This little bar in Fishtown has got to have some of the best pasta I've ever tried. We got the tagliatelle with lamb chop, which came with truffle oil, & cherry tomatoes. The pasta was cooked peeeeerfectly -- just al dente (maybe on the slightly chewier and harder side, which I preferred). The sauce was unbelievably rich and coated the pasta so well. And the LAMB CHOPS! Ugh so good. Came with three huge pieces that were salty and well seasoned. And cmon. $15 for all this deliciousness? What. A. Steal. I also have tried the Tagliatelle With Filet Mignon which is also cooked SO well. Again, pasta cooked perfectly al dente and the filet mignon is delicious. The sauce that covers it is the creamy sauce with truffle oil and is just *my* perfect amount of salt. Decent amount of filet mignon too. All that for $17...it's pretty great. My husband has gotten the lamb rack platter before that comes with a side of pasta. For $29, you get about...9 lamb chops (I think we counted!). 8 on the rack, and 1 on the side of the pasta. A hidden Italian restaurant AND bar. The bar is on the outside and restaurant combined with it. I spoke to one of the waitresses, and she turned out to be the wife of the Italian chef, who with two others guy prepares all the meals and I must say, it was EXTRAORDINARY!! One of my favorite things about Philly is all of our food gems, and Murphs is no doubt a gem of Philadelphia. Walking past or seeing the interior of this Irish bar, you would never think that they pump out some of the best Italian food in all of Philly - and that's high praise because Philly has AMAZING Italian food and so many options. This was my second visit, and it didn't disappoint, very consistent on the food front. My entire party was very pleased with their meal. The menu was quite updated from my last visit in November, so that's another bonus that I love! They keep some staples and favorites, but seem to rotate the menu at a healthy level and always specials to keep you coming back. I enjoyed my stuffed gnocchi, I've never had a gnocchi stuffed before. The pear pasta my friend got was such an interesting pairing, but it worked! The seafood manicotti and lobster ravioli were stellar as well, and very fair price appx $16 range for most pastas. The service was a bit slow and inconsistent, but she was very personable and friendly. I highly recommend stopping by Murphs for a visit, you won't be disappointed! If I could write Murph's a million 5-star reviews, I would. I've said it once and I'll say it again - Murph's is the best Italian food in Philadelphia. Came during covid for outdoor dining - they have a cute little tent out front that is open on multiple sides (not one of those unsafe outdoor-indoor structures) and heat lamps to keep you warm. We started with mussels au gratin and fried mozzarella (they were sadly out of fried burrata). The mussels were a surprisingly large portion, and the fried mozz was clearly fresh/better quality than what you normally think of when you order this app. For the main course, we ordered a rack of lamb and tagliatelle with filet to share. Both were insanely delicious. If you like lamb, definitely try theirs - it's only $25 for a full rack and side of pasta. We easily had two extra meals of leftovers to take home. The mains were a little delayed to come out, so Murph's kindly gave us dessert on the house - we had the creme brulee cheesecake and lemon marcapone cake. You can't go wrong with either. While waiting for a table, I had a Morrison Mule and Bourbon Spritz. I would... you guessed it - recommend both. Not sure if they're still doing this, but they gave me the drink in a plastic cup so I could wait outside with it! One word- Amazing! This bar is deceiving from the outside- it looks like a Irish bar but has the best pasta I've ever had. My husband is not a big pasta fan and he even loved it. Murph's is another lesson in not judging a book by its cover. From the outside, it just looks like a standard bar, but the menu is pretty fantastic! Full of wonderful Italian dishes. I had the pear and cheese fiocchi and it was DELICIOUS. To drink, I had the Hawaiian Bonfire, which I would not get again, but that's okay. Should have done the suggested wine pairing which I think is a great touch on the food menu. Medium serving size. Highly recommended. Stuffed gnocchi: gnocchi are fresh, melts in your mouth with grape tomato and fresh basil and covered with grated Parmesan. First time I got there at Friday 815 and had just missed their dinner. Yesterday. Saturday I got there at 730 and was seated at 750 ish and at like 8, they started telling people that the kitchen was closed. Based on my observations it sounds like their peak days Fri/Sat you have to have your name on the list by 8pm. The service is super quick and friendly. It's cash only, which is kind of annoying, but I can get over that. The outdoor seating is not very comfortable (metal chairs that really hurt your bum), but the food totally makes up for it. We got the fried smoked mozzarella, lobster ravioli, and the seafood manicotti. We devoured everything and could barely walk home. Everything was delicious albeit a bit heavy. I had high expectations for Murph's based on their popularity and raving reviews but I had an overall lackluster time. We went there on Friday night and it was poppin. We waited about 45 minutes for our table which I wasn't upset about. I don't really understand restaurants who know they have a high customer flow but little capacity, yet don't have a very good waitlist system? Like they just put you down and scream for you inside this bustling Irish pub once a table opens up lol. The wait didn't bother me, the staff were obviously working so hard to accommodate all these people. We got sat at one of the two tops along the wall so other customers are constantly bumping into you or getting up in your business but oh well. Long story short the food was subpar. I got the eggplant rollatini and even though the dish was hot and it had definitely been baking in the oven, the middle was lukewarm. My friend got the smoked mozzarella and even though it's literally deep fried cheese, it wasn't piping hot either. They were out of the bolognese which is the only thing my friend wanted to eat, but that's no one's fault. She got the cacio e pepe ravioli and it just wasn't good. Tasted