But if your young child can't swim yet, don't even bother wasting your time. They micromanage you with a bunch of rules. No life jackets allowed which is INSANE. Front desk lady tried to gaslight me & say that's a normal policy in most places which it is NOT. She needs to get out more. I've been all across the country & not one other places I've been to has ever had that rule, in fact it's the opposite in most places--non-swimmers are REQUIRED to wear them. So basically my kid couldn't do anything but sit there hanging on the edge of the pool. I tried to walk around the pool with her on my back, again, like I do everywhere else & they said I can't do that either. I couldn't swim cuz I had to watch my child at all times just hanging on the edge of the pool. Not fun at all. Locked rooms are only 18+, so couldn't use that either cuz my kid is with me. Just a bunch of pointless weird rules & micromanaging that doesn't exist anywhere else I've ever seen. Save your money & time & go somewhere else. We ended up just going to raging waters where we have season passes, she can wear life jackets allowed, & we have way more fun.

There are so many varieties of California native plants and they do have a nursery that is usually open a few days a week but is closed for Summer and reopening in October, 2026. What I love about this property is the sprawling amount of walkway to take a nice walk. You'll find enough shade along the way but many parts are not shaded. The pathways are decomposed granite, concrete and or asphalt so it's like hiking in nature but without the dirt road or elevation gain. I also really love that it's not crowded here. It's also smack dab in the middle of nature so you will occasionally see wild animal poop on a path, cracks that have not been repaired, but none of that really bothers me. There are plenty of benches along the path and a restroom on one side of the property so plan accordingly. They used to have a nice gift shop here and novelties like hats, t shirts, children's toys, books are now displayed in a small outdoor kiosk near to where you check in. California Botanic Garden is a member of the American Horticultural Network of Gardens (AHS). So if you have an annual membership at one of the participating Gardens associated with AHS Gardens you automatically have access to visit all of the gardens in network, unlimited visits for no additional charge. It is nice being a member at one garden and having access to visit hundreds of gardens. I'm not sure why that would even be fun in such a confined area. Anyway, I don't recommend it for motorized boats. Too small. But often it's quiet and peaceful there. They have a bird wetland/marsh habitat area at the southeast end of the lake with all kinds of beautiful water birds. The bird watching there is amazing. You even sometimes see Bald Eagles. Many families have parties there and stroll the grounds on the weekend. Perfect for people who don't have yards and want to come and relax on the grass and picnic on the weekend. I recommend anyone in the area that uses the park often get a yearly membership and support this great resource of ours!
