I asked the bartender which dish out of the lobster ravioli, seafood manicotti, and the pappardelle with crab and shrimp has the most meat, and it was the pappardelle so I picked that. The shrimp was tender and pasta was a firm al dente. Overall, texture and taste stood out. The place was crowded on a weekday night. Close the app and go to Murph's, just go. As it gets closer to dinner, things get a bit hectic in there. No reservations, cash only (they have an atm), not many seats, but all of it is worth it. The food here is insane. The pear Pear & Cheese Fiocchi might be one of the best dishes I've ever had in the city. Same with the Tagliatelle with Filet. If you go with a larger group, they do family style, which is perfect, because you're going to want to try everything. The service is a bit slow, even when it's quiet, but still, I don't even care cause the food here is crazy. Murph's is friendly neighborhood spot with an incredible menu, accommodating staff and the chef is amazing. His dish of Puttanesca is to die for! Last time. I was here. I ordered it. The chef's version is yummy but normally spicy. Since my last visit spicy doesn't like me. So, when I asked the chef to please make the dish spicy- free there was no problem. It was a great meal. Everything on the menu is incredible. They have an amazing lobster ravioli and their manicotti is stuffed with shrimp and crab and yummy stuff with killer gravy. . I cannot recommend the Italian food at Murph's enough. I have come here for many years now and tried almost every dish and all of them have been some of the best Italian food that I've had in the city. The service is good and Ive never had any issues. No reservations and they serve food everyday except Tuesday. Sometimes they let you make reservations for holidays like Mother's Day. It is small and busy, low lighting and comfortable but can be a tight squeeze. But the food makes any little inconvenience more than worth it. Cash only. Drinks are decent- I have only really had the espresso martini which is always good. I had an old fashion once and it was honestly way so strong that I could not finish it which I found odd because I usually drink whiskey on the rocks. It took about 10-15 minutes for one of the bartenders to acknowledge me, despite it being a busy bar and checking in on many of the other people. Initially it was a woman with redish blonde hair and a (very pretty) but bigger woman with dark brown hair tending the bar and it felt like they were purposefully ignoring me. It was awkward. The girl sitting beside me (who was served water and a drink the second she sat down) left in protest when she realized what was going on. Don't be gross. Had to give Murph's a try in Fishtown after everyone raving about it. I got the lobster ravioli with vodka sauce and it was unbelievable! Had to end the night with cannolis obviously. The service and atmosphere was great and it felt like such authentic italian. read more

Had such high expectations for Murph's Bar - we came around 5:45pm on a Saturday and knew we'd have to put our name down and wait. Had to wait so long that my husband had to move our car because we lost our parking, but it was fine because we were excited to try the rave-reviewed food. Got seated around 8pm ish and quickly ordered as we knew what we wanted - involtini di melanzane, pear & cheese fiocchi, and ricotta ravioli. The inside is super busy and packed, and we were backed up against the wall between the bar in the entry way - which, again, was fine because I knew it was a bar and we were just excited for the food. However, the food was hugely disappointing - genuinely flavorless, tiny portions. The involtini was probably the best dish we had and even that was not good - lots of cheese, tasteless sauce. The fiocchi was just too sweet and the ravioli was boring, we had to sprinkle on lots of red pepper flakes for flavor. Left still hungry and let down - have had much better pasta in Philly and didn't feel like Murph's was anything special / worth even a 10 minute wait. Was told this irish bar had some of the best pasta in philly so i had to come. No reservations and i suggest an early walk in. Ambience is truly like an irish bar and would not expect italian food. Also its cash only Food wise, does live up to the hype for most items, especially the red sauces. Personally the white sauces were a little bland for me but well done nonetheless the less. I truly don't know how the judge this because the food is amazing, but the rest of my experience wasn't good. I don't mind the dive bar interior vibe, but the service wasn't pleasant or swift. Every time I asked for or ordered something I felt bothersome. I was knocked into while sitting at my table every minute. This was no one's fault since the space was so tight, but it still really sucked lol. Like if the food was just ok or even good, I would never come back or recommend it. I really enjoyed dining at Murph's! The service was great and so was the food. The ricotta paired well with meatballs and the tomato sauce by adding a little bit of sweetness. I really enjoyed the seafood manicotti (you can really taste the seafood) and the pear and cheese fiocchi (sweet, creamy, and some crunchy bits of pear inside the pasta). My friend preferred the gargenelli amatriciana, which was onion-forward; I was also pleasantly surprised by the spice level (it was spicier than I expected). Murph's is such a unique place! A cute Irish bar (vaguely Elvis themed) with delicious Italian food! They said the wait for a table was about 1 hour on a Saturday, but we snagged bar seats which are first come first serve. We asked the bartender for recs and got the fried burrata, ricotta ravioli, and a pear and cheese pasta. These were all so good! I thought they couldn't live up to the first time we went, but it absolutely did. This time we got the tagliatelle with filet- the sauce was incredible. The truffles were just enough. I wasn't sure about a filet dish that was so cheap but the meat was actually so great for this dish and the noodles were perfect. I only wish there were more, but that's probably my own complaint. We also tried the bolognese dish this time, which was also incredible. I usually am not a bolognese fan but somehow this converted me. I wasn't expecting a small neighborhood bar to have such exquisite Italian food, but Murph's humbled me during my visit. We started with the fried smoked mozzarella sticks. Sometimes "smoked" mozzarella dishes skimp in the smoky flavor department, but it was center stage in these mozzarella sticks. The smoky cheese paired well with the bread-crumb coating and was fried to a perfect crisp. The side of rich marinara dipping sauce elevated each bite to another level. I'm by no means a pasta connoisseur or an Italian food expert, but the Paccheri Aum Aum entree I ordered was perhaps the best pasta I've had in recent memory. The paccheri pasta (like a larger version of rigatoni) was coated in a delicious tomato sauce, accentuated with notes of garlic, basil and olive oil. If that wasn't enough, the fried eggplant and mozzarella made this into a dish I won't soon forget. Had I still had room left, I would have loved to try out one of the delectable dessert offerings on the menu. I really liked the homey, neighborhood bar feel inside. The service was great and out food came out quickly. My only gripe is that the restaurant is cash only. But it is what it is, so come prepared (an ATM is available inside). read more

