Public Records is in a beautiful airy venue with high ceilings and dj sets on the weekend. I went for a late dinner with a 9:15 reservation that we arrived early for at 9p, but we were not seated until after 9:30. I normally don't mind being seated late, but since it was a Friday night they needed all the dining room cleared by 10:45 for a party; so we were immediately told it was last call for food when we were seated. Our waitress was incredibly kind and apologetic for having to rush us, but we definitely were rushed through the meal and were asked if we wanted boxes before we even got through our plates. On the food itself, it's incredible. Definitely get some of the dips - the whipped vadouvan carrot and 24-hour cashew labneh were both great with such depth of flavor/texture. The dips don't come with any bread so we ordered the sourdough flatbread which was a great accompaniment, though I feel like at some sort of bread should be included with the dips. The crudite it came with was difficult to share. The smashed fingerling potatoes and fried kimchi cauliflower were flavorful sides, though the cauliflower sat in quite a bit of oil which was a bit much. The cauliflower gnocchi is the only dish I wouldn't recommend. The dish itself was quite small, and the gnocchi was thin and was more mushroom-forward than cauliflower. We finished with the tahini hibiscus cheesecake, it was a great smooth texture/flavor for a vegan cheesecake, though it was hard to appreciate the hibiscus flavor. We also didn't even get to eat dessert at our table (literally had to carry it to the bar) since we were rushed off the floor. Overall, incredible food that centers vegetables in a way that far exceeds anywhere else I've been in the city. Service had some hiccups tonight, but seems like servers were a bit stressed as well. read more

There's a small café space in the front where people can work, but inside, the focus is strictly on the dining experience. While I was initially told that diners could work while eating, a server later clarified that they're shifting towards a more traditional lunch environment--likely to discourage people from camping out with just a coffee. Now, onto the food: * Furikake Home Fries - A definite win! Crispy, savory, and packed with umami flavor. * Smacked Chili Cucumber - Beautiful presentation, but a little underwhelming in flavor. Went here for dinner so we didn't get to experience the late nightlife that it's also known for. Can't believe this place is vegan because the food is delicious and presentation like an upscale restaurant. It is priced that way, but so is most vegan, especially if in NYC. We stopped by Public Records for late breakfast and a work sesh. We order at the bar, a matcha tonic, a chai latte with oat milk and a P[R]SL which is made up of pumpkin, espresso, oat, winter spices, black pepper and rosemary. It was amazing! The perfect warm fall flavored beverage. I also had a coconut and apricot granola bowl with coconut yogurt, apricot and dark chocolate granola, berry compote, seasonal fruit, tahini and rose...it was really good though the combination of flavors took some getting used to. I felt super healthy after eating it. Apply the super high NYC price tag and this treat becomes an indulgence versus an everyday coffee shop for me. Once we received our drinks we found a table. The seating area was brightly lit with natural lighting and there were lots of tables available even though there were quite a few people there. This is obviously a go to coffee bar during the day for those who work remotely. I was also told there's a speakeasy in the back that hosts dance parties and art shows. Visited here on a weekend after brunch to grab a little caffeine boost and rest my legs. Barista at the front house (small seating area where you can be productive [think 3 people max]) was friendly. There are some bites offered under a glass counter if you're looking for a little snack. There was no menu for coffee, so we opted for your classic oat latte. The latte definitely fell short: little flavor, watered down, and pretty small. I definitely feel like it's moreso just a ticket to your way in to chill. We hung out in the open patio in the back. Very spacious, great natural lighting as you're outside. Wonderful place to catchup with friends, keep to yourself, journal, you name it. Between the front and the outside space is a gorgeous middle space. Very airy, light, open, and organic feeling space where you can either have a coffee, enjoy a cocktail, or nibble on some bites with yourself or a group. They sell merch here: wonderful looking garment dyed tees and whatnot, but are a tad bit pricey for what they are. i love public records. they always have a variety of events going on throughout the week & weekend. literally ranges from wellness events to a dirty night out dancing! they have 3 main rooms and sometimes all of the rooms are open or only a few. i've been there a few nights where all are open & it's always a good time. the artists & sounds are diverse too. i will say, the crowd can be a bit obnoxious depending on who's playing but you just gotta learn to be in your own world & not let them set the tone of your time there! :) read more

