Cast iron cornbread - deliciously salty butter (keep it this way) and the strawberry add-on was obviously homemade (so fresh) My mother's gumbo - takes me right back to New Orleans. Spicy, full of flavor and seafood Specialty pear alcoholic drink - truly one of a kind, very peary drink I came here because it's a farm to table spot by James beard nominated Tiffany derry in farmers branch. Staff was crazy attentive - new butter when I finished mine and quick to make sure I got what I wanted. Vibes are more upscale - white tablecloths, fine dining.

I've been wanting to visit Tiffany Derry's acclaimed restaurant in Farmers Branch and finally got the chance! The space is inviting, casual, bright and comfortable. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were golden brown and crisp. The rhubarb jam made this southern speciality pop. The best part of our meal was the cast iron cornbread and my mother's gumbo. The gumbo had a nicely brown roux and so much flavor. Tiffany is so lucky if her mama was making this gumbo growing up. The cornbread was also next level. The butter was presented under a smoky glass dome and the combo of syrup and salty butter was scrumptious. Hub and I shared the red fish with shrimp fried rice. This was my least favorite as I didn't love the pairing. Nor was the preparation of the red fish memorable. Will I return? Oh yes, save me a seat at the bar for gumbo, cornbread and their mouth watering cocktails.

Lamb Chops with hoppin john were ok. Pricey for only 2 chops.

Good FOOD equals GOOD MOOD! Soulful Sunday is available on the 4th Sunday of each month. It's a special menu with good food that touches your SOUL. Think Sunday dinner at grandma's house! The menu rotates each month to keep it fresh and exciting. I took my mom for her birthday and the experience was amazing. Sunday Funday & Soulful Sunday! Let's' talk FOOD! The cornbread was delicious and cooked with love. It came with salted butter and cherry/orange jam. The greens were heavenly and perfectly seasoned. The collard and mustard greens were flavorful and cooked with a ham hock. The Mac & Cheese was scrumptious. It was creamy and cheesy goodness. It melted in my mouth. The pork chop fell a little short. It was fried nicely and well seasoned. However, it was rough and tough and all that stuff. I really should have asked them to make me another. The knife didn't want to cut through it. Service was good as our waiter was pleasant and polite. He told my mom happy birthday and that was sweet! Ambiance was nice and it was clean and cozy. I loved the fresh simple flowers on the table. I requested a booth and they were able to accommodate the birthday gals wish. It's funny it was the same booth I sat in when I came before. It's been years since my last visit. This experience was so much better. I was happy, satisfied and FULL! I wish this event and menu was every Sunday. This would be great! I truly felt the love, soul, flavors and seasoning. A wonderful birthday meal! I would have given it 5 stars, but that pork chop was a little hard to chew and swallow. Looking forward to the next SOULFUL Sunday!

Roots Southern Table was honestly amazing. I've been a huge fan of Top Chef, and Tiffany Derry has always been one of my favorites. So when I found out we were getting a chance to try one of her restaurants, I was all in. Didn't get to meet her this time (lol), but I've met a few top chefs while living in Vegas, so I'll take the win on the food alone. Keenan, our server, absolutely made the experience. Super knowledgeable, great energy, and honestly just told us what we should order and he nailed it. Every recommendation hit. We started with the cornbread, which is easily in my personal top 5. Then the duck fat fried chicken... I'm not even going to try to describe it properly, just order it. Trust me. The deviled eggs were another standout, and then the greens... I've lived in the South, and I can confidently say these were the best greens I've ever had. No contest. There were about 10 of us, so we got to try a bunch of different mains, and I didn't hear a single complaint from anyone. I had the short rib, and the depth of flavor was insane, simple dish, but it hit hard in all the right ways. Finished it off with the German chocolate cake, and that first bite straight up gave me a Ratatouille moment, took me right back to being a kid in 1984 eating my grandma's birthday cake. Just unreal. Definitely stop by, say what's up to Keenan, and enjoy one hell of a meal in a southern ambience.

I made a reservation and was seated when I arrived. It was a Sunday evening and they had live music which was really good. It was a trumpet player playing r&b/soul music. I really like the atmosphere of the restaurant. My waiter was not as attentive when I first arrived but made it up by taking off a food item. I ordered the cornbread for an appetizer and it was really good with the smoked butter. I ordered jerk lamb chops with greens as my side. Both were really good and flavorful. Overall it was a great experience and glad I got to check out while in town!

Tiffany Derry always has the best menu around! The food tonight was to die for. I got the scallops and my partner got the short ribs. Both were extremely flavorful! Additionally we had the carpaccio as well as the gumbo- well worth the decision to get it! We split a bottle of wine and polished the meal off with the best German chocolate cake. It was the most decadent cake I have ever had. Our server, Jj, was extremely kind, friendly, and knowledgeable. He helped us pick the wine and we loved it! The atmosphere is very intimate and romantic. We will definitely always come back here!

The ladies both ordered redfish and rice.

