Today the Mulch Company delivered and installed great mulch around extensive landscaping and garden areas (with more to do later). Great guys doing the work! This is a very professional company. I contacted The Mulch Co a few weeks ago for 10 yards of top soil. They scheduled delivery for a Friday so I took off work. Friday came and went, no-show. At about 3pm, I called the company and got the "we were just about to call you" answer. Of course, the truck broke down on the way to my house. Rather than be a jerk to the lady on the phone, I asked when they could deliver my soil. She called back a few hours later and said Tuesday morning. Well, I am posting this on Tuesday evening at almost 6pm, no delivery and no phone call from the company. I've ordered mulch from them for the past few years and haven't had an issue. This is an issue I cannot get over since I planned last weekend around getting my delivery. Now I have scheduled time off work for this week and of course, still no soil. My wife just called The Mulch Company about getting 15 yards of top soil and compost delivered for us and our neighbor. The price on their website says $25.00 a yard for either compost or top soil. When my wife called to place the order she got voicemail that says "for pricing information please see our website". When they called back my wife placed the order. However, when she called me at work and told be the total something didn't sound right. When she called back she was told that they recently just changed their prices and they only make corrections to the website once a year. So I called and left a message. The owner called back and I asked him if he would honor his prices on his website and he said " no". He then proceeded to give me his resume about how he's been in business for twenty five years and it's not his problem that he not an expert in computers. He proceeded to talk over me instead of having a reasonable discussion. I do no reccomend the Mulch Company of Fredericksburg to anyone if this is the way they conduct business. read more

We ordered 24 yds of mulch. We knew how much was needed after getting estimates from other companies. Guys arrived on time. Spread mulch across front and part of back. Then they closed up the bed of the truck with a lg pile of mulch still inside. 2 beds were not covered. When questioned, the foreman said he would do us a favor and cover the small bed.... we called the office, few minutes later truck was opened and rest of mulch spread! We called back asking the owner to call us. Never called. Now, was this a company scam? Or were the guys hoping to make a few bucks on the side? Either way, untrustworthy. read more

I saw their excellent deal on mulch delivered and spread and was skeptical. I then read the few available reviews, one by a sour-grapes, Lemony Snicket posted here on Yelp, and thought maybe it was too good to be true but since we use a lot of mulch I rolled the dice to save some $$$. Big payoff! Customer service was friendly, crew arrived promptly and finished hours earlier than expected. Quantity delivered was accurately measured and mulch was high quality without any weird debris. Now my yard looks great, wife is happy and my back doesn't hurt! ordered the online special, 6 yards for $275. I have mulched this yard for 16 years front and back. It takes between 5 and 5 1/2 yards every time. Mulch Co "allegedly" delivered 6 yards and spread it. Didn't even cover the entire front yard, let alone the back. DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM. THEIR MEASUREMENTS OF CUBIC YARDS ARE GROSSLY INACCURATE. read more