Love Public Records for both food and music! I've been here twice for dinner and throughly enjoyed both times. Delicious vegan food and fun wines! Definitely get the oyster mushroom enchilada tacos, roasted carrots, and heirloom tomato cashew burrata. They have great natural wines to pair. Oyster Mushroom Enchilada Tacos: Amazing texture with crispy taco shell and soft mushrooms, we loved the flavor and cilantro crema. Roasted Carrots: Never thought carrots could taste this good. I normally don't enjoy carrots but I could have this everyday. The kombucha glaze is sweet and umami while the black garlic mascarpone adds a creamy yet smokey flavor. Get it! Saffron Rigatoni: This was maybe 30s to a minute undercooked. Some pieces were perfectly al dente but there was one or two noticeably undercooked pieces. Would not get this again. Heirloom Tomato Cashew Burrata: So refreshing yet creamy. The pepper herb oil is such a nice touch, I wish I could have it on every burrata. Mole Brownie: Interesting texture, I wish it was slightly less crumbly and a little more fudgy as a personal preference. Berry compote was nice, but the horchata was a bit too strong and off balance for the brownie. At around 11, the restaurant turns into a music venue which we thought was super cool. If you want to stay to explore the 3 different rooms of music, you have to exit and line up to enter through a separate entrance for security and tickets. Came to see two incredible artists Allysha Joy and Audrey Powne, and was blown away by the sound design of this music room. The speakers are insane and the wood walls creates a warm environment. Great venue! A little too crowded for my liking, but i had a great time nonetheless. Because it's a wine bar, the only non-alcoholic option was water. Being sober, it would've been nice to have another option. With it being so hot last Saturday, ice was hard to come by. Overall, it was a lot of fun. My cousin Hasan DJ'd and my closest girlfriends came, so it was a blast. The music was perfect for the setting. Seeing so many different age groups and backgrounds getting together just for a great vibe was amazing! Another thing to note, it's not exactly convenient to get to by public transportation, especially on the weekends. I took two trains and walked 15 minutes. It's best to take a car. Went here for a ticketed concert in the Sound Room downstairs. There was a line outside when we arrived which we joined, but no staff giving information or directions about anything. Low to no information seems like the theme here. Nothing happened until we were let in just after doors at 10pm. There is a coat check available for $4(+tax)/person, kind of steep since what else are you going to do with a winter coat at a club? Of course there was no information about this on their website. The coat check was absolutely full by the time we left at 1:30, so get there early if you want to check a coat. Bathrooms were a handful of grimy unisex stalls. Club floor was medium sized, with the DJ booth at one end, a platform on the other, some sparse bench seating around the edges, and a bar on the right when we entered. They had drinks, canned beer and wine, non alcoholic options, and free water too. Drink options were varied and interesting, I had the shiso drink ($16) which was delicious and gone too soon. The sound system is fairly nice, but the crowd was, simply put, awful. Nobody was dancing and there were several instances of inappropriate touching and male aggression in the crowd that went unchecked. The venue should also institute a no phone policy on the floor, it was obnoxious. Overall I prefer Mister Sunday for dancing but I'd come back here for a different experience, hopefully the crowd is not always this lame and rude. read more

