Mount Pleasant Grill is one of those hole in the wall nostalgic restaurants that you always want to find on a road trip. It has the charm of a mid century soda fountain but also absolutely fantastic food and service. The house burger and the chef salad were fantastic well portioned perfectly prepared. I really can't give these folks less than five stars! The food was surprisingly good, but what really stands out is the service! I stopped by the Mt. Pleasant Grille while visiting the area and was nothing less than floored by the service I received. The staff was extremely attentive and ended up giving me a discount on my bill because I had to wait 20 minutes to receive my food. Where I come from that's a jiffy! Oh my goodness what a hidden gem! We tried going to another place and found this by accident when the other one was closed. I had a delicious chicken Caesar salad and hubby had a burger. Cool diner! We come here for lunch when we are working in the area. The service is always great and everyone is always friendly. We usually start with the fried green tomatoes, as they are delicious and irresistible. I ordered the Monterey BBQ Chicken with seasonal vegetables on my latest visit. It was great and probably my new favorite dish here. You can't go wrong with anything you order here. Everything I've had here has been fantastic. If you are in Mount Pleasant you should really give this place a try. I haven't been to dinner here yet but it is definitely on my to do list. read more

I haven't been there for a bit; they changed staff snd such for awhile which did not go in their favor. I used to go there a lot until it seemed to fall apart. No real menu that you could count on. If you found a staple item you liked that was on the menu regularly, it was hard to even put the hours of operation to use. I never knew from week to week when they were open. Opened and closed on odd hours and different days. When weekends were regular and with live music and such I liked going regularly. Decor was great, like a step back in time. However after several failed attempts at being open, or recognizing something familiar on the menu I gave up. This town would be a great place for a restaurant with reliable hours and a menu you can count on. It'll make someone rich opening up and offering reliability. read more

