I would find another store for rentals if you ever want to upgrade and buy your own. We rented for two years. The instrument was ok.. not nearly as nice as other places we've rented from. We should have switched sooner.. My daughter found other stores that had nicer instruments after we turned our rental in. I feel that other stores have much more selection and good service with a better upgrade program than she offers. We made the decision to purchase an instrument. Other stores we've rented from ( we have another child that plays violin as well) the full rental amount went towards purchasing the instrument with no minimum purchase amount. Their policy is you must purchase an instrument $1,000 or more. They have a very limited amount of instruments under 2k.. The choices were Chinese instruments that felt cheap and played poorly. We have shopped about 5 other stores in the area so I'm confident in saying for the under 2k price range there are much nicer instruments available than what they have. We've been looking all summer and have tried a lot of significantly nicer instruments almost everyplace under 2k. We were made to feel like our budget was only sufficient for a low end instrument by Emily. She showed us bows starting at $350-$1,000.. for a student..!! We brought in our other child's instrument and were told it was a violin that was worth $300 (which is significantly less than what it's truly worth and what we paid) our other "student violin" Sounded and plays significantly better than her instruments priced at 3k and up. It's a lovely store but best suited for people with high budgets! She's a bit snooty and they are very, very expensive. You can find much better quality instruments at other shops. read more

Emily Dixon is a true professional and the shop is excellent. Sally Mullikin, their luthier, is top notch. From the moment you talk to her your realize she knows exactly what she is doing. I attended conservatories in NYC since I was 16 years old and have worked with various shops. These folks excel. I recently added another bow to complement my Pierre Simon bow with a James Tubbs that Emily helped me with. I also bought a carbon fiber bow to use when playing in outdoor settings. Sally adjusted my violin and her knowledge of the instrument is just outstanding. I trust her and Emily and their guidance is excellent, something that a professional musician values. I had a cello that has a sound that I don't like, and she took the time to take measurements and give me a thorough explanation as to what I might need to do to give the cello a warmer, deeper sound. I needed a violin adjustment to work out the "shrill" sound of my E and they went out of their way to get every detail right. Beau Vinci is now my go-to for classical stringed instruments. They are extremely helpful and have a wonderful selection of instruments and bows to choose from. Having personally been involved in music for over 20 years now, I can say that Beau Vinci is by far one of the most helpful music stores I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. They have been very patient with both me and my wife when we have gone to look at instruments or talk about repairs (they have an excellent team of luthiers!!). Just recently I went to the store to look at bows, and I was given a lot of time to make the right choice for my current level of play. They answered tons of questions and gave me excellent feedback...I could not ask for a better experience!! Beau Vinci also has very competitive rentals available. I am currently renting a cello and I have to say that the quality and price were a huge factor in what I was willing to rent. I tried a few stores previously and went through three other instruments before I was told about Beau Vinci. Not only was the price better, but the quality of the instrument far over-shadowed the quality of the other rentals I was using. I have had no issues with this instrument and look forward to buying my own some day. The quality of the instruments they sell is exceptional to say the least, and they always take the time to guide me in the direction of choosing the right instrument for my level of play! Walked in on a Saturday, just before closing time. Emily was so patient and super helpful and knowledgeable. I've driven past Beau Vinci hundreds of times. Entering the quaint house was like visiting an old friend. Upon entering, Emily had me sit in the parlour (super quaint) while she retrieved a cello from the basement [super cool :-)]. The cello I'm renting looks really nice and is of high quality wood and other materials. Sounds good too. I received a nice carrying case and the ever-important bow and rosin. Emily was so helpful in providing a list of potential teachers in the area. The monthly rental rate is very reasonable. Emily showed me how to care for the cello, and I had a chance to play it as well after a short, careful tutorial. My daughter needed a new violin quickly, and her violin teacher recommended Beau Vinci to us. We live in TN, so I contacted them through their website, and they called me first thing the next morning. Emily talked to me about what they had in our price range. She made videos of herself playing each of the violins we were considering and emailed the videos to me. When we had made a decision, she walked me through all the financial details and financing. 