like peppery Parmesan water and straight up parm isn't a good filler for ravioli. I got the lobster ravioli and it was super delicious I would gladly eat it again. The prices aren't bad and the service is good. We just were expecting more. We had the peanut butter espresso martinis for dessert and it was easily the best espresso martini I've ever had. Wow! Blown away by this hidden gem. I have been by it hundreds of times and never went in. Small bar, not much seating, friendly staff and customers. We went on Thursday around the end of Happy Hour, where the drafts are a deal a $3 each. Not much seating, as I said, so we scrounged up a few stools at a 2 top and made it work. The food smelled so good and people were raving about how good it was. My buddies both got gnocchi dishes and said they were great. I had the seafood manacotti in the blush sauce. Wow! We arrived promptly at 7:00 pm, only to be told that all names on the list had been called and no more guests were being seated. The staff member simply said, "We're open tomorrow." We drove 40 minutes to get there, and this was the service we received. This is terrible customer service. There was no room to stand a wait as the place was packed. So I returned at the time your employee quoted, and you refused to honor my reservation. It is terrible customer service to expect people to drive 40 minutes only to be turned away again. read more

I can't say enough good things about the food at Murph's Bar. We had the meatballs and ricotta as an appetizer. It was rich and delicious. We ordered the veal tortellacci and the pear and cheese fiocci as our entrees, with the intention of splitting them (which we did). Both entrees were absolutely delicious, and even seemed to compliment each other. The pear and cheese was very tasty, and at the same time subtle with the flavor (not overpowering at all). And the sauce on the fiocci was cheesy and flavorful, but neither light or heavy. The veal was perfectly presented, prepared and proportionate. The pasta was perfect, and seemed to deliver the veal as like a wrapped present. The veal was delicious, and the sauce was amazing. The whole thing was magical, quite honestly. The setting was cool, if crowded, but you felt like you were in on a secret, and a delicious treat. The service was great. I wish I took some pictures...oh well. I was busy. Please do not go here. After seeing a yummy foodie IG post, Murph's has been on our list for about a year. We finally found some time to make the trek into Philly, so our expectations were high! We ordered arancini, fried smoked mozzarella, meatballs, seafood manicotti, Murph's pasta and tagliatelle with filet. We wanted to make sure we covered all our bases. We had the highest expectations for the Murph's pasta and seafood manicotti after seeing so many reviews and pictures from Yelp and IG. However to our surprise, the tagliatelle with filet was both mine and my husband's favorite. The sauce is creamy and flavorful, and the filet is tender. The seafood manicotti came in second, but was really flavorful and Murph's pasta came in last for us. It was good, just no where near the tagliatelle for us! I would skip the fried smoked mozzarella next time. Besides the smoked flavor, it was kind of flat. The meatballs also had just a tiny bit of smokiness, but they were decent with flavor... same goes for the arancini. Not bad, not the best we've ever had... just decent! read more

WORST BAR EVER!!! My friends and I always wanted to try this place so we came to the restaurant around 6pm on Saturday. The host said it would be an hour wait and we figured the wait would be longer.....an hour has passed and the host said there was still 7 people in front of us so we decided to stick it out since it was late and most places were closing soon. After about another 45 minutes he proceeded to tell us to sit at the bar and order food....not even 30 seconds after we sat down at the bar the server told us the kitchen ran out of food. Since our group had 7 people, our waitress informed us that we'd be served family style - double the portion, double the price - so everyone could have a taste. That didn't stop us from going hog. We ordered the Black Truffle Tagliolini, Cheese and Spinach Ravioli, Pear and Honey Fiocchi, and Stuffed Gnocchi, with Fried Buratta and Arancini for our starters. Oh. My. God. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It was so, so, so out of this world. I can't even describe to you how delicious every single item tasted. The flavors and smells of the Black Truffle, the creamy sweet and savory combination of the pear and honey Fiocchi, the enormity of the Arancini balls and Fried Buratta. I mean, there was not a single thing we ordered that I would not order again. Let me tell you, too. Now that I know the amazing variety and flavor available, the family style is the WAY to go! I went here several years ago but decided I would detail my experience as this place is getting sky high review scores so I just want to give the down low of the true vibe here. Very interesting divey-ish neigborhood "Irish" townie bar vibe that serves good Italian food. We showed up with a fairly large party I want to say eight people very early and were seated. After many of us were placing substantial orders (one of our friends who was buzzed ordered three different items) WELL...very oddly the waitress said everyone has to order two meals EACH PERSON mininum. Apparently, this is the rule with large parties we were told. This did not sit well with many of us and half of us walked out and two or three stayed at the bar and tried to order just one meal at the bar. After alot of ackwardness and them refusing to serve a single beer to one of our group members who tried ordering three food items only two of the original eight of us stayed. The one friend who they wouldn't serve just kept saying they missed out on a hugh bill which frankly was true. I am seeing other reviews where you are just treated extremely rude. I am thinking this may be the case because some in the surrounding area can be rude patrons and sometimes you do need to throw people out and clean up shop but my one experience was just ultra werid. Good luck if you visit here after the COVID-19 Pandemic. I just would not come with a large group and do not expect to be treated "friendly".