Just had dinner there and it was delicious! Waitress was very nice and the food outstanding. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and was a great change from going into Columbia (or further north). I had the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever tasted! Husband had a huge club and daughter had the grilled cheese. Ice cream looked great, but only my daughter had any. We stopped here for lunch on a trip to North Alabama after landing in Nashville. We started with fried green tomatoes and fried pimento and cheese balls. The tomatoes were OK but we agreed that we would have skipped them but we liked the pimento and cheese. For lunch we had a chicken sandwich with onion rings and fried catfish with collard greens and mashed potatoes. The sandwich, catfish, mashed potatoes and collards were all good. The collards were especially good. We agreed they were some of the best we have had. We disagreed about the onion rings. Chris liked them but I thought they tasted funny. Overall it was a good lunch. Food did not come out correct / kitchen staff does not care. We have eaten at MPG MANY times. MPG has been struggling for some time now. Tonight was the worst by far. It took OVER an hour for the food to come out. On the order placed were 2 pimento cheese burgers, one medium and one well done no bacon, the night's special BAKED SPAGHETTI, and a catfish dinner. Just before it came out, we were told there were no gouda grits, they had run out...no big deal. Substitution was made. When the burgers arrived, one clearly was marked medium with a steak marker that said medium. After biting into both burgers, they were clearly marked wrong. Medium was well done and well done clearly medium.....didn't like it, but made do. When the "baked spaghetti" was delivered, it was ziti with a meat sauce poured on it and sprinkled with some parmesan. Clearly not baked nor spaghetti. When it was pointed out to our waitress, Liberty, she said we could order something else if we liked. We didn't order ziti but spaghetti. I don't care for ziti, so, we ordered another pimento burger. She said it would take about 8-12 minutes. She left but came back to the table and said they would have one out right away. When the "pimento" burger arrived in about 3 minutes it was clearly a barbecue burger with a mound grilled onions and bbq sauce on it. Two fried pimento balls accompanied it on the side. Clearly this was an attempt to shut someone up and quickly. Did the kitchen help not think we knew what a pimento burger was supposed to look like since we already had two on the table?? We asked for refills on the fruit tea only to be told they had run out of that too. My guess is, maybe Friday night was busier than expected and maybe the specials were a hit and the kitchen had just run out of things. But to serve items that are SIMILAR to what was ordered is unacceptable without informing the customer. We really felt sorry for Liberty because when we pointed it out to her and informed her that we would just eat the BBQ burger, she sighed and said that she had already been yelled at that when she pointed out that the other food didn't come out right. I've been told by friends that the management has changed several times recently. It's obvious that they need some kitchen structure and management. No manager ever came over and apologized or even acknowledged our presence. We may return to MPG, but only because of Liberty. This high school girl who had tears in her eyes was put into an awkward position by the kitchen staff. Liberty, thank you for trying so hard. Remember what we told you. I hope we made your night a little better with what we left with you. I hope the owners of MPG will find this constructive and an opportunity to improve . Remember that for every one customer who is willing to inform you of a problem, 26 will walk away, never tell you and never come back. The menu has always been limited but at least it was okay. We went tonight and it was terrible. The Mac and cheese tasted like box, they had no steak. I had the watermelon salad and it was terrible. It took forever to get the waitress. The pie was from a box, the ice cream was even terrible. There ice cream used to be homemade and it was delicious. All the staff looked unhappy. How did this place get such good ratings? Tonight was the first time I've ever been to this place and it was not a good experience. The food was overpriced for the amount we got. The service was slow and the portions were small. I like the building and that its so historical. From the moment we walked in the service was bad. I understand that there are Christmas parties going but when you're a restaurant, seating walk in customers keeps your place running. Ok so I tried this place again But I'm certain it will be the last time They updated their menus in the past few years they have prices on them now!! kudos for them That's the one star. And the only reason in my world that they get a star at all. We were seated she took our orders then we waited and waited and waited (there was very few people in the restaurant) a different lady brought us our food which was hot. My husbands drink glass was already empty by the time they brought the food we couldn't hail A waitress any waitress there only appeared to be the one . My husband ate his food with no drink And there were no condiments no ketchup no salt no pepper on any of the tables around us. My slaw was wilted cabbage should never be floppy . And was warm as well. It had way too much vinegar in it to . Our fries really needed salt And my chicken fingers were way too brown They had hard bits on the hand breading that was so hard it was like biting a rock. A lady I believe to be a manager stopped by our table and asked if everything was all right I told her no the one time I got The waitresses attention so I could bring these things Up with her She tried to flag another Lady from the kitchen to come to our table she ignored her just like she was ignoring us. The waitress and I use that word really loosely was too busy flirting with / talking to a man and his little boy maybe her husband and kid I don't know but still too busy with them at the bar to walk across the room to us . The whole time . Manager lady said she was sorry made excuses for the slaw. Never offered to replace it to see if it was better or cold . She offered. To refill my husbands drink he in turn told her no he was finished anyway . she Said she was sorry and complemented his shirt and she left.! Meanwhile another lady that had been in the restaurant with her mother and little girl came storming back in because they had charged her Credit card $90+ for a hamburger, a milkshake ,A tea , a coke and an order of chicken fingers. My daughter had plastic in her food, the hush puppies were so hard you could use them as golf balls, the wings were hard and crunchy and we we waited for refills for drinks while the waitress just stood at the counter. My Pleasant Grille was the one place we took out-of-town guests to experience great food with southern charm. Been some months since our last visit but we quickly discovered the menu and food quality has changed. Their signature onion rings, like no others, are not on the menu. Fried catfish was soggy and overly fishy smelling. Chicken tenders served up a good portion but were not so good and my Grille burger, one of my favorites, was saturated with sauce making it impossible to eat. Out of five orders and an appetizer, the fried green tomatoes were the only item worth ordering. Our waitress was excellent, but eliminating signature items from the menu and dropping the quality of items served no longer is an incentive for us to make the drive. Mt. Pleasant Grill, once a delightful culinary dining experience is now just another roadside diner not worth the stop. read more

