What a beautiful autumn day to visit the pumpkin patch with family. There's always plenty of…read moreparking in the lot with a special closer by handicap section. It was my cousins first time here so we all went for the $8.50 each hayride, not included with the $13 each admission. We took a walk down the corn maze and took advantage of many photo ops. I like the store options better at Silverman's farm but still love and enjoy the products at Jones. I got my mother a bag of apples, my son a bottle of apple cider, and my daughter cranberry pumpkin cookies that she ended up sharing with us. They were fresh with a clean taste. I wish I would have took advantage of the coupon given to me and took the time to purchase some pumpkins before I left, but I rushed on to their nearby winery before hitting the road home.

Heard about Jones Family Farm on a radio local spotlight for Fathers Day weekend. Normally, we…read morewould go to our normal fruit picking option in Middlefield, but you don't know what you're missing if you don't try new places, right? We pulled up to the entrance and spoke with a friendly gentleman. We found out that normally, you're supposed to book online. Otherwise, you can not pick. They started this during COVID and continued it because it helped them gauge demand, staffing, etc. We weren't aware. So MAKE SURE you do this. The only reason we were able to pick was due to cancelations as the day was "iffy" from a weather standpoint. Pricing: The prices are fair. If you pack your basket tight, it can be close to grocery store pricing, and it gives you that activity to do . They provide you with a sturdy white plastic basket (I felt like Dorothy with no Toto). They have staff everywhere to help direct you toward your correct picking areas. The areas that you can pick that day were clearly marked with a yellow flag. So when we looked across the property, we saw where we needed to go without assistance. When we arrived at the patch, the staff waiting gave our group an entire row from walkway to walkway to pick without interruptions. They let us pick from either side of the row. Note: If you can't find enough strawberries, I'm your row that day. They will let you relocate to another patch section. Now! Down to the important stuff. The strawberries. Can I just say that these were the BEST quality strawberries that I've picked at a "Pick Your Own" in Connecticut, EVER. They had a wide and plentiful selection of full red strawberries of all sizes to pick from the bushes. The bushes were lush and plenty of berries that were growing for later this month. We had no trouble filling 4 baskets full of strawberries in one row. Parking at the location is grass and clearly marked. The bathrooms are portable bathrooms. They don't have a place to eat at the pick your own, but they have a winery down the street if that needs to be part of your trip. Important note: You can't bring outside food to any of the Jones property. We didn't know that (until we saw the big/clear signs) and brought our backpack right back to the car. If you follow the rules, like we did, you will have a great 1 hour - 1 hour and a half picking strawberries. I will be back next year (with a reservation), and I will recommend to anyone not sure of which PYO to go to.

This year, there were over 100 home brew vendors as well as well known craft beer tents. The selection was amazing, and I definitely have to give them that. The $45 entry fee is steep, worth it if you can drink fast and can get in a lot of different beers. You basically pay $45 for the glass, which different vendors will fill for you when you ask. If you can't drink fast, it isn't worth it. There are a couple of food vendors here, not a great amount, but you definitely need to eat when you're drinking like this, so I would like enjoy a few more food choices. Police patrol this festival. Overall, had a great time, and would recommend for beer lovers.

Some things have changed and not for the better. The 1st thing that changed was an additional $5 for the Belgian beer tent. In the numerous postings online advertising this event, they mentioned they would once again have Belgian beers but said nothing about needing to pay additional. They moved away from the Chili cook-off an decided to now do a food truck competition. This would have been a great concept expect I feel the trucks should have had some type of samples for people to judge. If I buy 1 grilled cheese from a truck, I am not going to also buy more sandwiches from others just so I can judge them. This made it more of a "who had more sales" competition. Lastly, the hours for the event seemed to change. In EVERY post on Facebook, they stated the event was 12-6. In every yard sign posted in the area (I even took photos) they stated the event was 12-6. We found out when we got there the event was only 12-4:30. While that wasn't a HUGE deal, it would have been nice to know before we bought tickets.

I learned what Board & Brush is about when I visited the website to choose my activity. They seem to be really popular as there were limited seats available. Upon searching for an activity on the website, I kept in mind I would be traveling back home on the Metro North and was seeking smaller crafts. I later learned there is a class for smaller crafts it just wasn't the one we chose. There is free parking outside in front of the location. Upon entering we were greeted by the staff and checked in. The staff showed us to our work station. Each table can host 6 guests. Our supplies were already at our stations. The décor in the establishment is absolutely stunning. The wall art is a mixture between the small crafts and the larger crafts. Here's a tip I didn't think about until it was too late, you'll be dealing with paint keep in mind what you wear. If you have a favorite shirt or shoes you wouldn't want to get messed up, they may not be the best to wear here. Thankfully I didn't get any paint on me besides my hands. I cannot remember the lady who assisted us but she was an angel. She was very patient with me as I'm not the best person to do arts & crafts. The other ladies at the table were very supportive also. This location allows you to bring snacks and wine. Don't be like me and accidentally eat someone else's snacks thinking the establishment set it out for everyone. Overall, I had a great time making my project. I wouldn't mind returning to Board & Brush however I would prefer to do the smaller crafts as oppose to the larger ones. It's also difficult to locate the small crafts online. I say give it a try you may like it.
