I really wanted to love this place but was extremely disappointed. My mac was soupy and tasted and looked like over seasoned velvetta shells NOT baked mac n cheese The cornbread tasted just like vanilla cake and no cornmeal at all

If I could give 100 stars I would! This place was ahhhhmazeballs. The service was good and everyone was helpful. The food though was out of this world!! The hubs had a fried chicken bowl with mac, broccoli casserole and yams. I had the fried ribs with cabbage and collard greens. We drove 2 hrs for this and it was worth every second of waiting.

I am thrilled that Soulful Street Bites is close by because WOW, this place is next level. The service deserves a standing ovation. Every single person was smiling, kind, and genuinely attentive. You can feel the good vibes the moment you walk in. The Georgia peach tea and lemonade combo made my entire day. I only wish there were free refills because it was THAT good. Pure happiness in a cup. The fried mushrooms... unreal. I'm still dreaming about them. Perfectly crispy, insanely flavorful, just everything. The chicken wings were hot, fresh, crispy, and pristine. I added a little hot sauce and my goodness... absolutely out of this world. the broccoli cheese rice? YES. YES. YES. Comfort food perfection. I wish the ribs were a little more "fall off the bone" mine were a bit tough. Every single bite was a win. I loved everything. Truly divine and already counting down to my next visit.

Ambiance-I can feel the soulful atmosphere. It's cute and has a cozy feel. I love the colorful artwork on the walls. It feels clean and new. I love they have booths and tables. The bar area and other decor is simple. 4 STARS Service-It's a mess, but they are new so I will cut them some slack. They need to get some leadership that can get them organized. They need a system to flow and keep things moving smoothly. The take out was so slow. People that came in to dine were already eating and I was still waiting and waiting. 1 STAR Food-It was decent. The Mac & Cheese is a no for me. The catfish bites were not bad. They were seasoned well. 2.5 STARS OVERALL I know they have some kinks to work out. This location is new and needs to get a system in place. I will go back and give it another chance and dine in. I can see the potential for success. I will just wait a few months to give them time to get up and running. I am wishing this location success and hope to have a better experience next time.

Came at 12:30, and place was already getting packed. There was a line. The menu pretty simple and so much to choose from. The service was great and food was yummy and large portions!! The seats sunk in which I didnt like but overall good food and loved the music

Loved the service and the food. I had the catfish bites and shrimp.. we came just at the right time because the line is long now.

I was surprised to find a soul food restaurant in Frisco....so I decided to give them a shot despite being a little skeptical. However, after finding out the owners were from Jackson, MS and Kool-AID was on the menu, my expectations shot up. I had the catfish with a side of Mac & Cheese and the Yams. I've got to say, those YAMS!! If you like them sweeeeet, this is the place to be. Some of the best I've had in a long time. Catfish was nice and crispy, Mac was alright, but the peach cobbler was straight on point. I'd definitely go back, I'd love to try the other options on the menu. Downside, they do charge for refills...

This was my first time at this particular location. It is closer to my BFF who invited me out. Like with the Addison location there was a line, but my BFF and I sat at the bar. I got the oxtails which came with mashed potatoes and I got the mac & cheese as a side. I also got a lemon drop martini with a splash of strawberry flavor. No complaints. Everybody around the bar was real friendly and so was the bartender. We were there for several hours, just having a grand ole time. Others got the fried chicken, fried catfish. Again, there were no complaints. BTW, the oxtails were not on the menu. We saw someone with them and ordered them. Maybe the bar menu was different from the table menu. I'm not sure. I think they'll do well there. It's a great location. Just don't expect to be seated immediately and you'll be good.

First time here and it's a possibility I might try it again. My sister, daughter and daughter in law went there to order to go for our household. My order was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. They were out of Oxtails so I ordered the "Wings Pls" with 2 sides, sweet yams and cabbage plus yellow cake with chocolate frosting. My lemon pepper wings were so SALTY & soggy that I that I threw them away on top of there was 1 of 8 that I swear they took off someone's plate and threw it in my order. The cabbage look like it was the last of the pot (they did go 35 mins before closing but that's not an excuse) and had a strange taste and the yams weren't seasoning correctly the cinnamon overpowered the nutmeg. Now my cake was disgusting, it tasted like dry box cake that was made 2 days prior. I tasted my sister's pork chop which was nice, crisp and moist, she liked her rice but not said the gravy was so-so and said her 3 desserts were good. She didn't like her chicken tetrazzini; but said she and our mom liked the catfish. My daughter liked her bbq ribs, Mac n cheese and yams. My daughter in law liked her fried ribs but not her Mac n cheese neither did I when I tasted my daughters, it tasted like there was Velveeta in it or too much of some smooth cheese sauce consistency. Unfortunately I tied my food up in that black bag and threw it outside in the trash. IF I decide to try it again it'll be for the oxtails or pork chop; OH and I called to ask a question and the answering machine came on and said "nobody's available to answer your call," it's irritating when businesses don't answer calls.

