So far Murphy's has installed new Central Air and a new Gas Boiler at our home. I had a small bonus check so splurged on a Generac whole house 16kw generator. Again, Murphy's got the call. T\After six months the generator ended up having a magneto and power board issue. Very complicated to diagnose. Hats off to Dave Byrnes for sticking with the diagnosis flow charts and manuals to get to the bottom of the problem. And of course it was all outside work in cold weather! Murphy's should be your first and only call. Plumbing, heating, cooling, and now emergency power...they are terrific! read more

Unprofessional, Scam attempted but failed, Misrepresented relationship with manufacturer. Service man condemned the water heater with no diagnosing the problable cause. He said that I needed a new control board and that the tank was rotted out. He was out to sell us a new water heater when he walked through the door, he carried no tools or electronic meter to help see what was wrong. He spent two and a half hours in my driveway with his truck running saying he had a new AI program helping him with the problem and working up an $11,666.00 quote for a new heater that he wanted to install the next day. He didn't want no for an answer and kept coming back to the door to put some more pressure on us to agree to a new one. I called Robies and 20 minutes after they got to the house the problem diagnosed and was fixed. ($62.00 sensor switch) I have put a call in to the owner of Murphys 5 times since Friday and he has not had the courtesy to call me back. I disputed the $398.00 charge they gave me for a worthless service call with the credit card company an gave all the info regarding this to my Lawyer and filled a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau - Attorney General's Office. They tried to take advantage of two older people. read more

Avoid Murphy's HVAC on Cape Cod. Last year I used them for a routine annual HVAC cleaning and check-up. During the service they claimed a valve had a very slow leak because it "wasn't brazed properly." That valve had never been a problem before, but I agreed to their recommendation to replace it. They ordered the wrong part. After disconnecting the old valve they realized the mistake and left my entire system offline. I immediately told them I needed the correct part ordered overnight. It is common sense and practice for a company to look at the part and make sure it's correct before disconnecting the system. Instead they delayed for several days without even placing the order, forced me to keep calling, and claimed it would take about a week. I fired them, another company ordered the part overnight and installed it properly for less while doing a better job. A warning about their membership: it is a complete scam. After I canceled and was unenrolled last year, they still tried to charge me the annual membership fee again this year. The $175 charge only failed because I had changed my card number. The office was completely unapologetic about knocking my HVAC offline and wouldn't order the replacement part overnight. This company is completely unreliable . read more

Had a heat pump, 2 mini splits and a larger unit installed in April 2025. While the install was done timely and accurate pricing was provided ahead of time, and info needed for Mass Save rebate was provided as well, that was the extent of their involvement. I called at least twice in April 2026 to arrange for an annual maintenance check & have filters replaced. Was told someone would call back, but no return call over next month. Called again in May 2026, once again told I would get a call back. (Person on call obviously reading from a sale/service script.). Still no call. Sent email to the GM May 22, 2026. Reply from GM said one of two named persons would call me back and schedule someone to come and service unit; and discus a Comfort Plus Program. Now it is June 13 and still nothing. Ended up cleaning filters of indoor units myself (not difficult). Completely disgusted with the total lack of "customer service." There is no way I can see myself being "comfortable" with their supposed "plus" program. Very disappointed with post install and I cannot recommend them. read more

The plumber who serviced the job simply diognoised the problem without ever takig anything apart. Consiquently it cost me to order another cartige. Upon the plumber's return he did take out the cartage only to discover a missing rubber casket. By some odd coincidence the gascet was just sitting on top. All he needed to do, had he'd been conscientious, was to pull out the cartige in the first place which took all of 20 mins to see what he eventually discovered. I was charged an intial fee of $199 for the first visit and then an additional $336 for the second, totalling $535 for a 20 min fix. Buyer beware read more

I had a mini split system installed by Murphy's /barrett plumbing it failed and was told it would be $199 to look at it but it would be refunded if I had them do the work I had them do the work but they did not refund the $199 despite repeated calls and e mail and to top it off despite them installing the system and Parts were under warranty the would not warranty the parts and was told to deal with the manufacture myself as they don't do warranty just sell and install not what they said when I bought it from them bottom line don't buy a system from them as the will not warranty it and don't believe them when they say they will refund the inspection fee when you hire them to repair I learned the hard way you don't have to read more

