The tea was delicious. It was quite cluttered, but it was overall pretty cozy. Amazing selection. Cool people I got to sit down and drink tea with. At first, I was having a great time, excited about this place I came across that I've never heard of. Then I started to get singled out for living in a larger body/being a fat person. I just wanted to come in and look for some good hormonal balancing tea. When I sat down to try various teas, I kept getting told that I should try the weight loss ones. She kept saying "this one will be great for you." and it would literally be just a weight loss tea. I also asked for a tea without rock sugar since I wanted to drink it before bed, and sugar before bed keeps me up. When I said this she was like "good girl! good for you no sugar". She also kept making remarks about the other customers thinness as well. Like "This tea is very healthy. Look at him, he drinks this all the time and look at how nice and skinny he is." She was referring to the guy sitting next to me. It was just very awkward. I went by myself, and there were a few other people at the table. And I felt so singled out, and I could tell everyone else thought these remarks were awkward as well everytime she told me to try something for weight loss or talk about how skinny someone was. I was having a good time up until these remarks. I have been recovering from a severe eating disorder on and off for a long time, and am on a slow and steady journey to love and mostly feel neutral towards my body. And this was very hurtful. I might be back. The tea really was yummy. My partner and I love it. But I don't want to get singled out again for living in a larger body. It was really weird and uncomfortable. I would encourage the staff to ask the customers what they want help for when it comes to their symptoms. Not just assume. I wasn't there to lose weight. I was not interested in that. If someone is specifically asking for help with that, then more power to them. Had a good time, and met some cool people. But left feeling pretty bad about myself, and needing to regulate from the bad trigger. If you live in a larger body, prepare to be offered an arrangement of weight loss teas you didn't ask for, and to be told various remarks about you and everyone else's body. Thinness does not equal wellness, and I know that is not a common belief in asian culture. I regularly practice yoga. I roller skate regularly. I eat well balanced. My body just so happens to be larger. And this was a very hurtful experience. Not at all trying to diss a small business. I think it has very good bones. I am typing all of this out just to warn my fellow fat baddies or anyone struggling with an eating disorder, and maybe to enlighten the staff on how they speak to their customers. I stumbled upon this place by happenstance and I am very happy that I did. They offer unlimited free samples and you can try any kind of tea you want. Meilee was very kind to be as generous as she was with her time. I ended up purchasing some cherry hibiscus tea that I had some of this evening. It was delightfully refreshing. They sell teas for all different types of purposes and the teas offer what health benefits come with the type of tea you choose. Pricing is based on the amount and kind you purchase. Listings of the type of teas they have are on the table where you sample the teas. You can take tea to-go as well. It is a fun experience to try with someone. I enjoyed myself and my company that joined me for this unexpected excursion. Came to this lively little Chinese tea house during a scavenger hunt I was participating in!  It's about 20 minutes outside of Nashville in a little shopping center in Franklin...and I am so glad we ended up here! It's a busy shop packed to the brim with teas and tea accoutrements, and some tables set up for tasting. We were there for a tea tasting and lunch. The table we were seated at was filled with sweets for us to enjoy with our tea. And then we were guided through the tea tasting and got to brew our own teas in a Chinese ceremony fashion!! The whole thing was such a neat experience!! I highly recommend coming here to do a tea tasting! For lunch they brought us some steamed dumplings veggies, rice, and spicy pork...which was all lovely! Really enjoyed this whole experience! Some of our favorite teas were the Hawaiian Paradise, Lavender Earl Grey, and a chocolate puerh! read more

