    DJ on Stage
    Kay C.

Went to Music Box for the Earlybird Club (dancing to music from the various decades from 6-10pm on certain dates). The venue was packed and happening. Dancing was mainly on 1st floor, with limited dance space on 2nd and 3rd floors, as DJ was playing tunes from the stage. There are VIP areas which you can rent but not needed. There is outdoor patio seating to cool yourself down on 3rd floor, plus small air conditioned private lounge area above stage. However, since it was packed and people were dancing continuously, it can get hot fast. Everyone was sweating. It would be nice for more ventilation, windows or fans or AC circulating on all 3 floors. You can buy drinks on all floors. Bathrooms are limited, despite the size of crowd. Impressed with Music Box staff who were continuously wiping/ mopping wet spots on the ground to minimize slipping.

It's a pretty decent venue with some cool artists who come through. They have the stage at a nice height where you can see it well. It is rather small, so I can see it getting crowded easily. There's benches on the one side for you to sit. The other side and top are is tables and chairs, which you need to pay extra for. The sound here is decent but can definitely use better acoustics. You have street parking around, which can be challenging.

Place was clean and fresh and perfect venue for Spanish rock band Odisseo - my first time there - kinda neat to have 3 stories - vip option is available which is great but I think if venue doesn't sell out we should be able to just go upstairs - to enjoy the space! Bar tenders were great and enough for the crowd we had - - unfortunately they ran out of the whiskey I was drinking and that was a bummer - but I will definitely be back restrooms were clean and stocked and nice to see stage up close with the bathroom break !

When we were there, it was super packed - mostly standing room, and the main floor was absolutely buzzing. If you're planning a visit, just a heads-up that some of the tables don't really give you a clear view of the stage. But, if you're looking for a prime spot, they do have VIP tables! You'll need to hit up their website to inquire about those, and they'll get back to you with all the details on booking one. On the bright side, the sound system was totally on point - the music sounded fantastic! They also have video screens dotted around, though the camera angle was a bit far back, which made it a little tricky to catch all the stage action up close. One great perk is the patio - it's a perfect little escape if you need a breather from the crowd, and they've got a full bar and food available. And, no surprise for Little Italy, parking was a bit of an adventure, but you kind of expect that, right? The staff were all super welcoming and friendly, which always makes a difference. All in all, we had a good time grooving to the music. While it was a fun night out, I probably wouldn't rush back unless it was for an artist I absolutely adore and I could lock down one of those VIP tables for a comfy view!

Wow! Wow! Wow! I hadn't been to this venue in a while and it was such a good time. The vibe, security, food and bathrooms were all great! This venue always has some of the best on the rise artists which I love!

such a fun venue for an intimate show! staff was friendly and the sound was great. I didn't get anything to eat here but they do have food. beverages are pricey but on par with what other venues are charging.

We came here to see some of our favorite local bands (Rough Houser) on a weekday and it was absolutely popping off! Music Box is such a cool staple for SD locals and tourists alike. The venue is really well set up with multiple levels and a ton of space for fans. From the VIP section to GA, you really can't go wrong. The staff was friendly and the show/visuals were awesome.

We've been coming here more lately, and the experience has improved. I've been here for sold out shows, medium shows, and shows where there's a really light crowd. Each is a different experience of its own. First thing, the ADA seating has improved drastically. In the old days, you were seated on the black L-shaped couch that runs from the back along the left wall to the stage. In a sold-out or fuller show, I had people backing into me. That and there was no way you could see anything. Much better now that ADA gets seated up on the 3rd floor, looking down. There's a restroom on the 3rd floor, so no need to come down just for that. Staff is really friendly, and happy to help if we need assistance with something. The downside is parking because it's in Little Italy. Right now there's a lot of construction which makes it even more difficult.

