My kids got annual boot fittings. Gary previously did a great job. Several experiences in the past year have been awful. The new guys just aren't as good! Examples: We bought one pair of boots and custom beds that are painful and over sized. Brought in a boot for adjustment and they couldn't get it right. I brought in some skis for a simple core shot repair and tune. The repair was not flush with the base. There was tons of wax still on the ski. Yikes. I brought in touring skis with a dynafit binding and they refused to mount it because they did not have the right jig. Go get the jig! Or do it manually. My overall assessment is that this is a now ski store for blue skiers who want a convenient place to buy stuff. This is not a store where you're going to get technically excellent service.

So I came by, got the box and six loose booster packs... and pulled a Starlight overframe Shooting Quasar Dragon. I gave the box to my homie, and he wasn't so lucky with his pulls, unfortunately. I haven't been to Lefty's since 2022 (when The Grand Creators and Ghosts from the Past 2 were out), but I intend on returning for new YGO releases. My husband was looking at one of the staff looking for help, and the girl was like, "I work here too!" Insinuating that she is also available to help with questions, but maybe not with that attitude is appreciated! Why can't she say "oh, I can help you." But not at all. Definitely off putting. Sometimes I get the feeling they discriminate too, they give you a little attitude for asking questions and not buying. I agree with others that their prices are crazy, especially with them being a local store, they can price things better especially they have a great selection and the location is great. We always try to shop at small mom/pop shops cause we love the uniqueness of the stores and the variety they hold, but this is just not good. The feeling we get going in isn't welcoming and the attitudes, it's not worth it! We may not ever come back and give them business.

I will tell you why he's the best guy in town. George is a 2nd generation skate boot-maker. George designs the boot to fit the skaters foot. Not only that, but the materials he uses makes sure the boots are of the best quality and they are built to last. My skater went through 4 - 5 boots not because they fell apart, but because they advanced as a skater or her feet grew. George and his crew did a great job, from beginning to end, recommending blades as they grew and advanced in their sport, tweaking the fit just so, so that blisters and callouses did not set in and occasionally providing a sharpening when we were in a pinch! So here's the thing about SP-Teri - they are simply the best. Four pairs of skating boots in 20 some-odd years and I'm here to tell you if it is quality skates we're looking for, look no further than SP-Teri. George and his crew have seen so many skater's feet that they can diagnose and fix anything that goes on with their skates. They stand behind their product 100%. A trip to SP-Teri usually begins with a paper tracing of the skater's foot and then based on they type of skater (dance, recreational, pairs, for realz), a recommendation will be made on the type of skates. Then, usually in concert with the skater's coach, blades are selected and the crew sets about hand-making the skates custom for the skater. At the first fitting, the skater tries on the boots, sensitive areas (ankle bones, back sides, etc.) are blown out and "cooked" into place (no, literally cooked into place - he puts them in an oven and cooks your boots while you wait.) Then skate blades are mounted and there's another quick look-see to make sure they are even and then the blades are tightened in and we're ready to go! If, along the way there are any problems that crop up, the crew does their best using years and years of experience to get the skater gliding again. So, yeah, almost 20 years later, I highly recommend SP-Teri. They are local and all-American, they know what they are doing from generations of experience and they stand behind their products. We've been to others (once) but we came back because really, to us, no one compares.

The Bike Fit Earlier this year, I decided to get back into cycling after a long hiatus. I had been commuting on a 20-year-old steel bike, but quickly realized it was agonizing on rides longer than an hour. I worked with Ari at Bespoke to fix this. He patiently interviewed me, measured me, and used Retül pressure mapping to revolutionize my position. He modified my old bike, set me up with new shoes, and dialed in a saddle that finally worked. While the tech is impressive, Ari's instincts are sharper; I get the sense he could nail a perfect bike fit with just a tape measure and his eyes. Once I felt the difference, I wanted a new bike immediately. Ari actually urged patience. He encouraged me to ride the new fit for a few months--on my old bike, my trainer and on rental bikes--to validate the changes before we committed to a build. When i experienced back pain after some longer rides Ari realized it might not be a bike fit issue and referred to me to a bike focused physical therapist (Action Sports Medicine in Sausalito) who was able to accurately diagnose my situation and suggest exercises to remediate it, which worked! As a team they really changed my relationship to the sport. The Dream Bike The eventual build process was a true collaboration. I knew generally what I wanted, but Ari guided the specifics. I wanted a flagship machine and was willing to pay for it, but Ari consistently focused on value. He even talked me down from some unnecessary upgrades. In hindsight, his advice was always spot-on, avoiding the usual industry marketing hype. The result is a mixed-material Titanium and Carbon All-Road bike from Seven Cycles. I have two separate wheelsets (which Ari hand-built using Reserve carbon rims) to swap between road and gravel. We also collaborated on a custom scheme with Black Magic Paint in Portland, who perfectly color-matched the bottle cages and a Silca frame pump to the frame's carbon elements. The bike fits like a glove. I was out on a 6-hour ride recently and felt fresh enough to do six more. As a tinkerer, I've inspected the bike closely; the tolerances and assembly quality are flawless. Build Specs Frame: Seven Axiom (Ti/Carbon Mix) Groupset: SRAM Red AXS 2024 Fork: Parlee Gravel/Cross Fork (Custom Painted) Finishing Kit: Enve Paint: Custom by Black Magic Paint (Portland) Road Wheels: Reserve 34|37 (Hand-built by Ari) Gravel Wheels: Reserve 25|GR (Hand-built by Ari) Pump: Silca Impero (Custom Painted) Final Thoughts I noticed his computer background was Picasso's Guernica, which made sense--Ari is as much an artist as a master builder. Building this bike felt like an act of curation. Here is my advice for getting the best experience at Bespoke, which might carry over other custom builders people might work with as well: Responsiveness: Ari is incredibly responsive. He answered countless small questions during the build within hours. Don't hesitate to reach out; he makes time for you. Documentation: Keep a log. There are a hundred details in a custom build. Keeping your own notes and proactively sharing them ensures redundancy and prevents miscommunication. Collaboration: Working with Ari can be a gateway to the kind of bike building experience very few others can realize, but you are well served to be an active participant. Ari is a master, but treating this as a partnership rather than just a transaction yields the best results. Your engagement will pay off in the final product. I give Bespoke Cycles SF my highest recommendation. Ari didn't just build me a bike; he ushered in a new era of adventure in my life.
