I've been here many times. Southern comfort food at its finest. Hospitality is spot on. A must visit if you come to Lynchburg. Make reservations in advance

When in Lynchburg, getting a meal at Miss Mary Bobo goes hand in hand with the tour at the Jack Daniel's Distillery. They offer two serving times: 11am and 1pm. Although we missed the 11am seating by 10 minutes, they do offer a "take-out" option where you can still dine in a room with others for the full experience. I actually enjoyed this option more because we were able to share one full meal between the two of us for $23.95 instead of buffet-style at $29.95pp. Once we paid, we were led into the Jasper room where we shared a table with another group. It was fun chatting with strangers and hearing where they came from while enjoying a home cooked meal. The full meal included one of everything on the menu that day. We had a chicken pastry and fried pork chop for the meat of the day. (Sadly, they didn't have fried chicken that day as this changes daily). It's nothing too special and pork was a tad dry, but still decent. The sides of the day also consisted of fried okra, candied apples, broccoli rice casserole, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn salad, and two rolls. This was the perfect sampler of everything to share with the corn, okra, and casserole being my favorites. Finally, we had the most delicious and moist carrot cake to finish off. This was such a wonderful meal and dining experience. The host also came in and told us the history of Miss Mary Bobo and the students who work here. While the food isn't something I'm running back for, it's the value and experience of dining family style with strangers that is a real treat here. It's such a great way to experience that Southern charm and homecooking.

We had a fantastic lunch at Mary Bobo's today! We ate lunch in the Fanning Room. Such a cute, cozy space to eat in. Carole was our host and she was wonderful! Loved the history she shared with us and how the conversation flowed between her, my hubby and I, and the ladies from New Zealand we dined with. Had such a great lunch! The food was amazing!! Our table loved the fried chicken, pork with gravy, and the apples. Loved the apples with Jack Daniel's on our buttermilk pie. Great way to end our fantastic meal at Mary Bobo's.

Wow! Just wow! This was our first time at a family style dinner restaurant and we were so blessed to be there. We went to the Jack Daniel's distillery and were told by the bus driver we need to eat at Miss Mary Bobo's. They were all booked up when we initially went, but then we walked over after our tour and they had space since people had canceled. Everyone about this was perfect! We got to meet some really neat people who were local to the east side. The food: Mac n cheese to die for, okra crispy and crunchy, fried chicken was a bit salty but still so good, corn bread was another fave, even the meatloaf was good (I DO NOT like meatloaf). Can't say enough good things!

Miss Mary Bobo's is the kind of place where you leave with a full belly, a happy heart, and at least three new facts about Tennessee history. But first things first -- be on time. I saw some grumpy Yelp reviews saying they wouldn't feed latecomers... and yes, that's true. But they literally told me like three times during the reservation process: "Be on time." It's not just a courtesy -- it's a way of life down here. Now, onto the good stuff -- the food! The menu changes daily, which adds to the excitement (and prevents you from obsessively Googling what you're going to eat like I normally do). Everything was absolutely delicious. Southern comfort food that felt like it was made by a grandma who also happens to be a culinary wizard (not my grandma, but someone else's). We're talking melt-in-your-mouth fried chicken, mac & cheese that could solve world problems, and pie that had me rethinking my life choices. The communal dining was surprisingly fun -- we sat with a delightful docent who served as our meal's MC. She told us all about Miss Mary, the history of the building, and even answered our random questions with a smile and a sweet Southern drawl. Shout-out to the student waitstaff -- they're college students on scholarship, and honestly, they were more polite and attentive than most fine dining servers I've encountered. Bless them and their hustle. Would I come back? Absolutely. Would I show up on time? You better believe it. This is more than a meal -- it's a little slice of Tennessee hospitality served with hot buttered rolls and a story.

If you visit Lynchburg for the Jack Daniel's Distillery, you definitely should make a reservation for lunch (2 seatings at 11am & 1:30pm?) at Miss Mary Bono's restaurant. Amazing experience where we ate some of the best down home southern cooking (menu changes daily), met some really nice people who we shared a meal with, and had the most friendly Southern hospitality from our hosts! Our hosts had great stories about the history of Miss Mary Bobo and her boarding house (back in the day). Lunch is served family style (max seating is 12 plus our 2 hosts) and you never leave hungry! The fried chicken (so crispy on the outside and moist/juicy on the inside!) and fried okra were my favorites! Be sure to leave a tip for your servers (Miss Mary Bobo's restaurant funds scholarships for 10 local kids who works at the restaurant, to attend the local community college. Our servers were two very hard- working kids!)!

