There isn't really a lot of room just enough to hand launch up to 2 kayaks. There is also another location off Blanding Blvd to be able to access this same creek. **Just be aware of the I-295 bridge clearance during periods of high tide if you decide to head further up-stream. and DON'T forget your bug spray. Heading North from Collins Rd. the upper section of the river is a really enjoyable paddle. Lots of wildlife and mossy covered trees. The water is very placid and doesn't get rough until you get to the lower potions, half way between Collins Rd. and the 103rd street bridge. Due to the depth in the river's upper portion 15-25ft, there can occasionally be a lot of boat traffic. I tried to stay closer to the sides of the river as to not deal with wind and wake. Also just south of Tillie K. Fowler Park on the river there is several small creeks only 3 ft wide or wide enough for one kayak. That maze in and out of the brush, but ran out of time to explore all of these. One of the major things I wanted to check out were the big piles in the river just west of Yukon. There's a few rumors that perhaps the Navy had a submarine back there during WW1 or WW2. But nothing confirmed. The river is surely deep enough except around the 103rd street bridge where the water is only 6-8ft with silt. The fish weren't showing themselves like they sometimes do during flood tides, but we still got a few shots in. Paddling through the flats on a paddle board is the way to go. The sunrise tour was stunning -- truly the most beautiful time to be on the water as the birds and critters wake up. We're planning to book another tour to do the bioluminescence paddle at night as well. This sunrise tour is going on my list of best things to do in Jax -- it's truly NE FL at its best. Everything was super easy to book and Hayden had our gear ready and waiting to go, so we were able to get right on the water and see the full sunrise over the river.

There is a boat launch here but it is in a separate location of the canoe launch. After I arrived me and a buddy decided to head upstream to the West on Fishweir Creek. The paddle was about an hour and ten minutes and the turn around point is just past the Timuquana Rd. bridge. I think its pretty cool to paddle all the way up into some of these small creeks where the water depth is only 6 inches and you still have yet to bottom out your yak or canoe. The paddle back was around 50mins. **Just be aware that if you do decide to paddle to the East out into the Ortega River that the wind, waves and currents get a little rougher as it was also difficult paddling through all the boat wake as well. Lots of birds and other wildlife though on the creek. Seen tons Blue Heron and White Egrets, if your quiet enough you can get close enough for some great photos.

It has a small but pleasant nature walk, a kayak launch, a children's playground, an open field, adequate parking, and more. There is a private residence on the grounds, so please be mindful of that. All in all, Alejandro Garces Camp Tomahawk Park is a wonderful park and a great place in particular for the residents of this quiet side street. We need parks like this in our communities. This is a wonderful place to come in respite. I would definitely recommend a visit here, especially if you are in the neighborhood or anywhere in the general area. I will give it five stars as an overall rating. Go check it out for yourself, I am confident that you will not be disappointed.

She continued on by playing with my children but did not have a child with her. A boyfriend was standing and waiting outside of the vehicle just smoking cigarettes. It gave me an uneasy feeling that either she was on drugs or they were involved in trafficking. I have since not gone back. It is a nice park otherwise and it's unfortunate some people have to ruin a good thing. I would just be mindful when you come here with your kids.

Now the pros: Within 10 minutes you're out on the water. The employees are laid back and make the process simple. You can't beat the price for an hour or two of adventure. The cons: The staff don't give much instruction. They tell you when to be back and that's about it. The gentleman recommended which direction to head in but didn't say how far you could travel in that direction or anything to be aware of. He also didn't say what I know, which is the one direction has quite a strong current and the other doesn't. I saw a couple who clearly had no experience paddle boarding struggle to get out onto the water. Though it's a public creek it would be nice if the company swept the route daily to pick up trash. I kayaked by several boards with nails sticking up and lots of plastic bottles.

My boyfriend and I had received gift certificates from my parents for two full moon kayak tours…read more They had met the owner Dennis Thompson while camping at Hanna Park, and since we had been talking about getting outdoors and being more active, they decided to give us these tours. Since the full moon comes only a few times a year, we had to wait a little bit until our schedules lined up and we had a free weekend. Dennis had us meet him at Seminole Park in Ortega, and he provided everything for our tour: kayaks, life jackets, emergency whistles, waterproof bags, flashlights, headlamps, and even snacks and drinks! He was super friendly and very informative. We went with another couple that had signed up, and it was a beautiful tour. Dennis chatted the whole way, giving us interesting facts about the area, talking about how he set up this tour, and what all he has seen in the fifteen years of business. We had so much fun, and the moon was beautiful over the river! The tour lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes, and we didn't feel exherted or tired aftewards. It was relaxing, unique, and one of our best experiences in Jacksonville. If you don't want to do a tour, Dennis has a small spot located at Hanna Park, with rentals there as well. I was recently in the area for a bachelorette party and we were looking for something outdoorsy to do that would be fun for our whole group. I am so glad we found this! Our group ranged in kayaking ability levels from quite adept to never-set-foot-in-one (me). Despite this, everyone in our group had a great time! For the newbies like me, you have nothing to be nervous about! I was pretty freaked out when I first got into the kayak, but our guides, Madeline and Rachel, were pros at making us all feel comfortable and prepared for the tour. The kayak is very easy to move around the water, and with just a few minutes of practice, I felt comfortable enough to start moving down the river. The guides will go at whatever pace the group wants to move. They are also very familiar with the river, and were able to point out a lot of cool plants and animals along the way. They even took us past the river's resident gator - from a safe distance! The tour lasts about 2 hours. I will admit that the last 20 minutes were the hardest for me, as my arms got pretty tired by then. But the more, ahem, athletic members of our group were totally fine. Despite this, I would absolutely recommend Amelia Adventures to anyone. Definitely check them out!
