Came here with the kids for hibachi dinner, and they both loved it! One had the scallops (I can't believe she ate them...they grow up fast!) and the other had chicken which he liked. They were a little upset that they could not get the white rice option when they heard someone else doing that with their own kids, but it worked out. My mixed drink was nice but almost too sweet, and my seafood hibachi was quite good. Expensive, so maybe I'll pare down what I order again. I ordered via the website. The entree that I ordered made no mention of shrimp at all. I would have noticed because I have a severe shellfish allergy. When I picked up my order it had shrimp included. When I called to see if they would replace the order the gentleman that answered the phone said "I don't know what to tell you, that's how we make it. Sorry". $45 on food that I'm not able to touch and they don't seem to care at all. I'd recommend trying elsewhere. He didn't speak , didn't smile & when my son asked for noodles he told them "we don't have any ". If you're coming here for a true hibachi experience, keep on driving. I'd been wanting to go to a hibachi restaurant for a while since moving here, and finally set out to do so. We called to make a reservation for 2, and were told to come at 8pm; 8pm, and we were there ready to be seated. Inside, the space is really nice-- dark ambiance and modern decor. The regular tables are set apart from the hibachi, which is nice, as there are often parties around the hibachi tables-- and there were: at least 2-4 groups of teens enjoying their birthdays. It took 45 minutes to be seated, which is extremely frustrating. What is the point of a reservation if you are going to be standing there for almost an hour? I wish places like this would just be up-front. All we were told was, "we are waiting for people to leave.... shouldn't be long." I, too, have been guilty of finishing my food and sitting over an hour to chat--- so saying that the restaurant is waiting for tables to leave isn't very reassuring to patrons who are waiting to be seated; especially those whose reservation was 45 minutes prior. When led to the back where the hibachi is, we were seated right on top of another couple. It was literally the 4 of us crammed into one corner; eventually, when we saw no more people were going to be seated there, we mutually agreed that it would be better to slide down and afford each other some more room. Food was pretty typical for hibachi and it was enjoyable. I only wish the noodles would come standard as they do in some other hibachi places; instead, we had to order them as a side dish. Mt Fuji has some good point's lots of free parking, clean and updated interior and the food at the hibachi grill was pretty good. They have a bar that you can eat at and seats about twelve. It has several dining rooms with seating for a large group or just two. They have 4 hibachi grills that hold about 10 people. The hibachi food can be ordered at the tables and the menu foods like appetizers, deserts can be ordered at the hibachi grills so no limitations of where you have to be to order anything on the menu. So my experience started around 7:00pm on a Saturday night when we met the hostess and she said the next opening for a hibachi grill was 7:30. We moved to the bar and both ordered drinks. Mine was a Margareta "straight up" and it was in a short martini glass. At 7:30 the hostess seated us and we paid the bill at the bar with a twenty dollar bill and left the rest for a tip. At the grill we ordered another round of drinks and dinner. It was then the bartender came to us and asked about his tip! I have never had a server ask about his/her tip. My husband explained he left four dollars on the bar and that did not seem to work for the bartender and he left. We begrudgingly found three singles and my husband walked it over to the bar and gave it to him. We think the confusion was from the bar when we moved down three seats. Maybe the bartender assumed we just never left a tip since we were not in our original spots when we first sat down. We seemed to have gotten past that problem until our drinks showed up. I ordered a margarita, "straight up" and asked for it to be in a tall martini glass this time. When I got the drink the second time in a tall martini glass it was half full. I took it back to the bar and the bartender insisted the tall martini glass had more volume then the short martini glass. I even showed the bartender the tall and short martini glass was the same volume wise by pouring one into the other at the bar and both glasses were still half empty. I have never had a problem getting a margarita in a tall martini glass when I've ordered it straight up. Look this is the thing I don't know if there is a manger but I was not going to argue about a drink. 