I recently had the chance to attend the opening preview night of The Maids here and I was thoroughly impressed by the whole venue from the warmth and professionalism of the staff, the offering of drinks and snacks at the bar before the performance, and also my amazing seat which was 3rd row middle center - the perfect view. All seats looked to have great views in general, perhaps the side view seats a bit harder but with the way the staging is set up it's easy to be able to get a good view. The acoustics are also great, amplifying the actresses voices well and thus is also located right under the Brooklyn Bridge, so lots of fun restaurants and things to do in the area before a show. Highly recommend if you want a different change of pace from the Broadway lights. read more

Some friends and I visited St. Ann's Warehouse for a performance of Anna Christie this past Saturday, and I really loved the venue. While, St. Ann's has only been in this particular location - a historic tobacco warehouse in Brooklyn Bridge Park - since 2015, the performing arts center has a longer history - dating back to the 1980s (when an old church was converted into a venue for classical music concerts). This new location was renovated beautifully, and it's a great space for a variety of arts events. For our play, the seats (a sort of fancy bleacher setup that works for theater) we arranged in three sections around a stage, but the seating can be changed depending on the needs of the event. The seats were comfortable and had a great incline - we were in the back row and I'm just over five feet tall, and I could see everything - no obstructed views at all. The theater space is open and minimal - it can become anything. The rest of the building was great as well - a great bar, a bathroom with lots of clean, modern stalls... The styling of the theater is very cool as well and so was the customer service of everyone who we spoke to during the performance we attended. In this 2025-2026 season, St. Ann's had several shows I was interested in (there are still two left in the season), and the theater definitely attracts interesting productions and film/tv/theater stars looking for interesting non-Broadway theater opportunities. I'm excited to attend another production in the future. read more

What an amazing space! So open and full of light! Lots of lobby seating. The staff are so kind and helpful. A nice little bar with courteous and prompt staff. You can get nice little cocktails and canned booze here, or non-alcoholic drinks of course. And little snacks. Of course you're paying a premium, but that's anywhere. Located on the gorgeous waterfront in Dumbo, so you can see the bridges and stroll the park. Lots of restaurants, food markets, and shopping nearby. I came to see Dark Noon. The show evolved as an idea of "the European gaze on Africa." Most of the cast are Black South Africans. It touches on colonization, apartheid, the casting of Black and indigenous people as villains or murders. My favorite part was the very end, when the actors told their stories. How they grew up in South Africa. How and when they were exposed to Westerns. How apartheid has affected them. It was poignant, funny, and also sad. The venue is small, so there really isn't a bad seat in the house. I chose to sit in the "goldrush" seats, which were only 34 dollars, MUCH cheaper than the other tickets, but to me, was the best seat in the house. The goldrush seats were bench seats on the floor level, part of the stage, and actors could interact with you or pull you into the play itself. The other seats were regular seats with backs. The bench seats were not uncomfortable to me at all. St. Ann's warehouse has a broad array of shows available, touching on many topics, covering many cultures, many genres. There is drama, sci-fi, shows with puppets, musical concerts. I'm glad the instagram algorithm locked me in with this one. I loved Dark Noon and I will now be on the lookout for their future productions. read more

St. Ann's Warehouse is also well kept and they have a nice bar that is open throughout the show for any of you red nosed theater goers. My buddy/neighbor and I went to see "Monsoon Wedding" - the musical playing at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn, NYC Was so thrilled to see a live and vibrant South Asian Musical produced by Mira Nair. I like how she said.."if we don't tell our stories, no one else will"... If you can't see the show then definitely watch the movie y'all. I did not know St. Ann's Warehouse existed in Brooklyn. It's such a cool warehouse that was transitioned into a theater. To be honest it does not matter where you sit in the theater you will have a nice view of the stage. The setup in this theater is really wonderful. After the show you can exit through the gardens. Imagine all this beauty is in Brooklyn, NYC. They also have a food court, but I did not explore it this time around. They have a nice seating area where you can enjoy a drink or a quick bite. The folks at the box office are friendly and chilled. They are so helpful with questions considering we purchased our tickets like 2 minutes before the show. read more