2 days later, we had a beautiful new violin delivered. My daughter was beyond excited and thankful to have a new violin that is not only beautiful but that sounds amazing and stays in tune. In my personal experience, this place has not been and is not compatible with my needs. I've known Beau Vinci for several years now, as the company would often travel down from Atlanta to display their violins at some schools nearby. As a current high school student, I value time and money a lot, so my experience may be totally different from another's, which is quite understandable. And so, as a disclaimer, I'd like to say, may my experience not impede upon your own. Get quotes, meet the shop owners, and see if the shop is willing and kind enough to do emergency repairs. My first experience, maybe five or more years ago, was an orchestra night, and Beau Vinci was displaying some of their violins in the school lobby. The owner (Emily) tried my violin at the time (and current violin) out and estimated that the sale price was way above the actual price of the violin. She liked my violin and praised it quite well, as it was sold to me by William Gengakki. My father and I tried out some of the violins that she handed to me, which were much pricier than my current violin, but we both decided that we didn't really like the sound on any of them. The owner seemed to be quite frustrated with us due to the fact that we weren't going home with any of the violins. She kept saying that she spent a lot of time on us and that she could be going to pick up her daughter but instead was here with us, which made my father and I feel very awkward and pressured. Thus, we quickly left. Something that also intrigued my father and I was the fact that when we were leaving, she told us that she thought her violins surpassed the level of my violin, which contradicted her since, at the beginning, she questioned why I would want to look around at her violins with a violin of my caliber. Her attitude did not please us as we felt that even if we did not buy anything in the end, it was her utmost priority to keep herself composed and have a good attitude about things since she was the one who was displaying her business. As a result, she represented her business in the way she acted. My second experience, which was in 2015, happened when I needed a bow re-hair. I took my brother's violin along with my violin to check for any repairs. The re-hair was not effective as about a week or two later, my bow hair completely became loose to the point that I could not tighten it enough to even play it. This was not an effect of the weather since it was only the middle of September, and I always made sure my violin was in a well-regulated room indoors. According to my father, Beau Vinci said they were not liable for this and wanted payment for it to be fixed. Anyways, we took our violin bow to Atlanta Violins, who tightened the bow hair for us. The hair never became loose again. I've gone back to Atlanta Violins multiple times, and they are friendly, nice, and often times willing to fix things for free. My sound post was completely out of place, and they fixed it for free. They are my go-to violin repair shop, in which it always seems to be buzzing with happy customers. The shop at Beau Vinci was not as busy, but maybe it was because they require specific appointment times for customers?? I'm not exactly sure why there were no other customers in the shop except us at the time, but the general atmosphere of this shop was unsettling. My brother's violin happened to have a loose neck, so Beau Vinci was adamant about getting it reset, which costs MUCH more than just re-gluing the neck. My brother didn't even notice the neck was loose, so that made us a bit apprehensive to trust this shop. As a result, we went to Atlanta Violins as a second opinion, in which they claimed that a reset was unnecessary, which was our opinion in the first place. Instead, they applied a little bit of gluing in a minuscule part of the violin neck. Overall, Atlanta Violins has been the best fit for my family and I. We all think that Beau Vinci is overpriced and not trustworthy based on our past experiences. In conclusion, I strongly advise you to go to each individual violin shop that you feel has potential, ask for quotes, talk to the people, and see how they react when given every possible scenario. UPDATE: Shortly after I posted this review (2015), The owner (Emily) somehow found out my location and high school, called my music teacher, and claimed that my review was scathing, in which it was "ruining her business." I was called into the head of school's office a total of two times for this issue. I was forced to either edit or delete my review. She then sent my quotes and receipts to my music teacher, which included my credit card and personal information, in determination to prove that my review was somehow false. I found this very unprofessional and immature, for no true business will only get positive feedback. I hadn't picked up a violin in three years until finally I decided I couldn't let my depression keep getting the better of me. I lost my father, and honestly needed the stress relief that playing provided, my my violin was destroyed in storage due to water damage. I kept putting it off, and putting it off until I saw Beau Vinci through some tedious online searching. Their atmosphere seemed "homey" and it seemed as though their overall prices were extremely reasonable for actual sound production and overall quality of instrument. I went in right at opening and drove down from jasper where I was helped by two extremely courteous and timely gentlemen. They made sure to talk me through the entire process, and make recommendations for me based on what I was looking for, and where we might be able to work on upgrades in the future. Beau Vinci is located in an acoustically beautiful Victorian house, a relaxed setting to focus on finding your musical voice on an instrument. My teenage daughter commented on how much she enjoyed the experience of walking into the spacious shop, getting our own private room setup with a variety of instruments for her to try out. It was easy to hear the tonal differences and for her to find her preferred sound. We had limited time that day, so I called ahead and I appreciated the kind owner setting up the room with instruments in our price-range. The owner is thoughtful, soft-spoken, and efficient, making the searching experience a pleasure. We purchased a lovely case and instrument that day, after searching for over a month at a variety of shops, near and far. I recommend this shop to my students as they have quality instruments in all price ranges, and generous rental and buy-back options. I highly recommend Beau Vinci Violins for purchasing a string instrument. I found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. The owner, Emily, greeted me and personally helped me with my "shopping". Selecting and purchasing an instrument is a difficult process, and even though I have purchased instruments in the past, it is always a daunting and overwhelming process. I was able to discuss all the instruments with Emily, and she met me where I was in my knowledge of instruments, and had recommendations to assist me.
