They've been around for a while and I mostly stop by for St Patrick's day, but I've also stopped by just for beers and appetizers. It's a hole-in-the-wall type bar with crowded seating inside and some outdoor seating as well. The service is typical bar type with gruff guys and friendly gals. It's hit or miss with speed of service and sometimes you have to grab their attention. Like many places, it's usually understaffed. I love the Irish beers they have on tap. both Guinness and Smithwicks are some of my favorite beers. The food is what brings the rating down. The fish and chips and other Irish dishes are just ok and don't have much flavor. I know Irish food isn't famous for being delicious, but I have had some really good dishes at other places so I know it can be done. read more

To my husband's dismay, this Irish pub doesn't serve Irish (or any) whiskey, a staple of Irish pub culture. At first, we questioned if we should stay, as the initial vibe wasn't welcoming. However, it wasn't long before our positive-&-energetic bartender made our experience a fun time, making us new-comers feel like locals! The support staff was very diligent and efficient (they just didn't smile, at all, during our time there). My husband found the Shepherd's Pie on the sweeter (vs. preferred savory) side. I haven't ordered Fish & Chips in years; I was not disappointed; their Fish & Chips were generous-sized planks and satisfyingly delicious, especially with malt vinegar! Long time fan of Mulleady's. Service is always impeccable. The food is unassuming and always good. However, their support of the local community is what really makes this place special. There is zero reason why they should let me take a table to camp out. When Portola Hills was dealing with planned power outages, I was in need of power and internet. They welcomed me. I wasn't going to be a huge spend since I wasn't drinking or ordering a lot of food. That didn't matter. They understood my plight and gave me refuge. Ok. Was craving some good ol' Irish food. Read all the 5 Star reviews, so had to go. Always very busy and full of patrons in and outside. Well ... what can I say. It took 15 minutes before we were waited on. Then that took 15 minutes to receive our drinks. After another 10 minutes, we were asked if we wanted to eat (though we were given menus after drinks arrived). We finally each ordered a cup of the "homemade" clam chowder, fish fry, and the "signature" corned beef dinner. and were asked if we wanted the chowder served first. Yes! So after waiting 15 minutes for that, we finally asked about the clam chowder, and were told it "has to be made to order. Our kitchen is smashed tonight." Hmmm. Once the chowder finally arrived, it was absolutely nasty. Campbells soup. Literally. We reluctantly ate the soup because we were starved. Once food did arrive, my fish fry was, I must say, delicious. But the other party ordered the corn beef and cabbage with carrots and potatoes. Bland, no flavor, dried out. Mostly a blob of fat. And a tablespoon of juice from the corned beef, yellow mustard (what?). Terrible. I would say this establishment is foremost a bar (no liquor license--wine and beer only) that wants to be an Irish restaurant or "grill." Great place to hang with friends and have beers and finger food, watch sports (because the TVs were crazy loud so you could barely hear yourself). But dinner--definitely no. When we did get service, the bartender/waiter was friendly and pleasant. But you had to try and hang onto his words carefully because he spoke as if on multiple cans of Red Bull. Lol! Our dishes also sat on the table for nearly 15 minutes before we flagged the waiter for our bill. If you want to catch some sports and drink a few--definitely go. Otherwise, never again. read more

The art of an Irish pub is so delicate in the US but this place is delightful. It was a favorite when I was spending a lot of time in Mission Viejo, CA. Literally anything you order will be made in house on the spot and be authentic in all the right ways. I distinctly remember the patty melt and a fun couple that had recently married and worked together there. I spent a couple St. Patty's days there when I was missing the large celebrations on the East Coast, namely NYC and Jersey City, NJ. Service was impeccable and the restaurant was always clean, warm and inviting. I took my neighbors to dinner here last night as I kept telling them how great it was. Food was outstanding as always but the service was terrible. After our meals arrived we sat for a good 30 minutes waiting for the server to ask if we wanted any refills or dessert. We asked a busboy to get our check. My neighbors thanked me for paying for the dinner but said they would never go back due to the poor service. I won't be telling anyone about them after being embarrassed. read more

This used to be my local watering hole and congregation ale spot to shoot shit with friends and homies but since moving out of the area and changing direction with my health, discontinuing drinking alcoholic beverages and now I only strictly go here for the pub food dishes. My all time favorite is when I crave corned beef and cabbage especially during Pre-Easter. The ambiance is very quaint & personal, but during special sports events like a televised Super Bowl, March Madness, NHL, NBA finals will attract a huge crowd but the service retains good customer service. read more

We sat in the lovely outside court area and we both got The Basic Breakfast. It came with two eggs, your choice of a side of meat, breakfast potatoes, and a cup of fruit and toast. This friendly neighborhood bar is located in a shopping center and has both indoor seating and a covered outdoor patio. It was a cold winter evening so I opted to sit inside at the bar. The barkeep was cordial and attentive. I ordered a Stella on tap plus a corned beef sandwich with fries. The wait was short for the sandwich; meanwhile there were plenty of TVs tuned to various sporting events to keep my attention as well as a cold beer. The sandwich was quite good yet simple: tender chunks of corned beef covered in melted mozzarella cheese and yellow mustard between slices of marbled rye. The only disappointment was the crust on the toasted bread was tough as shoe leather.