Home from Anna Christie It's funny how harsh the critics were. Even the NYT which seemed to be the only reputable source to like the play made an awkward aside to a hissing fog machine in their tiny little review. Who gives a living fuck. Aren't we allowed to enjoy things? The dialect and accent work was tremendous // made me want to pile through the O'Neill original on the page and see how he captured it all. A wave crashed into the performance when we were seduced by the Irishman's talk, or I was seduced. Not because I'm particularly lustful toward the Irish, but because it offered me the internal bragging rights I enjoy when I understand two foreign language speakers' conversation next to me on a subway platform. It's just off English, I guess it was English // it was English if you can call the Irish English, and they hate that. He spoke English is as if the woodblock idioms tumble around inside a large echoey barrel, one so empty of its whiskey or beer or whatever that you're in that kind of nihilistic utopia we all occupy at the end of the world. He was stateless and away at sea and his genius was that he articulated, overly articulated, turned all the soft consonants into hard ones, which I guess is why we could follow. He was radically transforming the language but never swallowed a syllable -- his character so full of brutal pride. Anyway that was just listening to the one guy, when really the three main actors did outstanding accent work ; his was just the hardest to understand. But I, polyglottal, I could understand it. Not sure why folks are so hard on Michelle Williams' performance when she clearly accomplished a powerful nuance. The NYT called it code-switching, which she totally did. Often mid sentence and mid thought, like someone who's never had the luxury of an audience for very long. More than once I remembered that Williams, who often scrunched her face into frustrating lines, was probably in her 40s, which is only awkward because they mentioned they character's age -- 20 -- so often. I mostly knew that Williams was older because I know enough of who she is that 40s make sense, like she's been around that long. Did she play Daisy opposite Leo DiCaprio in Baz Luhrmann's Gatsby? (Edit: Nope! Sorry.) The more I tried to imagine an actually 20-year-old actress or an actress who could pull off twenty -- Saoirse Ronan came to mindd -- the more I understood why they couldn't play this role. Anna Christopherson is an advanced part, fast and complicated. She developed a manner of speaking that's so devastating // Williams braided the desperation, the capitulation, and the fury together in beautiful fiery bursts, in thick criss-crossing accents that reflect the strange avenues by which she learned these contrary manners. That's not possible for someone in one of their first few serious roles. Also, it's important to give actresses over 40 lead roles, you jerks. The production itself was impressive, reminded me of my budget Shakespeare days, where in the name of authenticity you pretend you're making the auteurist choice to have no set. The Globe never built out their sets! These folks built it out a little, used modularity to their advantage. But, delightfully, they employed these beefy men to dance the set around the actors, often running dreamy choreography to carry a person or a block of wood offstage. Goofy but fantastical, enlivening, acceptable decoration on top of the cold gray themes. I liked it! I appreciate the realism in the script, how things work out how they would have in 1910, how the men behaved badly! Like they would have. And the women accept it, like they would have. I worry that the contemporary audience believes that a narrative is either won or lost by someone. Painfully American and AI-summarized. Get a life! Anna's inner child is angry and hurt that her father abandoned her and left her to be abused. She's not used to being surrounded by a family unit, but she meaningfully gained two family members by the end of the play. And even better, they won't be around all the time, so she has alone time to embody her newfound, contrived independence. Though it was painful to watch, Mat's violent reaction to news that she was a prostitute makes total sense. He has spent his life under the decks of a ship shoveling coal with a bunch of men, visiting prostitutes in port towns, and fantasizing about a purer life than the one he lives in the play's present. Injured and hungry at start-of-play, he projected his fantasy onto his new love, which is exactly what happens in every whirlwind romance. I feel fairly comfortable comparing his seafarer's behavior to machismo. And machismo does not like to be embarrassed. That's what he was in that scene -- embarrassed. Embarrassed men do awful things. And women, women who are ashamed of themselves, they forgive them. That does not mean they are a bunch of losers. Does it have to be a judgment? What a complicated slice of the pie. Bravo. read more

I went to see "The Hunt" all the seats are good, very intimate setting that you can see the stage well from everywehre. and the seats are very comfortable too. read more

