Part coffee shop part vintage collectable paradise this sweet little spot emits a lovely glow of vintage charm. And while the coffee is a bit average the food ain't half bad. I recommend scrutinizing their delizioso toasties (Mozzarella and prosciutto omnomnom.) and the veritable selection of cake and cookies. The place gets understandably packed for breakfasts but is well worth a visit when out and about in Annerley.

It's a busy cafe, on a busy stretch of road, so you can expect it to be noisy. The coffee is creamy and strong. The food is worth a mention- try one of their sandwiches. They're yum, and very affordable. I probably come here more for the food than the coffee to be honest (nothing beats a good sanga). Go sit down at long table that runs down the middle of the space, or sit in the window and people watch, or...car watch, as it does look out onto bustling Ipswich Road. The collectables are cute, but I always get the feeling they are more ornamental, an actual part of the shop, rather than goods to be sold. They have an excellent menu, friendly helpful staff and a tasty range of drinks to tempt all buds. It really is very nice indeed. The front garden offers shaded tables to relax or you can choose indoor seating to get away from the weather. There's even things for the kids to play with and they're pet friendly too, should you wish to dine with your well behaved fur baby. Top marks.

Probably the best coffee you'll find on Wickham terrace. They have a small but quality range of cabinet food including wraps, paninis, cakes, and biscuits. In winter they have lovely soup but they don't make much and it sells out early in the day. The staff are helpful and efficient and the prices are reasonable. Because The Mill does the vast majority of its business with medical staff and patients who are only around on weekdays (Wickham terrace is pretty deserted on weekends) , The Mill isn't open over the weekend which means that it's not going to be an option for a Saturday or Sunday morning coffee if you happen to be in the area. The Mill is definitely a venue more suited to winter, because with it's very sunny outdoor only seating on the concrete patio of Watkins Medical Centre, it can get pretty scorching in summer. The same characteristics make it a challenge in the rain, although they do have large umbrellas over some tables. The outdoor setting can be a drawback on really hot or rainy days, but in general is a plus because of the frequent pleasant breezes and beautiful fig tree out the front. Just watch out for the mynah birds, they have been known to steal my toast.

I've frequented The Coffee Mill a few times, typically when I've gone to see my ear, nose and throat specialist to have my sinuses "cauterised" (a very interesting procedure which yes, does involve the burning away of the sinus tissue to assist breathing.) Leaving my specialist without being able to feel part of my face because of the anaesthetic, I'm careful when I'm eating here. I always order a coffee and I don't need it spilling down the side of my numb, droopy lips. (I can be clumsy enough on my own, thanks.) The coffee is decent but I always find the food here to be excellent. The last time I visited I threw health concerns cheerily to the wind and bought a beef sandwich, spilling out gravy all over the table without a care it was just that damn delicious. I was ravenous at the time and indifferent to the few people watching a slight-figured girl-woman devouring a sandwich like it was her last meal. This questionable novelty wore off after a minute or two and I ate my meal outside, fairly undetected. There's some relaxing out-door seating here, perfect for people-watching. Of course it's not an upmarket cafe, so you're sitting at a dirty-ish table on top of a cement floor. But anyone with eyes can see that before they come here, and I find this contributes to the cafe's casual vibe.

I love this place, the biscotti is really nice with your coffee too if you ever get the chance. The Chai Latte's are nothing to be scoffed at either, with the creamy frothed milk, how can you not just love it.

Being a humanities student at the University of Queensland, I practically live in the Social Science and Humanities Library, where Merlo is located. They have probably the best position of any of the cafes on campus, connecting to the library but also having plenty of outdoor seating jetting out into the iconic sandstone encompassed great court area. I have spent all too many hours sitting with a coffee here, watching the crows, chatting with other students, reading, writing, and even having meetings with my thesis supervisor. Merlo gets pretty busy but they are well staffed for it and even when there is a giant line up you always get a smile. They churn their coffees out pretty quickly so you never have much of a wait for either takeaway or table service. And the coffee is good. I regularly get either their smooth latte, delicious iced coffee in summer or delectable hot chocolate with marsh mellows in winter. The food is also good. They have a nice selection of foccacias and toasties as well as some chocolate cookies that are true indulgence. I adore this Merlo, not only because the service is good and the coffee and food hit the spot but because it is beautifully situated and has become such a prominent part of my university years. I totally recommend BarMerlo UQ if you find yourself on campus.

The food on offer looked delicious but as I was happy with just a plain croissant with my coffee I cant comment more, although watching how the food was presented to other customers was impressive. The cafe staff were polite, friendly and and helpful. I was only in Brisbane for a few days but used The Room wth Roses as my regular coffee cafe. Next time I am in Brisbane I wont have to go searching for decent coffee!!!