Music Box is a gem of San Diego and was such an intimate venue to see and hear Hayla beautifully sing and perform and feel the venue acoustics and deep bass vibrations (down to 20Hz). I'm incredibly thankful to Music Box and Hayla for this unforgettable night. AMBIANCE Lively crowd, with a modern, clean interior spanning three levels. SERVICE Staff and security were on their game, while being conscientious and helpful. Earplugs are provided free of charge FOOD Filipino Food by Mama V's Lumpia, Drinks, and plenty of water are served at the bar at the first and second floor. P.S. There's something about Hayla's songs, lyrics, and voice that just speaks on another level like a light in the dark - she's artistic, soulful, upbeat, profound, and comforting with a presence that balances vulnerability, love, an strength. Songs of the night include: free-fall, John Summit - shiver/where you are, sub focus - found you, Wilkinson - I need (your love), illenium - (hold you) in my arms, faded, Kygo - without you, Alone, Visions of you, Meduza - another world, kx5 - escape

I personally love this venue. It's much smaller so be prepared for it to get packed.. I highly recommend coming early and not drinking much so you don't have to keep squeezing through the crowd to go to the bathroom. The sound is amazing!! For the small venue their speaker system is perfect!!! The service from people who work there were also super refreshing- it's like they enjoyed being there and what they do! If you get the chance to see a show here don't pass it up!

Lovely little venue at the end of Little Italy. Lots of parking options on the street or paid parking lots. The vicinity to restaurants in Little Italy make it convenient to grab a bite before the show. The venue itself is a narrow rectangular room with two floors of balcony to view the stage from as well. VIP ticket holders can access a bar and small room with seating and monitors to watch the show if they prefer. Food and alcohol are also available on the ground floor. Ear plugs are also offered for free near the entrance.

I've come here a few times through the years and really like this venue. It's midsize and a kind of intimate setting, reminds me of the House of Blues. Have I just been lucky?? I always get a free park easily within a few hundred feet of this place. Major plus! The bar has a ton of beers on tap, if that's your thing. Bathrooms are always maintained and clean too. Also - seating! There's actual seating on the main GA floor. That feels good, pushing 40 haha!

I've been to Music Box in San Diego a few times over the last couple of years and every time has been a great experience. The staff here is always professional, kind, and incredibly helpful. Most recently, I attended a show with a friend who had a broken foot so we needed to sit in the ADA section. The employees went out of their way to accommodate us and make sure she was comfortable which I really appreciated. The venue itself is beautiful inside, modern, clean, and well laid out for an intimate live music experience. The sound quality is consistently solid and the vibe is always just right. I have not tried the food here yet, I actually just found out they served food after my last visit lol! I have tried a variety of their cocktails, and they are delicious and reasonably priced considering the area. Highly recommend Music Box to anyone looking to catch a great live show in a smaller more intimate setting.

I have tickets for my friends, can I leave them at will call for them?

Hi Bridget. You can email the tickets to your friends, or simply send them a screenshot of the tickets with the barcodes so they can be scanned at the door. If you have further questions, please contact the box office at 619-795-1337. Thank you!

What is your bag policy? I am flying in for a show very close to doors opening and won't have time to drop off my backpack.....

Hi A.A. Thank you for your question. Medium sized bags are fine, pending inspection at the door. Larger backpacks can be left in the box office and picked up after the show.

    Do they have coat check?

Thank you for reaching out! We do not have a coat check at Music Box currently.

Does this venue have an elevator?

Music Box does have an elevator that provides ADA access to our mezzanine and third floor. If you are attending a show at Music Box and need special accommodations, we ask that you reach out to the box office in advance.

Does Music Box require the vaccine for people attending a concert there?

They require vax or negative. I got my Covid here.

Can you buy tickets at the location? If so when is the box office open?

Hi, you can buy tickets at the Box Office. Box Office hours are typically M-F 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM. It is also open daily a couple hours prior to every show, and stays open until around two hours after door time.

Does anybody know how much the lot across the way cost to park just trying to figure out if it's cheaper to left or what?

There are various parking lots nearby. The least expensive one is the Laz lot south of A Street at India Street. This is half a block from Music Box, and is usually $8.00 after 5:00PM.

So is it first come first serve for seating? we are going to the Musiq Soulchild in June, my mom would not be able to stand all that time.

Our group was surprised as is was 2115, it's been open for about an hour and a half and packed. As you enter this old law office down a staircase one would find the "speakeasy statutes/rules" to maintain the 1920s atmosphere-- we loved the setting, the people, the drinks, and of course the live music!! One would not be disappointed. The cocktail menu was on an old record, which I thought it was so clever. Back to the rules, seems pretty easy! They mention to keep an open mind with the drinks as they do not carry vodkas, redbull, Budweiser or bulls**t. Mentioned a dresscode, more so be classic and states be respectful and don't be a di*k. I couldn't agree more with the rules. I don't think there is good at this establishment, as our group just came from dinner I wasn't looking for food. Just spirits, live music and a good time. Multiple bystanders witnessed his behavior but failed to intervene, assuming it was just "relationship drama" After the man finally left, the venue's security completely misread the situation. Instead of checking on my well-being or ensuring the aggressor had left the premises, security targeted and chased me as if I were the problem. It is incredibly disappointing and dangerous for a business's security team to lack the basic situational awareness and training required to identify the actual victim in a situation. I felt entirely unprotected by the staff here. I hope management takes this as a serious sign that their security team needs immediate retraining on bystander intervention and de-escalation, rather than harassing women who are already in vulnerable situations.

