I've been here before and discovered the thing I like best is the Grasshopper cupcakes. I returned and the same is true. Everything else seems to be too sweet for my tastes. This place has some pretty good cupcakes and other delicious treats. Best part,..they're local. Staff has always been friendly when I visited. My friends and I came in about 930pm and another couple came in right at closing. None of the staff looked at us like "umm hurry up" or rushed us in our decision making. The blueberry cupcake(seasonal) is amazing and pretty, almost too pretty to eat...I said ALMOST. The Prozac is my go to chocolate cupcake. I had a May "guest flavor", the Mimosa cupcake, it was dry but had a nice flavor to it. The menu rotates and once they are out of a flavor..sorry for ya! I will say this location is just adorable. Smaller than their Midtown location but it has a lot of character. Plus it smells delicious inside. So my wonderful friends bought me a dozen cupcakes for my birthday and it made my day. The Santa baby cupcake was OMG so good. I am a chocolate lover and it tasted amazing. Topped with their peppermint icing and candy cake bits, it was a perfect combination. The other flavor cupcake was almond brother cupcake. Again so good, moist, flavorful, delicious. On a side note, I loved the cat decorations that my friend made since I happen to love cats. I've been hearing about Muddy's cupcakes and muffins since I moved to Memphis almost 11 months ago and I finally made it! It was real serendipity as my work team had chosen a nearby bar to meet at dinner and then while parking I spotted this shop and made a plan to come and get dessert later from here. This shop is a lovely bright place with fun and funky decor and it felt very welcoming. I decided to order a Rosemary Orange Muffin ($1.50) and Nancy's coconut chess pie. For my taste, that muffin totally rocked! The taste was superb. It was liking bitting into the perfect piece of cake and the flavors just complimented each other perfectly. The coconut chess pie, not so much. I totally admit to being swayed to try this pie by a note that said it was on Travel & Leisure's things to try in Memphis (so now done that and unsure what the fuss was about?). Despite the Coconut chess pie mis-step, I would totally return - there's a whole bunch of other flavours here waiting to be checked out and discovered! And the prices are super reasonable too. We have been countless times to Muddy's and they literally have no product available sometimes. I can understand running out of specialty flavors, but they should NEVER be out of their staples like Plain Jane or Prozac. So frustrating. Their cupcakes are amazing! I've worked in numerous fairly high-end bakeries, so I don't take my cupcakes lightly. I chose four flavors- almond, lemon, chocolate, and wedding cake. They were all delicious, but I cannot stress this enough: do NOT skip the wedding cake. Having four cupcakes to myself, I only planned on a couple bites of each. But I devoured the wedding cake. It really is a precious bakery and I love seeing people hanging out here like it is a restaurant. Whimsical in nature with gnomes, coffee cups, and several branded items for sale speckled amidst the pastel tinged décor it was with samples of the bakeshop's rather underwhelming toffee offered that we perused the options and with a few questions answered a nine-piece order was placed, part of it plated for immediate indulgence while the rest was boxed for later consumption - the cupcakes all exceedingly dry just a few hours later with only the 'Prozac' titled chocolate on chocolate proving even remotely well flavored as the grasshopper was exceedingly artificial in its 'mint' while the red velvet lacked any semblance of cream cheese tang. Again finding the simple chocolate cake to be pleasant and moist in a slice of layer-cake upgraded by rich peanut butter frosting it was mostly the pies that had caught our attention from the start and although the 'buttermilk' was far less flavorful than other local iterations of Chess, the coconut topped version was absolutely reference standard creaminess beneath lightly toasted curls, a true standout amongst a quartet that also included Pecan pie with too much sticky filler and "Tollhouse Jack" that mostly tasted like an soft and sweet chocolate chip cookie despite the supposed inclusion of both nuts and booze. read more

I can't get beyond the "Prozac" cupcake to try out the rest of the menu. It's JUST SO FLIPPIN' DELICIOUS. In a way, I wish I never knew about this place. It takes sheer will not to turn these cupcakes into your main course. I also love the energy of the place. You feel like you're in your grandma's kitchen and she just baked your favorite dessert. You also get the feeling the people behind the counter are very serious about making sure your taste buds are satisfied. I just love when people love what they do and make sure you have a great customer experience. It's a setting where you can breeze in and buy a tasty confection or sit down with your laptop and savor the experience with a well-brewed cup of coffee. I love cupcakes. Who doesn't? While visiting Memphis I was really looking forward to trying a cupcake shop and when I was brought here I was really excited to see the cupcakes they offered. They did have some of the traditional cupcakes, but when I saw a banana cupcake with banana cream frosting I got so excited! I had to try it. I also had to try the red velvet. What I really like about Muddy's is that the cupcakes aren't giant and the frosting is just the right amount. Also, the price can't be beat. Finally got the chance to step foot inside the infamous Muddy's and get my cupcake on! This place is adorable! I wanted every t-shirt and bumper sticker they had to offer! I love the seriously 1950s retro vibe going on in here. The tables are too cute for words, word to the wise Muddy's I may just shove them up my shirt and steal them next time I come in! This time, I opted for the Lemon (um yeah, I couldn't pass it up again) and the cappuccino cupcake. Both were seriously delightful. My favorite part of Muddy's? Really good cupcakes! They don't bake on-air so they have what they have when you get there. I suggest going early because at night you're stuck getting the ones that didn't sell. They will still be good, you just might not get the flavor you originally came in for. They cost about $2.25 per cup cake. Wow. This place did not disappoint. All I had were cupcakes but they had banana pudding, Oreo pudding, homemade oatmeal cream pies, pie, cake.... so many options. We got about 10 cupcakes for three of us. The lemon was the star for me. The frosting was a perfect balance of zest and sweet and complimented the yummy cake part. I also loved the strawberry one. After trying other cupcakeries on the East & West coast, I had to upgrade my review of Muddys to 5 stars, especially after a second trip back. My favorite cake combo ever is chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting, and Muddy's offering, the Capote does not disappoint. By far one of the best, moistest chocolate cakes I've ever had. I tried two other flavors that I hadn't tried on my previous visit, the Pucker Up (tart lemon cake with lemon buttercream) and Strawberry Fields Forever (strawberry cake with strawberry buttercream) and was not disappointed. The Pucker Up was to die for. Gotta give 5 stars to the service too, I came around 7PM and it appeared Strawberry Fields Forever was sold out but the lady helping me went back and found a strawberry cupcake for me and frosted it then & there!