I used this compamy for two seaons for heating and ac maintenance with no problems then I called wit a small plumbing repair. The technician quickly fixed the issue and showed ne the problem with a small plastic part. Then he insisted that I sign off on thr bill, which I thought was way too high. When I aked him to itemize labor and parts, he wouldn't but assured me that could be done through the office. I mistakenly trusted him. I called the office the next day, was treated with a snarky, bitchy attitude and was told the bill was what it was. I will never use Murphy's again and strongly recommend you review their feedbacks to see that what happened to me is their pattern of screwing customers. I am in the process of taking legal action against this company for deception and elder abuse. If I could, I would give negative stars to this absolute TRAVESTY of a company. We requested quote for two (yes, two) heating systems in our home. We were quoted $30K but with a $10K rebate. Boy, were we sold a bill of goods. September 2022 - Install was to last 2 days - Ended up to be 1 full week and was a comedy of errors; missing parts, mis-timed meetings with workers (within their own company), absolutely no customer service January 2023 and our system floods our attic and destroys our ceiling - install forgot a part. We were assured they'd fix and have ceiling redone. March 2023 - I called to inquire about ceiling repair and was SCOLDED by customer service. Don't bother to call, we'll let you know when we can get to it June 2023 - Finally received rebate - in the amount of $3700. Called to inquire. Was told paperwork needed to be resubmitted July 2023 - Called to find out what was going on. Still waiting. No word on ceiling repair August 2023 - Was told we were not eligible for the $10K. "Someone" should have told us. So, here we sit with a ruined ceiling and not the rebate amount promised. I wouldn't use this company again if they were sitting in my driveway and offering free service. TERRIBLE. I have used the predecessor company, Barrett's for years. They were personable and dependable. The new company is terrible. The promise of prompt service is a joke. I had a dishwasher replaced in an existing space and paid over $500 for 2 plumbing hookups. Murphy would not do the electrical, which I didn't learn until the service person showed up. I had to wait another two weeks between hiring an electrician and having the plumber come back at their convenience. I have heard the same complaint from neighbors. BIGGER IS NOT BETTER. June 23, 2023- I have used Murphy's multi times over the last several years. In the past, I had great service, communication and pricing. Today, I am extremely disheartened. I was informed that my a/c unit needed another motor even though it had been replaced two years ago under warranty. I was told that even though the new one was within the warranty window, it wouldn't be covered because warranty had already been used. Not great news but I can understand. I don't blame Murphy's for that, it is just a major defect in my a/c unit. Well, a new motor was ordered and it took two weeks to arrive. On appointment day, the technician, Tim D., arrived well after the text I had received from dispatch. Long story short, Tim left my house five hours later without fixing my a/c, putting a hole in my ceiling, signing my invoice stating that customer was satisfied with his work and repairs had been completed, said that someone from the company would call to set up an appt. for an electrician to fix the a/c and someone to fix the ceiling. A few hours later, I decided to call Murphy's instead of waiting for them. I left a message with their answering service during their work hours. I called an hour later to leave another message with another person. Still during their office hours. It is now the weekend and I am stuck with a broken a/c, a hole in my ceiling and I received their invoice for services that have not been completed. **This is not the same service or customer service I received from Murphy's in the past. I am starting to think Murphy's was sold to an investment company. June 26, 2023- Received an email about fixing my ceiling but not about fixing my a/c unit. I called and emailed the the general manager, Andrew Cannon, but haven't gotten a response. I have yet to have any of my phone calls returned from Alicia or anyone that could help me. We use Murphy's for our heating and a/c services...always professional and responsive. this recent time was for plumbing services due to a leaking kitchen faucet that required replacement, cutting of pipes, retooling a dishwasher connection etc. We had Chris, and he was excellent, showing me every step of the job what was the issue, cost, and what would be needed. he made great and knowledgeable suggestions as to type of faucet to purchase at a local supply company, plus explaining the reaso for what he was doing. wow this guy didn't even stop for a drink i offered...he said he'd drink when he finished...no breaks when he was focusing. he did a wonderful job, cleaned everything up like a wizard, and i felt so lucky to get him! we had a prior a/c install, tankless hot water install, and an outdoor shower repair that were also pleasant and easy experiences. highly recommend Murphy's ...been using since 2019. read more