Used to love it, but the heat is unbearable I've had a lot of fun at Public Records over the years, including celebrating a birthday here. it pains me to say this: the HVAC situation on the top floor is a genuine health hazard. The space is beautiful and full of plants (they're clearly thriving), but the air is so hot and humid it feels like a greenhouse in July. It's hard to enjoy yourself when you're sweating through your clothes. Thr upstairs bathrooms somehow manage to be even hotter. If you're looking for a sauna experience, you'd be better off just going to an actual spa. The vibe is still great, but unless you're a monstera, you'll likely wilt before your drink does (also my vodka soda was $40). I hope they make some changes, because the space has some potential read more

We went out to Public Records with the intention of a night of dancing/fun out in New York City. I have always loved going out in cities and was excited to add New York to the list. Public records was filled with endlessly frustrating situations and awful customer service. It started with a $25 dollar "ticket fee". The staff who took our money were very inconsiderate, ignoring costumers waiting to pay and summoning others to the front and then asking us those waiting to move out of their way. In my opinion, the music was boring and repetitive. The lights were also awkwardly dark and only allowed for brief flashing moments of navigation. Others might enjoy this ambience a bit more but our group settled on navigating upstairs to another room with less awkward lighting. In this room, we sat at a table expecting to sit and socialize. We were approached by a waitress who asked for our drink order. She then asked for a card which I happily handed over. We became very frustrated when She didn't return to our table for another 30 minutes. As soon as she appeared with our drinks, I asked for the check so we could get ready to leave. She then brought back the check but not my card. I had to then wait up at the bar for another 10 minutes while I told them what happened and waited for them to find her. When we finally got the card back, she spilled water all over my friend and didn't seem to notice or apologize. We couldn't wait to leave and I'm frankly disappointed in the money we had to spend here. We tried to make the best of the most of that "ticket fee" but ended up feeling as though the night was wasted. (Also a friendly note that this establishment does not carry cranberry juice so vodka crans are not an option!) read more

Guys! If you don't allow laptops, that's totally cool. But you have to put a sign by the register! I showed up at 10 to do some work before a four-person brunch. Even though the restaurant wasn't even serving food until 11, and even though I had a reservation to spend real money, and even though I ordered a coffee without being warned, I still got spicily told no laptops allowed at 10:30. Put up a sign and stop acting like it's the customer's fault for not reading your mind. Most places that are only serving coffee and have ample seating allow them! Boo. read more

The reason why I know it was at public records, is because that was the only place that day where he and I both paid for something in the same place. Other than that it was pretty fun. I was here for an event to listen to a new record that was being released tonight. It was a bit confusing once we arrived... there's a restaurant, a club downstairs, a lounge/listening room upstairs. We initially went inside the restaurant and were told to go wait outside until a black door opened. When it opened, we stood in line to get our tickets and IDs checked but were told by the staff that we were upstairs, so we had to go back outside and enter another black door. We ended up going upstairs to the listening room that had a small bar in the back. It's a nice area; brightly lit during the day but intimate once the sun sets but extremely hot inside (they only had the windows open). Got a couple of beers (from Threes Brewing) to drink while listening to the entire record. It was pretty cool since the artist, Eliana Glass, was sitting right next to us since her friends were sharing a table with us. We didn't realize it was her until we overheard their convo. She ended up performing a couple of her songs live. Definitely an interesting experience that we would have no clue about if Spotify hadn't informed us of the free ticketed event. read more