We walked in and while it was a little loud for us older folks, we looked around and took in all that was happening. There were people there much older than us as well as people barely old enough to be in a bar. The pianist (s) were hard at work a the drummer was rocking out too. We sat down. Let me tell you, that was the most fun we have had in a long time! All three musicians played multiple instruments, piano, harmonica, sax, and drums. The songs were everything from Slim Shady to Elton John and everything in between. Slips of paper were placed on the piano, a nod was given and off they went. The crowd sang along and we all laughed! We might have paid for it the next day but had we not had a plane to catch we absolutely would have stayed. Parking has always been rough, but considering the venue sits at the end of a peninsula, it felt forgivable. The views, bay atmosphere, and overall ambiance were beautiful. One odd thing, though: people can freely gather along the surrounding sidewalks and watch the concert on giant screens just yards from the stage. Good for locals, but it does make paying customers feel a little cheated. Because of that first experience, I was excited when James Taylor came through last year. My wife and I are always looking for concerts we can take my dad to. He's fully blind and uses a wheelchair, so accessibility matters a lot. I remembered the movable seating at the Shell and assumed ADA accommodations would be easy. The night of the concert immediately became stressful. We arrived early, but parking was a disaster. I tried to at least drop my dad off near the entrance, but traffic attendants were overwhelmed and simply yelling at cars without directing anyone properly. People were illegally unloading in traffic lanes while attendants simultaneously yelled at them to leave. My family follows the rules, so we waited for actual direction that never came. Despite having an ADA placard, we were never given a proper place to unload my dad safely. We eventually parked at the convention center, where staff were far more organized and quickly directed us to ADA parking. From there we had to push my dad uphill from the garage to the venue. Not terrible for me, but definitely difficult terrain for many wheelchair users. At the gates, security felt equally chaotic. My wife nearly walked in unchecked because staff seemed disorganized. Eventually someone directed us toward the ADA entrance, though not before tying random numbered paper tags to my dad's wheelchair that nobody ever referenced again. Inside, things got worse. An attendant escorted us to standard seats on a steep incline. When I explained we had paid for wheelchair-accessible seating, she looked confused and actually asked, while looking directly at my dad, "Well, can he get up and sit in one of these chairs?" That comment alone was shocking. No wheelchair user should ever be put in that position. She apologized, but then suggested parking his wheelchair across the aisle with walkers and scooters while he sat separately from his family. Another staff member arrived, and after several minutes of discussion, the final answer was essentially: "Make it work." Their solution was either for my dad to squeeze into tightly packed standard seating or remain isolated across the aisle near a guardrail. This was for tickets costing over $400 each. We first tried moving a chair to create wheelchair space, but the incline was so steep his wheelchair brakes couldn't hold. I spent the opening act physically bracing his chair with my foot and arm to stop him from rolling forward. My wife had to sit separately across the aisle just so I could angle myself properly to hold him in place. After the opener, I reluctantly asked my dad if he could transfer into a regular chair because I physically couldn't stabilize the wheelchair for the entire concert. He agreed, but the seating remained unsafe and uncomfortable. The rows were so cramped that people constantly brushed into him trying to pass. Because he's blind, I had to continuously warn him to pull his legs in or explain to strangers that he couldn't see them waiting. This became especially concerning because he's diabetic and a partial amputee with little feeling in his feet. Even a minor injury could become serious. My wife and I tried shifting chairs around to give him more room, but that forced her chair farther into the aisle. She eventually spent most of the concert sitting alone across the aisle in my dad's wheelchair. Meanwhile, staff seemed absent whenever actual problems arose. During the show, an intoxicated woman behind us screamed loudly, kicked audience members, and was loosely "handled" by security for nearly ten minutes before stumbling down the incline and falling into my wife. Staff mostly stood around watching. Leaving the venue was equally chaotic. Drivers were honking aggressively at the parking exits, and we watched one person eventually break a malfunctioning gate arm so cars could leave. Outside the venue, street musicians and vendors blocked walkways with speakers and displays, forcing families into the street to get around them. James Taylor sounded great, but I barely remember the performance because I spent the entire night managing accessibility problems, repositioning my dad, and worrying about my wife sitting separately. What should have been a bucket-list family memory became an exhausting, embarrassing experience. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever return to the Shell.

