I haven't reviewed Christopher because he's been my secret weapon for over a year now. I moved to midtown and was looking for a new stylist. I had walked by the salon so many times when going to dinner or grabbing drinks and I loved the look of the salon, so I called Muse. The receptionist asked what I was looking for and recommended Christopher, I'm so glad she did! Christopher really takes his time to ask what you want. I always show him pictures of cuts or color I like because I'm so bad at explaining, and he recommends what he thinks would work best for my hair type and facial features. He also considers maintenance and grow out which I really appreciate. He's a magician with color, I swear! He gave me the prettiest blonde hi lights that have grown out into a killer ombré. I haven't had touch up my color since I got them in March! He takes his time to make sure you are both happy with the results, pays attention to detail, and makes you feel at ease. Wow. First of all, what a beautiful salon + super welcoming and amazing team! I'm a recent transplant from the east coast, and finding someone to handle my hair was one of the things I feared most about being in a new city. At home my best friend was my stylist, so some high expectations ;) Located on R street, I was lucky to meet my stylist Jack as he was walking by my work. Jack did some fantastic color work, hair cut and blow out for me. He is super patient and provides an excellent consult to to fully understand your wants plus to manage your expectations. THIS PLACE WAS FABULOUS! I used to go to a salon out in Rocklin, until my lady quit about 4 years ago. Since then I've been on the hunt for a good place I would like and someone to trust with my hair. And it doesn't help that I'm EXTREMELY picky. I wanted to choose a place downtown since I work in the area, and I found Muse. I had read about them on yelp and decided to give them a try. I had passed by a few times while hanging out at Shady Lady and a few dinners at Burgers and Brew, but never realized they were a salon. My appointment was at 4:00pm and I was able to find parking right away which was a major plus. I went in to see Nicholas for a full hair color. I had the "ombre" highlights done at another salon in downtown but it was starting to fading into a brassy blonde color, so I definitely needed a change. I explained to him I wanted an all over chocolate brown color with red undertones. He came out with some swatches and he showed me the color he was thinking of and I loved it. I was a little nervous at first cause I wasn't sure if it was going to turn out the way I wanted, but I was wrong. It came out better than I had imagined it would! This place is tiny! I thought I walked into the wrong place at first because there was no one there to greet me. My blow out appointment was scheduled for a Saturday afternoon, so (metered) parking was easy to find (I'm always nervous about parking). $30 for a blow dry was the most reasonable I found in the area. Although customer service was nice, I wasn't amazed by the results. Not enough curls and horribly styled bangs (you know the ones that curl up towards your face?), although I'll give some credit for the volume. Bangs can make or break my day and I had to restyle myself at home; never a good sign. I'll continue my search for a local holy grail blow out. I've been working with her for almost two years, and Erin has totally changed my hair. When I've seen previous stylists, they've seemed stressed or annoyed by how much hair I have (it's a lot --- I can't overstate). Erin made me feel like my hair was a beautiful gift and not a pain. She's changed my hair so much --- it's healthier, and in great shape and never looks out of control. Curly girls will appreciate the way she freehands and styles things both wet and dry. My first trip to Muse happened by way of a Groupon. Akela gave me my first cut and it was fantastic. She's helped me manage getting my layers back to normal after a botch job at another salon. Let me just start off by saying that I have a toddler. Nothing in life is simple or easily planned. So I called Muse about three times with questions and scheduling changes for the same day. Totally last minute, but they were very accommodating and extremely nice about it. I have wavy/curly hair and my daughter has very curly hair. I had read reviews about Erin & asked if I could see her. I was told that she left Muse about 6 weeks ago, but there was now Cole (short for Nicole) who has curly hair and can cut curly hair as well. I had wanted to have my hair and my daughter's hair cut, but due to scheduling issues (with me and a sitter), I was unable to do this, so I just made the appointment with Cole for myself. Cole was very nice and pleasant. She didn't take off too much hair (only 2" when I was certain at least 4 would be taken off). She listened to literally everything I said I wanted even though I was certain I couldn't get exactly what I wanted (as I never have been able to get before). She looked at all my pictures, she checked with me before doing things, she explained what she was doing with each step, and she gave me an awesome head massage while conditioning my hair. Lol. I'm the observant type - I like to people watch. So I was watching all the workers there and they all seemed sooooo friendly. I did