99.9% of the bartenders in the world would not argue about a dollar worth of booze and would make a new drink the way the customer wanted. Not this bartender he's going to argue with me for a dollar worth of booze. Needless to say that's was the end of our drinking that night at Mt Fuji. The hibachi show was not much more than any other hibachi grill. It was the usual spinning egg, onion volcano, big flames and squirt bottle with oil shaped like a little boy peeing. The cooks seemed to be going thru the motions and seemed to be as bored as the four teens that could not get off their phones that's how exciting the show was. The food was good but really I could have cooked it. How hard is it to screw up food that essentially just needs to be browned and served? I have no idea when you order desert at the hibachi grills since we were never asked. This is the bottom line for me there are two other hibachi grills 10 minutes from this one and I don't have to argue with the bartender for a drink. That night we managed to find another bar and bartender in Newtown who had no problem making a Margarita straight up in a martini glass and after a couple of rounds we left a 20 dollar tip. read more

For starters I have been here a total of 3 times so far.... I will go back for sure. My first visit was with a rambunctious group ready for some hibachi shenanigans and it was blast. The chef we were paired with was funny and entertaining. What I liked best was his ability to not contaminate my veggie style dinner with the rest of my friends meals. I was worried I would have to order off the menu and miss out on all the fun, but alas I did not. So on my next visit I wanted to try the sushi and made reservations for a Saturday, knowing from some others that it gets really busy on the weekends. I was seated in the side dining room, which I thought was more romantic and cozy. The sushi was very good and inventive too. My largest complaint of bad sushi most of the time is the temperature at which it is served. Mt. Fuji has it going on in the sushi department. Wonderful, fresh, and just the right temp. Too cold and the fish is not as tasty. So good I went back a third time for sushi and was satisfied all over again. Went there with 5 other people for dinner. We were seated promptly, but sat in the back of the restaurant, where it was cold. It wasn't until the chef began cooking that it warmed up enough to feel comfortable. The drink selection is nice, although the prices for cold sake was a bit high. Orders for food ranged from chicken and shrimp to steak and crab legs to chicken and salmon. The food was pretty good, even though everything was doused in soy sauce. My brother, who ordered the crab lags, said that he got a few tough pieces. For $29 bucks, you'd hope that every piece was tender. The chef was entertaining. He flipped raw zucchini into each person's mouth for sake. He overestimated how much sake could fit in my mouth. Nothing like smelling like sake for the evening. (I will admit it was my fault for closing my mouth instead of letting him know I could not gulp anymore sake). Overall, we had a good time. Our friend had never seen hibachi style before, so he was thoroughly entertained. Located in a shopping center, there's no problems with parking. Very good! On arrival, it is clean and the staff are pleasant. We were seated quickly at our table as received our drinks quickly. Very good! Drinks were cheap compared to other hibachi restaurants. Apps were great. We had Spicy Tuna Gyoza and it was fantastic. Spicy tuna with avocado sauce, yummy. Very Good! The Hibachi itself was average. The cook did a fine job entertaining and he was fun to watch. Not as crazy as some but did a fine job. Off the Hibachi, we had Kobe beef, scallops and Shrimp. All good, no complaints with the food. Good! Sushi: Unbalanced roll. Arguably the best sushi roll I have ever had...and I have been to some of the best in the US. It just has everything I want in a sushi roll. Extremely tasty and a good portion. Price was good. The bill came to $130 including tip which is very good compared to our usual places in NJ and NYC. PROS: Ample parking Good service Food is good Prices are very fair Staff are very friendly CONS: Avoid during busy times, staff are good but get overwhelmed. Went there a little while back for an anniversary dinner with my wife. Pros: Parking was good. That's about all I can say. It is like going to a funeral for someone you don't like, and the best thing you can say about the person is that they had nice hair. Cons: Sushi was bad, as in not fresh. My filet was harder than shoe leather and my wife almost cut her wrist open on the chipped plate. I sent her order back and we left and had Chinese instead. Even worse (yes, there is a worse!) was the bar. This place is supposed to be a nice restaurant. They have a bar that is in the front dining area. There was a game on the TV set, and the four people in the bar were yelling and screaming as if they were at the game. It sounded like they were in a Sports bar. Everyone in the front dining area kept looking at the bar, several shaking their heads. I also saw some people leave before we did that came after we did, and we left a couple minutes after we got our main course! It was pretty impressive looking and the sushi tasted fresh, but it was a kind of boring. I've had similar "boats" at other places that were more interesting when it came to the flavor combination. I was told they don't have tea at the bar, of course I