Finally tried Murph's bar and it lives up to the hype. Probably the best pasta I've ever had and didn't think I'd ever get it in a bar. Staff is great at getting people in and out because the inside is packed and small. There's outside seating too. We started with the arancini and calamari. The arancini was stuffed with ground beef and mozarella. It was amazing. I've had arancini one other time before and it wasn't mind-blowing. This was memorable. The crunchy but thick texture of the rice and gooey cheese and beef worked so well. The calamari was good, I just wish the breading was different, it didn't really have a crunch to it. I'm not upset though, it was still some good calamari. For the entrees, we had the tagliatelle with filet and the pear and cheese fiocchi. My girlfriend got the tagliatelle with filet and I wish I got it instead. The tagliatelle is al dente, the cream sauce is thick and coats the tagliatelle well so you get equal parts of each when you bite into it. I didn't realize it had truffle oil but wow, it's pungent but just enough to make you want to take another bite. This was probably the best part that had me wanting more. The filet mignon was tender and added another texture to break things up. It was done so well and I'm glad she made me finish her dish! As for the pear and cheese fiocchi, when I think of pasta, I'm never going to think of pear with cheese on the same plate. It sounds really weird but trust me, it works! The cream sauce made the pasta savory, the fiocchi itself was al dente, and the pear just hit it home with some sweet notes. They weren't overbearing, there weren't large globs of it, it was clearly easy to distinguish its texture from the fiocchi. Smooth creamy cheese sauce with al dente pasta and small but plentiful pieces of pear to really bring it home. Comfort food and cheap drinks! Went all the way to Fishtown to check out this bar/ restaurant and I'm so glad I did. I only heard good things about this place so had to check it out for dinner. There was a 20 min wait and it was packed. It looked like people could sit at the bar and eat but the tables were strictly for dining. The inside looked like a typical dive bar and everyone was friendly. We started off with the meatballs and this mozzarella that was so fresh and tasty. All of the entrees had wine pairings and we got a glass each. The wine wasn't memorable but an option if you're interested. I went with the tagliatelle bolognese and it was so good. Great pasta, pretty great prices, gritty interior, and just the right amount of inconvenience (a fishtown specialty?). I say that because it's hard to get into Murph's, but like the reviews say: it's still worth the wait. I wouldn't recommend taking a big group from out of town though (unless it's a big group, which I think you can make a reservation for), since it can be difficult to lock in timing and a table. My friend and I came here and were seated at the bar. For pastas, we ordered the Pear & Cheese Fiocchi and the Tagliatelle with Filet. I really enjoyed both pastas and thought they were very flavorful. Also the prices are very fair. For drinks, we tried some of the seasonal cocktails. The pumpkin pie martini was a bit of a miss -- I didn't like it all that much. The apple harvest mule was pretty good though! Just another reminder that this place is cash only. This bar is confused! It's an Irish bar, serving Italian food, and playing hard rock. Love it! It's a cash only bar and it took awhile to get a seat. The waitress was friendly and quickly led us to our table. The melanzane was basic. Felt the flavors would be more than it was. Lobster ravioli was even worse. The lobster flavors didn't shine. Pear and cheese fiocchi came to the rescue. The pasta with the honey flavors enhancing it was excellent. The creme brûlée cheesecake was the best cheesecake I've ever tasted. While in town visiting my bff they suggested we have Italian Food and the best and affordable they know of so far is at Murph's. Upon arriving (late lunch/early dinner time) we learned it would be a 45 minute wait for a table. So, we decided to eat at the bar which luckily had an open space. We sat next to two people also dining at the bar. Service was amazing. The bartender was kind, professional, thoughtful, prompt, and basically gave us great service. Bff had pasta with a red meat sauce which was delicious and I got the Gnocchi Sorrentino, a large plate of gnocchi generously served with mozzarella, tomato and parmesan. Delicious food. My friend and I went to Murph's on a Friday night around 8 (walk ins only) and were so lucky to get seated immediately (lots of people on the waitlist were already eating at the bar). It's not a huge spot, but has high top tables for 2 along the wall in the bar area and some additional tables in the back. Unfortunately they didn't have the smoked mozzarella that night, but we did get the fried burrata for our appetizer and it was amazing. We also split a bottle of wine (good price) and split 3 pastas (good prices and portions - we had leftovers). Note- no substitutions. And finally we split the tiramisu and the limoncello dessert - both amazing and kind of great as a combo. I can't wait to come back and try more pasta! read more

This homey and no frills bar/restaurant absolutely surprised me!! You can sit either at the bar, two top high chair tables, or their regular tables. They also have an outdoor area in the back!! Their kitchen sometimes doesn't open until 1pm, but their bar is open anytime! The food was absolutely delicious!! The fried burrata was perfectly crispy on the outside and so creamy, juicy, and just purely delightful inside. It was topped with a marinara sauce, which added a perfect freshness to the dish. Casual place we sat at the bar it's small and from what I understand gets packed there is a little dining room ceiling in the back with some tables. The reason for the three stars is the grumpy Gus behind the bar. He told us he only listens when he's looking at you and then made every effort to avoid eye contact. I don't go out to eat to feel like I'm bothering the staff. I talked to some regulars and they said that's the norm with this guy.