Their menu has sandwiches, pizza, and coffee drinks. I intended to eat lunch because I was hungry. It was around 1:30 in the afternoon on a Monday and there was absolutely no one in there. An employee came out from the back after a minute or two, but the eerily empty environment and somewhat odd smell in the space dissuaded me from actually ordering a meal. Instead, I wound up ordering a small iced white chocolate mocha to go. It was pricy for a small iced coffee -- over $6. The employee went to the back to fix it for me. It took a few minutes but nothing unreasonable. She brought it back out to me in a cup that looked like a hot latte cup, but it was fortunately made correctly and iced. Overall, it was...fine. Not super creamy, pretty thin and almost watery instead of milky consistency. Decent white chocolate flavor but not a ton of coffee flavor. For the price, I probably wouldn't get it again, but it was serviceable. I dunno, I feel like I'm maybe being a little unfair because of my overall poor experience in town, but given the one thing I tried was resoundingly average, I guess I stick by my 3 star rating. Hoping for a more successful venture the next time I return to town.

I stop everytime I head down south from Nashville, usually working in the side room for half the day so I can avoid rush hour in Nashville. From a beer standpoint, this is one of the top breweries in Tennessee. They are well known nationally, as well. The building is a warehouse looking structure on the outside, but they have nicely decorated the tap room. Ample seating both inside and out and they have bands on some weekends. I have tried the flatbreads, a couple of sandwiches, and the Dinosaur wings (only kidding, but they are the largest chicken wings they can buy, so ample sized). I prefer the wings most of the time - except their rendition of Nashville Hot - but this time opted for a meatball sandwich. If you are trying to be an Italian food afficianado, this might not be in, but the sauce works well with these meatballs and there is ample cheese. As one normally focusing on Keto, adding a fork meant I could eat the kibbles and bits and leave the bun. Two thumbs up. As for the beer, they have some of the best IPAs and I finally tried the porter this go around. Many of their beers are rated above 4.0 on untappd and it is not just a local bump kind of thing. The brewery, as a whole, is 3.92 and also well deserved. To my normal "Will I be back" question, I think the answer is already clear. I do return almost every time I pass by.

Don't get me wrong, it's still down home fried catfish. And they have some of the best hush puppies you can find. But the quality of the fish, the declining service, and the uneven cooking is concerning. First off, you will have to wait to be seated. That is a given no matter what time you go. They are simply that popular. I expect that and have no problem with waiting. But don't seat my party and make us wait another 10-15 minutes to be acknowledged by the server. There is clearly not enough staff to handle the tables they have. I'd rather sit out front talking with friends and family than be sitting at a table being ignored. Once our server came and took our food and drink orders (she was really nice but obviously overwhelmed), she came back with all of the beverages but one iced tea. When we flagged her down, she apologized and said she'd be right back with it. She didn't return until our food was served. She apologized again about the missing tea and finally got it. The hush puppies were outstanding as always. But the fried catfish had an off taste. And she forgot one of the side dishes on three of our plates. I'm not sure if that was her fault or the kitchen but that doesn't make it right. My baked potato was not cooked through (yes, I had the baked potato instead of the standard fries, an odd choice I admit). The white beans were tasty but on the verge of mush, nothing like the saucy beans I'd had here previously. And our drinks sat empty for long periods of time before anyone noticed. This place is a hidden gem, out in the middle of nowhere, and people drive quite a distance to come here. It's a shame that the food and service seem to be declining because I always enjoy coming here....until this trip.

Though I miss seeing the sign for its humorously named predecessor (the "beer, baloney, and more" store), Hensley's is an upgrade in terms of food! In addition to standard gas station snacks, Hensley's cooks up burgers and chicken sandwiches as well as a southern plate lunch each day. They also have a small salad bar. Desserts include fried pies; I thought I saw a sign for ice cream too though I never spied a machine. The place is hoppin with locals and it's clear word has spread. There's not a lot of super convenient options in the area but even still, we enjoyed our meal. My coworker had visited before on an earlier trip I didn't attend and she enjoyed their Philly cheesesteak. This time, she got a chicken bacon ranch wrap and onion rings. I ordered a hamburger with bacon and French fries. Their soda machine wasn't functional when we visited but we were able to get drinks from the convenience store side. Diet Coke only though, no Coke Zero and no Pepsi products whatsoever. /: Our food took a few minutes to come out but they were busy and it was clearly fresh. The burger came on a simple but soft bun. It had pretty good flavor, though I will say it was a touch dry in parts. Fries had a slightly frozen-ish texture and might've benefited from a touch more salt but they were hot and plentiful. The bacon on my burger was cooked very well and was nice and crispy. My coworker enjoyed her onion rings and said the CBR wrap was her favorite thing she'd tried so far. The menu covers a good many American classics and the plate lunch specials seem to change often and were quite popular on my visit. You pay at the counter with your ticket when you check out. I think the prices are fair. Service was nice and helpful. Overall, this is a solid stop for some fresh grub in an area that was previously mostly bereft of options. Give them a try if you're passing through.