As soon as you walk in this restaurant, you can smell all of these delicious aromas floating, throughout the restaurant entire restaurant in general. You, are politely greeted as soon as walk in. You hear nice music playing, people talking among their dinner party, everyone having a blessed beautiful Saturday evening. Their wait staff, is rigyon point, as soon as you ask for anything, by time you turn around, they are handing it to you. Your food is brought to you, fresh, hot and ready for you to get yummy, with your tummy. The management staff, is awesome as well, they come to your table as well to check on you and see if it is anything else you may need. If you haven't been to this restaurant, please make reservations and go, you will be so glad, that you did. Highly recommend and I will be back soon.

I love Tiffany on tv and was so excited at the chance to visit her restaurant and try her food, and it did not disappoint. We all enjoyed our dishes thoroughly. I had the char-grilled chicken and wow oh wow, it was so amazingly flavorful, and the harissa gave it the perfect touch of heat. I had never had fonio and it was moist and delicious. The fennel salad provided the acid. Such a great dish. The cornbread was addictive. The scallops were cooked well. The short rib was tender. The wait staff was nice (shout out to Tre). The hostess was sweet and allowed us to sit before all of our party arrived. This was a 10/10 experience. I will be back for the fried chicken and shrimp and grits bites next time.

Every time we eat here, we leave thinking that we need to come here more often. We probably would if we lived closer. Definitely need to make a reservation. Each time we've visited, it has been packed. The menu at Roots has a variety of offerings, all with a twist/elevation on Southern soul food cuisine. There are some items that are constant on their menu and usually items that are created seasonally. Our waiter was helpful, pleasant and professional and the overall service was excellent. I ordered †he scallops with ravioli w/mushrooms and hubby order the redfish over rice. Both were delicious. The scallops and redfish were perfectly cooked. For dessert we ordered the Orange Juice Cake and the Berries and Lemonade sorbet. The OJ cake had a really good taste, but it is served floating in liquid...which makes the cake too wet. I think if there was less juice, it might keep some of it's flavor without making the cake so soggy. With that being said...there was no cake left. LOL The sorbet was a delicious finish to our dinner and dessert. It was a perfect balance of tart and sweet. Definitely one of our favorite places to eat and would recommend you try it.

Anyone who knows me, knows my DVR is all good network shows. For this reason, hubby surprised me by trying Chef Tiffany Derry's restaurant while we are visiting family in Dallas. Upon walking in, we were quickly greeted and seated for six. Ambiance is causal and modern. I loved the touch of fresh flowers on each table. We love to eat family style, so we ordered a lot... Apps: Cornbread, Fried Shrimp & Grits, Deviled eggs, Tamarind Salad Entrees: Fried Chicken, Gumbo, Redfish Sides: Biscuits, Collards ...more cornbread (IYKYK) Spirits: Purple Rain Best bite is a tie between the cornbread and shrimp and grits. Chicken definitely deserves an honorable mention. Drinks were amazing. Each time someone tasted it, they ordered one. The staff was comical, knowledgeable and attentive. We had a great experience & will undoubtedly return. Looking forward to trying her other concepts, but Roots has set the bar pretty high. Enter freely and thank me later, they've been approved

Came here with colleagues for dinner and was quite impressed with food served here. The chicken was super crispy and juicy. We also enjoyed the corn bread and salad. Everything came out very flavorful.

Nothing beats homemade soul food! Another new place that I tried out. Every bite tasted like it was made with love and tradition. The chicken was on the juicy side perfectly seasoned. The gumbo was prefect and rich, and the collard greens were tender with that slow-cooked, savory flavor that just hits right. Don't forget the cornbread -- warm, soft, and slightly sweet. We sat at the bar because we didn't have a reservation. I love the artwork, that they had all over the restaurant that was pretty cool. I didn't get to get pictures of that. But I can not wait to go back.

Roots service is top notch. The space is intimate and comfy. Received birthday NA champagne on the house- great add to celebrate. We didn't drink them the NA champagne flute smelled like soap and tasted like it too. The NA drinks also tasted like soap. Only downside to the experience was the drinks. A few things I noticed not on par with top chef. Paper menus-understandably since their menu was explained as seasonal. No placenta or change of utensils between appetizers and main course- out utensils placed dirty back on the table when our plates were taken. Fried rice was flavorful and my husbands favorite. I was looking at the mango pistachio salad but we went with the recommended persimmon "top chef moment" so good! Cornbread was delicious melted on my tongue and worth returning. Steak was cooked perfectly. Ice cream and sorbet delicious. Def recommend and will visit again with friends just to try the family style fried chicken.

We ordered a variety of dishes including dahi poori, vegetable pakora, paneer chili, gobi Manchurian, veg chili momo, paneer tikka masala, malai kofta, chow mein, and a naan bread basket. The appetizers were better than the North Indian dishes. The paneer tikka masala and malai kofta were on the sweeter side despite us ordering them medium spicy. The kofta balls were also on the smaller side, and the paneer tikka masala had very few pieces of paneer. The chow mein was the star of the meal. It was flavorful and definitely my favorite dish. For the pakora, they only gave a small amount of green chutney, so we had to ask for more along with some tamarind chutney. There's parking behind the restaurant, which was convenient. If you're in the mood for chaat or North Indian food, I would probably choose a different restaurant.