As a New Yorker who's always looking for hidden gems, away from tourists, and inspired by global influences - this space exceeds in terms of ambiance, service, crowd, music AND food. It's hard to find a place that provides a high quality experience in all aspects. I came to public records last summer with a group of friends and we loved the dj and music. The outdoor space is beautiful with lush greenery and the atrium has a nice minimalist touch. We came back to try the food at the restaurant and everything was flavorful. Visited for some drinks on a Saturday afternoon and drinks were great, same average price than any other Manhattan pricey bar ($15-$18 per cocktail) but in an industrial Brooklyn area. GREAT music selection if you like electronic/indie/house music, chill vibe. Extremely aesthetically pleasing in the restaurant area, we were denied a sneak peak to the music room because they told us it would open only until 11pm so I cannot give an opinion on that area. We really just wanted to check out the space because it was our first time there but since we were not allowed, ended up a little disappointed, other than that, staff were attentive and welcoming. The place has an alternative pseudo-intelectual kinda vibe but not funky/dirty, actually very clean, which I liked. I bet the terrace/patio is FUN during warmer months, when we visited it was pretty empty and the patio was closed too. If I needed to describe this place in two words they would be "good taste". I cannot vouch for their food as we didn't try any. Apparently is a vegan menu with small plates. For me the main downside of this place is their location, definitely not super close to any subway, closest station is about a 15/20 minutes walk, no frequent buses either, and since the area is super industrial, there were a lot of lonely warehouses and we didn't feel as comfortable as in other parts of the city walking at night. Will definitely come back but most likely during the day in spring/summer or if at night for one of their parties in the music room, will definitely budget for an Uber when leaving. This review is strictly based on my night life experience here, not the restaurant during the day time. I've been here twice now and both times, my friends and I ran into some mishaps. The 1st time, they asked us for our tickets and we said we hadn't bought any online. I've had a couple friends come here in the past and they said only the dance floor (sound room) is ticketed and then everyone after 11. The staff said that because it was Pride weekend, they were having a special event so everybody had to be ticketed. The cover was $50 at the door but we decided to do it anyways. We enjoyed the upstairs level a lot and it had a great sound system. The 2nd time we came back was on a regular weekend and beforehand, I saw on Yelp someone had asked a question regarding admission for Saturday night. There was an answer from the business owner saying: "There is no price for admission to the Bar Room. The price of admission to the Sound Room performances varies depending on the artist playing. The best way to find out ticket prices for a particular night would be to visit our page on Dice." (This answer is from 5 years ago, so I decided to email the venue just in case but got no response.) This aligned with what my friends said before, so we got there before 11 and there was nobody at the door to let people in. We knocked on a door and a staff member came out saying they recently changed their ticketing system. Now the entire venue is ticketed to access all 3 areas (sound room, bar room, upstairs level). There were no more regular tickets on Dice and the cover ($40) was double what the regular tickets would've been. We decided against paying that and this was pretty frustrating. As much as I enjoyed my 1st time at Public Records, I feel like the confusion around the ticketing system has proven to be difficult. This change wasn't stated clearly on the website and I got no response when reaching out via email. I know that the DJ starts at 11 so most people start coming at 11, but if there are people who wanted to come before 11, there was nobody at the door to let them in? I love the venue itself, it has a great vibe and I really enjoy the music, but I'll definitely be back and have to see how my experience is the next time (maybe 3rd time is the charm) and I'll maybe update my review after that. read more

If I was to rate the food only I would give 5 stars easily. The chef Is exceptional and so far everything me and my husband tried on the menu is amazing. Today we came for a brunch and had a pleasure to eat labneh toast, fried mushroom sandwich and one of my favorites the Hokkaido French toast. The labneh toast as well as the French toast are just the perfect combination of flavors with every little ingredient complementing each other. The service though is a whole another story. Last time we came for brunch we were taken care of by a male server whose name I can't recall but who was super nice and helped us with some recommendations. Today on the other hand we had a female server wearing glasses and a bucket hat. She came up shortly asking if we're ready to order, we said we needed a little more time after which she was gone for like eternity. Mind you the restaurant wasn't busy at all. We finally had our order taken and didn't wait long for food to come out. Our server though did not come to check on us even once. When we were done with our food she just dropped off the check almost throwing it on the table without even saying a word. We left cash which she shortly came to collect also just grabbing it no words, no thank you no not even looking at us. We weren't trying to be dicks so left 20% tip although for this service she should not get any tips in my opinion as there was no serving on her end. I'm not sure what the fuck was that but haven't had such inhumane service in a while. What happened to "how was everything today?, here's your check and thank you for coming?".
