They arrest people for running out of gas and being over the fire lane in a private parking lot that is completely empty. Lied about having to show ID, when they could have just ticketed the vehicle. Never have I seen such low IQ law enforcement. read more

We called the police expecting help and received none. Apparently folks can hit your car and threaten you and those with you without consequence. They let a dangerous man off with nothing. Now I'm stuck paying for damages he created to my car. The Murphy Police are impotent. I will never trust them to help me in the future. read more

So just before midnight I hear a thud (my husband doesn't, but I mention it as strange), then about 30-60 seconds later we both hear what sounds like a GUN SHOT. I immediately (less than 15 sec) call the Murphy police and the dispatcher tells me that she already has 4 other reports of a a single GUN SHOT on our street and an officer is on the way. EIGHTEEN MINUTES later the patrol car finally arrives and simply drives down the street once. EIGHTEEN MINUTES!!! I call back and the dispatcher says that someone called in and said they saw a firework go off. Now maybe it was a firework, but a very special and unusual one that was only fired once on a non-holiday at midnight on a quiet street. In my experience fireworks come in a series. But I digress, we both know, and so do the other AT LEAST FOUR neighbors who called, what a GUN SHOT sounds like. When you ask if it is an EMERGENCY and FOUR people respond yes, it doesn't matter what the issue is an officer should be there within minutes. Especially in a small city with high taxes! EIGHTEEN MINUTES!!! Now, everyone involved tonight knows how to kill a spouse or neighbor in Murphy. Just shoot, then report that some fireworks woke you up and someone should stop it. Apparently in Murphy that report will immediately discredit the other 80% who called it a gun shot. Now you're free to clean and pack and run all night or maybe days before the truth is discovered. They not only did not talk to us or any other gun shot reporter, but weirdly did not talk face to face with the person who reported fireworks. Therefore, they don't know where the fireworks came from and there was NO INVESTIGATION of that either. VERY UNNERVING!!! At worst, I expected them to talk to the person who saw the fireworks, which no one knows who that is yet because it's 1 am. Or better yet, the one suspicious neighbor. We know it's not out of the ordinary, but a neighbor has had his garage door up and light on since the first time I saw this house. Not unusual for him, but you'd think the officer would take note And if not knock on the door, at least exit the car to look into the open and lit garage, maybe, maybe? Anything? NO INVESTIGATION!! Overall, I lost what little confidence I had left in the Murphy Police and Fire departments. They have recently been sued over the death of a small boy who was living yet pronounced dead several times. Their lack of protocol and resuscitation attempts caused the child's preventable death. Yes, if I have a "there's a burglar in my house" moment I'd call 911, but they still call my local police and fire. What kind of response if someone has a heart attack here? No investigation of what AT LEAST four people immediately called a gun shot because one person, the dispatcher actually said ONE PERSON, said it was a firework. Very interested to see what's in the news in the coming days. I pray it was a firework and we never know anymore about it or a neighbor fesses up, but I won't be shocked if it goes the other way. Not feeling terribly comfortable and sleep may elude me tonight. But the real problem is still EIGHTEEN MINUTES!!! P.S. I gave them one star because they answered the phone and gave me the little information they had, as well as the fact that a patrol car did enter the street. UPDATE! Talked to a neighbor down the streets and he could see the fireworks, and they were numerous and coming from behind his home, where we can't see. We couldn't hear the fireworks because we are further away. We heard one loud and long gun shot sounding pop. Our neighbor said that the people's house it was at frequently do this and he wouldn't be surprised if they had fired a weapon in celebration. They have several acres and are rowdy. Our proximity allowed us to hear the louder shot, but not the fireworks.. I mean I wouldn't have called the cops or worried had I heard multiple fireworks, even knowing there was a gunshot. Because I know it's celebratory in many cultures and the context would have fit. But again, it doesn't matter because EIGHTEEN MINUTES!!! Maybe they arrived closer to the action quicker, but the action wasn't that far and our neighbor could see. He didn't see cops immediately after the fireworks either,so still EIGHTEEN MINUTES!!! This is fine if you are busy, but so far there have been no reports of anything else going on in the city. So if you're doing nothing, why not respond quicker on the off chance it could save a life...part of what you are paid to do. But no, you'd rather hand out $200 fines to people for failure to change your address on your license. It's a money making machine, not a protect and serve agency! EIGHTEEN MINUTES!!! This place sucks. Back in 2006, I was at home, chatting with someone on the internet. After chatting with this individual for a day, I decided to go to her house in Murphy. I was only going to take her out to eat then go back to her house and play video games. So after I pulled up to the front of her house, she opened the front door, stood in the doorway and gestured for me to come inside. I did. Boy was that a mistake, in hindsight. After I walked into the house, I thought it was kind of strange that she didn't want to get very close to me. There was a pool table in the center of the living room and she made sure that we were always on opposite sides. Anyways, after just a few moments, some guy came out with a small stack of paper and asked me to "have a seat". I was unaware who this gentleman was, so I proceeded to talk with him for a few minutes. He then began to read from what he called the "chat log" that had accumulated over the course of me talking to this young lady on the internet. He began outlining several sexual things that I supposedly said to her. I didn't see anything wrong, then he pointed out that the girl was "under 18". Which still didn't bother me because I know she told me she was 18; I don't care what that chat log said. After a while, he told me his name was Chris Hansen and he was with Dateline NBC and a bunch of cameras came out. Being camera shy, I had decided it would be a good time to leave and try to get away as quickly as possible. I was thinking he was probably her dad, and since it's legal in Texas for everyone to carry a firearm, I didn't want to risk getting shot any longer. Well once I stepped outside, a bunch of police officers from Murphy ran up to me with their guns drawn, telling me to "get on the ground" and put my hands behind my back. I complied. Then they began to inappropriately frisk me and put me in handcuffs. Which was still fine with me because I didn't do anything illegal cause I know she told me she was 18. I was soon whisked away to the Murphy Police Station. The building itself was pretty nice-it looked brand new. However the people working there were not so cordial. They took me into a small room where I was interrogated. For some reason, they kept asking me about my "sexually explicit" chat I had with this young lady. I told them I would wait for an attorney because maybe he could explain my innocence a little better than I could. I was then taken down a long corridor where the booking rooms were. It was a small room that smelled like pee. It was pretty nasty: A big 180 from how the building looks on the outside. I was photographed, fingerprinted, and was told to take a shower. After all this was said and done, I was put in a cell for the night. The guards were not very polite and continually ignored me when I asked for something like food, water, something to read, a video game to play, whatever. The bastards even took away my cell phone! Anyway, the next morning, a buddy came up and bailed me out. I'm giving this place two stars only cause even though I don't like being on camera, I figured telling a prospective employer that I've been featured on a nationally syndicated television show would enhance my chances of employment. But the jail itself and the treatment for people who just like to talk to people who say they're 18 online is in desperate need of some work. read more