Husband & I had dinner last night (Valentine's Day) and were so disappointed. Our waiter ignored us 95% of the time we were there. He walked past our table several times without a word of asking if we needed another drink, if our food was good, etc. He didn't bother to clear salad and appetizer plates when he finally came by our table. I managed to catch the manager when she was nearby, to ask for a wine refill. Restaurant was out of the grilled salmon, artichoke/spinach dip, and a particular draft beer my husband wanted. We both ordered the sirloin steak, medium rare. Mine came out well done and his medium-ish. After finally getting the correct steaks, we were again disappointed because they had NO flavor. We were in town visiting our daughter and son in law for their babyshower.They ask if we wanted to try this restaurant we agreed and my son in law sister and her husband and daughter joined us.1st,Took forever to have a waiterss come get our drink order then filled them set them on the bar and left they set their til almost watered down got a different waitress flagged down ask if we could get our drinks .2nd The food was not cooked like it was ordered steaks well done requested medium hush puppies were hard in center with no taste .Meat loaf came it had vegetables in it ain't never seen that. 3rd and the topper of this experience was my son in law s niece ordered a cheeseburger when she took a bite the cheese was still in the wrapped plastic instead of refire on burger they just took it bring it back with cold cheese .The other topper of this ordeal was the chef came out we told him about it and without breaking stride He Stated that it happens sometimes .Then they charged us $15 gratuity for 4 people and the other ticket also we complained and the manger stated you don't have to be rude .Never will go back and hope no one else does either shut them down. read more

Great restaurant! I didn't think anyone that moved into what used to be Lumpy's would live up to the standard, but I really enjoyed the new place. I had a panini with onion rings and fried green tomatoes for the appetizer- all of which were very good! And the service? Also good. The food came out very quickly and we never were missing anything. I have dined here twice in the past month, once on a Saturday afternoon and once for a Sunday brunch. Both the destination of a relative short distance motorcycle trip from Nashville. Both dining experiences were five star in food taste/quality, service and value. The cheeseburger I ordered on my first trip had a terrific flavor, was cooked perfectly and came with sweet potato fries that were a cut above any I have ever had. The brunch experience was based on a steak and eggs order. The scrambled eggs were fluffy, the steak was tender and cooked to order. My brother rode up from Alabama to meet us today on his new Indian Roadmaster. He enjoyed the pulled pork plate with sweet potato fries. We all agreed to meet here again for good food and good times this summer. Our experience with the food and the staff have been excellent and we will be back again soon. read more

I decided to try it today for lunch and was very disappointed. I had the barbecue pork sandwich which came with a side of cole slaw. The slaw came in a tiny container. It was strong on the vinegar side. Disappointed in the pork as it was tough and not near enough barbecue sauce.Fries I ordered extra were hard sticks. My husband surprised me by taking here for a Valentine's Dinner. We've eaten here several times before and love the food and the atmosphere. The Special Valentine's Meal was delicious. The crab cakes were great, the salad was dark green and fresh. The hot bread & homemade butter was great. I had halibut w/mashed potatoes, perfect, not dry. For dessert, my husband & I shared the creme brûlée & the homemade strawberry ice-cream cake . Okay. I am a dessert expert. The creme brûlée was bland and the homemade strawberry ice-cream cake was strawberry ice-creme in a store bought chocolate graham cracker shell. I was very disappointed with the dessert! Overall I would rate my dinner a "9" , and the dessert a "5". Our waitress was great! I would recommend Mt. Pleasant Grille, however everything else is home-made, the desserts need more work. The food was good and the restaurant was decorated nicely. My only issues overall were the lack of inventory and speed of service. I've been there a few times. One trip was quick and fantastic overall. Another time they had no sprite to drink, potatoes, or vanilla ice cream, and it took at least an hour (probably 1:30) to leave.