I chose this company for a new system last january, which I completely regret . from the outset there was an issue with the new thermostat that service could never correct . the room read hotter than it actually was. they changed out the thermostat but didn't correct the issue I was told nothing could be done. several months ago I paid an additional 5 k ( on top of the 20k system ) to have heat and ac extended to a kitchen add on. the new space is consistently 7-8 colder than the rest of my small ranch house- unusable for longer period of time) I finally had a new service man come who seemed to understand the issue ( new to the company ) and was told to expect a call back on resolution . that was a month ago and since I'm writing this review you can accurately surmise that no one is responded to my multiples calls. I have never had such terrible service . 25k is a lot to send for a system that doesn't work! I feel sorry for the staff that answers the phone . They apologize , pass my message on , then apologize again when I call back a few days later when no one calls back . I think they're embarrassed to work there . I had a sensor failure in my furnace boiler that would not reset. No heat. Called Murphy's. They came next day and got the sensor reset. Told me I needed a new sensor and that they would see if they had one and would return next day. Also told me they would give me an estimate to replace three leaking zone valves and a few other furnace parts that needed replacement. Charged $225 for a service call. Never heard from them again. When sensor tripped again, about a week later, I called a different plumber and had everything fixed in about 3 hours. I guess Murphy's not interested in small residential jobs. I did give them 1 Star because the technicians were very professional, courteous and knowledgeable. read more

Avoid these guys. Service sucked, they just want to sell you a new boiler! I didn't have heat this winter for almost a week because the 3 way valve on my Navien boiler went. I told them what I needed, but when they finally came out (almost a week), the guy didn't even open the cover before telling me it was completely shot and it needed to be replaced. He immediately called Sales and scheduled an estimate. It was still under warranty, so the new boiler would be free! And here's the catch... they wanted $12000 to install it. I called another plumber. new 3 way valve... $300 installed. nothing else was wrong with it. They never even took the cover off, never diagnosed it, nothing. these guys are as scammy as scammy gets. read more

We had three new heat pumps installed by them back in Sept/Oct of 2022 to the tune of $50,000 plus - still fighting with them to get the promised rebate from MassSave. They have filed the rebate incorrectly and/or with missing information several times now - won't return calls - won't keep us updated on the status. They advertise on their website that they are the largest rebate provider on the Cape - but they don't seem to be able to get it right and get us the promised rebate. Would definitely NOT recommend them for anything at this point. read more

Murphy's may be the cause of death in my obituary when I die 20 years too young from a heart attack. When they perform services, the tech's are very nice and the final product always looks nice. However, we have had Murphy's install wall AC units and a tankless water heater running off natural gas, only to have a puddle start appearing in the basement from the opening for the AC tubing to exit the house, which led to a mold problem in our basement that we had to remediate. This was only a year and a half post installation. The boiler which was installed even more recently (Approx. year ago), now has corroded pipes that the tech who came to rework the opening to the house identified and said needed to be replaced. All this would be fine, if it wasn't for how outstandingly atrocious Murphy's communication is. Christine I appreciate your candor on the phone but for the love of god please take a course on calling customers back and not having them proactively reach out for EVERY call back. For god's sake we needed a tech badly, they said he would come the next day and he just NEVER SHOWED UP. Never called to say he wasn't coming NOTHING and we were sitting around waiting, delaying our drive back to NY calling the useless service that calls themselves a call center to find out if the tech was coming. Half the time since we aren't home when they come, they either show up without telling us a timeframe and when they go do their work knowing the lockbox code, they never even call after to say what they did, what they identified, etc. Murphy's needs a full time baby sitter just to make sure people get calls back. Literally having heart palpitations writing this review. If you live full time on the cape, it's probably more manageable but if you're a seasonal home owner stay as far as humanely possible away from this company. With scheduling they are an absolute mess and you're going to find yourself needing to go back time and time again for issues that get identified. This is fine again, if these issues don't arise non-stop earlier in the life of whatever it is they install for you. For additional context, we also just had to have Gary go back to the home because of the corroded pipe, and the communication was so awful that he went to the house this morning and just noted there's no leak (which is not what he got sent for), did NOT call about going to the house until I emailed later that afternoon, and now have been waiting for a call back. read more

