Came here to see Me'shell Nedegeocello play. Walking up... you would only know it is the location by a stand out front with the name and the artists showcasing This place appears like a synagogue/temple/church. Stadium seats but with stain glass windows Bought affordable ticket which was assumed it was a standing room . But when you walk in- you can sit in any seat you wish . Early bird gets the worm. I was able to snatch a seat in the center at 2nd row. Had perfect view. Seats are super tight. The guy next to me was taking up almost half of MY chair No food or drink allowed in theater other than water ( I think) ...I mean it's a synagogue lol I didn't use the bathroom and I didn't see any concession stand This was my 3rd time seeing Me'shell perform and they were in very intimate spaces where the acoustics were super crisp. She was great but the air conditioning was on majority of the time and it was overpowering the sound unfortunately. Also - there were several technical issues for her like the power to her instruments. She was a good sport but this shows that this location needs to work on these issues to makes sure the shows go well I mean the price was affordable but that doesn't make up for the issues at hand. They would really have to work on them before I come back to see a show here again. read more

This is a former synagogue with excellent acoustics. The stage is lifted just about 3 feet so that, even from the first row, it is easy to see what is happening on stage. read more

Theatre in what seems to be an old synagogue/school. Very cool to see the stained glass and wooden carving on the ceiling -- the acoustics were great too. Points that the GA balcony section had seats! We got there an hour early because we weren't sure what the seating situation would be. Lots of GA in NYC is standing room only. The seats were small but still, there were seats. Overall the venue was pretty cold though which was tough for a winter show. The "bar" downstairs had the same amount of alc/non-alc options which I appreciated -- three kinds of Liquid Death and 2 kinds of Athletic NA beer. read more

Very unusual venue. The room is a synagogue sanctuary. The only sign outside is a very small portable sign. The location is exactly where your GPS will take you, so finding the venue is not a problem. The orchestra seats are comfortable and there is a good amount of legroom. The sound is not perfect, but not too bad. The rest rooms are small. They do sell beer & wine that you can take to your seat (they also sell water). read more

Echoing the reviews others have left: this is an odd venue with a misleading exterior. A lot of people come for rock shows, I came for a chili cook-off. The Chili Takedown has been going strong for I think over ten years, it's usually at small music venues or bars. This time it was at Murmrr, which is located in a synagogue. I am very curious to know if the owners of the place were cool with all the pork products in the chili, because they were not cool with alcohol being served. This is the first Takedown I've attended that was dry. Nothing was mentioned on the ticket about this, and that's an issue with the organizers of the event, not the establishment. It wasn't really a big deal for me, but there were quite a few "Murmrrs" about it. The event was on the third floor. You enter a smaller room, which had nothing in it except for a "bar" that served sparkling water and La Croix and other nonsense. Everything else- the chefs, the few tables, and the attendees were packed into a room that was smaller than a lot of the venues they usually use. Why not add more tables in the room you're not selling booze in? Again, not sure if this was the organizers or the synagogue's doing, but the whole thing just wasn't the same and needed more space. I ate chili and left as soon as I was done, have no idea who won. I guess the synagogue needed to do something else than be a house of worship in order to survive, everyone in this city is getting their side hustle on. That being said, I don't think I would come back here for another event. read more

My husband and I attended A Night in The Village with Trevor Hall. Trevor Hall was fantastic as always. The venue, however, is awful. Who knew that Murmrr was inside The Union Temple of Brooklyn? There was no mention of it on their website. We noticed the line of people. We saw a small outside sign that showed who was playing. It doesn't say Murmrr. No one directed us to our seats. It was a free for all in a dark room. How are you supposed to see the seat numbers in the dark? We were confused. We had tickets in the "Golden Circle". You would think for the extra money we paid for it, we would be sitting in the center. Nope. We were off to the side with speakers blocking our view. What the heck? Those seats were terrible and uncomfortable! They should have been the cheapest seats. You're not allowed to bring drinks into the theater area so you have to chug your beverage outside before you go inside. If any of my favorite musicians play there again, I would pass and travel to a different venue. read more