We have great police officers! If you're not ready to do the time, don't do the crime. You know ... from 4 to 6 pm there is no left turn into Wal-Mart. I guess some people can't read or they think it doesn't apply to them. Keep on keeping on and add to our city coffers. We can use the revenue to keep our property taxes down. read more

Some of these officers are a joke. My friend was ran off of Murphy rd into that 3 foot ditch where the old road was at 2am. The guy was in the turn lane at that light by the school and me and my boyfriend were in front of her coming up to the light when it was red. The boy claimed he was driving his 2 drunk chick friends home. Who I know were minors, and the kid driving was 17. (So he was already past curfew and they didn't get carded) The cops arrived in minutes. I told one of the officers arriving what happened and told him that I knew they were all drunk and that the driver might have some in their system. He not only told me they needed more then that to search and breathalize MINORS, they also did nothing about the 14 teenagers that showed up that weren't involved and were just fiddling around the whole time, and didn't even talk to the 2 girls in the truck that was involved who were clearly high and drunk. They wouldn't even get out of the car when they were there. Police are suppose to be smart enough to see the signs and those yet those dumb kids got away with it. I bet they didn't even write a report. If running a girl off the road being a minor and the girls wouldn't come out of the truck when the cops were there isn't suspicion enough then I've lost all hope in the justice system. I guess they really have not much do so they spend the majority of their time waiting for speeders and handing out meaningless violations to make quotas like most local cops. On June 10, 2013 I contacted the Murphy Police Department. I spoke with Ofc. Wenzel, he was very very helpful in my predicament, and answering the questions that I had.