There were about 100 of us and we went into the basement, which has a cool, 60s vibe. It's kind of dark and seedy, I don't think my wife would go in there if the lights were bright. All this to say, this is not a normal review. Caveat emptor. You can see from the pictures that we went down a set of stairs, where there was a private bar and an informal gathering place, and we were served buffet style. Nonetheless, I had a chance to taste the brisket, jambalaya, vegan Cajun penne, mac & cheese, bread pudding, shrimp and grits, Brussels sprouts, and ooey gooey butter cake. I had to taste the jambalaya because it gets such great reviews. It was quite good, though I don't think I could eat a whole lot of it as it's pretty heavy. The brisket was fantastic, something I would go back for. The attached picture makes it look less appetizing than it was, because it's being served in a buffet pan. Shrimp and grits were little shrimps, tasted like they were previously frozen, and a piece of deep-fried grits. As I am a Texan, the grits didn't live up to my experience. The vegan Cajun penne was ordinary. The Brussel sprouts were sweet, covered in a thick sauce, very good if you like that sort of thing, but definitely not naked. The bread pudding and caramel sauce was OK, and the ooey gooey butter cake was pretty good. All in all the only thing I would return for (which is what I always look for in a restaurant) was the brisket. The staff were very friendly. The downstairs bar was run by one person, not enough for such a big crowd, so we had a very long line to wait for our liquor. We had two people doing quick portraits, and an LP decorating stand. And those were fun.

As a first time attendee, I was very impressed by the more intimate lovely outdoor space nestled in between the hotel and sailboats. The overhead outdoor lights really gave it a nice ambiance. However, at times it was a little too intimate since the rows are very narrow and feel like you are packed in like a sardine. I feel the venue is big enough to space the seating further apart which would be more comfortable. At the back are the concessions and bathrooms that offered a variety of items. I got a heavy pour of bourbon in my cocktail and a large pretzel, but sadly they ran out of cookies. I also want to commend all of the staff I encountered. They were very welcoming starting with the security check to the ushers. They seem to really value the venue and the musical acts. Lastly, it helps to be aware that there is free parking across the street, or if you prefer to be right outside the venue, parking is $25.

Think ballpark stadium seating but without the chairs being bolted in the ground. Plus add alcohol and lots of 2nd hand puffing. Thankfully the concert was an older band so it didn't get crazy. But to get up for a drink or bathroom my booty was literally in other men's faces since we had middle seats. As a female, that puts me in an awkward position. Tickets were a gift so can't complain, but I normally would pick an end seat knowing this. I've seen numerous complaints about the seating. That tracks. You'd think they would change this by now. I don't do concerts often, so when I go, I prefer best experience possible. Drink line took awhile and the beers seemed a little pricey but I was having prosecco and that price was pretty on point. Fix the chairs!!!! lol

Humphreys could be a great venue if the owners were not cramming us in so close to each other.

Found out there's actually a Redskins watch party at this place called Winston in Ocean Beach really other side of America and there's a group of Redskin fans signed me up. These are my people here's what Winston's had to offer: Ambience: literally a dive bar in the middle of Ocean Beach security and everything. Guess they do a lot of events here live music parties, etc. actually quite a cool freaking place. Service: fast friendly and fun not only because I was here for the game but because they decorated up for the Redskins and literally had like 40 to 50 Redskins fans. Seems like they do a lot of live events and music which is super cool and I'm sure they do a great job as my service was fantastic. Food: I ordered a pizza. Some other guys had nachos. Everything looked good. My pizza was actually pretty good for a dive bar. Beer was cold. Tasty had some local flavor added in. It's not a Michelin restaurant but for a game night perfect. The summit all up I had a fantastic time. Parking is a nightmare down in Ocean Beach, but you know what it's a small price to pay for having a great couple hours watching a team celebrating with others that love the same team singing the same songs I eat the best fight song in NFL and doing it on the beach in California. I don't think it gets much better than that. Thanks for a great time Winston's hope to see you again. Keep munching, and HTTR!!!
