considerate with his time. Even though his first boot selection was spot-on and the winner, he insisted that I try on a few more pairs for reference. This one star review is writing based on my customer service experience with staff Andy( if i don't spell it wrong )on January 4th between 5－6pm 2021. Hi manager (Chris), I haven't had the worst customer service for a long time but at your store with staff Andy on Monday night. I called the store right the way to find out the male staff who's bald and looks like thirty to fourty years old with mask on. when I first started looking for my ski gears for an entery level he came to the ski&snowboard area and turns on his "bossy mood" ever since. I would not forget how bad Andy treated me with his lack of behavior in profession. Over all, I don't think he cares if I was being patient and polite cause I sensed he has some sort of racist on me. However, it doesn't mean he can do whatever he feels like especially to harm an innocent customer's rights and feelings ON PURPOSE (put me to wait the last, cut me off to serve another customer without any notices and explanation, ignores me and put me on longer wait on purpose and finally abandoned me by excusing to step away and never come back eventhought we were still in a same space, so I waited in the corner again and watching him find another previous customer to chat again. not to mention he rudely refuses my first come first serve request). Until I finally saw another young male staff come to check and help when this area is obiously getting busy and crowdy. I really should thank the customer right next to me who told that young male staff that I was before her, so the young male staff helps me directly with his responsibility and proficiency much faster and much better. Andy was there whole time but didn't say a word until the lady customer stood out for me. The entire 30 -40mins experience with Andy not just shows how unprofessional he could be , but also reflecs more on what kind of person would do things unfairly ON PURPOSE by using he's "job power" to pursure his personal satisfications. If he's attitude wasn't that bad or obvious I would not be so serious on spending my time to write this review to you. I think it is awful for customers who has didfferent skin color and perheps look too young to buy pricy products should be treated with no respects at all by Andy's methods of serving customers. I strongly suggest him to fix this kind of attitude at the workplace. Cause it harms the business too. There are so many visitors with different races come to bend for outdoor activities. All other staffs were excellent with their helpful advices and friendly customer service compare to Andy. I will still return because I do like the services and products you provide at the store. I hope your business gets better amd better. If you have questions according to my experiences with Andy, I am willing to share more in details. On Christmas Eve day I went into Powder House just to look at new ski boots, thinking they would be much to busy to spend time on a fitting. The shop was busy but John, one of the boot fitters, took time to not only talk about what was new in ski boots but also spent quite a bit of time fitting me in the perfect pair. Since the bindings needed to be remounted he then helped me carry in all my skis! The repair shop was super busy but they had them done and ready for me by 9am the day after Christmas so I could ski! They even called me on Christmas Day to confirm setting for my bindings to make sure they be ready in the morning. I can't say enough about the good service I received from John and everyone I came in contact with and Powder House will always be my first stop for all things ski related! read more

Rented equipment bc I forgot my gear for my birthday trip. My local friends suggested this place and said it was the best in town. Really loved their service and were super helpful! However, I didn't really like their snowboard boots even after swapping out for a new pair. I tried switching when they first handed me my equipment bc I already knew, but I came back the next day and Christian found a better pair for me. If you're reading this Christian- you're amazing and I love your mustache! I love their board selection though just not the boots- my feet hurt all day. We were on a family ski trip to Mt Bachelor. Having taken years off of skiing we all were in need of gear. I called Powder House asking questions about if reservations were needed prior to my trip. A friendly employee ensured me that they were not needed. We arrived to the shop the day before our rental just after 3 pm. Good thing we were early as there was a sizable line. Nice thing was the shop is super efficient at giving you forms, clip board, pen, and by the time we got to the front (15 minutes) we were ready to get fitted. A very nice employee measured us all up, asked us the right questions, and in no time had 3 complete sets of gear ready to load. I was relieved as they really do have plenty of inventory and I didn't need a reservation. Phew! Since I was skiing 3 of 5 days we had to return our gear, only to return the next day and re-rent. Luckily they send the completed form back with you plus new forms that you can fill out with all your sizing, making this process even speedier. This is the only place things went wrong. Despite me showing the shop employee the form with my kids size, we arrived at the mountain with a boot 1/2 too small. This did cause some discomfort but not as much as if I were to drive all the way to Bend for an exchange. I will be better next time checking the sizes on the boots! I would highly recommend using Powder house for all your rental needs and for outdoor gear purchasing. Nice people and reasonable prices. read more

Went to powder house for all our skiing needs, rentals, gear etc. they have nice stuff. I bought a pair of goggles and when I got up to the mountain realized they were way too light for sunny days. I did not wear them skiing that day. I went back to powder house maybe 4 days later to see if I could get a darker pair. The lady behind the counter said they were damaged (even though that's exactly how they were given to me) and that I couldn't return. Crazy cuz we spent a lot of money there and were planning on continuing to spend money there if not for her attitude and unwillingness to help. Super disappointed. read more