Jonathan Kula in the last week A series of unfortunate events... As a summary: I was told by Mulch Co that I needed about twice as much soil as I actually needed. Hence I wasted between $500-$700 on materials and delivery. When I called them on it I was completely ignored, despite the urgency of needing the excessive mulch removed from my ditch line. I was then told by the owner that it would cost $500 to remove the soil I was already overcharged for. I relied on their 'expertise' to tell me how much soil was needed and was misled. Now my grass is dying, my HOA is angry with me, and to get it removed is another costly expense. Extortion, anyone? My next step is Yelp, then the BBB, then my attorney. Still interested in details? See below. 1). Called the Mulch Co in July 2016 to determine how much Topsoil/Compost I would need to complete my lawn repair. They told me, based on the square footage, 45 cubic yards. 2). 5 large loads of topsoil/compost were delivered, on time, and in the correctly designated locations. It was then spread 1 inch thick. 3). After spending a total of 34 hours spreading this mulch over the entire area previously measured, 2.5 loads were still left. 4). I called the Mulch Co. to see what could be done. Katie, the receptionist, told me that I would receive a call back. 5). I received NO call back, had to call repeatedly over the course of the next 10 days, left several messages which were not answered, and ultimately had to call from an entirely DIFFERENT phone number. 6). Finally, while calling from a 757 area code, Katie answered, and said that the messages 'must have been lost or something'. She was going to inform Ray Raines, the owner, of my predicament. 7). No call from Ray was received. I left a message once again 3 days later, and said that I was going to complain online, and suddenly I get a call from Katie. I said that I wanted to speak to Ray, and called the number. 8). After three attempts, Ray answered and a discussion ensued. He told me that there was no way that there was too much soil delivered. He said each truck holds up to 12 cubic yards maximum. [Keep in mind, with 5 loads, that is a maximum of 60 cubic yards. I ordered 45.] He also said that it would cost him at least $500 to take up the soil, but failed to mention that he had already earned $1400 from the sale of the soil that he OVERSOLD me. I asked him to at least drive by and tell me what he could do. He said he would. To date he has not, despite my calls. 9). My next step is Yelp, then the BBB, then my attorney. Any bills from my HOA will summarily be passed on to Mulch Co. My satisfaction will be achieved when Mulch Co. removes the excess soil, repairs the damage that their equipment would make in doing so, and issues a refund for the purchase of the extra soil. However, based on current experience, I doubt this will be achieved. read more

If zero was an option, I would be giving them zero stars. Ordered mulch to be delivered as their first delivery of the day. Katie told me we were first on the schedule and they'd be there at about 9am. Called at 10:30am to check. Suddenly story is they only guarantee the day not approximate time. Fine - I ask for an estimated time. She says she'll call me back. At 1:30 pm I call and leave a message to follow up. Katie calls back at 2:30 to say they are on their way and should be there by 3:30. It's now 7:30pm and still no mulch, yet they've charged me for it. So glad we took the day off of work to get this done. Do not waste your time. Quail Ridge may cost a little more but service is worth the extra expense. read more

Never had an issue in the past, but for some reason this past time was a cluster. Mulch was to be delivered on a Monday, got a call late Monday afternoon saying there was an issue with the truck, would have delivery first thing Tuesday morning. Mulch not delivered until Tuesday afternoon, with 1/3 in the grass and not driveway ( I suppose this was because of car in driveway considering we didn't think mulch was coming and never got a return call on Tuesday.) To boot, truck leaked fluid all over driveway and left with no attempt to clean-up by driver. When wife called owner, his answer was basically "what do you want me to do about it?" Will not use or recommend in the future. read more

On May 26th they delivered 12 yards of mulch to my home, which I prepaid for. While delivering the mulch the dump truck driver drove into my yard and managed to get his truck stuck up the the axles in the mud. The owner arrived at my house and attempted to pull the dump truck out with a chain using his hummer. This further damaged my lawn and drove the rear wheel further into the ground. A tow truck was called and the tow truck driver used a wench to remove the tow truck from my yard. During this whole incident the only communication I received was initiated by me. I never received an apology for the incident. While the owner was in my yard he simply asked me if the driver told me the company policy was to not leave the driveway. I told him the driver never said that, he then walked away and drove off my property. The hole left in my yard is 2 feet deep, 10 feet long, and 2 feet wide. When the owner finally called me after several request to fix my lawn he was extremely rude and refused to discuss the events that occurred he just yelled over me and refused to discuss things like a professional. He refuses to fix my lawn saying the driver told me he may damage my lawn. My receipt clearly states to drop at the side gates. The driver was negligent in driving on my lawn after rain, the owner was negligent for doing the same thing, the owner, Ray Raines is very unprofessional and in my opinion does not know how to treat customers. When your company damages someones property you fix it. If your company policy is don't leave the driveway why is it not your responsibility to pay for the damage your driver did when they broke your company policy? Don't trust this man!