Oh my. So many options! Very friendly people great customer service. If you don't know what you like/want, they will give you samples of whatever you want. They will also make up a bag of whatever you choose and you can try before you buy. Excellent choices, their fruit tea is awesome as well as their version of a cold remedy. Brilliant little hidden shop on the square with the most inviting folks who immediately invited us in for a tasting. The atmosphere is so great; it's like being in a magical back room library where the tea selections and accompaniments are the books. Had the pleasure to meet the owner Jinlan Zhong and her daughters who help out around the store. I sat down at an almost full tasting table and had an awesome time "loudly slurping" tea and learning so much about the teas from our tea host. The folks around the table were so much fun sharing stories along with other new places to try out in Murfreesboro. It is incredible how wonderful the flavors are with fresh tea brewed correctly. I even got to brew and serve tea to the folks at the table. After the tea sampling I purchased a couple of teas, and the Chocolate Chai is incredible...I've already brewed several cups it's that darn good!!! They have a great little starter package of five sample teas, a cup, steeper, and bamboo spoon. You need to watch out for Jinlan's daughter behind the register...she is a great saleslady. They also offer private Chinese Traditional Tea Ceremony and if you like a full meal tea party which I plan to take advantage of. read more

I'm a coffee snob, I admit it. I love coffee. One of my first thoughts when I wake up is do I have coffee? I probably drink anywhere from three to six cups a day and I'm probably being conservative. But needless to say one can only drink that much coffee for so long before your adrenal glands say, "I'm outta here!" I've known for a while that I needed to reel in my coffee intake but never really took it seriously until about a month ago. I slowly began to notice that I was constantly jittery, and I was finding it difficult to keep a steady hand. So right off the bat I cut back to one cup a day. One big, fat, cup, like the size of a baseball cap...GO CUBS! Seriously one cup. I needed more. My wife told me of Music City Tea and I reluctantly went with her one day. It was so fantastic. Such a peaceful place to visit and learn about tea. Jenny and her amazing staff will treat you to some of the finest Chinese teas around. She even allowed me to make my own blend of White Farmers, Peppermint, and licorice and we named it Happy Farmer. This was Jenny's suggestion to help me get my thyroid under control. Wow! We wandered into this place on a whim and it was such a delightful experience! "oh look a tea shop. That looks fun." "It does look fun... Lets go check it out." We had no idea what to expect. When you walk in, its a little overwhelming with the aroma of tea, the tea sets everywhere, and tons of teas to look through. Jenny invited us to the table for a tea tasting. She taught us about the teas- how and where they were grown, what properties the teas had and the benefits, what time to drink them and how much, the different ways of brewing, pouring, and sharing tea, and the names of all the tools. She pointed out differences and similarities, we got to smell tea before and after brewing, and also experience how it altered our taste buds, all while getting to know some strangers who had also ventured in the store. The whole experience was fascinating and enriching. For your first visit, I would recommend coming with about 30 minutes to spare, or more. Come with an open mind, and be willing to sit and enjoy it for awhile. Jenny will try to sell you some of the brewing tools, and really if you don't have them already, it's a smart choice and a one-time purchase. We walked out with 2 big bags of our favorite teas that we tried, and have already resolved to go back soon and tell our tea-loving friends about this place. Such a fun experience! We popped in just to look around but were invited to join a tea ceremony with the owner! She taught us how to prepare and pour the tea, and gave us lots of information about the medicinal purposes and benefits of each tea! The tasting is free, but they definitely apply the pressure to buy something after. We walked away with a new strainer and a small bag of our favorite tea from the tasting. Just got done with my first visit to this wonderful addition to the market around the town square. I was amazed at the depth of understanding the employees had. They had the same enthusiasm and knowledge for their teas as any master craftsman would be of their trade. My wife and I were allowed to sit and try many teas, being introduced to new options with excitement rather than the typical "oh, you want another one, do you?" attitude you might get at an ice cream parlor or a wine tasting. I do believe the owner's daughter was the one helping us directly. This will be a regular stop for me as high quality and nutritious teas, along side the ability to support a local business brings me great joy. Love it! read more

