How cute is this little ice cream/fudge shop! We were itching for something sweet and walked past this darling store. They were making the waffle cones fresh, you never see that! So of course we had to try one. We got a scoop of the turtle cheese cake and petoskey pothole. They were perfectly creamy and the flavor just bursted in your mouth. We also got a caramel apple for the little, they certainly weren't disappointed. The store felt like a blast from the past with an antique and classic feel. The service was polite, well organized and kind. I want to go back and try more ice cream flavors and fudge! If you're in town on a hot day, definitely stop in this ice cream store! read more

Vacation=Ice Cream My friend and I each got two scoops. She had the coconut flavor and said it was amazing. I had one scoop of mint something with oreos but that's not the point. The point is...BUMPY CAKE ICE CREAM. My taste buds were having a difficult time even processing this incredible experience. This is probably the best ice cream I've ever had. Stopped by this Murdick's for ice cream after a date night in Petoskey... It's a small store but offers (almost all) of the Northern MI favorites from flavored popcorn, saltwater taffy, fudge, turtles and ice cream. Service was friendly and servings are large! Pricing seems reasonable too. I went for a child size sugar cone of the Black Bear Ice Cream and it was more than enough. It's not the best ice cream by any means, but it does the job. Sidenote: I recall a "sugar loaf" fudge flavor from my youth that they didn't have at this Murdick's during our visit... If my memory serves, it is vanilla fudge with m&ms. If you see that, don't miss it! Either way, if you find yourself in Petoskey with a sugar craving or need for a sweet treat, you can't go wrong with a visit to this Murdick's. read more

We might as well call my most recent vacation my fudge vacation because I ended up getting fudge from three different places: Kilwins, Frankenmuth Fudge Kitchen, and Murdick's. I've had Kilwins and FFK before but never Murdick's, and honestly, Murdick's is the best deal: they have a buy two slices, get one free deal, and we also got 10% off because of our Bluegreen / Boyne bracelets (which we received because we stayed there). I think it ended up being about $17 for the three slices, vs. like $11 for one slice in Frankenmuth later in the day. I took a bite of the chocolate cherry fudge I bought just now and it was really good, too, so they get five stars from me. read more

We come up to Petoskey every summer and always look forward to our fudge fix. We tried Murdick's and we were beyond disappointed! We bought three slices: chocolate peanut butter, chocolate caramel sea salt, and cookies and cream. The chocolate peanut butter and the chocolate caramel sea salt were as hard as bricks. They were sweet but not at all chocolate tasting. Fudge should be smooth and creamy. This fudge was most definitely NOT fresh. We usually go to JoAnn's in Mackinaw City, but we thought we'd just hit up Murdick's while we were in Petoskey. Never again. read more

This is the note I just sent in response to my recent shipment of fudge: I'm born and raised in Michigan and have eaten nearly every brand available, including the many who use the Murdick's name. My favorite was always Charlevoix Murdick's and was sad to see it close many years ago. Anyway, without sounding mean spirited, I'd like you to know that the fudge you just sent me is by far the worst fudge I've ever eaten from anywhere in Michigan. Literally not worth the calories. I don't know what corners you're cutting with this product and its ingredients but it's not worth it. PS...it arrived in a beat up dirty USPS box with reused packing materials and a hand written note from another customer. You'd think in the food service business they'd take cleanliness more seriously. read more

When you walk in waiting to be helped for two minutes and then a couple walks in the door and gets waited on immediately. That is not customer service. That sucks. And if you cannot handle the counter and help people in order, you shouldn't be working there. So I went to Kilwin's. I got help immediately. You have lost my business for life. Quaint, historical fudge shop with homemade fudge and equally amazing caramel corn. Very friendly staff and direct access to Pennsylvania Park and seating outside. Their Double Nut Caramel Corn is my favorite and the ice creams are made on-site in small batches. Love it. read more

This shop is on my must do list every time we are Up North. They had me the first time I visited and the owner offered me a sample of freshly made caramel corn that was cooling on the marble table. Muddy Mackinac ice cream = WOW, delicious! Friendly service too.

I have never seen Mackinac Fudge Ice Cream with chunks of real fudge as big as Murdick's incorporates into their ice cream. What a pleasant surprise. And thats just one flavor. Outstanding ice cream and judging from how it melts, this is the real deal, not the chemical laden stuff filled with cellulose and other additives found in all but one or two brands in grocery store freezers. The ingredients are tops based on freshness, lack of additives, etc., If you visited or attended Harvard, MIT other schools near Cambridge you can claim your Toscanini's Ice Cream is the world's best, as would the people who rate Basset's in PA the best. But Murdick's in Petoskey is every bit as good if not better - for the flavors they offer albeit significantly fewer flavors. read more

Homemade ice cream!!! Always a fan of local ice cream shops when traveling. Murdick's Fudge had approximately 20 flavors to choose from with the majority being homemade. I tried Mac tracks (vanilla ice cream + peanut butter cups + chocolate) and the cocunut ice cream (with almonds). Both are great options. Its in a great location within town having a entrance facing the street and another entrance facing the park (with picnic tables) to sit and enjoy your ice cream. Late hours as well, so we were able to stop by after having dinner. read more

Creamy, sweet raspberry with chocolate chunks. Wow. You may be tempted by other close-by shops, but don't pass by Murdick's. I've never made is past the ice cream to get to the fudge. We hit Charlie's/Sherman's almost daily when we are in Saugatuck. It's nice to have a similar "go to" place up north. read more