In June 16 the tech came to do the semi annual service - checking everything, including the 4 AC units. Two weeks later, we have a leak from one of the AC units located over our kitchen ceiling. The auto switch is completely rusted out as is the metal Pan the AC 7 it is set on. The kitchen Ceiling is damaged, the floor was damaged - the AC isn't work8mg. Is. I called multiple times two,days in a row. Had them come to give me a quote for a new boiler and hot water heater. Estimator was nice enough but not thorough. Just looked around, didn't really measure or take notes of project like other companies did. He said he would send me the quote the next day since he was leaving for vacation. Never heard from him. Waited a week and called the office. Office staff also was nice enough, but couldn't give me an answer on if the quote was in the system or not, and told me to check my email spam folder. Waited another 2 weeks, still no quote. Called again, got told to check my spam folder AGAIN... and that they would email the estimator to see if the quote was done. You have to wait for a call back that never happens. NO communication with the install department. I called the woman Christine in this department 10 times during the process and not once did she call me back. Murphy's installed my hvac in 2012. During the install i had discovered that to run the refrigerant lines into the basement from 2nd floor the crew hacked into a supporting joist (at mid-span no less - i'm a Civil eng btw). I had to remedy that by scabbing on additional support in order to carry the design load. I also later discovered (maybe 2015) that there was no covering on external refrigerant lines going out to exterior unit that serviced the fujitsu wall units. This caused premature degradation of the insulation covering the refrigerant lines from UV exposure. Of course, with degraded and non-existent insulation, the system does not run as efficiently as it otherwise should. Latest discovery was this winter when i discovered during an extended power outage (welcome to Cape) that the 1st floor forced air unit was wired into a circuit on main panel rather than a circuit on sub-panel serviced by generator. (I had to rig it to circuit serviced by generator in order to heat 1st floor). As with the degraded insulation, i left messages with Murphy's to point out the problem and they didnt return any of those calls (figured they're ducking their poor installation). Besides all these problems i called again to have them come out and take a look at degraded installation and the NON-EMER visit is a flat $249, in spite of fact i pointed out again the lack of protection. In short, find yourself a better installer. read more

I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. They recently sent someone out to give me an estimate to install a kitchen sink and it came back at $8600! They wasted my time just to mess with me. Don't ever use Murphy's Services, Inc.. All they want is your money, and up yours if they screwup. We used them for an installation of a heating system. We chose them because they were able to get us the system we wanted at a fair price. We had 3 bids, they were not the cheapest or the most expensive. All bidders had the same rating. The contract stated that we would give 1/2 up front, ¼ when work began and the last ¼ when we accepted that the installation was finished. We originally were all set for them to start on Wednesday, April 7th, but they moved it to the next day. They would be finished in 2 days. April 9th, about the time they were supposed to finish, we were informed of two things: 1 - The electrician wasn't going to make, and 2 - Someone had ordered the wrong part and the installation couldn't be completed until they were able to get it. This was Friday evening. We would not have heat or hot water for an indeterminate amount of time. No call from a manager to apologize or let us know when they would have the part, nothing! OK, so no heat or hot water Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. We want heat. We want to wash. Shower? We are on our own to figure that out. Again, no call, no communication whatsoever. April 12th, they show up with out informing us that they got the part, let alone they would be at our door before 8am. The part was installed, and the electrician showed up around 2pm to hook us up. He finished about an hour or two later. Did not talk to us other than to say "your all set" as he, literally, ran out the door. We assumed that it would work. Received an email with a receipt for the ¾ that we had paid and request for final authorization to pay the rest. We were not given any manuals, or the warranty information, nothing. We were told by the installers that it was set up as it should be. No instruction as to what that was. I was not going to authorize that final payment. That night the heat would not come on, the system was not working. The temp had dropped to 63 deg. Called Murphy's service, was told that it would cost $199 to have someone come out to fix! I went ballistic and the girl who answer agreed to send someone out and work out the billing with the installation dept. The gentleman who arrived was not happy about having to come out. After about 90 minutes he figured out that the electrician did not connect the thermostats properly!!!!! May 3rd, I called customer service to ask for the manual and any other paperwork we should have. I was told that they probably left it somewhere and I should look for. It was nowhere to be found and informed them so. I also complained about the installation taking so long and was made to feel it was MY FAULT!! And, that I should be more understanding! (?) I was the one without heat or hot water. May 11th, Called again. Was told they were getting the paperwork together and would get it to us. And, that her boss would give us the first service for free. She initially said that was $500 but later said $299. That is not what a motel room cost to stay warm or get a shower!!!!! I asked for her boss and got his voice mail. He never called back. May 12th, called again, asked for the general manager. Was told he was in a meeting. Left message. The GM did call me back later that day, promised that he would do right by me and the trouble I had been through. Later that day I got and email from him with the manual, warranty information, and rebate acknowledgement attached. May 14th, the GM called to make sure I got the everything he sent and to say that he would get with his installation manager and that either he or the manager would get back to me by that Monday. May 24th, having not heard from I called customer service and was told the GM was out of the office. I was informed that Murphy's had charged the final payment without any authorization. read more

