The music at our daughter's wedding reception was the only thing we were really disappointed with. It was way too loud for such a small room. I (mother of the bride) asked DJ to turn it down; FOB asked him to turn it down; bride asked him to turn it down. The DJ was rude. Finally when our wedding coordinator asked him, he turned it down; unfortunately this was at the end of the night. Our guests were of all ages and we had many people leave early because they could not even talk with each other because the music was too loud. We felt like the DJ totally disregarded what we, the paying customer, asked him to do and made the evening all about his music. The selection he played did not include songs the bride and groom requested ahead of time. At one point during the evening the groom requested a song - DJ told him he would add it to the bottom of the request list (Really?? The groom's request!) It never did get played. Certainly not worth the $300/hr they charged. And when we asked to use one of their mics for the ceremony, they wanted to charge us $600. Incredible! Definitely not worth the $1200 I paid for a DJ for my Aug 2021 wedding. Bryan, the DJ that was sent to my event, did not seem to know the details of my event, was less than enthusiastic to put it mildly, did not play the genre of music that I was promised he would follow, and worst of all, we could not even hear him on the rare occasion he decided to speak into the microphone as he used too small of a sound system (something we discussed on the phone prior to my event given the number of people we had coming). I emphasized to the owner & Bryan NUMEROUS times that the music was extremely important to the groom and me. Sadly, the DJ and music were the most disappointing part of our wedding. I truthfully could have just lined up a playlist on my phone and had the same experience, and would have at least heard the music that we wanted and saved myself $1200. read more

Unfortunately Tim was not available for our wedding but he assigned Rich to our wedding and it could not have worked out any better! Most of the stories that start off... 'Remember at your wedding...' are usually followed by some story that happened on the dance floor! From Rich being super accommodating and allowing my dad and grandpa to use some of his equipment so they could sing/play our first dance to the great mix of music and the Constant flow of people on the dance floor he truly brought all of our wedding guests together and formed a HUGE party. We are very happy we've hired Music in Motion. The moment we spoke with Tim, we knew we wanted to entrust our wedding event with them. The day of the wedding, we worked with Rick and Kyle. Rick played a vital role in pivoting our wedding plans given current circumstances. On that note, in our eyes, he already delivered above and beyond even before the wedding event in itself. He has such keen eye on details and provided us with loads of meaningful insight, a lot of which are things that we have not considered or even thought about, which helped shape the event beyond what we would have dreamt it to be. Rick was also very accommodating and helpful in finding us a virtual producer that was the one missing piece in realizing our dream wedding prior to speaking with him. The day of the event, he kept us organized and on track. All our requests have been honored and we couldn't be any happier. Music in Motion is a great DJ service. My fiancé and I had high expectations of the music at our wedding. I had started a list of Must Play and Do Not Play songs, and a list of 20 interview questions prior to searching for a DJ. Tim Hicks, the owner, provided wonderful customer service. He replied to emails on the same day, or within 24 hours, set up appointments, and was courteous and professional on the phone. The website is easy to use and allowed us to add songs from the beginning of the planning process up to the day before the wedding. We live out of state, so all correspondence was done remotely. We contacted at least 15 DJ services and had narrowed it down to two. One of the deciding factors in choosing Music in Motion was that they were located in Woodstock, IL (which was nearby), had played at our venue in McHenry, IL, and knew the staff at the venue. Also, because we were referred by a friend, we were given a 25% discount. Our DJ was Jimmy. He did a great job with announcements, our playlist, and last-minute changes. We were most impressed that he kept up with our guests' eclectic song requests throughout the night, even searching YouTube for some of the more hard-to-find songs. So two of my cousins and I all got married in the course of about two year. It sorta just worked out that we all went with Music in Motion, and I gotta tell you Rich and Tim were both just amazing. I worked as a wedding videographer for awhile, and I've seen a lot of DJs. The thing that stood out to me immediately is that these guys are really passionate about what they do. They don't just phone it in like some DJs, they work to get the crowd excited, and they have a great, easy to use, system so that you can put in a list of everything from must play songs to do not play songs. Big help because my wife may have snapped if she heard Beyonce during the bouquet toss lol. We paid extra to have them set up for our outdoor ceremony. There was a scare of rain earlier in the day so the DJ set up his equipment under the pavilion, not a big deal...until it came time to actually use the microphones. Every. Other. Word. was amplified it was like a horrible cell phone connection, but worse...because this was our WEDDING CEREMONY. When I spoke to the DJ about it, he claimed that it was a user error as no one was speaking closing enough "kissing" the mic that caused the sound to go in and out so violently. When I spoke to the owner, he stated the issue was caused by the ceremony site, being too far away from the pavilion. Bear in mind, this company states they service this venue all the time, so shouldn't they have known what works and what doesn't? Whatever it was that caused that debacle of sound that was our ceremony, it COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED had the DJ actually TESTED the mic beforehand, to ensure that they were indeed close enough (bear in mind, no one moved the mic from the stand placed by the DJ) to his equipment and also had he advised the mic users that they need to be kissing the mic to be heard (as he claims was the issue). It can't get anymore important than a wedding ceremony, and this guy was completely apathetic. He wasn't done there, though, he also botched our bridal party entrance, not just names ( it seems he skipped that) but the songs! Our bridal party even invested the time to rehearse moves to their song, which wasn't played for their entrance, but instead for the bride and grooms. Whoops, DJ! When approached about the mix up the DJ literally shrugged and stated that he, "didn't even look at the sheet." WOW. Just, awful. Lastly, we had rehearsed to be able to sing songs dedicated to one another at the reception, but shelved that, due to our lack of trust in the guy running the sound. How unfortunate that we could not trust this "pro" enough to move forward with something that was important to us! The owner claims that I am incapable of pleasing, not that he failed to deliver a professional service. UNBELIEVABLE! The owner will bash me as a person, before admitting where his company failed. The excuses and displaced blame is infuriating. I'm beyond disappointed. These guys ruined our ceremony, and bridal party entrance and are twisting it as if it's my fault for being unhappy with them for it...telling me to get over it because "from the pics his DJ posted on facebook" (WTF?!?!) it appeared everyone of our guests had a great time." For the record, I had 3 guests tell me that our, "DJ sucked, but everything else was great. " Update, the count of guests feeling the need to express empathy to us for our "sucky DJ" is up to 8. Also, the owner is now blaming me for the ceremony sound, saying that I, as the Bride, should have cut off the microphone if I was unhappy with it going in and out...again, wow, what am I paying you for again? Meanwhile the guy running the board during the ceremony, was 15 feet away from the equipment leaning against a pole playing on his cell phone while all this bad audio was occurring. My sister in law, left her seat to ask him to do something and he had to be interrupted to look up from his phone at her. Who wouldn't have wanted to repair, or stop the problem? Not this guy, he didn't have a care in the world about us...except later, he posted on facebook, our names, and pics of our guests dancing and while stating: "weddings are funer with a pro." I'd have to agree, that they are "more fun" only we didn't have a pro. :( DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY, if they do a poor job, it will somehow be your fault...which is true, I hired them.