Was walking around the square in Murfreesboro and happened into this tea shop. My first impression was that it is pretty cluttered, with merchandise everywhere. That part didn't really bother me. There was some really cool stuff to look at it, just a whole lot of it. It was the part when I got downstairs to the tea tasting room that bothered me. Dishes from yesterday had been left out overnight (I came in just a few minutes after they opened that morning), and there were insects everywhere. It is one million degrees in this store and the bugs are having a heyday. The guy who was there, who evidently is partners with the Jenny person featured in all the other reviews here, promptly begins complaining about Jenny and how messy she is. Super awkward. He is also eating McDonald's and burping. Burping A LOT. As he is talking to me. I barely get in a word as he is telling me his life story, how he came to be part owner in this shop, which I do not mind hearing. It's mostly the heat and the bugs I mind. And the burping. Then he starts to tell me that he has no real interest in Chinese culture. He does not go into detail, but mentions this several times throughout our mostly one-sided conversation. Awkward. He makes me a cup of tea. I ask for it in a to-go cup. He does not comply with my wishes. Fine. I drink the tea there, standing around the dirty table while he cleans up last night's mess. It IS a good cup of tea. He mentions that he also sells Chinese herbs. I mention a health issue I am having, and he offers to make me another cup of tea. Oh, please no. If you have some leaves I could take home and try on my own time, that would be great. He hands me a large bag of tea. He runs down the symptoms which this tea treats, amongst which the issues I mentioned are not present. He says, "Oh, yeah, yeah, and your thing too. It'll help with that." (Surprise: when I get home and google the ingredients in this tea, it does not help with my "thing." He basically just sold me a big-ass bag of tea to be selling me something. I do not mind spending $25 on a bag of tea. I do not mind helping out a small business. I undoubtedly would have purchased something that day anyway. I mind being sold something under false pretenses.) Another speech about how he is a tea master and everyone else is sort of dumb. He leaves the part about educating the unwashed masses to Jenny because she is a "cute Chinese girl." I emerged dazed, having been talked at for half an hour, in the extreme heat and among the insects. The cup of tea WAS good. The tea I bought does nothing for me. I'm actually serving it to my husband because it treats his high cholesterol, so at least it's not going to waste. I guess I was just not prepared for a business owner, especially one who has been in Murfreesboro for such a short period of time, to be so unprofessional and negative to a brand new customer. I personally will not be going back to this tea shop. Reading the reviews here, I wish I had gone on a day when Jenny had been there. Might have made all the difference. read more

Music city tea shop is a real chinese tea shop offering gong fu cha wares. This is an incredibly rare and unique recourse to have outside of a major city like New York or San Fransisco. The owner is from a tea producing family and sells her families teas. They have a reputable online business for affordable gong fu cha wares. Focus on the wuyi oolong. Jenny caries the most affordable and value centered da hong pao and other yan cha varietals that I have encountered. She even has a couple legitimate puerh. This is not a place to come looking for tea bags or british traditions. Thank god for this store. It is truly a miracle that such a place exists in Franklin. read more

I really had a great experience with the young lady running the store from 5-6 pm one evening last week (she is in the picture above - forgot her name). Her service was incredible. I only docked one star cause the place looks like a junk shop and could use some design and organization, but they have good people and good tea, and I'll be back. I also disagree with their recommended method for brewing with very short steeping times; while I played dumb to avoid conflict with the wonderful hostess, tea lovers know the gongfu brewing method they were using requires short brewing times, but not near that short. They are serving colored water more than they are serving tea...but whatever. It's tough to argue with a free tasting. read more

This place is so fun! The owner sits with you and tries several different tea's and teaches you about Chinese tea culture. There are so many great gift sets in there as well and everything is extremely reasonably priced. It is always a great experience to go. I would recommend the oolong tea that her family farms in China, as well as the white farmers tea, and also the emperors favorite tea. I went in searching for a good earl grey, and I came away amazed and felt like I had found a jewel of a local business. Owner there is so wonderful, is passionate and loves sharing and educating you! She is lovely, and grew up on her parents tea farm. Every tea she lets you try free of charge and does it in an amazing and quick tea ceremony. It was also a learning experience, as we learned all about the art of Chinese tea making & drinking....did you know you're supposed to slurp your tea loudly when you drink it?