Went to see Monsoon Wedding over Father's Day weekend. Fabulous production but an even better pre-theater experience. Box office staff was very helpful in attending to my limited mobility and answered many questions about access, parking, etc. Super impressive theater interior, great tech, and very gracious, ushers and security staff. But FYI: Dumbo neighborhood on a busy summer weekend is chaos. read more

I take groups from Illinois to New York to see theatre every year and always check to see if something is playing at St. Ann's Warehouse. We have been there many times, and I've never been disappointed. The staff has been helpful in arranging group tickets... and the shows...! I count on St. Ann's to balance out the Broadway shows with something that will make you think, see things from a new perspective, and perhaps even disturb you. Productions that we would never experience in Illinois, with phenomenal artistry. Even going to the theatre is an enjoyable experience. The staff is exceptionally friendly, the place is welcoming, and it makes for such a fantastic evening. Take the A train to High Street, walk through DUMBO, enjoy incredible views of the skyline and bridges, have some great food next door, see a phenomenal show, and then walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at night. I came up to see Monsoon Wedding--which was an absolutely fantastic production and well worth the trip from DC. Moreover, I was incredibly impressed by the level of service St. Ann's offered from the presale to theater experience itself. I was having some issues purchasing a ticket with a corporate discount, and they were so patient and helpful, both over email and the phone. Then when I got to the theatre, wow that space is gorgeous from the gardens to the brick and lobby. And again everyone was so helpful and friendly. And everything was so clean, even the bathrooms lol! Highly recommend this lovely space filled with lovely people. read more

This venue is quite nice! Upon entering we were greeted and pointed in the right direction. There's a little bar available while you wait. They serve you with recyclable cups, but there are no recycle bins that I fund. There are large restrooms available. Inside the theater it is quite nice seating. There were a couple of seats available near the front, and staff asked if we would like to be re-seated! Great service! We came to see "The Hunt" which starred Tobias Menzies (who played Prince Phillip in The Crown). The play covered a disturbing situation, but the acting and sets were wonderful. Way back in 1980, I saw a little poster touting a performance by a London drag troupe called "Bloolips". It was 5, I think, drag queens dressed so outrageously that I could not ignore them. So, I bought tickets to the Orpheum theatre and we went to see "Bloolips, Lust in Space". It was there it happened. I fell madly in love with performers with names like "Bossy Bette", "Lavinia Co-op" and "Naughty Knickers". The humor was sans four letter words, but full of flamboyance and outrageousness. Since that time, about every year or two, we saw the troupe at various venues and started bringing friends with us. Everyone got hooked and we ended up seeing Bloolips about five times throughout their years long run, in five different productions at five different venues. We saw outfits made of plastic tea strainers and other unusual items. We even saw Bloolips flopping around the stage in bacon and egg costumes on a sizzling skillet. Don't ask, you needed to be there. The lead performer of the troupe was a man called (tee hee) Bette Bourne, nee Peter Bourne. He had a flair and a fast witted talent the likes I had never seen on the drag stage. Bette was 40 years old back at the Orpheum in 1980, and I was 38. Before that time, he was a rather handsome young man, very involved in Gay rights, specifically a group called The Gay Liberation Front. A rather "in your face" tribe of pissed off Gays and Lesbians totally fed up with the often violent intolerance of Gays in the world. Last night, I had the outrageous good fortune to see Bette Bourne as himself at 70, doing a recreation of an actual interview conducted by playwright Mark Ravenhill who was playing himself. The play/documentary/interview is actually two acts long. By the time you're finished, you would have liked a third act to happen. The space at St. Ann's Warehouse, in Dumbo, Brooklyn is informal and a low staging area was a "pretend" room in Bette Bourne's London home. Furnished with a red area rug and luxurious Ikea furniture it was a stretch, but who cared. Bette repeated the interview aided by a large screen upon which various stills and videos were projected, documenting visually, Bette's life. The product of a loving mother and an abusive father, Bette emerged as a quite talented, witty actor. His delivery, seldom punctuated by four letter words, was funny, bittersweet and, sometimes, downright sad. Bette entertained with a few little numbers he performed on his various stages, this time accapella, with only his tapping foot to set the cadence. Not easy, but, after all, we're talking Bette Bourne here and it worked just fine, thank you. Bette wore a sparkling sequined top, tasteful lipstick, his own hair and some campy looking shoes with taps that he used in an impromptu dance routine, during which he quipped "and I'm seventy". Not unlike back in the 80s, at the Theatre for the New City , when he danced and said "and I'm almost fifty". There were a few people in the kind of strange audience mix for whom the show did not work. Well, tough titty. With Bette Bourne, what you are told you are going to get is what you get. And sometimes a double helping. All in all, I found the performance entertaining, sad and foremost, hilarious. The study of Bette's mother's death and the deaths of over one hundred of his friends and acquaintances from AIDS, was dearly bittersweet, thoughtfully executed and, mercifully, short. We left feeling like we had a last visit with an old friend. I, personally left feeling like I left an old lover. Thank you Bette, for years of the best medicine, laughter. This was a wonderful way to say adieu and god bless. And too bad you didn't notice me in the crowd all those years, we could have been an item. read more

