If you're a beer drinker, Mugs is definitely a must-see. They have a great selection, including some vintage and limited edition brews (I saw a $300 bottle of Sam on the menu). I haven't really been to another place that serves this sort of stuff so I enjoyed browsing the list of tasty drinks that I can't afford. Another thing I like about Mugs was the atmosphere. It's definitely nothing fancy by any means but, in my opinion, the building is pretty neat. We managed to grab an open booth by the window and I was very comfortable while drinking with my friends. Well, maybe it's because we went here on a Saturday afternoon and the place was crazy packed. Me and my buddy walk on to the back of the place and find a table. So far, so good....From here on it went downhill. The waitress comes over and hands us two menus and walks off. After watching her ignore us for 15 minutes, I attempt to go to the bar and get a couple of beers which proved to be futile. The line was 5 deep and nearly impossible to get a drink. Great place to pre- or post-game for Brooklyn Brewery. Prices are extraordinarily reasonable, even though they raised their beer prices from $4 to $4.50 for huge 20 oz drafts of awesome beer, including at least one or two from the cask. Great value for food too. Pretty much everything you could want from a neighborhood watering hole. Too bad I don't live in the neighborhood. read more

I love mugs. When i lived in greenpoint I went here all the time. When my boyfriend and I broke up and I was horribly sad, my friends went with me here like 5 nights in a row because walking here and drinking german beers and eating nachos was all i wanted to do. That was very nice of them, since they kind of hate it here. The food has gotten progessively grosser in the past few years. The last time I went here was about a year ago and it was totally disgusting. They still had lots of good beer though. I always want to come here when I go to wburg, but no one else ever wants to. read more

This place has tons of beers to choose from. I went there last night and ordered a water. We all ordered either water or coffee. The waitress made fun of us. The food was very sub par. I had chicken wings which were not hot at all. I hate that. It was like they put ketchup on them. I also had potato leek soup which totally sucked. I would totally go back to try the beers, but I don't think I'll be getting the chicken wings any time soon. read more

The bar has a surprisingly great beer selection and the food's decent, but the service is a bit off-putting. Our waitress was a bit crazy. She seemed annoyed to have to wipe down our table. Then slammed down our menus and barely looked at us to say 'you can sit here'. The best part though was when she leaned on the table, propped her head on her hand, and looked straight into my boyfriend's eyes and said 'And what would you like?'. We were ready to see menus for a late lunch.after several long minutes waitress Finally took our drink order.we ordered 2 diet cokes and 2 glasses of beer.my daughter realized after the beer came that the alcohol content was just simply too high for het liking.she had take. AHHH! I can't decide...3 stars or 4? The beer menu is AMAZING, and I liked my salad...but the service was abominable . Went here on a whim the other night and was pleasantly surprised. Like most sports bars in New York City, it's definitely not a place you go to for quiet contemplation. That said, it's not so loud that you can't have a decent conversation-one of the strange aspects is the music+unmuted sports commentary, which is a combo I hadn't come across before. Didn't have a chance to sample the cuisine, but the drink selection is fair-as well as reasonably priced. Worth taking a flyer on, IMO. read more

::EDIT:: We went to Mugs after a 8 month hiatus to find that they changed the menu! Normally, they have awesome specials - this time only TWO things, both of which sounded gross. We normally order the buffalo calamari - but this time it was soggy and just not very appetizing. The steak was served in a "shitake au jus", which was more like a thick barbcue sauce / gravy. The "dill" mashed potatos were awful. My question to mugs is: If it ain't broke.... why fix it? I've lived in the neigborhood for 7 years, and Mugs was my regular go-to for dinner and drinks. Affordable & delicious food with excellent service! After moving out of the hood, we find ourselves having major mugs cravings!! read more

I'm kind of surprised by the negative reviews here. I mean, it's an Ale House. You're not there for "atmosphere", or a gourmet meal (pub food, by definition, is bland). You're there for the beer and this place does great beer at affordable prices better than anyone in the city. They actually do food quite well here, I think. I'm partial to the chicken sandwich, but their burgers, steaks, portobello sandwiches and half chickens are quite good as well. And you can't beat the prices - $6-$7 for a sandwich, a steak for $11 - if you get "the special" as your beer, you can get a decent filling meal and two drinks for less than $15 with tip. Where can you beat that? Mugs also puts on beer fests at least twice a year with "Split thy Skull" and "Belgium 2 Brooklyn". The latter, in particular, is not to be missed. I've probably been to Mugs around 200 times within the past five years - maybe more. Here's to 200 more - cheers! read more

Good bar with a cozy atmosphere and friendly bartenders. They don't open for dinner until 5 PM, but they are perfectly willing to accommodate you on the meantime and offer you beverages or whatever else you need. Stopped by here for a few beers a couple of months ago. It's a simple bar with a few TV's. Good to have a few drinks with a friend while watching a game. Nice fun place with many delish beers to wash down the yummy pubgrub. Here are some things i have learned from eating here: 1. Sit in the back part, unless you are watching the game. If you are sitting in the section near the bar, the waitress will forget you exist. Somehow, this doesn't apply to the back garden. 2. As the waitstaff if there is a special (2$ pint!). sometimes there is no special, sometimes its something you don't want to drink, but usually its fine! The special used to be written on the board by the front door, but i haven't seen it there recently. 3. DO NOT get the veggie burger. Its horrible. The portabello sandwich is good though, and so is the quesadilla. My carnivore sweetie swears by the williamsburger or the porkchop if superhungry. 4. Dont go here if you don't feel like running into people you know. Honestly, long lost friends from other parts of the country just seem to materialize next to you.
