While being "interviewed" by MTN, she spoke for almost two (2) hours about how great she is! A total turnoff! At the end of my complementary consultation, she became indifferent when I did not immediately decide to hire her for services. It turns out if you're a decent guy looking for compatible woman, you do not have to pay a matchmaker! I was told by MTN that they are four women for every man that she interviewed! Furthermore, after I told her who my ideal Match would look like and be like, she told me she deals with women that DO NOT meet my minimum standards and tried to sign me up anyway! Fraudulent is the only word I can use to describe my experience with this company. After paying thousands of dollars for matchmaking services that were never properly delivered, I ultimately had to take MTN Matchmaking to court to recover part of my money. The professionalism and communication completely disappeared the moment payment was made. My experience with MTN Matchmaking and Maureen was extremely disappointing from start to finish. Before payment, communication was constant and attentive. Maureen came across as charming, knowledgeable, and highly invested in helping me find a match. However, once payment was made, the level of communication and professionalism changed dramatically. After paying thousands of dollars, responses became inconsistent, difficult to obtain, or nonexistent altogether. Over the course of four months, I never went on a single date despite responding to every match I received. I was repeatedly told my responses had not been received or that matches simply "didn't respond," even though I consistently replied through multiple channels. At one point, I was even told MTN had "never heard from me" regarding any matches, which made absolutely no sense considering I had paid thousands of dollars for the service and had repeatedly followed up. Attempts to contact MTN by phone often went unanswered. Voicemails and texts were ignored for long stretches of time, and when I attempted to address concerns about communication, nothing improved. The entire experience felt disorganized, evasive, and highly unprofessional. The matches themselves also raised concerns for me. Several did not align with the preferences I clearly communicated, including men significantly older than what I requested. Some profiles appeared questionable to the point where I personally wondered whether they were even legitimate. The photos looked outdated and the descriptions often felt generic or impersonal. I also repeatedly asked to see my own matchmaking profile and was never provided with it, leaving me questioning whether one even existed. Another issue that deeply bothered me was discovering that my photo appeared altered and used on social media in a way that presented me as a "happy customer," despite my ongoing inability to even get responses regarding matches. It felt far more focused on optics and marketing than actual client experience. Instead of accountability, there always seemed to be another excuse for the lack of communication or follow-through. Once payment was secured, I no longer felt treated like a valued client. I felt ignored, brushed aside, and treated like an inconvenience despite having paid a substantial amount of money for a service that, in my personal experience, did not deliver what was promised. I joined MTM in April 2020, despite periodic calls, "We're working on your matches" and emails, they have never come up with even ONE match. I requested a refund but they did not respond to that email. I have been patient and polite and believe they owe me a refund. I guess I should file with the BBB. My five employees know that they are only allowed to set up appointments with singles that have already passed the screening process, already know that we are the only real certified matchmaking service on Long Island and they are ready to raise the bar from Internet dating sites where there is no screening process and no professional compatibility Analysis like we have! I take five appointments that should already have been qualified over the phone seven days a week, along with everything else I do to run my business. I run a very tight ship and do not have any time at all to waste. Had you told the girl over the phone "just so you know I am not going to do this program today" she would never have made your appointment. I have never been one to write reviews, positive or negative, but my experience at MTN has persuaded me to create this account and do so. Perhaps to save others from this scam. What seems to be consistent at MTN 'Matchmaking'; One pays an exorbitant amount of money (often thousands if you choose), to be treated very well for the first 72 hours ('coincidentally' the time it takes for your contract to become binding), and then once Maureen has your money... first off she starts ignoring your calls and emails, and the nitty-gritty of this is, she sends you matches who she has told you have all these great qualities that you're looking for, and are either COMPLETELY not what was described (I'm not referencing petty differences here), or my suspicion is they may not even EXIST. Next, I've been a client for over 2 years and I find it very hard to believe that of her "1,750" active clients I have not had one single date. I went to Maureen because she is supposed to be able to MATCH people, and clearly she has been unable to do her job as a matchmaker. NEXT, Maureen advertises as the 'nice matchmaker', but I can tell you that when I was finally able to catch her in the office, she is abrasive and condescending. Get THIS: I happened to have seen her at a social event for professionals and she was at the bar, a piss-drunk sloppy mess, making out with someone! STOP. I was EMBARRASSED for her. NOT TO MENTION at one point earlier in the evening, I went up to say hello to her and she didn't even know who I was. When I saw her 'oh so professional' behavior at the bar, I realized what this was really all about and I have obviously not renewed with her as CLEARLY it is not worth it. One thing is for sure: All matchmakers are not created equal. Maureen is a cut above the rest! She really cares about her clients and has been successfully running her business for almost two decades. What I like about Maureen is that she has really focused most of her business in the Long Island and NYC area--really building her connections there--instead of spreading herself too thin trying to match people up all over the country. She is well-connected and thus able to serve her clients. Maureen Tara Nelson is a fraud! You will be disappointed, especially if you are an attractive, intelligent & fun single. Why? First off, chances are the matches that you receive will not be what you are looking for. For example, let's say that you told Maureen that you don't want a match with children, several of your matches will have children. You'll call & remind her staff that this is a deal breaker for you & you will be asked to reconsider, because this limits the pool of choices. This will go on for several matches, so several months of your