I LOVED this place as soon as I laid my eyes on it because of the TV's outside and the outside seating for the World Cup games!!! My family and I came here for lunch and to watch a WC game at noon. I was even more impressed once inside! Nice big TVs EVERYWHERE!!! I mentioned to the hostess how great of a set up they had and what a bummer no one was inside to watch Argentina vs Egypt! Anyhow, she wanted to sit us right in front of the two TVs that were NOT playing the soccer game. I thought I was in the twilight zone. I asked her if we could sit in front of the tv that was playing the game. She said the game was being played on the other tvs and pointed at the bar TVs. Those TVs weren't far, but the tables she was going to sit us at were MUCH closer. She appeared to pout in silence and almost felt like she rolled her eyes. I couldn't believe she was giving me attitude when there was no one in the restaurant!!! She picked up the menus, put them on another table in the middle of the place, but further away from the original tables which was a great location! I remained standing where I was. She picked up the menus, put them down on another table near where I was standing but in front of a tv playing soccer and walked away. I was floored I felt she gave me attitude. The saga continues. I asked for the get game to be put on on another tv. The manager or owner walked over to change it quickly. I yelled thank you, he barely glanced my way with a serious face and said nothing. Until recently, I've only been to Urban Saloon for drinks. All those experiences have been great. When it's super busy for a game or something special, they clear out a lot of their tables to make space for guests. It's a huge spot with a long bar which makes getting drinks easy. Their bartenders are always on it, serving drinks quickly! Recently I went for dinner and it was SO good, I can't believe I've been missing out for this long! Living in Philly, everyone has their favorite roast pork sandwich, and I was so pleasantly surpised on this one! It was so flavorful and the portion was big! Beyond that, we got a spinach dip and mac and cheese, the dip was good, but definitely not my favorite. The mac and cheese was so great! Our waitress was lovely and the meal was great. I liked the meat, cheese, fried onions, and banana peppers on my cheesesteak. I appreciate that they are using a fancy roll. Even though I have been called a sellout to fancy rolls, this roll, in its present state, isn't working with this cheesesteak. Went the night before Thanksgiving, but I've been going to Urban since I moved to Philly 10 years ago. It has become one of my go-to bar since I've always lived nearby. Gives the feel and look of a saloon with the wooden furniture and panels. Lighting tends to stay somewhat dim and works with the vibe of the bar. Music usually plays later in the night and there are TVs all around with different games to watch. The bartenders are always great! Make amazing drinks, have great personality and definitely put in work - the bartender that was there Thanksgiving eve night looked like she was working the bar herself, but she was getting it done and still had good energy, interacted with people with a smile and made drinks/placed orders in good time. Again, drinks are always made well here and can be strong depending on what you order and if a bartender you know is trying to show extra love lol. The food is always pretty good. Standard bar options with a few specials every now and then. The portion sizes are generous - I ordered the Urban Sandwich that night and took half of it home because I was not expecting it to be as big as it was. If you are looking for a bar with good drinks, energetic yet chill vibe and some hood food options while in the Fairmount area, Urban is the place to go. read more

There's not very many options if you want to have a younger crowd with a little more energy without traveling to other areas of the city. We had just gotten done visiting the Eastern State Penitentiary and this was right across the street which made it super convenient. I went solely for food and bevvies, so I think that's why my rating falls a bit lower. I'm adding 4 stars, because as a "saloon" I think it's deserving. If you're looking for a place to watch a game with decent eats, it fits the profile. If you're going for a great meal, it leaves a little to be desired and would probably be a 3 star in that respect. My favorite thing was the soft pretzels! They were great with beer cheese, once I stirred the lukewarm film back into incorporation. The pretzels themselves were soft, warm and buttery! I also got the Philly Cheesesteak spring rolls. The spring rolls themselves were quite good. They were more of an egg roll than a spring roll but they were crispy and cheesy. It came with a cherry pepper ketchup which I assumed would be on the side. I don't like ketchup so no biggie. Sadly it was drizzled on the plate and unavoidable but it was okay. I didn't really like this but that was to be expected, and I didn't get any indication of cherry pepper. My friend however validated my distaste for the condiment, it didn't pair well. I think some kind of Thai chili sauce would absolutely elevate these to new heights. My friend got the Buffalo chicken mac and cheese and it looked great! The food came out and for the price point, portion size are great value. The quality of the food though, far from great. My salad was underdressed, underseasoned, and shrimp not seasoned. My boyfriend salad was also underdressed severely , the grilled chicken must have been grilled since the start of the shift because it was so damn dry. Croutons were dark, and stale. The wings we had got were honey sriracha and we didn't taste sriracha or the honey it was advertised as. The wings tasted like chalk of how severely fried they were. The whole experience tasted like everyone hated their job. It was very poorly made and I wouldn't recommend this establishment from my very first experience eating here.
