very little help from them for payment. I am not authorized on my wife's account, however, I make all the and my card is on auto pay. Auto pay fails every month and they turn off our Internet. My wife calls to try to fix it and it happens again the following month. They are a mess and absolutely not helpful. Been with MTA since the dialup days until recently. Couldn't upgrade to the faster internet plans since when they installed phone service to our house in 1990, they only used one copper wire and not twisted pair copper connection. MTA tech says you can't get faster internet unless they dig out the road from the "node" just across the street to our home and install the twisted pair copper wire. New copper wire DSL connection installation by MTA never happened. FIBER connection offered in Eaglewood neighborhood? Nope, not for years from now. So much for their celebrated May 2020 connection to the Lower 48 with ALCan ONE fiber project trickling down to their existing customers. Adios MTA, went to GCI and never looked back. read more

I'm somewhat floored by the negative reviews. We built a home in 2017 and had transferred our previous service from another provider... he who shall not be named... and within a month or so, we went into the Eagle River MTA to get info and switching. We quickly decided it was the route we wanted to go and everything transitioned with ease; at least with MTA it did. Since then, we have called for a few things; setting up a new router and I forgot my login, service being down (a truck literally snagged the overhead lines and broke them) and most recently upping our plan. They've even gone so far as to contact me when they were changing something within their service to have me login and correct some information in my profile. When we wanted to upgrade our service, there was an error online and we received a call Monday morning asking how they could help! To me, that's fabulous customer service!! We are not disappointed in the slightest and so grateful that we got away from the previous company!! Yaay! read more

We live in the Willow area, and our internet speed has always been EXTREMELY slow. Then, out of the blue last year, our MTA bill went up from $80 per month to $140 the following month. This was unexpected and NOTHING about our quality of service changed.. Then, we get to read and hear on TV about all of the great upgrades of service in Wasilla and other communities that MTA was making. WE HAVE BEEN WITH MTA FOR DECADES, JUST WAITING FOR PROMISED UPGRADES THAT NEVER HAPPENED, like getting the fiber optics cable run up Hatcher Pass so that the people up here can start to enjoy the same high speed internet THAT OTHER CUSTOMERS IN THOSE OTHER COMMUNITIES RECEIVE FOR THAT SAME PRICE OF $140 PER MONTH! We are paying a charge of almost double what it was the previous year, just so that people in OTHER COMMUNITIES, LIKE WASILLA, HOUSTON, TALKEETNA, ETC. CAN GET THEIR UPGRADES - THAT WE HELP PAY FOR! This is absolutely the most unfair practice that we have ever seen, and it is aggravating to know that MTA has never answered the call of many community members up here for upgraded service. Instead, they increase OUR monthly bill so that OTHERS in the more populated areas of the Mat-Su, can enjoy constantly upgraded newer and better services. THIS HAS BEEN A BIG SLAP IN THE FACE TO THOSE OF US WHO HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YEARS FOR MTA TO STEP UP AND PROVIDE THE SERVICES THAT WE ARE PAYING A PREMIUM FOR, BUT HAVE NEVER RECEIVE. But hey - I'm sure that those other people in those other communities mentioned above appreciate us helping them out by paying some of their upgrade costs. Why or how MTA is allowed to get by with this practice of "robbing Peter to pay Paul" (so to speak) is beyond me, but it's getting really old. SMH The only reason I gave 2 stars is because when we have a problem (generally in the winter months), the responding crews work hard trying to run down the problem. I moved in to a new home recently... one that is only served by MTA. I'm forced to use them. They're terrible... higher prices for lower speeds than GCI, an incredibly laborious online account setup, "past-due" email notifications that direct one to "call immediately..." so you can sit on hold only to have them explain that "we're sorry, we accidentally sent past due notices to a lot of people who aren't past due. Our goof!" What?!!!! Do yourself a favor, go with GCI if at all possible. read more

They have horrible customer service. Every time I call to pay my bill doesn't matter time I call I always get the normal we are expecting higher than normal call volumes and I end up on hold for almost an hour. It doesn't matter if I call them right when they open or late at night same recording and an hour of waiting. They keep pushing the whole pay online but the website won't let me without getting my account number and the only way you get the account number if to talk to someone and wait another 1 hour of your life. It should be illegal to charge a flat rate for a service that is never consistent. Internet randomly dropping out, or just dropping too unusable speeds. using this garbage for anymore than watching tv or using the web is hell. Even if you get the most expensive package expect to see no difference. If you have job that requires internet get a good phone plan and expect to be using hotspot a lot.The only reason anyone uses MTA is because they are the only choice in a lot of areas. SAVE YOURSELF and get anyone but MTA if you have the choice. read more