What a weird venue. So, it's really hard to find because it's inside of a temple but there's literally zero mention of that anywhere. Not on the website, not in the temple, not in the email confirmation. You're welcome. I saw a podcast taping in the Ballroom, which is the smaller venue. Seating was folding chairs and first come first serve. They do have limited concessions served out of chafing dishes and accept credit cards. I paired my smoked Gouda mac n cheese (surprisingly good) with Rosé (boxed). Don't use the elevator. Trust me. read more

Went to "Murmrr Theater", as it's being called, to see one of my favorite bands (Diiv) perform an acoustic set. I hadn't heard of the venue before and its location seemed a little strange given the kind of places Diiv performs in. Once we arrived, we discovered that this building is, in fact, a temple - The Union Temple of Brooklyn. The inside space is gorgeous and it features both a balcony and a separated ballroom style lounge where you can hang out at one of five round tables. But it doesn't work as a live rock music venue. We were all assigned seats and nobody was standing up, much less attempting to move to the music at all - it was one of the strangest things I've ever experienced. The kicker - they sold alcoholic beverages, but you couldn't bring them into the show itself. Even stuffy Broadway theaters now allow you to bring your beverage from the lounge area into the theater proper nowadays. What gives? I would come back for a classical concert, play, or something else that requires a quiet audience and an assigned seating arrangement. This is a frustrating place to see a rock show. read more

I give this place 4 stars only because i saw a great musician Billy Corgan, who played piano, guitar and harmonica. Enjoyed Sunday night as he played a solo on stage for his solo tour. We got last minute tickets which im so thankful for! However the venue is weird since its for none rock music so noone could stand or shout and sing along. Then again its inside of a temple so nothing crazy. I had wine but $8 for old chardonnay that tasted stale, seems its been in the freezer for months.. I wouldn't recommend for live bands read more

The sound is fine but the place had it's heat blasting despite it being a beautiful Fall night but even more frustrating - the door to the theater squeeked loudly and they kept letting people come and go throughout the entire show, constantly interrupting a beautiful, acoustic set by the one and only William Patrick Corgan (aka Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins) which almost ruined the first hour of the show. If you're going to bill yourself as an intimate theater then please set some ground rules and only open the doors in between songs and please, fix your squeaky door so we can hear the music! This place has potential but they need to get it together.... read more

Show was shut down early from the cops over a noise complaint. Seems there are some issues with the neighbors. Very unfortunate because the owner bought us a drink after the show was shut down a little early and seems to be a very nice and level headed guy. He calmed everyone down and explained the situation. I really hope the issues with the neighbors can get sorted or he can move locations because he has great acts coming through and I think the setting was great. Especially since I am lazy and love the seats! read more

The venue is a temple which is not made for rock concert and is a real nuisance for building and family all around. The place has to open windows because the place is so hot. Too bad the program looks good. read more

Love living in Prospect Heights/Park Slope, but the lack of live music is a big problem. With the closing of so many iconic independent music venues in Brooklyn, it's hard to find something so unique in this gentrified neighborhood. That being said, Murmrr is a lighthouse on a hill. From spoken word to electronic to hiphop, avant-garde, blues, rock, Americana....the programming is dope AF. The sound and theatre is gorgeous. read more

Very unique space on the third floor of a synagogue. Went here for more or less a private party and had a great time. The organizers had arranged for wine and beer offerings in the lobby. Bathroom is located the floor below. Good acoustics in the room. All in all a great experience and an interesting venue in an otherwise quiet community neighborhood on Eastern Parkway. read more

Very strange venue. It's in a synagogue which is a cool concept but the sound quality was really poor. The level of security is really lacking given it's a religious space AND a concert venue. I don't plan to go back. read more

When you walk inside the lobby of the theater, they advertise where a bar is located. But little do you know, you're not allowed to bring beverages inside the theater and you're only told as you attempt to enter the theater. So that's the first frustrating experience. The next frustrating experience was inside the theater. Due to the fact that you can't bring beverages inside the theater, everyone drinking was forced to stand in the lobby area causing a lot of noise. The bouncers kept the door open between the lobby and the theater so it was a completely distracting experience for everyone inside the theater. I would NOT return here. read more

Great bookings so far. A beautiful looking venue and the sound is excellent as well. It's true that you can't bring alcohol into the theater which is annoying but not the end of the world. This place really makes for a unique concert experience. If you want yet another bowery ballroom type venue in NYC, you can find it elsewhere. read more
