Very Friendly and Pet Friendly staff. DONUTS FOR PEOPLE on the weekend! And coffee most of the time. They also sell dog cookies made by a local care group for autistic and other diagnosis people! Their products are reliable. We've had great success with the dog food, in particular. The cat food samples helped my "Fairy God Cat" discover a new palette and look a little less Buddha like! They also offer some kind of point system for regulars with a redeemable discount applied to other purchases. The original owner, Marnie, seemed very nice and kind the first time I met her. We randomly went in here while staying in the nearby area. Our dogs were on vacation too so Ofcourse they needed treats! While selecting their goodies the staff was so helpful. They recommended several options but our dogs favorite was the polka dog chicken jerky. I spent $25 plus tax on a rubber dog toy for my dogs one year birthday on Oct. 23. After only 5 minutes, perhaps less, my dog was able to begin pulling chunks of rubber from the toy, causing me to have to be the bad-guy and TAKE AWAY his brand new birthday toy. 8 days later, I took said toy into the store and asked of 2 different employees if I could exchange it for something more durable. The male told me it needed to be brought back BEFORE 15 days had passed. I reminded him that I had bought it only 8 days prior. Both employees then agreed that the store policy states you need to be able to re-sell the item. I asked them both why they would want to sell garbage to ANOTHER person?! I've spent a good deal of money in this store, but believe me when I tell you that I won't be making that same mistake EVER again. read more

Granted much customer service in US has been over the top, customers demanding and pay low, though starting to correct a decade or so ago; covid sped that up and also made small business ownership more stressful and perilous. That said, they have many times been impatient and not take responsibility for confusion that they could lessen and/or caused their own signs/communication/policies as well as just realize for many is part of pet care in general these days and treat customers a tad condescendingly..but they are very knowledgeable and conscientious at their core. Bought a collar and a tag there and person didn't notice tag wasn't going to fit the collar nor did i and after the tag was engraved I had to resort to twist ties to keep it on. As someone else noted they didn't mention appointments needed for bath but both instances just mean they are going to go the extra step so if you are used to that or foggy brained like i am then be alert....often free coffee there! --Dog toys have been absurd for so long...they destruct often in minutes for the price of a full meal for a human dining out. I wish all store owners would stop pandering to that but then many customers likely would still come in asking for something cute that won't last. --Nor Cal Pet Supply has been a kinder gentler store with a tad better prices (perhaps due to location in McKinleyville) and they help with adoptions but further from me and staff not always so knowledgeable whereas HPS just have to press a bit and someone there will have lots of knowledge. read more

Good variety of pet supplies, foods, treats. The pet wash station, with a stainless steel tub at perfect height for comfortably washing your dog, has a ramp for your dog to easily walk up into it. Wow, the staff here are so nice and helpful! I went in to pick up a few different kinds of wet cat food for my cat to try, when I told the woman working that my cat only eats the gravy she told me all about their selection which helped me pick which ones would suit my cat best. She was super knowledgeable not only about what products they carried but about the sources of their products as well. This rating is for the pet spa. I was told there were walk ins so I show up and everyone has made appointments, so a waste of time, unless you make an appointment. When I was in a few week before and asked about the pet spa I wish they had told me to make an appointment or what days/times we're actually good for walk ins. I walk in and the first thing I see is two teensy kittens for adoption. Less than ten seconds later I'm greeted by the woman running the shop. Employee? Owner? Not sure. She's followed by a very sweet black and white cat. She doesn't have the Guinea pig shampoo I need, but she has the pellets and hay that I'm going to need in the near future. It will be nice to not have to drive to Eureka for the stuff. She offered to order some for me, but I need it today cause my Guinea pig stinks. She's still very helpful, and has absolutely gained a loyal customer even though I don't buy anything from her today. I plan to go back next week for a big bag of Timothy hay. read more

We were camping nearby, first time with our puppy. We realized one of those raised dog beds would have been ideal, as there were lots of foxtails in the area we were camping, and we only had beds and blankets that sat on the ground had material to which foxtails and dried grass easily stuck. Also some cbd treats might be good to calm down our city pup who wasn't used to wilderness noises in the middle of the night. So I yelp'd the closest pet store with good ratings. Humboldt Pet Supply appeared to be in the middle of a residential neighborhood, so my expectations were low. But boy was I wrong! It was a large, spacious, well-organized store. The staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't find the raised dog bed we were looking for, but their selection of treats, toys, and dog clothing surpassed the typical selection at the pet store we frequent in San Francisco, so we bought a lot of things we didn't come in looking for :-) The staff encouraged us to try on the dog sweater to make sure it fit, which was super nice. read more

I have come into this store on a few occasions, picked up my things, paid and left without any problem. However, special ordering items is such a nightmare and their complete lack of customer service is irritating. I wanted a specific dog food for my pup that they used to carry on their shelves a couple months ago but no longer do. An employee advised that I could special order the item and have it shipped to the store. I have previous experience working at a pet store and this is quite common practice. I order my frozen food, they say they will call me with the price and I can pay once it arrives. Two weeks pass. Like I said, I used to work at a pet store so I am very familiar with the vendors and that some items take longer than others. I show up at the store, they look up my order, apologize for the wait and say it will arrive next week. Another two weeks pass by, so for those keeping track it's been a month. I call asking where my dog's food is. They can't find my name in their shipment list so the woman on the phone speaks to her manager. She gets back to me and says the manager "forgot" to call me. The frozen food I ordered can no longer be received by any of their vendors. Obviously I was upset and all the woman on the phone could do was apologize. Granted I didn't waste any money but my time was definitely wasted and now gives me a bad opinion on this store and their customer service. If I didn't call would they have ever bothered to remember that my dog was still waiting for this specific food that meets his dietary needs. read more
