We also ordered a slice of Red Velvet Pound Cake. Every dish we ordered was delicious and flavorful. The wings were crispy and very flavorful. The Oxtail Soul Bowl was packed and loaded on top of a bed of corn bread and it came with a huge piece of corn bread on the side. The red velvet pound cake was something different, but good too. Just very sweet especially drinking their half gallon "Mystery" juice which was good, but also pretty diabetes sweet. I tried my best to get the mystery ingredients from one of the cashiers, but she held strong lol. Overall, it is a pretty expensive type of food, but the portions is pretty huge and fulfilling as well so it balances out. The staff were super friendly and the food didn't take too long to come out. They were under renovation so they only did takeout orders which was a bummer. Parking lot is a bit small, but you'll be fine.

Hubs had the catfish bites and Mac and cheese. Both were seasoned well and delicious. I had the fried ribs with baked beans and potato salad. The ribs were fried in a batter seasoned to perfection, and I really enjoyed those. I loved the potato salad and the baked beans were ok. My husband liked them but I thought they tasted heavily of bbq sauce. We all tried a side of spaghetti and it was good as well. Tasted like the spaghetti we used to make in college lol We got the Mystery Koolaid and Mango Peach Lemonade. Both excellent and surprisingly not too sweet. The service was 10/10. There was a very friendly young lady taking orders. This location is takeout only, so no ambiance to speak of. They run a very efficient operation, and I plan to return for sure.

Listen! there are vegan restaurants, and then there's Chopping Roots. What I experienced here…read morewasn't just good for vegan food... it was culinary excellence, period. This place is cooking with purpose, flavor, and a boldness that puts even the most seasoned soul food spots on notice. Let's talk about that Fried Chick'n. I've eaten a lot of fried chicken in my life real, seasoned, Southern, bone-in, boneless, you name it. And not one has made me stop mid-bite and say, "Wait... this is vegan?" The outer crisp was perfection golden, light, and just enough crunch to command attention. But the inside? Soft, juicy, meaty. They didn't just imitate chicken. They improved it. Fool me any day if this is the standard. But I didn't stop there. I went full Sunday plate on a Saturday: Cornbread dressing: Moist, savory, and nostalgic in the best way. Yams: Like dessert, but not overly sweet. Silky smooth and soul-warming. Collard greens: Seasoned like somebody's auntie who don't measure nothing but knows exactly what she's doing. Mac and cheese: Creamy, rich, layered, no shortcuts, no weird vegan aftertaste, just yes. Everything on that plate was so good my foodie partner had to physically stop me from diving in face-first. Had they not pulled me back, I would've left with nothing but crumbs, a smear of yam glaze, and regrets for not documenting the magic. The space itself at the Frisco Fresh Market is welcoming laid-back but intentional. The service and energy is grounded in community, flavor, and something sacred that goes beyond food. This isn't just about being plant-based, it's about being rooted. Chopping Roots is proof that vegan soul food doesn't have to compromise. It just has to be done right. And they absolutely did it right. Frisco, you've been blessed. Don't sleep on this spot. #HayiaSophiaFaves #ChoppingRoots #VeganSoulDoneRight #FlavorOverEverything

Had to put this on Yelp to get the word out! I got the vegan fried chicken (Southern fried oyster mushrooms on the menu). Yum! The texture was so realistic that my non-vegan mom was sure it was actually chicken. And as a plant based eater of 8+ years I was sort of worried like I did when Impossible burger came out! Very real. Almost too real, haha! I took some home and ate it with some vegan mashed potatoes and gravy. It was HEAVEN. I will definitely be back for vegan fried chicken and vegan mac and cheese next time!

At first, I was a little hesitant because the menu is fairly small, but after my meal, I can see why. Every dish we ordered was absolutely a 10/10. I had the chicken with greens and shrimp fried rice, along with the fried green tomatoes and cornbread. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I honestly don't have a single negative thing to say about either the food or the service. This was an amazing dining experience, and I will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