"We" make it so hard to support Black-owned businesses when they consistently provide mediocre service at best. I placed an online order and received a text message confirming my order was ready for pickup. Upon arrival, I was told, "Your side isn't on the menu today. What else do you want?" I asked why no one called to notify me and why I received a text saying my order was ready. The young lady responded again, "We don't have it. What else do you want?" After requesting a refund, a young man came from the back wearing an apron and smelling like weed to tell me I needed to request a refund through the third-party company that handles their online orders. This experience was embarrassing and reinforces why I struggle to support my own people.

Listen! there are vegan restaurants, and then there's Chopping Roots. What I experienced here…read morewasn't just good for vegan food... it was culinary excellence, period. This place is cooking with purpose, flavor, and a boldness that puts even the most seasoned soul food spots on notice. Let's talk about that Fried Chick'n. I've eaten a lot of fried chicken in my life real, seasoned, Southern, bone-in, boneless, you name it. And not one has made me stop mid-bite and say, "Wait... this is vegan?" The outer crisp was perfection golden, light, and just enough crunch to command attention. But the inside? Soft, juicy, meaty. They didn't just imitate chicken. They improved it. Fool me any day if this is the standard. But I didn't stop there. I went full Sunday plate on a Saturday: Cornbread dressing: Moist, savory, and nostalgic in the best way. Yams: Like dessert, but not overly sweet. Silky smooth and soul-warming. Collard greens: Seasoned like somebody's auntie who don't measure nothing but knows exactly what she's doing. Mac and cheese: Creamy, rich, layered, no shortcuts, no weird vegan aftertaste, just yes. Everything on that plate was so good my foodie partner had to physically stop me from diving in face-first. Had they not pulled me back, I would've left with nothing but crumbs, a smear of yam glaze, and regrets for not documenting the magic. The space itself at the Frisco Fresh Market is welcoming laid-back but intentional. The service and energy is grounded in community, flavor, and something sacred that goes beyond food. This isn't just about being plant-based, it's about being rooted. Chopping Roots is proof that vegan soul food doesn't have to compromise. It just has to be done right. And they absolutely did it right. Frisco, you've been blessed. Don't sleep on this spot. #HayiaSophiaFaves #ChoppingRoots #VeganSoulDoneRight #FlavorOverEverything

Had to put this on Yelp to get the word out! I got the vegan fried chicken (Southern fried oyster mushrooms on the menu). Yum! The texture was so realistic that my non-vegan mom was sure it was actually chicken. And as a plant based eater of 8+ years I was sort of worried like I did when Impossible burger came out! Very real. Almost too real, haha! I took some home and ate it with some vegan mashed potatoes and gravy. It was HEAVEN. I will definitely be back for vegan fried chicken and vegan mac and cheese next time!

I have never experienced anything like it! For starters, the staff was phenomenal! Our waitress was so sweet! And while we were enjoying our feast, they even broke out into dance! LOL! Dinner and a show! I will say, there is no menu...I know, bare with me! But the entire meal is family style, and all you choose is your protein which is then brought out family style as well enough to feed the table! At first I couldn't believe it and then they brought out the salad and then followed all the sides! And I am talking mash potatoes, green beans, biscuits, gravy, corn! It was endless! And sure enough when we finished something, it was quickly picked up and refilled! I ordered the catfish and my partner got fried chicken and let me just say...10/10! They brought out the crispiest fried fish and chicken ever and it was enough to feed us both with leftovers! I would definitely recommend this place for any family celebration or outing with friend! It was a perfect dinner! We cannot wait to return!

When I arrived, I was waiting on two family members who were about 10 minutes away, so I went ahead to put our name in. The hostess told me I could go right in, which made it seem like a table was ready, but she never took my name or wrote anything down. After I explained I was waiting for two others, she said "okay" and then started taking names and numbers from other parties, leaving me off to the side without her saying anything else. It was odd, so I sat down. After sitting for maybe 5-7 minutes, I noticed she was taking names for parties of 2 and 3, which was confusing. When I asked about it, she said she already had my party and name even though she had never taken it. At that point, it felt like the Chinese restaurant episode of Seinfeld, where somehow you're waiting but also not really on the list. She finally took my name for a party of three and quoted a 30-45 minute wait, without accounting for the time already lost. My family members arrived shortly after, and we still waited another 20 minutes or so. Once we were seated, the service didn't improve much. Our server was extremely slow, and everything came out at once. We barely had time to get drinks, salads, or biscuits before the food arrived. Refills and additional requests felt more burdensome than attentive. While the food and drinks themselves were great, the overall service felt very disorganized and subpar.