engaged in a conversation to explain to me why this was not available to me. let me say that I had 6 people with me drinking alcohol ( expensive) drinks, not just beer. What happened to the bar? It used to be a hopping spot with a friendly bartender, now David is a downer and is quite rude. We ate at the bar, and when the food arrived David held my plate on an angle and basically shoved it in my face until I took it and set it on the bar. The sushi was ok. When my wife was looking over the bill she noticed that David tried to sneak a 4th drink on the tab, and was incredulous when I pointed it out. This is the BEST Japanese place in the area. I usually get either one of their MANY delicious sushi or their noodles (the pad thai and the yaki udon are mind-blowing), with some Tuna Gyoza (you absolutely must try this). I asked for the chef to make my food spicy, and they said they don't do that, but obliged me with a dish of hot, hot sauce to add to my food. I wasn't impressed with the miso soup. As a vegetarian, I was worried that eating at Mt. Fuji would be a problem. I went with a group of six people - my sister, her fiance, my parents and my husband. My husband and I looked at the menu before being seated and decided that the hibachi was out, so we sat in the regular dining room. This is a very beautiful restaurant! We didn't realize that our main entree would come with miso soup and salad, so we ordered the vegetable gyoza lemongrass soup with tofu. It was out of this WORLD delicious, but the serving was huge...and only $6! You get a huge bowl of soup, whereas I was just expecting a small cup. My sister and husband got the same soup, and my mother got the clam soup which was beautifully presented. She said her soup was also delicious and would go back again for it. We also had an order of the kimchi pancakes. Again, didn't realize we'd get so many so we ended up passing them around the table trying to pawn them off on everyone else because the soup was very filling. They were tasty, though I think I would have preferred their kimchi instead (maybe next time.) My father had the snapper, loved it. My sister got the Angry Dragon rolls, which...I wish I could tell you what was in them, but just know that they were enormous (much like their appetizers were) and will fill you up easily! All of their signature rolls sounded good. Her fiance had some sort of spicy shrimp dish, which he said was very good. Now, my husband and I were nervous about ordering the Teriyaki tofu because usually at restaurants that also serve meat they aren't very good at preparing tofu, but they really surprised us! They gave us a huge portion of tofu, which was good because we were still hungry, and it came with some lightly stir fried teriyaki vegetables. We loved it, and would go back in a heart beat. This is the only sushi place my husband and I will go to in Newtown. We love it! It is a fusion place, but the food is outstanding. The fish is always fresh and the portions are good-sized. The drinks are terrific. And I have never had juicier calamari that the ones they serve here! It's a busy place, so if you are looking for a quiet sushi restaurant this is far from it! They have hibachi, too, but we usually come here for sushi. So many appetizer choices too and always something new on the menu that surprises is in a lovely way - like the spicy squash soup! I'm beginning to think that I'm overly picky when it comes to Japanese Steakhouses. Please don't get me wrong, Mt. Fuji is an above average Japanese Steakhouse, but I don't think I would go out of my way to go back there. I went on a Friday night with a large group of friends and to my surprise, we were seated rather fast! Once we got seated, most of the people at my table ordered drinks from the bar while we waited for our chef to arrive. I ordered an a appletini, which was alright, nothing special, but not terrible either. I ordered the steak and chicken hibachi meal and also got a side order of noodles. The noodles were fantastic, possibly my favorite part of the meal! The chicken was very tender and delicious as well. Also, the other highlight of the meal was the amazing ginger salad dressing! Now on to why I'm only giving three stars. Our sever only had my table and one other while we were there (he had a third that left before we placed out orders), yet he was almost nowhere to be seen. Most of my table ordered bar drinks and waters. Only a handful of us actually got our waters, and when the rest asked the waiter for their waters he never brought them. Also, myself and the two people sitting next to me ordered the chicken and steak combo. One friend ordered it medium, my boyfriend ordered medium well and I ordered well. The chef decided to give us all medium. As someone who really enjoys well done steak, I was extremely annoyed! I wasn't even given the chance to correct him. My final complaint was the soup, I don't know why, but I just did not enjoy it. Overall, Mt. Fuji is a pleasant enough dining experience and the prices are slightly lower than some of the Japanese Steakhouses in the area. We went here for my sister's birthday dinner on a Sunday night around 5:30. Make