New wide-open airy space on 45 Water (across from the original) is now on the East River near the lovely Jane's carousel (http://janescarousel.com/history/). Since the play featured was performed in the dead of winter we did not venture outside, but I am sure it will be perfect in the warmer months to enjoy the outside space and exquisite view of Manhattan. There is a small pre- & after-theater snack bar serving wine, beer, snacks. The actual theater/stage space is very high-tech, with excellent lighting effects and acoustics. The spectator seating is pretty comfortable, cushioned (non-folding), with perfectly non-obstructive views of the stage. The new St Ann's definitely has that "new theater smell" Much amusement observing everyone's confused expressions upon entering either the W or the M restrooms to see both sexes in side. Very clever design! The play, NICE FISH, directed by Claire van Kampen was hilarious! Her husband, the world reknown Shakespearean Actor, Mark Rylance was wonderful as always! Years ago, when I frequented this area, this building was a crumbling old relic with no roof! Now, it's metamorphosed into a state of the art theater with cutting edge arts programming! Came here on Sunday to see People, Places and Things, and I was blown away by both the production and venue. One of the reasons why the staging worked so effectively, was because of the flexibility in this black box theater. The stage was set up with audiences on both sides in stadium formation, essentially a mirror of each other. I loved the intimacy. I was in the last row, but it was not a bad seat and I could see everything very well. The only minus, is that by this design, sometimes bits of monolgues/dialogues got a bit muffled. The common areas is utilized very well. Lots of low and comfortable seating. Concessions had a good amount of refreshments. Bathroom stalls are plentiful, and the bathroom is designed efficiently and smartly with common washing areas (love the trough sinks!). Very cool blend of old and new. read more

I've been wanting to come here ever since I fell in love with Brooklyn. And that was more than 5 years ago. Fast forward and last week, I finally got to come experience this wonderful space. St. Anne's Warehouse features American avant-garde, international companies with distinction and highly talented, local emerging artists. My date bought 2 tickets to 4:48 Psychosis and got great seats, 3 rows from the stage. The seats are basically folded chairs and the seating area goes up and up, so no blocked view. The stage is very near you, you will feel part of the act. 4:48 Psychosis is a play written by the Brit Sarah Kane (who later killed herself). The whole play is in Polish with translations. The play deals with depression and suicide. It is not a feel-good anything. Be prepared to walk out in a daze. Don't worry, there are 2 bars very close by. I came here for a performance during the Under the Radar Festival. It's kind of a trek to get to if you don't live in the area but it is a great performance space. It's free format so they can change the seating lay-out if they want to. For the show that I saw the performer was in the middle with the audience on all 4 sides of the room. It's great for breaking the audience-performer barrier. The restaurant Rice serves refreshments so you can have a glass of wine before the show. One last thing: if you're there in the winter, bundle up. It gets really chilly in there. read more

