The beginning of the fur garden
Gemma B.

Two star rating because we've had decent experiences in the past.otherwise it would be a one. Today myself and my roommate brought our dogs in as we do every few months. When we walked in the place reeked of cigarettes and there was about 3x the amount of people and animals there than I have experienced in the past times that we've brought our dogs in. If you can imagine a small space with three times the amount of both human and animal bodies moving around, it was a lot more chaotic today. We were greeted by a friendly staff member and were quoted a time and a price. The price was the same as I remembered. It has in the past taken the groomer about an hour and a half for both of our dogs but today the quote was at three and a half. Very strange. A man that I had never seen before asked if our dogs would be okay in a cage together and I told him absolutely not. Why on earth would you put two dogs together in a cage around an already strange place filled with a lot of stressful noise and people and animals they don't know. Weird question given that we had an appointment setup and I had never been asked this before here. All in all very strange and unsettling but we had, had good experiences, what's the worst that could happen at our friendly neighborhood dog groomers that we trusted. We ran a few errands and I called at the halfway mark to check in and make sure I had the right time for pickup and make sure everything was going okay so far. About 2 hours and 15 minutes after we had dropped off the dogs I get a pickup call where the woman on the other end informs me that they are charging us 30$ more per dog after the services had already been completed, 140$ to 200$ total. I asked what the reasoning of this was and they said that our dogs had been pooping and peeing everywhere, that it took two people to groom our dogs and that our dogs were difficult. I can imagine that our dogs were difficult in that environment, it struck me as odd that they were pooping and peeing inside which is something that they don't do as fully potty trained dogs. That all aside, they said that we hadn't been there in some months and the prices had increased, living in Portland, that's fair and understandable. I asked if I could see a price list of the changes so I knew what I was paying extra for because this would have required us running to the bank again due to this being a cash only establishment which I explained on the phone. The person I was talking to had no idea what I was talking about and got flustered and frustrated with me and handed me to the owner of the place. A man's voice came on, on the phone and I asked again, can I see a price list because I'm not sure why I'm receiving an up charge for the reasons listed above when we've never had this issue here. A side note, the groomer that I usually work with, generally the only woman that has been there when the dogs have come in, has only ever had nice things to say about our dogs and to me when I've picked them up. The man on the phone proceeded to get annoyed with my request and said I could have it at that price as long as I agreed to never come back. Interesting because I wasn't demanding not to have the price changed, just a clear reasoning of why it did and why I was being informed last minute of the changes when there was ample opportunity to let us know before the time to get our dogs. Weird business model but alright. If you want to lose loyal customers over perfectly valid questions that's your own business or maybe soon failed business in my mind. So we go back to get our dogs, it's obviously incredibly awkward, there's still way too many dogs in the space, way too many people. Our dogs were brought to us , I put the money on the counter as I see the owner quickly walk over to count it as we walk out. Our dogs look exhausted and upset from the experience (never seen this before from them). They also are shedding like crazy and need a 30min brushing once we get home to get out all the lose fur. There's still mats behind the ears of one our dogs and the other his black mail was cut too short. All in all, a shitty experience for us and our dogs. Thank you to the owner gave us a nice way to bow out gracefully from supporting him because he doesn't seem like a nice guy and it seems like when he's around he tries to cram as many animals and people in that tiny building and then demands more money blaming the animals for being difficult as opposed to looking at the environment he's creating for both his employees and the animals he's caring for. To the girl with the dark hair, thanks for treating our dogs in a respectful manner for the past two years. We will miss you a ton, you were always very kind and did an amazing job.

I highly recommend this groomer! My husband and I recently move to Portland from California. We have a two-year-old Shih Tzu and had a very hard time trying to find a proper groomer for him here. The last two groomers that we tried really butchered him and basically shaved him down to nothing making him look like a wet rat. I tried Mt. Scott Grooming today with my little boy mochi, and they did a fabulous job! He looks so good and cute and has a proper haircut that he should for a Shih Tzu. We will only be going back to Mount Scott groomers from here on out and they also offer a free grooming on every seventh appointment! They are fabulous! Thank you to the entire team who took care of my little Mochi today and we Will see you back in 6-8 weeks!

Second time we took our dogs here. Very welcoming and treated our fur babies so well.

Steve, the owner, groomed my 7mo old Persian kitten today. It was Haku's first time being professionally groomed. Steve was great with him & Haku was so white & fluffy when he was done! I was very pleased and will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

Louie. Poor lighting but he is looking fresh

My new go-to groomer. Having owned Persians for many years- I feel like I know a thing or two. My cat, even though he has become quite fickle with his age, always comes back beautiful. I am elated to have found my Louie an amazing, skilled and speedy groomer.

They are good groomers, and my dog doesn't object to going for it. Very happy with the price and outcome!

Very nice and flexible. Our dogs looked great! They even handled our sassy dog who isn't great with strangers. We will definitely be back.

they are so incredibly soft, and they didn't seem to be bothered at all by their first grooming experience.

We used Tails and Trails 3 times with mixed results. Important to know- you create detailed notes with the owner (Jeff) on how to access your building, routines, where leashes are, etc., etc., when you have your introductory visit. Our instructions ask that the handler only feeds the cats their canned food, nothing else. 1st time, week-long trip (June 2024)- handlers were 2+ hours late regularly. While this wasn't the biggest issue, we don't have a doggie door and that level of lateness pushed the pup's bathroom breaks longer than we're comfortable. But, we liked the service offered and adjusted how often we scheduled handler visits for the second and third visits. 2nd time, 1 week of walks while both of us were gone for longer than 8 hours (September 2024)- Great! Annie (I'm not disclosing employees' full names for their privacy) had no problems and was very helpful. 3rd time, overnight away- 4 visits requested: Sat afternoon and evening; Sun am and afternoon (October 2024)- Day 1- We left the house at 8 am and scheduled feeding/walk visits for about 1:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Around 1:25 pm, Chloe (office manager) texted me to ask if we had scheduled for 7:00 am that day. When we said we hadn't, a communication between Chloe and a handler led to the 1:00 pm visit being skipped. We talked with Chloe that evening and she said the handler would roll the afternoon and evening visits together, apologized for the miscommunication between herself and the handler, and credited our account for the mistake (all great). The handler arrived around 7:00 pm. They had a difficult time accessing the building so Chloe texted us to say the handler would hang out for a little longer before leaving if they couldn't get access. Once they did get into the building, they couldn't find the food or leash. The access information, food instructions, and where the leashes are were all in the instructions. The handler fed the pets and took the pup for a 15-min potty break. Since we were only gone for a night, we didn't book anyone to stay overnight. We considered cutting the trip short and wish we had. Day 2- Oscar was our handler. We got notifications that both visits were completed and everything seemed to have gone smoothly. When we got home, a glass jar with cat treats had been taken from the closed closet and left open on the counter. When we got home, there were treats all over the counter and SHATTERED GLASS MIXED WITH TREATS all over the floor. All three cats had engorged stomachs. While Chloe apologized and said she'd speak with Oscar the next day, we didn't hear back from Tails and Trails' manager or owner. We'll be anxiously monitoring our furbabies for a few more days.
