I've been a longtime customer of Mud Bay Grainery (from the days of only 1 store on Mud Bay Road). One of the things I appreciate is the knowledge the staff has on the vast array of foods they carry. One such employee is Faith B. She really listens every time I bring up another weird issue that my dogs are experiencing. She directs me to the products that address the problem, then explains the benefits in a way I understand. She has always treated me with kindness & respect. The last two times I have came to this location FAITH has been nothing but RUDE!! She definitely does not have a "Muddy" welcoming vibe. Not sure if managemt has changed but with her attitude the way it is I wouldn't be surprised if business has slowed down. Because she SUCKS! read more

Literally just left this store 20 mins ago. It's so cute. I LOVE all the dog treats in the bins because they list every ingredient and they are the cutest shapes. The employees were really sweet to my puppy and answered a few questions I had. I noticed a couple things we bought on Amazon were in store so we will absolutely be going to the store instead of shopping for those things online. read more

What can I say? I practically live here! I've done research on most of the products they carry and they carry nothing but the best. I run a doggy daycare and dog boarding business and I always direct my clients to Mud Bay because they are so knowledgeable when it comes to pet health and behaviors. Their events are awesome, too! Pool parties in the summer, birthday events, and Santa photos around Christmas. I always have so much fun whenever I bring the crew in. I have a pup who is not sociable named Bowsie - shout out to Brandon and Miss Tristan! They have been so awesome when it comes to socializing pups. I'm proud to say that Bowsie is now at the point of giving *boops* to people because of Brandon and Tristan. They've gone his speed and have really earned his trust. I have to give a shout out to Mud Bay in Olympia. They are great and my dog Tessi loves it there. West Oly store is great, but Tumwater has become our store. Brandon and his crew are always so helpful, friendly. More importantly, they treat my dog like royalty. We could hang out there all day. (Anyone of them reading this understand why I say that. AMAZING customer service, very friendly and knowledgeable staff (Tristen) and the store is very clean! I ended up with a surprise kitten last night.. long story short, my 15 year old son rescued a kitten from a filthy home and asked me if we could keep her. She was very cute, and VERY little (has to be less than 8 weeks), she also was very dirty, completely covered in fleas, you could see them crawling all over her. Seeing as how we already have a cat, I was worried about bringing this little one home (with fleas too). We were not prepared to have a new furry baby added to our home (not to mention I am leaving on vacation tomorrow) but, I couldn't see returning her to an unsafe home and I'm a sucker for my kid and fur babies, so, we stopped by Mud Bay our way home with this little one. Now, I must say, I have not been in this mud bay since it opened, though I have driven by it many many times on my way home. When we walked in with our new little fur baby we were greeted promptly by Tristen. She was friendly and attentive. We explained what we needed (which was, well, everything). Tristen listened to us and quickly started getting us the things we would need (even thinking about protecting the cat we already had at home with preventative flea meds). She even taught us how to appropriately introduce our adult male cat to our new kitten and made everything seem a little easier to handle than when we walked into the store. Then, the worst thing happened, we were showing off our kitten and a worm crawled out of it. A WORM! I about died, my soft heart stopped feeling so soft and I started to panic, I can't deal with a surprise kitten with fleas and worms and leave on vacation two days later. I think Tristen read the panic in my eyes, she calmly told me how it was an easy fix and I didn't need to worry, she had the meds right there and then explained to me how to care for this kitten. As a single mom of three boys, I just couldn't wrap my head around all this right now, not two days before vacation. I felt like maybe we needed to return the kitten. It just wasn't the right time for us. I said out loud, maybe we can take it back and pick it back up from the home it came from it once I come back from vacation, when we can give it the attention it needs. Tristen immediately said, no, please don't. If its not a safe home don't take it back there, we can find her a home if you don't want her. She also offered to pay for some of the items the kitten needed out of her own pocket if it was a cost issue. I explained it wasn't either of those things, I just couldn't imagine taking her home right now with all these issues to just leave her alone while I was gone. It just didn't seem fair to anyone. Then Tristen did the MOST AMAZING thing. She offered to take the kitten and watch her for us until I got back on Monday. She offered to bathe her and flea comb her and give her worm medicine and watch her for seven days!!! I couldn't believe it. It made a really tough situation do-able. She was a complete stranger to us and offered to help us help this sweet little kitten (and its siblings if there will still some left). She said she worked for mud bay so that she could help people like us (and our animals). Last night, when we checked in with one another she said it was an hour of flea bath work. She also said she was going to do a preventative treatment for our kitten for roundworm and tapeworm too. The kitten was not eating hard food and was not littler box trained (as the people we got her from said she was) and even more interesting, SHE was not actually a she. Yes, that's right, she was a HE. The people who gave him to my 15 year old son (without my permission) shouldn't have had kittens at all. To say I am grateful for Tristen, for walking into mud bay last night and having this all work out the way it has would be a huge understatement. I truly think that Tristen saved this kittens life. Mud bay- to find (and employ) someone with a heart for and knowledge about animals like Tristen has is like finding a needle in a haystack. Employees like Tristen is what will make Mud bay my new go to animal store from here on out! read more

I love this place to get stuff for my 4 month old feral kitten " Pepper " and I had her since December 6 , 2020 and she loves her free samples . Lisa and Kim are very helpful I can tell they love their pets also . I first started going there December 5 , 2020 before I adopted "Reanne " which is now " Pepper " and went to buy her toys . All those folks seem to be very helpful ! If I could give them 20 or 100 stars I will ! But I already did give them that many from this comment ! read more

Today was my first visit to mud bay and I can't believe it took me so long to go! My daughter and I went in with our 9mo old Maltese and immediately an associate asked if he could give him a treat. I love that I was asked before he approached. My pup is weird about men having only lived with women and can get a bit yippie. I explained my pup has quit eating his puppy food but I've spent hundreds of dollars on adult food he won't touch either. He'll starve himself for days then eat out of desperation and I was at a loss. The associate immediately started asking questions and making recommendations and SAMPLES!!! I had been buying full bags at petco and ending up donating them because he wouldn't eat them. I ended up leaving with a few samples, buying a can of wet food to mix with his dry food and of course treats and a toy. The whole experience was incredible. And the hand written thank you card for it being our first trip was an incredibly nice touch. Thank you guys for being so great I only wish I'd found you sooner! read more

The Tumwater location as well as the one in Olympia on the west side, I have always had very good experience with people being happy to be at their jobs, wanting to help you find something, doing what they can to help you find the right product for your pet. They have a very large selection of both cat and dog products the only downside is they might be slightly overpriced on some of their non-food items....pet beds Etc. But never a bad experience at either one of those locations. read more