I had high hopes for this location because I absolutely love Radici, and everyone has been…read morerecommending Roots to me. Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to the expectations I had. I do want to start with the positives. Our waiter was fantastic. He was very attentive, explained the menu thoroughly, and provided excellent service. The food also came out incredibly fast and piping hot, which is becoming rare these days. We started with the cornbread, and it was easily a 10/10. It was worth every bit of the $12. We ordered the fried chicken, greens, shrimp fried rice, biscuits, and hot water cornbread. The fried chicken was crispy and tender, but it lacked seasoning. I'd give it a 7/10. They served it with a house hot sauce, but surprisingly it had no heat and almost no flavor. I even asked the person I was dining with if they tasted anything because it was like pouring sauce on the chicken without changing the flavor at all. The greens were just okay on their own, but once we added the vinegar they became amazing. That made me wonder why the vinegar isn't incorporated into the greens from the start. The hot water cornbread had virtually no flavor. The shrimp fried rice was cooked really well, but it had an unexpected Caribbean-style seasoning that threw me off. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't what I was expecting, and it made it hard to fully enjoy. The biscuits were probably the biggest disappointment. They were dry and hard. One thing I also noticed is that, for a family style restaurant where you're encouraged to order several dishes to share, the tables feel too small. Once all the food arrived, there wasn't much room left, and even packing up our leftovers was awkward because of the lack of space. One standout that deserves recognition was the iced tea. It had what tasted like a subtle hint of mint and was incredibly refreshing. Easy 10/10. From the cuts of chicken we received, it appears they break down and fry whole chickens, which is perfectly fine. However, at $56 for a fried chicken that lacked seasoning, I found the price hard to justify. Maybe the cooking method or oil contributes to the cost, but I expected much more flavor for that price. Overall, I'd rate my experience a 7.5/10. Would I come back? Yes. I'd be willing to give Roots another chance and try something different from the menu. But when I hear Southern food, I expect bold seasoning and comforting flavors, and that's the one area where this meal really fell short.

This place is phenomenal. We ordered dessert for the first time. Pies are NO good. I will say - we didn't love it. In fact, the peach cobbler was very disappointing. Zero flavor at all. Shortcake and coconut were better but nothing amazing. Quickly regretted asking for it. Will not have it again. Definitely not the cherry on top. We'll stick to the amazing chicken and sides and then call it a day.

When I arrived, I was waiting on two family members who were about 10 minutes away, so I went ahead to put our name in. The hostess told me I could go right in, which made it seem like a table was ready, but she never took my name or wrote anything down. After I explained I was waiting for two others, she said "okay" and then started taking names and numbers from other parties, leaving me off to the side without her saying anything else. It was odd, so I sat down. After sitting for maybe 5-7 minutes, I noticed she was taking names for parties of 2 and 3, which was confusing. When I asked about it, she said she already had my party and name even though she had never taken it. At that point, it felt like the Chinese restaurant episode of Seinfeld, where somehow you're waiting but also not really on the list. She finally took my name for a party of three and quoted a 30-45 minute wait, without accounting for the time already lost. My family members arrived shortly after, and we still waited another 20 minutes or so. Once we were seated, the service didn't improve much. Our server was extremely slow, and everything came out at once. We barely had time to get drinks, salads, or biscuits before the food arrived. Refills and additional requests felt more burdensome than attentive. While the food and drinks themselves were great, the overall service felt very disorganized and subpar.

We had the pleasure of meeting Nana herself. Me and my mom enjoyed speaking with her. She was pleasant and friendly. I loved how she was very down to earth. My mom took a photo with her. My server was the sweetest and most polite person. She checked on me and my mom multiple times. She was friendly and helpful. So I must say my service was welcoming and AMAZING! I felt like part of the family! Now it's not a fancy place, but it was clean and cozy. Like a mom and pops place. Condiments are provided on the table. Even roses that were real are in a vase. You can dine in or they have a carry out side. Well I chose fish since that's what I wanted. The 2 piece filet meal comes with 2 sides. They will bring your food out in a plastic container. So if you have left overs it's already set to go. The food came out hot and fresh. The fish was fried nicely. I wish it was seasoned a bit more for my liking. It was pretty good though. It was a great size and again fried to perfection. The hush puppies were really tasty. The fried corn fritter was delicious. The pickled tartar sauce was unique and I loved it. OMG the cabbage was so DAMN GOOD! This stole the show. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned with love. It touched my soul and I wanted to lick my container. The Mac and Cheese was a NO for me. It was like black pepper and cheese sauce. It was just blah and II didn't even eat it. However, others may like it, but it wasn't that great. Sorry Nana! Overall I had a good visit! I will definitely come back and EAT when in the area. The cabbage won me over. I left feeling happy and full. The southern hospitality was FANTASTIC!