Poor customer service. I've never been with an internet provider that can't set up internet access day-of, and didn't have a clear reason as to why. Tech support personnel were nice but lacking in knowledge, and nobody at MTA seems to know if my modem internet light is on or not? I am a current user of MTA. Not by choice. I live in an area GCI does not offer internet, so I use MTA. I have only used their internet. It is terrible. I rarely get the download speed I am paying for and I need to reset my modem regularly. This is not how it should be. Their tech support is very nice. It is unfortunate I know this so well. (Because I shouldn't need to call tech support so often). Their customer service however is total garbage. My internet installation was delayed MONTHS due to an employee forgetting to schedule correctly, and then the delay was blamed on me personally. This WAS fixed. But it was very annoying. If you can find my home, my WiFi network is called "Bad Internet", and the password is Mtasucks. I encourage you to try it for yourself. You will be disappointed. read more

This is in response to my significant other's experience, who doesn't do Yelp, but I felt obligated, since I was so stunned by the lousy service compared to mine, with another carrier. Shop around before you Go to MTA for cellular service with a smartphone! Their data plan is inept outside of Ak being only limited to 1G (subcontract with Vz) after that the overage is a whopping 1.50 per mb! You could easily end up with hundreds of dollars in overages if you use your phone for anything but voice. When I travel I use many data hungry Internet features, such as the map and gps, YELP of course, and many others that require data, not to mention SIRI, and forget PANDORA, (finding wifi is inconvenient or limited, when traveling). I also use email and Social sites much more. Within Ak the data transfer rates seem to be inferior, other carriers. Switching from a dumb phone to a iPhone, also resulted in much poorer cell reception at home, think twice! They actually told her to KEEP her old dumb phone because they KNEW it worked better than the iPHONE! KEEP SHOPPING!! read more

We've been using phone and internet services for our offices for a long, long time. We are up a majority of the time with few small hiccups here and there. All of our office lines are set up with MTA, and call quality is great. Internet speed leaves a little to be desired, as well as a need for unlimited data plans. Their mobile services just expanded to the iPhone 4/S. An easy to use phone with lots of features and apps. A couple months ago, we had an instance of our email outgoing server with MTA (or their contracted provider) get blacklisted, and it was resolved within a day thanks to the internet technical support staff they had. read more

These people have not called or send a notices about them shutting off my auto pay for 7 months!!!!! They let me cancel services with the old house start new services at my new house and did not say a single thing that they have not been taking the payment. The said " well because of COVID we do not send out collection notices but we just shut your internet off" So apprently I have not paid an internet bill since February and I am 1000 over due. They sent one email in regards to this collections effort as of last week. I said how is that possible to let this happen. And she said it's yours responsibility to check not ours even if you are on auto pay it's still your job. I kept saying that I have not received a bill or anything so I assumed my internet was fine. And because MTA collection efforts because of COVID you expect to hold out your hand when your ready for payment after 7 months of no notification and a cut off internet service? I was promised faster internet then the competitors. They did not provide this faster service. My google router was also not working with MTA. It worked fine with the competitors. I tried to get a refund on the servise and they refused to make any adjustments. The manager was very rude not helping the situation. I do not recommend MTA read more

Can't speak to their mobile phone service but their home and internet service is beyond pathetic! SLOW internet unless you pay twice as much as any other provider. They WILL NOT provide router access for some reason but if someone wants to do something with THEIR OWN NETWORK they shouldn't have to jump through hoops JUST to get a simple thing done. Dont bother! Customer service is beyond horrible. I had the middle range internet plan. About 2months after having it my service was not working. I called customer service to see if there was an outage. They proceeded to tell me that my service had been turned off because I hadnt paid my bill. I informed them I had yet to receive any bills in the mail of any kind, after a little bit of digging they realized they had been sending bills to the incorrect address (how that happens I have no idea since that sent someone to my house to install my internet in the first place) they then told me that even though this was their error that I would have to pay to get my service reactivated! I told them that was out of the question since I was not intentionally not paying my bill, so after quiet some time arguing with them over the phone they told me that they would credit my account for the activation fee but they would never reinstate it without me paying again. They were beyond rude and unprofessional on the phone. I canceled shortly after once I found a better internet service. read more

I have been fighting over two years now simply to have my ex fiancé's name removed from an account providing internet service to MY HOME simply transferred to my name. I have been paying the bill for this account for years now and can prove this with bank statements as I am the ACTUAL CUSTOMER not my ex. You can imagine how it might be difficult not having any authority over a service being provided to your own home...(MTA is the only provider in my area otherwise I would just have the service transferred over to GCI a wonderful company with excellent values) I have a home business where I do photography nothing important. Should I sell my house and move somewhere else where I can live peacefully and just have Internet service provided in my name? The amount of times that I have had a negative interaction with MTA for almost no logical reason has legitimately given me a form of PTSD I cannot understand. How I can company can continue to be so dysfunctional and let me down on almost every single occasion? I have had almost zero issues and zero contact with almost every single other service that is being provided to me? I feel as if even just ONE time I was reached out to as a customer first for an apology or explanation or simply to try to help me in my situation and frustration or to just communicate wholly and efficiently with other members and teammates in your work environment to try and do your actual jobs and solve customer problems and complaints . I have been rendered almost in capable of having a decent and human conversation anymore due to my levels of frustration exceeding anything humanly necessary. Every single month multiple times my account was shut off with no warning no phone call no explanation as to anything "my" bill having been paid in the full and every single month I have to legitimately chase someone down as a customer to resolve and issue I never created. I have had to fight, endlessly fight, for this, this is SO unnecessary it has taken me MONTHS and the service still is not in my name they actually misspelled my name after finally getting somewhere. They then denied me access to my own account because my name was spelled wrong... I spent almost an hour on the phone with a representative and then at the end of the conversation I wanted to double check and see if the issue that was entire reason for me having called in the first place was resolved (the fact that they had actually double billed me over $400 and then still shut off my account) it wasn't, and the representative said "OH OOPS" I have had ongoing issues with them phone calls back and fourth gone into the building countless times talking with a different person each time who told me something different every time multiple conversations to my ex Who was starting to get irritated with me for the amount of times I was contacting him about the MTA situation and the amount of times he was forced to go into the building when he lives hundreds of miles away. Once my name was finally spelled proper they couldn't manage to update my online information and I wasn't able to log on online and pay my bill, and at the end of the day I still get mail and bills in his name...I have no idea what issue I will come across next month read more

