My experience with this store was appalling, and I am not surprised that there are other poor reviews/experiences on multiple websites, that are similar to mine. I bought a guitar at this store for my 6-year-old son. About a month later there is a rattling sound inside one of the tuning machines and one of the saddles was moving and creating a clicking sound when you strummed the individual string. It can happen from time to time that a guitar might have a faulty part. I could easily have fixed it myself (I play guitar, and have a few guitars myself) but since it was under warranty it was best just to bring it in for repair. The guy behind the counter, Andrew, asked me what was needed. I told him that I bought the guitar for my son, and that there was probably a bad tuning machine that was causing a rattle when you moved the guitar. I also pointed out that something was wrong with one of the saddles. Andrew says "no problem" and then takes the guitar to the back workroom. A few minutes later he comes back saying that he fixed the guitar. Being curious, I then asked "how did you fix it?" Andrew then says, "I opened the tuning machine and stuck a small piece of rubber in there to keep it from rattling." ARE YOU KIDDING ME? For those of you that might not know, a tuning machine is a set of sprockets or gears that turn a post to tune your strings. If you stick a piece of rubber or foam in there, it will grind the rubber in the gears and you will end up with a bigger mess with the problem still unresolved! I tried to verbalize this kindly so that he might understand where I am coming from with this repair need. I said, "so if I bought a car and you were a mechanic and the engine's timing is slightly off which is now causing a rattling under the hood. You would consider it fixed if you padded those rattling parts with some foam?" Andrew's answer was, "Well, it's not like you bought a Ferrari!" NO WAY DID HE SAY THAT! Essentially, he was saying that since I didn't spend money on a more expensive guitar, it really wasn't worth his time and effort in getting it fixed properly. I guess pouring out $150 is about the right price for a faulty guitar that has a "just-put-a-bandaid-on-it-warranty". I will never return there again because of the lack of sense and the contempt that they must have for ANY customer that walks through their doors. He then postured that, "What more can be done?" I bit my tongue, left the store and vowed never to go back there again. When you are deciding to make a music purchase of some type (instruments, lessons, etc) you can find stores that are willing to back up their product with hospitable service and an appreciation of the customers, but you will not find it here. BY THE WAY - while I was there the first time choosing my son's guitar, there was an electric guitar on the wall that I really, really wanted. Unfortunately, after this experience, I opted not to return and purchase a $1200 "Ferrari" from them. oh, ALSO...don't be fooled by the Lorenzo Price reviews on Google +, and elsewhere, since he is posing as a customer that had a great experience. He is a guitar teacher at the store. Don't believe me? Just call the store and ask for him! Their reviews are the lowest ranked of the music stores from Cumming to Downtown Atlanta. Go figure that after my experience I would add one to the bunch. Please check out other local music stores or purchase online. My son started piano lessons here almost two years ago, and now he is taking both piano and guitar lessons. The instructors are engaging with both the students and the parents. They are not just musicians, as most of them have formal degrees in their respective fields of music. The staff in the front has always been super friendly and knowledgeable. We purchased a guitar here for my son and they took the time to answer questions and walk us through comparisons between guitars. We enjoy the small family environment that they create with their customers. Plus, the prices for the lessons are affordable. As far as COVID, they have been so flexible with offering virtual lessons when students and instructors don't feel well. They also have hand sanitizer in their store for people to use coming in and out. I would recommend Music Authority, Shawn J, and Andrew H for anyone looking to learn how to play an instrument. I'm sure the other instructors are good as well, but my son sees Shawn J for piano and Andrew H. for guitar. He really enjoys the lessons with both of them. read more

Music Authority felt like family from the beginning! Kylan, a guitar instructor at MA, engaged with our daughter day one of her first electric guitar lesson! He is patient and so kind! Our daughter is always excited to go see Kylan! Lilli comes out of her lessons sharing with me all the things she learned as well as what she and Kylan laughed about.. .from the music they love, or not, to movies they have seen or wanna see to just about any random thing they know the other will appreciate! They are birds of a feather! My husband is retired from the Air Force so we have a great respect for those who have served! Lilli loved that here is Kylan, this rock star guitar player, and he is former military just like her Dad! Admire Kylan for his ability to "turn on" a teen to a new passion and turn off any judgment! I've been at Music Authority for almost a year now, and my lesson day is my favorite day of the week. I've come a long way in songwriting lessons with Andrew Loggins and feel like I've learned not only about chord progressions and lyricism, but also about the creative process/music in general, which is exactly what I'd been hoping for. Karina Mandock is my voice teacher and she is amazing! I've learned more from her than I have from any voice teacher ever even though I've been working with her for a shorter period of time, and we have a great time and laugh a lot. Music Authority is such an awesome place. My son has been taking lessons/playing/hanging out at Music Authority for 2 years. Our family is so proud to be part of the Music Authority family. The owners really pour themselves into the kids. They not only teach them music but how to be a better person in the world with their actions and with the choices they make. The kids around Music Authority are all good kids and it's a great, safe environment for them to gather and play music and do life together and form relationships. A great local business! Professional instructors who can relate to students of all skill levels and all ages. My children have been students for four years - we've had several instructors (based on our availability) and have been happy with all of them. Melissa and Andrew (owners) offer lots of opportunities for all students: ensembles, open mic, jam sessions, showcase bands and my kids' personal favorite, Rock Camp! Good selection of instruments to purchase - I know nothing about guitars and was given a well-balanced perspective on the pluses/minuses of several instruments, not just pushed to the most expensive as with some stores. My son and I both had lesson's with Shawn Jacoby. I was guitar and my son drums. Shawn has always made lessons fun for us, and was always a pleasure to be around. My son has been taking drum lessons at Music Authority for years now, and he has really flourished because of them. He's an only child, and I think the lessons, along with the playing in bands has really brought him out of his shell and given him real confidence he can use in the real world. I start taking drum lessons at Music Authority a little over 2 years ago and have had instructor Brett Dorton for 1 1/3 years. Brett is an incredible instructor with tons of energy and positive feedback. He's extremely knowledgeable and makes it incredibly easy to learn new stuff. I can't believe how much I've learned in just a short time I've been with him. I highly recommend Brett and Music Authority if you ever desire to start taking lessons. Music authority is a great place. The staff are very cooperative, Natalie and Ana are very responsive both via phone and email. My daughter loves this place. She loves her teacher Ms Dawn Blair. George Marlow (my son's instructor) and Lauren Isenberg/Savannah Hughes (my daughter's instructors) have been great teachers. My son says, "George is even forgiving when I didn't really practice that week" (something we need to work on).