Run! I should have read the reviews. Communication with the customer related to projects is almost nonexistent and calls "referred" to the parts department go to a black hole. Almost all work done by them in the last 8 months required additional work - faucets still dripping, "frozen" shower head, etc.. This past week was the last straw. Boiler suffered hard lockout so I called. Technician "thought" it was a particular part so I agreed to the part replacement - between the 2 visits about $1000. Two days after replacement, had no hot water and another lockout. Called another company who found a burned out ignition piece. Another Ripoff, that's it. The technician stood in the closet, where the heating unit is, his back to me and on his cell phone. After over an hour, because they can charge for additional time, he then comes out and states that he doesn't know what the problem is. That will be $260. You don't know what the problem is sir? Right. I FIXED THE PROBLEM MYSELF. The electronic panel had a flashing light, on the back of the metal panel removed is a diagnosis of those flashing lights. I bought the part on e-bay. You can tell the negative reviews are from people who demand immediate service, don't know how pricing works, or don't know how to listen. Murphy's has repeatedly came out and fixed our problems, and has done so quickly and at a great rate. Everyone was great, except for the woman Alicia on the phone who was incredibly snarky and rude. The service men came out and fixed our ac and our heat and both times we have been incredibly happy and have not paid anytning over expected. My experiences with "Murphy's Air Conditioning, Heating and Plumbing"are the worst that I have had with any contractor or vendor in my 73 years. They have lied, misled and made repeated promises that they have never lived up to. This is a dishonest company. I went to them to replace an oil-based heating system with a gas heating system plus central air. They talked me into going with a heat exchanger instead of an air conditioning unit. I agreed even though it was more expensive. They presented their package as an integrated "system." Far from it: it has proven to be a haphazard collection of units from different manufacturers that don't work together properly. After numerous complaints from me, they announced that they could fix the problems by replacing one or more components, but only if I paid for the replacements to the tune of $5,000 or so over and above what the original system cost!!! SO, the company sold me a batch of units and then told me that if I bought replacements for part of them, I would end up with a system that would work properly! Incredible! One day in November, I came home to find cold air blowing through the house with the thermostat at 62 degrees and dropping. After looking around but not seeing anything I could do, I called Murphy's and told them that I had a problem and everything was under warranty. I was told that I would have to wait until the following Monday for warranty work because since it was Friday afternoon, they were only serving "paying customers." SO, I had a bunch of equipment bought from and installed by Murphy's, but I wasn't a "paying customer!!" I turned the thermostat down to 32 degrees and spent the weekend bundled up. A technician came out that Monday. He told me that what was going on was that the thermostat, made by one company, was telling the heat pump, made by another company, to run and produce heat but the heat pump had a "bad board" so it would turn on and then off. Meanwhile, the thermostat told the air blower made by yet another company to blow air that the heat pump was supposed to be producing. The heat pump kept cycling on and off while the blower kept blowing what was now cold air. I asked the technician why the "system" didn't switch over to gas heating mode since the heat pump was obviously not working and he said that the in the "system" that Murphys had installed, the different pieces didn't communicate properly to be able to do that. I asked him how to switch over to gas heat manually. He told me that the thermostat had a setting for that, but when he looked at it he said that the thermostat didn't match the rest of the "system" and didn't have that option. He then showed me a switch on the blower in the basement that did that. The technician called Murphy's and then told me that the company had spare boards "back in the shop" and that someone would be back in a day or so to install the new one. SIX MONTHS LATER, I have NOT heard ONE WORD from the company about fixing the heat pump! When I called, I was told that someone would get back to me. No one ever did! I was promised from the day I signed the contract that by the time the "system" was installed, someone would come out to give me a "lesson" in how to use it. This promise was repeated multiple times during the year (yes, a year!) it took Murphy's to complete the installation. Things like how to do heat setbacks on the thermostat, what options there were, etc. When I look at the units in the basement, I see a container filled with some sort of chemical. Is that something that has to be changed periodically? Are there any air filters that need to be replaced? But MORE THAN A YEAR LATER, they have NEVER actually come to do the training! So I am still flying blind. I was told that after everything was in place, I would be offered a maintenance contract that would include annual inspections/ maintenance/etc. I was told this several times. But MORE THAN A YEAR LATER, this has NOT happened! My old system had three zones, one in the living room which was an addition onto the house, a second for the rest of the first floor and the third for the upstairs. Murphy's "designed" a two-zone system, one for downstairs and one for upstairs. When I asked why the downstairs zones were merged, I was told it would work fine and that when the installation was complete, they would "balance the system." MORE THAN A YEAR LATER, they have NEVER done so. So throughout this winter, the living room has been a consistent 4-6 degrees colder than the rest of the house, running 64-66 degrees with the thermostat set to 70. I spend more time in the living room than I do in any other room in the house. Murphy's was required to remove the old oil furnace and the oil tank from the basement once the new system was in place. They repeatedly promised to do so. It is now 15 MONTHS since the oil burner was shut down for good and they STILL have no removed them!!! read more