Really awesome performance space in DUMBO. I went to see MISTERMAN starring Cillian Murphy, which was outstanding. The staff was great, the stage space was well-utilized, it was all very professional. My only complaint is that the seats, though very cushy, are a VERY tight fit. So you get to know your direct neighbors intimately during the performance. Anything more than 90 minutes would become very uncomfortable. I love having such amazing culture right in my backyard (literally, as I live in Brooklyn Heights). read more

The last time I was at where St. Ann's currently stands, it was just the open-air bricked-walled remnants of a former tobacco warehouse, literally, DUMBO. I was there for Smorgasburg back in, gosh, 2013, I think! And the last time I was St. Ann's previous location, back in the spring of 2015 to catch a re-imagining of "Troilus and Cressida", it was a little further up the street. Well, everything seems settled now, and the permanent home of St. Ann's Warehouse in that former tobacco warehouse is beautiful! The ceilings are high, the wooden interior is both industrial and cozy, and the theater space is rather impressive. Myself, the beau, his brother, and his brother's friend took in a performance of "Nice Fish", and the stage, lighting, and props were seamless! The seating was relatively comfortable, as well. Please note: The bathroom is unisex and, technically, in one big room, despite a door for men and a door for women; upon washing my hands after using the facilities, three men stood beside me and I had a minor panic attack that I had gone in the wrong door. Ha! Nope; left side is for men, right is for women, and they are separated with sinks and mirrors. As far as off-Broadway theaters go in NYC, St. Ann's Warehouse is a MUST. I look forward to catching many more shows there in the future. read more

I cannot believe I waited 6 years living in New York City without seeing a show in this stunning, super creative space. St. Ann's Warehouse sits on the East River in Dumbo in a beautiful, renovated brick warehouse that's been transformed into an architectural masterpiece of a theatre and art space. My dear friend Brittany and I bought rush tickets (only $20!) for "Arlington" by Enda Walsh with little to no expectations. I had heard great things about St. Ann's, but had purposefully blocked out any reviews or thoughts written online. I was not only blown away by the quality and thought behind the production, I was blown away by the space itself. The ceilings were insanely high, it was modern but not overwhelming. It felt like the outside and inside merged and were perfectly in harmony. The theatre space appears to be a super flexible black box...though, the production we saw was in a traditional proscenium setup. I want to get married in this space. read more

I was fortunate enough to attend Nice Fish written by Mark Rylance and Louis Jenkins. My friend couldn't attend the performance so she gave me her ticket for Sunday night. Little did I know, Mr. Oscar would make an appearance at the end of the play and two rows behind me would be Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw in attendance as well. St. Ann's Warehouse has cushioned seating and the theater is small enough that you can actually make eye contact with the actors and actresses. It's well ventilated at least for me so it wasn't too hot or too cold as some people complain about the temperatures in theaters. Furthermore, the acoustics are fine. I'm so glad to have seen Mark Rylance in theater as he's touted as one of the finest theater actors of our generation and one Wikipedia search reveals that even though he's British, he grew up in the Midwest so I understood a lot of the winter descriptions and jokes about them. I'd definitely come back and see more plays at St. Ann's Warehouse and it's a short walk to shake shack, Juliana's or Grimaldi's pizza if you want pre or post theater dinner. read more

I'd see anything at this great theatre company in Brooklyn. The space is versatile and unlike any theatre-going experience I've had in NYC. What Manhattan lacks in space for small non-profit theatre companies, Brooklyn makes up for with places like this. The lobby is huge, has food from Rice and has a good list of affordable wine and beer. Hit up the lobby about 30 minutes before a show to grab a bite. You'll love theatre here. I've been here over the years for several shows, and it's always a good venue. Easy to get to, even for those who prefer to stay on Manhattan, and easily accessible from several subway lines. They change the seating/stage around depending on the type of performance, and the venue has a cool, open feel to it. I also love that there is a small branch of another favorite, Rice, in the lobby. Great for a glass of wine/beer/hot cider before the show, or there are tons of bars/restaurants in the area. They seem to have a good selection of shows too - everything I've seen here has been solid. read more

