I was on Amtrak when we flew by this place and I saw the mooners! I thought it would be fun to visit this place and instantly regretted it! I entered the place and the smell was odd mixed with alcohol, and did not know what to make of it. It was later that I realize this smell was similar to the unclean restroom. I got a rude reception from the bartender when I asked for a non alcoholic beer and was told that I was a lightweight and should get a real man's drink. A nearby patron scowled at her. I insisted on what I wanted, and got nothing. After a bit I needed to use the restroom and was appalled but the lack of cleanliness. When I brought it up with the same bartender I got more indignation, so I walked out! Recommendations: Clean the place, USE AN AIRFRESHENER, replace rude employees. read more

My second visit, after a reasonably fun time 2 weeks ago. Bartender Lisa was there again. First time I found her spunky and "edgy"..this time she was argumentative and downright rude. I'm not a "local" so perhaps I have an aversion to mistreatment, which passes for playful banter in her mind. Definitely won't EVER come back after our "exchange" yesterday. Drinks are kinda expensive for a "dive bar", especially compared to much better dive bars I frequent in Long Beach and Lakewood area. Dive bar vibe is strong here. Place is nicely decorated and even a bit festive for Halloween. You can tell this place has a steady stream of regular locals. Not too much fancy craft beers getting served here, but all the staples of big beer are. Bartender is friendly and knows the customers. I've decided to take the long way home on the unbeaten path that I usually take. Drove by and there was some kind of ruckus going on sounded like Jerry Garcia revival. I said to myself did I just see a bunch of happy people lounging and dancing and inviting gold colored beverages? So I hung a u-turn and low and behold I wasn't seeing things. There was even a band! And a truck with the words tacos for troops inscribed on the outside. So I drove around back and I saw a waitress with the most beautiful eyes. I asked her if this was a private party or can I join in. She said Park your truck and come on in you're welcome to join. I had the best time of my life! For a dive bar that's in the middle of nowhere that houses one pool table, they really should have lower alchy prices. 2 pitchers came out to $27. At my fave dive bar, I can get 4 people drunk to the point where we are professing our love for each other in their parking lot for $50. The signs they have are fun and they having hanging bikes and a unicycle with a rudder...??? Haha, hilarious decorations and good entertainment. How do you fit a live band in that tiny space??? Stay awhile! The last time I spent a long, easy evening like this... sipping drafts, noshing from a food track, listening to a killer local band was in Austin, Texas... a lifetime ago. I could feel the history and soul in this place and it spilled out into the parking lot turned lounge. I'm not sure how long the outdoor space has been a thing, as the inner sanctum is pretty rad, but it struck just the right note for me with its hay bale seats cozied up with Mexican blankets, string lights, friendly patrons, a few adorable pups, attentive and distractingly beautiful servers, LIVE music, tasty food to soak up the suds and enough room to stretch out, swap stories, share a laugh and lose yourself for the night. read more

I came here to support my friend's band, the HOGs, not knowing what to expect. For a dive bar, this place was well lit and relatively bumpin' for a demographic of white 50-somethings. Older white folks sure know how to put away the alky and break it down on the dance floor! The patrons are pretty nice and sociable, too. My husband goes to Mugs Away after work. Finally I thought if give it a chance. It's definitely a dive bar and many of the customers are men. Surprise surprise. However I was pleasantly surprised to see that the second I walked in the bartender greeted me with sincerity and was super nice. They pour great drinks and I never feel that we are overcharged (as some reviews have mentioned) They have darts and one pool table as well as a great wood-burning fireplace. Now I find myself asking my husband to take me to Mugs Away. The jukebox is great and we always have such a great time. One of my favorite parts about going to Mugs is chatting with the other people - everyone is really friendly and down to earth. It does get more crowded on the weekends of course, but that's expected. Anne and Travis are my favorite bartenders and take great care of their customers. read more