Wish I could give them ZERO stars. We have no choice for internet...and apparently they know this. I tried to upgrade my current speed (2M) to the $50/month 10M Rolling Gig plan (give them more money), but they don't offer this speed where I live (fastest is 5M). So, I opted to upgrade to 5M plan- it should be $50, right? I was willing to pay the same price as the 10M customers for HALF the speed, but this is not an option. Say what?? You won't take more money from me for half the speed? Instead, the 5M upgrade is under the "old" pricing (not rolling gigs) and is $70/month. Ummm...I'm not that smart, but you want me to pay $70 for half the speed that other customers are getting at $50 a month? I had a horrible customer service experience as well. I drove 45 min into Wasilla to make the changes in person and was lied to by one of the their agents. I didn't find out that I couldn't get the 5M for $50/month until I got home and realized they never upgraded my speed, but they didn't have any problem taking extra money from me for a data upgrade that I didn't ask for (or need). I am cancelling MTA and running off an LTE hotspot. I'll take the better speed and deal with the cell network inconsistency rather than give these crooks another dime. read more

MTA is hands down the single worst company I have ever done business with. Their services are terrible and completely unreliable. I have fought with them numerous times to get my service working properly. I pay 4 times more for service with MTA than I did with any other service provider in the lower 48 states. It's very unfortunate for me that MTA is the only service available where I live. I would leave their crappy service so quickly. For years I have dealt with problematic internet. I've attempted to get their TV service three different times and have cancelled it just weeks later every time. And nobody ever seems to know why I'm having problems. It's like nobody is actually trained in telecommunications. They just hire random people and tell them to talk. With no knowledge of what they're doing... Normally I wouldn't write a bad review about a company. I take other complaints I read with a grain of salt. But that's because I know that all companies, no matter how great, get complaints and unsatisfied customers. But most of those companies actually care about the complaints and the satisfaction of their customers. Most companies will take steps to correct problems. I can't even get MTA to credit me back money I pay for the intermittent service they give me. I could write a chapter book of complaints I've had with MTA. I strongly suggest considering ANY other company than MTA. Unless it is absolutely your only option. Biggest rip off ever! Need an example? How about paying $160/month for 1-3mbps internet. That's just the price of my internet. I'm supposed to be guaranteed 10mbps. So I get a third of what I pay for but they're sure to collect the full bill each month. And each time I've added TV service I can forget using Hulu, Netflix or anything else that streams video online. MTA's TV service is so crappy it screws up my whole internet. I can't even buffer video without sitting and waiting ridiculous amounts of time. Why pay so much money for such crappy service? I can't wait for Verizon Fios! I would not recommend this company for internet unless it it the last resort in which case it is for me. They can only offer 15 Mbps download which is awful. The price they charge for 15 Mbps download is insane and should be reduced. read more

They are literally stealing thieves and they have zero customer service! Horrible, don't get internet service with them, they will lie to you and charge you whatever they feel like, because they can. We have several disabled people in our family and they claim they have a disability discount on internet and that they don't get to decide what the discount is because it's federally mandated. Bogus horse wash! There's apparently no federal government program and they are not backing it! We had service for eight months and paid before our bill was due every month and wham, without warning they give us a voicemail that even though we pre paid service through December 2018, we need to pay an additional $45 per month now and go on unlimited gb internet service to get the discount. We called and the manager, whom is a liar, asked me if I plan on continuing service with them because it's not his fault the government made us change to $45 more a month plans. When I replied absolutely not, his answer was then, I am sorry I am not inclined to help you then since you are going to disconnect service! Really!?! Wow that is wonderful management practice! We brought our equipment in two weeks before the service we already paid for expired and they refused to give me my two weeks credit! Then, on top of it they claim I owe them for those last two weeks and they will report me to collections if I don't pay it! So guess what?!? I paid in the most inconvenient way possible... pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, several small checks and made them count it. We got ripped off for $60 total and on top of that time spent on the phone and in person because the employees at the Wasilla location are completely unprofessional and refused to give me their name!