Nice enough space. Excellent line of sight from all seats to the stage. Seats were a little uncomfortable towards the end of a 90 minute performance. Large lobby space, limited lobby seating, wine bar at one end of the room. They have applied for a full bar license. Nice view of lower Manhattan. I had a little trouble walking over from the F train at York Ave. Easier on the walk back. I walked north on Water St to Washington, east on Washington to York, north on York to the F train stop. If you happen to be in the area and visibly pregnant, expect the person at the door to tell you that while they feel bad for you because you're pregnant they can't let you in. I came her last night to see 4:48 Psychosis. The play was wonderful! The stage, the actors, the effects and the captions were spot on. Besides for the show, the setting wasn't ideal. I was told that this is only a temporary location, but even still, the theater was pretty cramped and unbelievably hot for a cool fall day. The seats were packed. With that many people, you would hope there would be some type of fan or AC situation. Many people fanned themselves throughout the show, but most of us just sweat through it. read more

I love this theater! Amazing curation of productions from around the world. I've been coming here (or their other location) since the late 90s. The tickets are inexpensive enough that you can take chances. I am always happy to look at the wall of posters and tick off the shows that I've seen. While the seating arrangements are flexible, they aren't entirely comfortable, and there can be problems with sight lines. But who thinks of that when they remember a fantastic show? read more

This big space is adapted differently for each show - primarily plays, but some music and special events shows. It is a warehouse, which is cool - but with that comes some issues, like it being extremely hot in summer (they stop doing shows from June to October because of the weather) and cold in winter so bring appropriate clothes for elements. It is easy to drop things under bleachers but the friendly staff will get it for you after show. Lost and found is at the info booth. Some shows have a strict no late entry policy so check the web or call. It's easy to be late with the current construction and instability of the F or A train schedule. Other notes: $20 rush tickets an hour before the show in most cases, no water fountain, and Rice bar serves food in the lobby, but food and drink is usually not allowed in the theater, so don't buy two thinking you're going to double fist it through a Druid performance. read more

Cool venue with as much seating as an elementary school auditorium. You can't tell from the floor maps on the website, but it has stadium seating, so there's no obstructed views from the tall guy in front of you. The sound system is good, and the performance area is pretty deep. Came here to see Daniel Kitson's Analog.ue. Without passing judgment on the show, it was definitely the right venue for that experimental weirdness. read more

Took my friend to see Bianco for her birthday and tho the show was good, the constant cattle herding to move us from the aerialist equipment/or stage was annoying to say the least. This is why I've given it a 3 star....the show itself is more a 4 star. read more

While St Ann's is spacious and neat, I'll explain why it doesn't rank high on my ratings scale: 1) I'm not sure if I'm a big fan of the warehouse concept - the theatre is separated from the lobby and restaurant by a curtain, which is not soundproof. Even after the production began (I was here to catch A Life in Three Acts), I could hear the staff outside the theatre 2) The chairs (think Ikea foldable types) is not exactly the most comfortable 3) The set-up seems more appropriate for a talk rather than a performance - luckily A Life in Three Acts is just that, but I shall report again after I catch "Young At Heart" very soon. read more

Both shows that I saw here have been outstanding (Blackwatch and a daniel kitson one man show). the space is unlike any other that you will see here in nyc and although tickets can be steep at times, it's worth it. The bathrooms suck so if you can go to another perhaps at dinner before you get there, i would suggest it as there is always a womens toilet thats down and a line thats loooooong. the willcall is always no bs and gets you in and out and the rice bar is cool, too. Came for a PBS SoundStage session. Acoustically phenomenonal, though that may be because it was made-for-TV, audibly and visually. A cool (despite being seated literally on top of a heat lamp/light hybrid, albeit in the front row) Vast Space. Staff did a nice job once the Generator Failed, but it never recovered and the last half-hour or so was done with house lights. Odd with none or limited food/drink selections but I was fine with that. read more

Venue is beautiful, unique and in a great location. However, we witnessed the condescending snarky staff berate and degrade a woman with multiple disabilities and mobility issues. We overheard many racist and demeaning comments by the staff directed at some theater goers. Theater staff were bullies in the truest sense of the word The experience was, to say the least, appalling. I and my friends and family are now personally boycotting this venue. read more
