Not our first time here but definitely our last. When we asked my youngest where he wanted to go to celebrate his 6th birthday, his response "hibachi!" I made reservations via email stating that we were celebrating his birthday. I even confirmed with the hostess and the cook that they knew it was his birthday. So imagine my surprise when the waiter brings us our check without even asking if we wanted dessert. My husband and I just looked st each other and thankfully were able to run to Giant on the way home to pick up a cake so we could sing Happy Birthday to the little guy. How disappointing! Food was average but not great. Service was awful. There were 5 of us for hibachi. My wife ordered udon and didn't get it until we were all finished and after I had to get up and find our server. Our server had two Hibachi sections. I counted and that was 34 people. So, not necessarily his fault but lousy management. Additionally, i would expect him to remove my wife's dish from the bill since she basically ate alone while we watched but that didn't happen. Bad management again. Horrible service! We had a 7:00 reservation , and they didn't sit us till 7:45( after we spoke to management). We spoke with the host and hostess after they sat 2 other tables. The host said he was " confused" as to what table was waiting on the reservation. Extremely disappointed! read more

Mt. Fuji has a great atmosphere. You can't deny that- whether sitting at the bar, the dining room, or the hibachi tables. Most of the food that I have sampled has been good, standard Japanese food. I have no complaints because I have always left feeling satisfied. It may not be gourmet (and not as good as neighboring Oishi) but definitely serves its purpose. I have not sampled any of the specialty rolls because none of the combinations have appealed to me, but the Alaska rolls and yummy Gyoza Lemongrass Soup makes me go back for more. read more

One star cause 0 not available. Came in early on Friday night(before 6) for hibachi. We were seated immediately. Then nothing. Took over half an hour just to get a drink, 10 minutes later soup and salad came. Still no chef. After foolishly waiting an hour, I told the waiter I'm out of here. He kept saying is the food is coming soon. I then had to yell I want see the manager. He then took me to the manager where they stood and had 1 minute conversation in a foreign language. The manager then told me they were ready now. I said no, I'll pay flor my soda if you want but I can't enjoy my meal after waiting all this time. Had not been here in years. Very sad to give this review...Mt. Fuji was for years my 'go to' sushi place...the bar was always hopping, the food was amazing, and the vibe was great. The sushi is still very good, and the food isn't the problem...its the attitude of the staff. On a recent visit I found the bartender unwelcoming, inattentive, and frankly somewhat passive aggressive. For a spot when a quick snack and a drink is going to be north of $50 it would be nice to feel like I'm not behind enemy lines. I was one of the first customers at Mt. Fuji when they opened...and for years it was awesome in every way. (back with Sammy was running the lounge area). In the past few years, the atmosphere has grown tiresome and the overall experience is no longer worth the price of admission. Its a shame...the food is still very good, but if I am going to be treated with disdain for simply wanting to grab some sushi....I'll take my business elsewhere. Came here the other day restaurant was very nice and clean the menu has a lot of options a little pricey but when my food came it was well worth it I thought. I got the spicy trio sushi which I believe was spicy tuna spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail. Each fish came with six rolls first thing I noticed was that the roles were much bigger than other restaurants I've been to also more actual sushi was inside of the rolls. I am at those location in Newtown. First time I have been here. Have eaten in Southampton many times and always enjoyed. I am writing this review because I am bored. Called and asked for a reservation for 6 pm..they asked if we could come at 6:15. Told us table would be ready in 5. Twenty minutes later we sat down. The service here is terrible. The owner is very rude and does not care about keeping you as a customer. The bartender Dave openly badmouths customers to other customers. The service from him is very slow and he thinks he is some kind of television mixologist. He keeps a bunch of strange concoctions in mason jars with no labels and mixes them into your drink. There is no telling what is in them, where it comes from, or the expiration. If you ask him how he knows what he is doing, he will tell you that he learned from YouTube. Overall, they seem spoiled by the generosity of wealthy Newtown patrons and completely take it for granted now, even though all the staff is foreign. read more

Here's the deal ....the hibachi and sushi are top notch ....fabulous. the beautiful cocktails are amazing as well . What sucks is the service my wife and i have been there 3 times in the last 8 weeks and invariably you wait and wait and wait .....and bloody wait for a cocktail ......the last time there our apps came and went and the main course came and we still hadn't gotten our premeal cocktails ......when we finally flagged down our server they smirked were dimissive and stated "the bartender is realy swamped tonite and your drinks will be up soon" keep in mind that it was 6:30 at night and the place was only moderately full . When our drinks finally came we were informed that if we wanted another round we should order it then because it would be at least 15 to 20 minutes for them . This has essentially happened every time we went there and this is not a cheap joint ......they better realize that there are 3 other excellent sushi resturants whitin a 3 block radius that are just as good or better than them ........if the barman can't keep up then get another guy behind the bar to help him ......sorry to rant about drinks (and they are epic i will say.....just fabulous ) but sushi and cocktails sorta go hand and hand . We came here for a quick bite. We wanted hibachi food, but not the whole show, so we sat in the restaurant side. Soup and salad came quickly, followed almost immediately by our entrees. The "hibachi" food was in a sauce...I have never seen that before. I then noticed that my calimari was breaded and had a frozen taste to it. Disgusting!! They probably opened up a bag of frozen, breaded calimari and passed it off as cooked hibachi style. This meal was not hibachi! When I complained about it, we got a lame excuse that this food was cooked in hibachi sauce (meaning we were supposed to know it wouldn't be cooked on the hibachi, even though we were told it would be). Recently dined here for first time. At first glance of their menu I was unimpressed with sushi selection. Limited amount and rolls just didn't seem that innovative and interesting. I ordered the sushi bento box which comes with 1 roll, small salad, miso soup. I ordered the angry dragon roll and it was so good. The roll was packed and big and the sauce was so good. Went in for hibachi and were told there was no space for hibachi. The family behind us came in with no reservation and were seated at a hibachi table. I guess our party of 2 threw off their numbers. Little did they know (or they just didn't care), we knew the family behind us. Sat in the main dining room and ordered hibachi meals and were met with mediocre food at best. My steak and shrimp comb had cold steak, lukewarm shrimp with piping hot veggies and rice. No consistency at all which leads me to believe the part of the meal had been sitting a while. The chef never cracked a smile all he did was cook serve and that's all...no tricks except the egg in his hat trick. Looking around all their chefs look miserable. We had to ask three time to please bring the birthday boy a sprite. Had to ask for spoons for the desert...ice cream melting while we wait. So my husband and son in law still gave 15% tip which wasn't earned BUT SHE TOLD US THAT 15% WASN'T ENOUGH BECAUSE THEY SPLIT THE TIP . I could not believe they wanted to go back and forth on how much we should tip for bad service. My husband paid the additional tip and we left. What a racket!!! Should've read reviews before going. Went early on a Sunday. Had a big party with reservations for hibachi. Our party included guests from Europe and we were also celebrating a birthday. I have always like to dine in Mt. Fuji for dinner services but this is there first review that I'm giving. I would give it a 3.5 if I could. Mt. Fuji has good sushi rolls as each roll is creative but flavorful. This restaurant is certainly not traditional since the food are more to the fusion side of food. What I recommend is an entrée which is a duck dish. The skin is quite crispy and the sauce is flavorful. I would not recommend to have the habachi dinner, it's mediocre. The general dining area is a good place for a casual dinner through not fine dining. read more