Wow, I cannot say enough about how awesome every single employee at Powder House is. I went in this week to buy an AT set-up and had such a good experience with boot fitting and the service shop. Even though it was insanely busy, every employee seemed authentically committed to ensuring that my equipment was comfortable and that I knew how to use it and have a great time on the mountain. My husband I were looking for new ski boots and we walked in and went to the boot fitting lab. We were really lucky to have Cory fit our boots, and we were extremely impressed with his knowledge and attention to detail. He was very professional and thorough, and fun to chat with too. He helped us both find boots that are perfect for our feet and skiing ability. I have had custom fit boots before, but have not had this caliber of experience in a ski shop before. We purchased demo skis from this same shop at the end of last season and we had a great experience with those purchases too. I decided this was the year I was going to buy new ski equipment and was referred to Powder House by several friends. Absolutely wonderful experience, and thrilled with my purchase. Had a boot-fitting with Kyle, an extremely knowledgeable, professional and friendly guy. The process was very thorough - have never had such a detailed fitting, and Kyle asked lots of questions (and really listened) to make sure it was exactly the right fit. He gave lots of great guidance on how to choose a boot that was appropriate for me, but it was clearly his intention that I buy a product that worked for me and was what I wanted - unlike experiences I've had in the past where a salesperson condescendingly tries to sell me what THEY think I should buy. Going back to get skis poles and bindings next week- I can't wait to hit the slopes!! read more

I can get ski boots for a pro discount elsewhere, but I buy from Powder House because they truly are experts and they know how to achieve a comfortable fit. I rented cross country skis, boots and poles. I was fitted with men's 5.5 boots and was told they would work just as good. Well, they didn't - my heels did not stay down and the clip rubbed into my ankle pretty badly- and I had to cut my skiing day from 4 hours to 30 minutes. I took the equipment back and the man I spoke to had no sympathy and said they don't carry gender specific gear because they don't make money on it. He then went on to explain how you can get 2 cross country ski setups for less than $500. They should have refunded part of the rental fee because it was a bad fitting and the boots were not good quality enough to rent out. Since they didn't we will go elsewhere to buy our ski stuff this winter. They saved $10 but missed out on hundreds . Update: Chris from Powderhouse called and said they will be getting better rental equipment soon. He also said to bring in my receipt and they would give a complimentary rental with the better gear. My wife and I recently started skiing and decided it would be a more enjoyable experience to purchase boots that actually fit vs mountain rentals. Travis and Forest were able to get my wife and I into the most comfortable boots either of us could imagine, even with both of our foot troubles. During fittings I mentioned that we were interested in season rentals for skis and poles.. by the time we had found our boots we each had a pair of skis to rent for the season. I am very appreciative that both Travis and Forest fitted us and the process was so SMOOTH and STRESS-FREE.The price was much less than I had budgeted for and I can't wait to visit again for all my snow needs. We have been renting skis and boots for our 2 children for over 5 years on a seasonal basis at the Powder House and my wife and I purchased our skis and boots there as well. The experience was great until this year. Upon returning the kids' skis, we were charged $40 due to excessive wear on my son's skis. We were told he used them in a parking lot. After explaining that there was no parking lot involved and my son used his skis one time at a ski in ski out resort in Whistler, Chris, a manager, insinuated that my son skied more than once. When I said my son only used their skis once, because the skis provided by the Powder House were too long for him, Chris said that my son skied over a lot of rocks. I could have said there were no rocks and Chris would have come up with another reason that he was right and I was wrong. The bottom line is that I don't care about the $40. The attitude of the staff and management was to prove the customer wrong. Terrible way to do business. read more

One of the worst experiences renting from this place. They made us wait over 30 mins so we wandered the floor looking at their merch. When we finally got called to fill out a form, we waited another 15 minutes. It was a mad house in there, people cutting in line and I told one of the lady managers with blond hair, that there was no system in place to organize these people. She didn't seem to care. She didn't apologize for the inconvenience or anything. A few people had cut in front of us so we had to wait extra on them. She referred to herself as one of the managers. It was pretty discouraging to provide feedback to the managers of this place to get "I wasn't here to see it" as a response. Not coming back. Absolutely terrible customer service. We are back to Bend again this year! There are limited choices so we are reluctantly back here to get some skis for one day. Remembering my experience last year, I shared what happened and the guy suggested fitting for intermediate instead of beginner so the skis will not fall off so easily. We paid the upgraded boots like last year. Well, I still couldn't tell if this works because unfortunately, when we got to the slopes, I got very ill and could not ski. I changed the rating because when we returned to Powder House the lady manager was nice enough not to charge my portion of the rental after showing her my receipt at the slopes. The staff were not pleased so I guess only the lady manager (Lindsay?) was human enough to sympathize with what happened to me. We needed to fit the fam with skis package for half/ 1 day. 5 star service -friendly and helpful However, when we got to the slopes, the boots don't click into the skis - same problem for all 3 out of 4 of us. We spent considerable amount effort to get the boots in. What should have been a 3 second job putting on my skis ended us wasted almost 30mins just trying to help each other get our boots into the skis. I've rented gear all over the world, first time having trouble like this. It's either they don't size them properly (since this happened to all 3 of us- the 4th had slightly less trouble), I assume it's the sizing issue. Otherwise, it's the LOUSY skis that they rent us.... I was thinking to myself if I fell and kicked off my skis halfway in the mountain, there's no way I can get those boots into the skis... my boots also ill fit. Unbelievably knowledgeable staff. Devoted, they cater to the customer's every whim. I was clueless about boots and skis. That didn't matter. They took the time to educate me. Their experts had a sense of humor, spent ample time and made the process fun. I have weird feet, but they were able to find the perfect boots for me, put me at ease and explain many options so I could make a well-informed decision. I purchased custom boots and skis. Choosing skis was equally satisfying and there was no sales pressure--I needed an extra day to consider options and they were happy to give me that. They gave me the option to demo certain skis and use the demo rental money toward purchase if I decided to buy--even if I ended up buying a DIFFERENT set of skis. (They explained that renting the demo was still helping me pick out the skis that were right for me, even if I bought a different pair). Sometimes brick-and-mortar have to charge a little more in order to pay staff, maintain the building, etc. If you find that is the case here, it is totally worth it.
