I was hoping to give a better rating because the staff were friendly, store was clean and inviting. Unfortunately, the overall experience was less than I would have hoped or expected. I went in because I had bought a living social deal and was excited to have a print that was purchased that came with a less than classy frame. I had an existing print that I wanted the new print to feel like a set or at least belonged together on the same wall. I knew this wasn't going to be a simple frame job and could potentially take some time. The existing frame I had that I wanted to match was from a different vendor, so the likelihood that they could order the exact frame was not a priority and I will give it to them, they did do some research and made every attempt to get it but was unable to. So the new choice of frame complimented the existing nicely. One thing that bothers me, when someone says they will call or email me by a certain time I would expect that to happen, even if to only say there is no update. Because this project took three months, there was a number of times where I had to call just to get an update or find out where we were at. The day came for me to pick up the project. One of the criteria I had given them was to make the frame the same size, even though the print was a different size, making up in the size of the matte. Well, the frame was a different size. They offered to correct it but that's just wastefull and frankly I wanted to be done. So I paid and we left. When I thought the experience was over, about two weeks later I received a letter from the store. While I paid what I thought was the balance, apparently I did not. I don't mind paying what is due, but it's just one more sign that this particular store needs some help in the attention department. read more

I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. I came into the shop to have some of my husband's certificates framed for his office. The employee who greeted me and worked with me was very patient and knowledgable. I didn't feel rushed picking out what would look best. He gave great advice when I asked for his opinion as well. After we settled on a mat, glass type, and frame, the employee rang up my order. It was a smooth process. He entered my info into the computer and quoted a price for me. He then gave me a timeline for the work to be finished. Turnaround time for the framing to be finished was fairly quick and the quality of work was amazing! You would expect by the company's name it would equate with quality work. Not so in my experience. I brought them an artwork that was very important to me and was quite a sacrifice to pay for.from my savings. When it was completed I could tell immediately that it was not centered. The manager told me that I could expect it not to be centered even if they did the work over. I had them try again - it was NOT centered in the frame. I found her to be rude and uncaring about their quality of work. I will have it fixed somewhere else. I have had numerous custom framings and never such a poor experience! read more

I am both a fairly-serious amateur photographer and an reasonably dedicated art collector, both passions of mine that eventually often lead me to require framing services. In the past, I don't think I had any real idea what expert framing services could truly offer. Previously, when the need arose, I typically made my way to other framing shops in town such as Artco, Michael's or Joanne's. I don't really know why I never before asked Museum Quality on Proctor for help, but I cannot overstate how totally thrilled I am that beginning a year or two ago I found them. My framing needs run the spectrum from the fairly simple and inexpensive I'd-like-to-frame-this-family-vacation-photo to reasonably valuable items of art - paintings, prints, etc. by artists whose works can and do hang on the walls of well-known museums. Simply put, done well, I now have learned working with the folks at MSF, that framing is, itself, truly an art. I had NO idea what an expert framer could bring to the table until I starting bring my material to this store. Honestly. I have come to feel so strongly about this subject that I have just about concluded any item for display can be made to shine or fail flatly depending upon the frame and presentation job. Museum Quality Framing in Tacoma has uniformly delivered for me all that I could possible hope to see - and never, ever could on my own imagine. Every single item that I have had worked on there truly shines. In fact, now that I know what the staff at this store can offer, I even determined it worth the additional expense to bring one or two items previously matted and framed at the other frame outlets mentioned and had them re-done here. No. They weren't "bad". But in comparison, after the applied expertise of the framers at Museum Quality, it's now clear: the Museum Quality work is just, well, "right" and really does make any object framed show itself in the best possible way. Is this a good review? You bet. And, frankly, I'm pretty hard to please, and I wouldn't give it unless I felt I could stand by my words, and I do. In fact, I'm now literally at a point where I'd be comfortable simply dropping off whatever I might have to frame and simply say to the staff at the store, "you decide what is best to do", knowing fully-well that I'm totally useless in front of a rack of frames and mats with a photo or a print to frame. At the very least, they have regularly guided me to the best result. I have complete confidence - and, I really do not say this lightly - that Museum Quality Framing on Proctor in Tacoma and the staff there will bring out the best there is in anything I might have to frame and display. As mentioned, I have come firmly to believe that framing is an an art requiring experienced and tuned expertise. There is no doubt in my mind: the Tacoma store staff will help anyone to find the right home for any framing subject, from the inexpensive item to the very valuable work of art. They will all look great. There are a couple of additional things I'd like to mention, and they are this: Don't be put off by an expectation that quality framing needs to be prohibitively expensive. It doesn't. Or put another way, unless one is going to simply buy an off-the-shelf frame - a perfectly legitimate thing to do in the right circumstance - once you've decided to custom frame any object, art or otherwise (a football jersey comes to mind, or a school auction project, etc.) - doesn't it make sense to go to the best around for about the same price? Museum Quality has exceeding my expectations every time. I'm just about convinced they can make ANYTHING look great! (BTW - have a good off-the shelf or vintage frame? Great. But do not underestimate what the right matting treatment can do for your work. They'll do that as well. Finally, and I recognize that this might not be a concern of too many folks, but I have also come to find that MQF is a full-service operation. In the year or two that I have been going there, I have had the need to find the services of dependable, quality paper conservators as well as folks who can do repairs on vintage frames. The folks here offer or have ready access to all these things, and, for me, just that has been a huge relief. To sum, if I now need to frame or mat something for display, from the latest snapshot of my kids; give a gift of art or photography to friends, expensive or not; or find the right treatment for something that can easily hang in the Seattle or Tacoma Art Museums, this part of my job is done. Recently she framed a study for a painting done by New York based painter Lucien Dulfan. It was an image given me by the artist years ago and quite neglected. I went in here for the first time a few weeks ago and had the worst experience. I needed a mat made for a frame I had purchased- I was trying to put a bunch of baby photos and some recent ones together for my moms birthday. I was totally clueless about frame size and dimensions, but that is exactly why I went to a professional- for help. The owner here was no help at all, shot down my idea, created something that was noooothing like I had described, and overall just made me feel so stupid. I'm only 19 so I don't have much experience with framing- just wanted help in creating this gift for my mom. In the end I ended up just going to artco. There they told me exactly what frame I needed for my photos (because the one I had originally purchased was too small) and created a mat EXACTLY like I wanted for a waaaay better price. I will never be going back to museum quality framing and be a returning costumer to artco! read more

Looking at the other reviews, I was sorry to see that they didn't have good experiences, because I have ONLY had positive experiences at MQF. The staff has always been friendly, reliable, knowledgeable, and determined to make sure I (the customer) am satisfied. I've had two framings done so far, one for an important document and one for an oversized poster that needed special attention. They made sure I was getting what I wanted and also that I got the best for the cost. Yes, it's pricey, but any locally owned business will be a little more costly than a big department store framing service. However, I prefer to support local businesses and get a more personal experience, rather than just being another face in the crowd. Over the years, I have had several projects done at MQF Proctor. My most recent project was for the dining room and had to be impressive enough to "carry" its space over the sideboard. We worked with Gina who did a great job for us. She gave us a very good design and worked with us to modify it for our specific needs and taste. She has a very good "eye." I got a living social deal and was getting some mats from pictures to make them standard size to get cheap frames. The man that helped me seemed put-out to need to help me and that I wasn't spending more or getting custom frames. He seemed annoyed to be helping me. When I got my mats one of them was too big to fit into the standard frame the whole reason I was getting the mats. When I called the lady was rude and did not even apologize. She offered only to cut it in store, I refused, I don't want to have to go back to that store for any reason. I will go else where from now on. read more