not detect one bit of snubbish attitude from those people, which I have detected at just about every other hair salon I've ever been to. It's one of those "if you're not in, you're out" kind of snubbish things and when you're a brand new customer, you feel very out of place in those environments. One of the workers was doing something that I found odd with the gloves, but it had to have a purpose. So I asked Cole what it was for and she explained, however, because the hair dryer was on, I had to say it somewhat loud and he heard me too. He looked over and smiled and then as he passed he made a funny remark about why he has to do that with the gloves. A simple gesture like that, makes you feel like you're in a relaxed, chill environment and I loved that. Back to my hair... Like I said, Cole listened to everything I wanted and my hair came out amazing. I've never really liked it when my hair is blown dry and styled that way. My hair frizzes easily and I've always felt like my hair would get frizzy within an hour of the finished cut. This time it didn't. I know she used some product, so it may have been that, but whatever it was, it worked, and that's all that matters. I absolutely love my hair and received a ton of compliments all day. With other cuts, I've received the "You got your hair cut!" and that's about it. This time it was "What did you do to your hair, it's so cute!!!" She cut so little hair off, that people thought I had simply styled my hair differently. They just knew that it was a new style and cute, cute, cute. When I told them it was cut, then they started realizing that I had side bangs added & such. All in all..... I was very pleased with this place and Cole. She recently began employment at Muse. She previously worked in Roseville, commuting from Sacramento, so having received a spot at Muse was great because it lessened her commute & even allowed her to bike into work. She is gaining her clientele now, so grab a spot before she's booked! read more

Ahhh where to start. This salon is amazing. Right when i found it I fell in love with it and I can't wait to come back. I worked with Brittany to style my hair for my cousins wedding and she did such an amazing job. She listened to exactly what I wanted and executed it perfect. I'm very happy with how it came out and I would love to work with her again in the future. I love how this salon really goes above and beyond to deliver the best service to their clients. It really shows. When I was sitting there getting my hair done, I just saw the love and passion that came from everyone working with their clients. I've been a client for a long time, and lots of my friends are as well. I loved Nicholas!! I had my first-ever blowout recently and he did a fantastic job. I barely even explained how I wanted my hair to look, but kind of told him to do his thing and add lots and lots of volume. A lot of places struggle with this when it comes to my strands, which are super slippery and fine. But Nicholas worked quickly and confidently, and I loved what he came up with. Bouncy, loose waves and volume to the max. I would get this done everyday if I were rich. I have a blowout addiction with Sabrina De Marco. I love her technique where she sections my hair, uses specific round brushes to blow dry and set each section leaving my hair full of volume. The staff are nice and the complimentary lemon infused water is refreshing. I also really like the decor! I swear she is the best and the only one I will EVER let touch my hair again! The only down side is the parking. It really is horrible. I don't like writing bad reviews - it pains me! But I want to know of good and bad experiences when I read reviews - so here it goes... When I moved to Sacramento at the end of 2012, I was looking for my go-to hair spot. I have big curls and need coloring routinely (so many greys!). Read reviews for this spot, it was close by - so I gave it a try. I work long hours and needed to make a Friday 7pm appointment. They were cleaning up when I got in - and you could the girl I made an appointment with was in a rush! Friday date? Maybe and I totally get it - but I only have time for this hair appointment and was hoping they could be accommodating as promised when I called! But - the color was not what I wanted (how hard is brown?!) and she was rushing through so much that I ended up leaving with wet hair. She had a hard time working the computer to charge me (the place is small and the equipment minimal) - so after all that rushing and checking her cell phone a bunch - we sat and waited for the receipt to print. It didn't. So with no final receipt, my wet hair and I went home. Not ideal and I wont pay for that again! Hopefully others had a better experience than me! read more