contract will be used up. Then, let's say, you receive a match that you express interest in, please expect to be told that your match is pursuing someone else at this time or that your match has decided to go on hold. This is after her service matched you with this person. That's several more matches and several more months on your contract will have run. Also, if you express interest in a match, don't be surprised if you are told that the match hasn't responded yet on a couple of occasions in the hopes that you won't follow up again during the month. I was once told that my match only used U.S. mail to receive and respond to matches. Again, several more months of your contract will be used up. Of course, there will be a couple of matches that aren't interested in you as you will have expressed disinterest in a few, especially the ones with dealbreakers that you already told Maureen about. And during the entire time, you'll be getting e-mails advising you to be open, it only takes one match, the do's and don'ts on a date, suggestions to update your photos, etc. And you will ask yourself that this is what your money was spent on. Maureen may have a party & if she has more than one party, you'll see a really good looking man & a hot girl there who are either her friends or "paid extras" to make it look like she attracts beautiful people to her service. You may meet some same sex-friend at one of her parties as you are venting about the service. Hey if you're lucky, maybe you will go out on one date. But even if you're picky, you will have a better chance of going out on a date and meeting someone with similar interests by going on an online dating website for far less money that joining MTN. Honestly, I don't believe that Maureen has as large of an active database as she claims of young, single professionals. I truly believe she sent me matches who were no longer participating in her service. And I wouldn't me surprised if she sent out my information after my contract expired just to tell someone your match had a change in circumstances. She doesn't truly care after she collects your payment. You are just another dollar sign in her bank account. Again, don't be fooled. 11am this woman is full of garbage. she has no clientele to match people up with....probably because she loses them all to her hijinks and scamming vulnerable people out of money. that's why she wants all the cash up front. every time she sent me someone, i would get matches that DID NOT fit ANY of my criteria. she'd give me different race, shorter than i wanted, etc, and NOT what i was looking for, which is just the opposite of what she told me when she reeled me in. i paid a portion of the "contract" fee at first (600 of the astronomical amount she was charging me) actually exactly for this very reason. when she kept asking me for more payments, I finally confronted her about the lack of matches and my dissatisfaction. she continued arguing with me and ultimately said to come in to the office to go over my profile. i said okay but i never bothered to go back due to my disgust. i didn't want to hear anymore of her BS quite frankly. she also never called me back to set up an appt either...so i guess she was happy with my 600 bucks that she got for nothing. i should have gotten my money back from her but i didn't, and she's lucky i didn't file a lawsuit against her either. DO NOT GIVE HER YOUR MONEY. i agree with everything the girl said on ripoffreport.com and flynn f. here on yelp. same thing happened to me...as well as the ONE GUY i did speak with from this so-called award-winning matchmaker. never met him but he did tell me that he had the same experience with her and he's heard the same stories about other people's experience with maureen and her taking their money and never getting matched up with anyone in their criteria or anyone they would ever date, AND her assuring them that she "has someone perfect for you, but he's matched with someone else right now." so why would she even say that if he's matched with someone else!?!?!? so as soon as he told me that, that's when i decided to confront her and stop giving her any more of my money. the arguing ensued and i was done. she's lucky i didn't go to my lawyer. and even though it's been awhile since my awful experience with her, i couldn't stand to see her prey on anyone else who is really serious about finding a mate. it's disgusting that she takes advantage of people who believe she will help them with something they are genuinely having so much trouble finding...love. she has all these "awards" and certificates hanging in her office and supposed interviews on tv and segments on youtube, but if they are even real, it says nothing about her actual results and actual matching. i absolutely agree with flynn about the fake setup and matches. i think she has zero clientele worthy of even one date. it's all just a ploy to keep you paying. ZERO of the men she sent me...which were few and far between, i might add, and not one a week as promised...were anywhere close to what was on my list of requirements. and the fact that she actually went on the website ripoffreport.com to rebut what the young woman reveiwed about her just shows her lack of professionalism and character. i see reviews, whether good, bad or indifferent, all the time, and i have never seen the owner of the business or establishment actually go on the site and tell their side about an unsatisfied client. to me it just shows her guilt and that there is truth to what people are saying. this was the worst experience of matchmaking and she really should be ashamed of herself. i haven't gone to another one since then because i think it's a big scam and i wouldn't give her one penny to find me a match. i'd rather go back to the bar/club scene. i guess i was lucky i lost a portion of the money so many others lost. but if you're looking for a match, go elsewhere. (CHECK OUT HER RESPONSE TO MY REVIEW) NOW SHE'S DOING MTN DAMAGE CONTROL maureen is just trying to rectify and rehabilitate ALL of her negative reviews by responding to the reviewer saying they are not real people and real clients and that the things they are speaking of never happened or never happened they way the reviewer states...all in an effort to clear herself because she knows it will be posted on this site under the negative reviewer. do not fall for it. all of the reviewers that have a negative experiences that i have read on here are EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED. AND I AM A REAL PERSON, unlike what maureen tries to portray in all of her responses. i don't write reviews normally either and i certainly don't follow up. but she is infuriating me with all of this nonsense of trying to portray that her clients who gave her hundreds and thousands of dollars are either not real, lying, mistaken, or the like; and that SHE HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG OR MISLEADING. and she wants you to believe that she has done her best n it's all a farce. she misrepresents n takes your money. she should be brought up on fraud charges! read more
