This tour was Awsome!! Edith was so informative and happy to give the tour. Nothing better than someone who enjoys what they do and have enthusiasm for it. In my opinion it was worth every penny to have a fun relaxing 1 hour cart ride. The cart was extremely comfy and the ear pieces provided sounded great so we could hear everything she said clearly. This is a great tour to take if you like to know the inside information about this wonderful town of Charlevoix. The guide was very informative on all the ins and outs, the beaches, where we could find the Petoskey stone, where the good restaurants were and all the history behind the enchanting and very unique Mushroom Homes. Terrible business that is destroying the privacy of homeowners across Charlevoix. Tour is inaccurate and not worth the steep price. Not to mention the obscene lack of respect they show people just trying to go about their every day lives. Shame on them. read more

We went on this tour a few years ago and enjoyed it very much! Why are people so mean about someone that came up with a great idea and are making money. We didn't harass any tourist or people that were in the neighborhood so I'm not sure what the road comments are all about. read more

I feel so badly for the homeowners who have to put up with these tours! During our tour one group of homeowners even got mad at the tour guide for loitering in front of their house - I don't blame them! Wish I could have gotten off right then and there. It was so uncomfortable! read more

Had a very nice time with our group of six friends on a tour of early 20th century architect Earl Young along the coast of Lake Michigan in Charlevoix Michigan. Edith was our tour guide and had a fun and informative personality for this type of work. Very reasonable cost and tour took a bit more than an hour or so. We toured the road along these houses. They are privately owned but we stopped close enough to talk about each place ans get some nice pictures. Step back in time when a man with a dream and drive could accomplish great things with his hands and imagination of a magical village. read more

Very disappointed that they did not enforce masks during COVID. I understand that it is an outdoor activity, but the tours are not private so you are on the golf cart with strangers and sitting very close together. We also found the tour guide, Edith, to be very rude. As for the tour - nothing special and nothing you can't do on your own. read more

Our tour of Earl Young's Mushroom Houses was sensational. Edith was so much more than a tour guide. I can honestly say that if I stayed in Charlevoix, we would have become friends. Edith rearranged her schedule to pick up my father, my service dog, and me at our convenience. She drove us around in her own car as it was too cold for the carts you see in the photos. Whether you're an architecture nerd or a whimsical tourist like me, the Mushroom House Tour is a fascinating way to spend an hour or two. The trees and foliage surrounding these storybook homes were bare of leaves, but I barely noticed. The stories from days gone by, breathed life and character into the sleepy winter depictions of these homes. Edith pointed out so many things I never knew I wanted to know and was tickled by the many surprises. She was ready with answers to our every question with dates, local anecdotes, and a few private jokes to boot! If only to spend time with this awesome local rock star, take this tour and be awash in her generous warmth and welcoming spirit. She built this experience from scratch with hard work and love. beautiful city... but a good chunk of the tour is around private homeowners.. felt very uncomfortable stalking around people's houses. the tour would stop and go onto people's lawns.. i can't imagine how frustrated i would be living there and having yours show up however often they do. i hope the city puts something in place to protect the homeowners.. tour guide is also a bit aggressive :( leave the citizens alone pls read more

The tour itself was fine, but a bit boring and not worth the price/time. Most of the tour takes you through neighborhoods and the houses are privately owned, so you don't see the inside of any of them and all you can do is drive by them and take pictures. Agree with that others said about it being awkward/intrusive. I wish we spent the extra time at the beach and just drove by the houses ourselves (it would have taken 10 minutes and they are easy to find). read more

It was fun being able to see the houses and the tour was interesting (but I grew up in the area and question some of the historical facts). This was mentioned in another review but I agree it was incredibly awkward pulling up to private houses and taking photos with the owners sitting there and staring at you - plus there was no way to take a picture without getting them in the shot. I couldn't wait for it to end. We went back later to just walk around on our own and it was much better. read more

We did the riding tour which I highly recommend. it takes you out to the houses that are farther from town, which is where the interesting houses are. There are also a lot more out in that one area. The gal that did our tour was really fun and informative. They take you out in a 6 person golf cart so you can have 5 tour people at a time. It was very well done and very much worth the $15. read more