Such a wonderful experience. My daughter finally convinced us to cut off ER hair. We were in the area and asked if they took walk in. The hostess was very accommodating and gladly penciled is in. Cole was very patient with my daughter and treated her like a big girl. They had little cuties, chocolate chip cookies and fresh citrus water. I enjoyed my time at Muse. The only thing I didn't totally love when i left was my coarse hair sprayed gelled down blow out. It left my hair limp weighted way down and feeling dirty not oily but harsh and dirty. I like my blow outs super silky with a bouncy curl. The amazing hair artist i saw was SUI he is great. i am going to return and give him a little more insight on what i want. He was genuine and listened to my thoughts on my hair. I think our connection got crossed when i started to ramble about how I wanted my hair styled. But i know he is receptive and will work with me. I had recently moved up to the area from southern CA not too long ago, and have been on the hunt for a new stylist. I just had my hair done today at Muse after having found them off of Yelp, and I'm in love. I had called the day before to schedule an appointment, and was put with Christopher. I have nothing but great things to say about Christopher and the salon! He did a great job listening to my requests as well as giving some of his thoughts as to what would look best for me. As a hairdresser I think it's safe to say that we can all be very nit picky with our hair, but I love, love, love what he did with it. He made me feel so comfortable and relaxed from the moment I walked in and I felt so pampered (thank you for that). It was a really good break and was desperately needed. The shampoo (which is my FAVORITE part of any service) was to die for...I was melting in the bowl from that massage, I would totally come back just for that and can say I look forward to that for another service lol. Now a lot of people may think they're a bit pricy, but I think it's worth it, and a great price for the level of quality and technique they put throughout your whole service. You can tell all the stylists here know what they're doing, and just from talking w/ my stylist...they're all educated and big on education which is always something you want. Think of it as an investment to having awesome hair. I only came here for a haircut, but will definitely be returning! I think I've found my salon lol. I unfortunately have not even made it to the salon and my service was not acceptable. I was emailing a lady named Stephanie in regards to possibly using them for my wedding day hair in May 2012. I started the correspondence at the end of September 2011 to get some prices on hair style costs for me, the mother of bride and groom, and my bridesmaids, which she gave me. Stephanie was very helpful at this point and I thanked her for her time and emailed all my bridesmaids mentioning I was thinking about going with this place for my hair, as long as the trial wasn't a nightmare. Most of the girls were all for going to this place on the wedding day as well. So fast forward to this week, I sent another email stating I was hoping for a bridal hair trial for Saturday, December 3rd and Stephanie responded by saying that they were free and asked a couple questions about my wedding and said what I should bring to the trial, i.e. pictures and veil, etc. I answered the questions about my wedding and stated that I had emailed her already about it and she stated that the price was $65 for a trial and I asked if that was still correct? Stephanie responded by saying, "I do remember us having previous correspondence regarding your wedding back in September, however our pricing has changed a bit since then; Bridal Trials are now $85 and the day of $125" I was shocked and told her one of the main reasons I was hoping to book them was because they had competitive prices, but now they do not! She didn't even offer me the price we had talked about a little over a month prior, so I ended up canceling my appointment. She had also mentioned that since their bridal business was booming they decided to raise their prices. So....you're doing so well right now you decide to charge everyone more? I know that happens with businesses, but stating it to a potential client was very unprofessional. I guess they didn't need my business or the business of my friends and family which I would have been happy to recommend. read more

Fantastic talent, customer service was above and beyond wonderful! I scheduled a hair and makeup appointment for my engagement photos in Old Town Sac and they fit me in even though I waited until the day before to call. Mili is Muse's newest stylist from New york and she is phenomenal! Mili gave me a sassy new cut and styled it to give it some bounce and volume. Hands down it's the best cut I've ever had. Mili also did my makeup for me and I have to admit I was a little worried because I don't wear a ton of makeup, but she didn't disappoint. The makeup was classy and turned out great in photos! I was so excited (and running a bit late!) that I completely forgot my purse at the salon. By the time I realized it the salon was closed and I was freaking out because my fiance and I are from out of town and the salon was closed the next day. I called Mili and she put me in touch with the receptionist Rachel. She came in after she was off just to let me get my purse and save the day! I cannot say enough great things about Cole! I was somewhat traumatized from a previous stylist trying to cut an A-line, but Cole assured me she knew what she was doing - and boy did she ever!!! Let me put it this way... It took Cole two hours to fix the disaster the previous stylist left... I ABSOLUTELY love my hair! There are so many great reviews for this place for a reason! He makes sure to give me a cut and color that works for me... and that will keep my hair strong and healthy.