reservations for hibachi! Because there was a large party and we could only sit in the dining room. The atmosphere was very cool. At first I was weary about how close the tables were to each other but it was fine. Unfortunately every time someone walked into the restaurant, there was a freezing draft. We orders from the hibachi menu. The rice was good, full of veggies and the soup and salad were great. I got the filet and scallops and it was amazing! Unfortunately everything was pretty much instantly cold because of the draft. It was kind of pricey and I probably will not go back to the dining room. I might try hibachi or sushi, or maybe go for a celebration when the weather is warmer and all my food doesn't taste like it was cooked in a blizzard. He then proceeded to tell the other customers at the bar 'people don't appreciate good drinks around here'! So I left a 25% tip and said thanks! We then went to our hibachi table. Excited bc it was my sisters birthday and ready for the fun to begin! Well...let me tell you...if you want a fun bday dinner don't go here. The chef we had was miserable! I was expecting some 'hey, ho, heyyyy!' Throw a shrimp in your mouth and do some fun tricks. He literally didn't even crack a smile. Just made the food and that's it. We then asked the waitress if we could get saki bombs and she said 'can you wait I'm too busy'. Understandably we said 'it's ok whenever you get a chance'. Like we were bothering her! Then a waitress was walking by and dropped a glass right by us. The glass went RIGHT into my sisters shoes and we had to dump it out! Literally DUMP GLASS OUT of her shoes. I get that it was an accident but they showed no remorse or concern! Not even an 'oh my gosh I'm so sorry'. To top it alllll offf! And this is what made me write this review in the first place. My boyfriend left a 15% tip on our bill! WHICH IS REASONABLE considering the service that was given to us! The waitress literally RAN after my boyfriend and said 'why no more tip?' And my boyfriend said 'because the chef was horrible and we came here for an experience and we didn't get that' and she said 'well we split tip and it's not enough' WHAT?!? You got 15%! On a SHITTY service! You should be happy! My boyfriend rolled his eyes and left 5% more because he felt that THEY need it more than us! But I've NEVER been to a restaurant where the wait staff DEMANDS more of a tip. Here's a tip....why don't you tend to your customers and you will get the tip you DESERVE! Never in my life will I return To this shitbag of a place. DISGUSTING service and you should be ashamed with how you service your customers. I don't know if it's a culture barrier but you ALL need to learn some manners and CLASS, because Lord knows you need it. I recently moved to the area with my husband and we were looking for a great hibachi place. Mt. Fuji is that and so much more. I absolutely love both the staff and the food. The bar is especially great. I highly recommend stopping by to meet David the bartender who is truly a master of his craft. He offers a great variety of well-crafted cocktails that are as unique as they are delicious! Everyone that I have had is a definite hit and the following he has made truly proves how talent he is! If I could give zero stars, I would have!!! I had taken my daughter & her friends here for her birthday celebration. We were seated right away & the waitress came over & took our drink orders. When she came back with our drinks she then took our dinner order. She asked if anyone had any allergies so I proceeded to tell her that someone had a gluten allergy & that I had a citrus allergy. I thought I saw her write it down but apparently not. When the chef came out, he proceeded to cook all the food & after the shrimp was cooked he then squeezed lime all over the shrimp. I asked why he did that since I had told the waitress I was allergic to citrus. He tried showing me the paper & said it was not written on there. I told him I did tell her & that everyone at the table heard me tell her. He then kept showing me the paper saying she never wrote it. Why keep showing me? He never apologized & then went in the kitchen to tell the waitress what she did wrong. He came back out with more shrimp & chicken to cook for me but still never said a word to me & still no apology from the cook or the waitress!!! I have never been to a restaurant where if they made a mistake did they not apologize!!! I know mistakes happen but this was a crucial one!!! When the waitress brought my check over she told me the 18% gratuity was automatically added since I had more then 6 people!!! I will never step foot in this Restaurant again!!!! read more

The decor is nice and I heard great things about this location, but was disappointed. Service was slow for drinks. We went for hibachi and were seated with a family who had already eaten appetizers and finished their soups and salads. We were rushed into ordering as soon as we sat down. I had the vegetable hibachi and while it was good, I was not given any more vegetables than anyone else who ordered meat and seafood dishes- I had to order an additional side because I was still hungry.