Called Murphy's because the furnace they installed several years ago was giving an error code and would not start. When I called the person who answered the phone rudely told me the cost just to have it diagnosed which I felt was high oh, plus a fuel surcharge and that they need a credit card number up front. Ok, whatever, at least they had someone over that day who diagnosed the furnace and determined it needed a new gas valve. Why the gas valve failed on a system a few years old is a bit curious but he said it was under warranty and someone would call to schedule to replace the part. That's where the goodness ends. 2 days later I haven't heard back from them and sent a text message. No response. 3 days later on Monday sent another message. No response. Finally called them on Wednesday, a week later and spoke to someone who then switched me to the parts department. ??? They of course did not answer. Called back again, getting pissed and I think the answering service answered because she said no one was available to speak to. Finally, later that morning someone called my wife to say they would be there tomorrow to install the part...this is 8 days after the first visit. Even though the part was under warranty I still had to pay to have it installed plus a 100.00 dispatch fee?? (Wtf), oh, and of course the fuel surcharge. These guys need to get their sh*t together. I called them yesterday morning to ask if they do service on a specific brand of AC. After waiting on hold for literally 10 min (I wish I was kidding), they girl came back and said, "yes - we do. But before I can set you up with an appointment I need your personal info and billing credit card." Ok.. seems reasonable enough. Well, after another 10 min of repeating and repeating my info to a girl who simply wasn't listening, I was finally told that "I was up on the board" and someone else would contact me to set up the appointment. Well as of this morning I hadn't gotten a call from anyone about scheduling the appointment, so I called them back. When I spoke with the woman this morning I asked when I could expect my appointment. She said, "well you are up on the board... but wait a second. It says 'cancel.'" What?? So after being put on hold she comes back and says, "oh. The dispatcher says that she called and left you a message yesterday that we couldn't do it." Really? She called me? Funny, as I never had a missed call nor a vm. And if she had already called me, why would my ticket still be up on their "board?" So I wasted a day waiting, and then got to be lied to when I called back.... These guys stink. read more

Called because of a burner problem. They came next day and cleaned ignitor. Reasonable price and fast service.

I called this company to come out and look at my AC because it wasn't running. I paid over $700.00 for them to come out the first time. They put in replacement coolent and replaced a part. They never told me the compressor was clogged. After calling them 3 times to try and schedule a return visit they finally came out and I was charged another $170.00 and I still did not have any AC. They told me I needed a whole new unit for upwards of $4000 and they would get me a written estimate which I am still waiting for a month later. I called another company and they came out, told me exactly what I need. I showed them the invoice from Murphy's and they said I was taken advantage of. Don't ever use this company. read more
