I still catch myself humming the songs from Moana, even though it's been more than a week since I was lucky enough to applaud all three casts from Music Pillars as they performed the musical in San Diego. Every child should grow up engaged in opportunities like this. it isn't often that we get to watch children happily stand with such confidence and interact with each other as well as adults without the distraction of a hand held device! My kids participated in musicals over two summers and had a great experience. They take piano lessons but are not musical or theater kids. I was so impressed when I saw the performances. They were singing and dancing and saying their lines and felt so comfortable and confident in their roles. They made new friends and felt a sense of pride in what they were doing. The vocal teachers, choreographer, costume design and directors accomplished so much in a relatively short amount of time. it was a great way for my kids to spend the summer. If you have the chance, I highly recommend. They can really help any kid shine. read more

Music Pillars work ethic and dedication to their students goes unmatched. They take their time in seeing the potential in every student and push them to reach their best. Whether its Friday fest or in their various shows, students are given plenty of opportunities to be diligent and shine. Their musical theatre program is well thought out and organized making sure each student can be seen and has their moments to shine on stage. My daughter was part of an ensemble in her first show but she was up there front and center for most of the show...and NOT to just stand there. She had beautiful choreography and purpose. In class, the leads would occasionally get pulled out to focus on a scene while the rest of the class would continue to run through the show. It was the highlight of my daughter's day to be able to step in temporarily for those roles to practice her singing and acting. The staffs' encouragements and praises permeates to the rest of the class. I have never seen a more positive and supportive group of kids in what usually is a competitive environment. My daughter has learned so much and her love for music and theatre grow exponentially under the care of Music Pillars. We couldn't be more proud to be a part of their music program. read more

We love Music Pillars! Both our kids go here and have learned so much. I feel like I am qualified to give a solid review of the music instruction here--I am a former amateur musician--took piano lessons through childhood, played Marching Snare drum in the High School Band, I played violin as concertmaster in High school and All-State Honors orchestra and in 2 University orchestras, and sang in choir, musical theater, men's Acappella groups, and a student rock band (guitar/vocals), so I have had my fair share of music teachers my entire life. We've been with Music Pillars since their early days and have been impressed with the formula they have put together. Kids have a rotation of usually 2 teachers with different styles who help them develop their musicality, technique, and performance skills. They're encouraged to "feel" the music and learn the songs that They want to learn (not just follow a book of classical music). We were initially unsure about the teacher rotation but after seeing how different instructors with different strengths can teach different things, we loved it. About once every 6-8 weeks, there is a small group performance called "Friday Fest" where they have an opportunity to perform for a small audience with maybe 5-10 kids and their families. This is a great way to develop confidence on stage and work toward a small goal in short intervals of time. They are very encouraging to the students at these small recitals and it's clear that progress is made from each one to the next. They've been exploding in popularity and instruments (voice, guitar, percussion and more now in addition to piano). --------TL;DR-------- PROS: fantastic instructors, regular performances, kids get to pick the kind of songs/music that they like (helps them want to practice/learn) CONS: none BOTTOM LINE: I wish I had teachers like this when I first started learning music. It's fun, technically solid, and a great way to encourage your kids to love music. read more

We had a horrific experience at Music Pillars. They were unethical and irresponsible to say the least. Our child who was 100% committed and worked extremely hard for months, attending rehearsals week after week and enthusiastically learning her role, was only told last minute that she was not allowed to perform on the shows because of pitiful reasons. What makes this worse is the fact that MP, rather than notifying us, parents, over the weekend, right when the decision was made to replace our child, MP waited until the end of the final Tuesday practice to give us the shocking news. But for those 3 hours of the last rehearsal, our 9 year old daughter was neglected and cruelly left on the floor crying for hours, wondering what she did wrong that she wasn't being allowed to participate in the last rehearsal. She kept asking questions that not one teacher responded. When we showed up at the end of the rehearsal, our child was full of tears, completely humiliated and devastated. And when we asked the teacher what was going on, she was confrontational, unapologetic, unsympathetic and extremely disrespectful. Nepotism is another problem. The director's own children didn't get reprimanded for missing the same technical rehearsals (in a different show) which is the reason our child and other kids were taken out of the show. The same rules should apply to everyone equally. It should also be mentioned that his children got the most sought after roles. I do want to mention that after a long conversation with the director, my child was allowed to perform on the last show. But unfortunately, the damage was done. What was supposed to be a fun after school activity that would nurture her passion for theater, left my child heart broken and extremely vulnerable. The unnecessary pain inflicted on my, and other children, is unacceptable, irresponsible and utterly concerning. Parents stay diligent! Protect your children's mental health, self confidence and love for the arts from cruel and unethical environments like the one at MP. read more

My son has learned so much about musical theatre through the guidance of Scott & Mikaela, who are beyond awesome teachers. My son started at Music Pillars in 2014 and he's loved every minute of it! Scott, the owner, is an amazing musician and we feel incredibly lucky to have him as our son's teacher throughout the years. When our son first started, he worked a lot with Nina and he always looked forward to his lessons with her. She was so awesome at finding music that he enjoyed playing, as well as choosing music that would stretch him to grow in his skills. She was incredible! He (our son) has spoiled us as parents, in that he never complains about practicing or going to lessons every week. I've talked to other parents who love how FUN the Music Pillars team makes piano for their kids and I have to agree! I know that if I would have had the chance to go here as a kid, I would still be playing today! They are passionate about music and helping kids not get burnt out on playing the piano (or singing, or playing other instruments). Our sons have been encouraged and stretched to grow as musicians because their teachers focus on making music fun. The opportunities your child will have at Music Pillars are unlike other studios. My two sons are very confident playing in front of large crowds of people because they have been exposed to numerous recitals. Most studios will have yearly or twice a year recitals but Music Pillars hosts numerous recitals throughout the year so that when your child has completed a piece, they can perform in front of a group. Being comfortable to share their talent with others will be something they will enjoy their whole lives. The learning approach to Music Pillars has been a great fit for our sons. They have been able to select their own music that they are interested in. They are not forced to play songs that do not inspire them. This has caused them to progress at a rapid pace because they are motivated. This does not mean that the lessons have been easy for our sons or that the teachers are laid back, it means that the skilled teachers have been able to hold our sons accountable to their learning process while still inspiring them.
